Direction/Assistance - HTC One X

Hey, I realize that probably none of you want to have to deal with stupid questions like what mine most likely are, but I'm going to ask anyway. I bought this One X mid august, and have been slightly mocked by some friends for not having unlocked/hacked my phone yet. I myself am unsure of what it is that I need to do, or which OS I should even choose. Any advice, guidance, or even redirection would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for my inexperience and warmly welcome any advice or reprimanding given.

Grow some balls and make your own decision on whether you want to root or not.
If you decide to (I decided not to, due to very restricted consumer protection laws here) then I recommend ARHD.

Wait for the official over the air Jellybean update.
Don't bother trying to hack your phone until after HTC have released the JB kernel source. Spend some time reading up in the meantime.
I say this because you''ll probably impress your friends more by having a phone with Jellybean on it, than having a bricked phone in HTC repairs.

(Request) Some way to boost GPU Performance?

Is there anyway possible to improve the GPU performance on the HTC Desire? Cuz from what i know, the GPU performance on the HTC desire isnt really good. So is there any way to improve it?
GPU performance already IS improved. If you want to improve it even more, buy a new phone.
Thank you, Terepin, for such a helpful post! I suggest we make this the standard response for all new threads from now on: "buy a new phone!". Hell, we should even scrap the whole forum and just make a .jpg for the front page, saying: "buy a new phone!".
What would we do without you?
sebastianlow, install a ROM which has the GPU+ libraries integrated into the kernel. Those should boost 3D performance a bit.
I heard that russians connected a gtx 570 to the Desire with copper wires - and it was hell fast. Battery lasted 10 mins tough :/
But now seriously:
Kernel source is out, so new kernels coming should be improving it (if on Gingerbread).
GPU+ was for froyo, not. At least I could not see it on Sense kernels (2.3 +). BTW, AOSP roms have it integrated to thheir kernels already.
The thing is official kernel already has GPU+. Hence I said it already is improved. But yeah, GTX570 will do the trick.
Why not say that in the first place instead of a smartass comment?

Why all the picking on Terepin?
You should be going after the op for posting a question in general and not q&a.

Anyway, I saw this thread today. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254272
It does mention GPU overclock to 83mhz. But i have NO idea what the original gpu clock is.. So.. maybe someone with more experience could check this out?

Because the entire concept of xda community is built around people helping people. And more often than not I see
Terepin making wisecracks which are of no assistance to anyone, moreso it only belittles the OPs who are just in need of a little help.

As I said, performance already is improved. And it was improved in custom kernel since FroYo. HTC included GPU+ in their GB for Desire. But OP would know that if he took the trouble to actually test it and to find info about.
You know, there is search feature for a reason. I'm not here to find out things for other lazy individuals. I do however help who deserves it.
Yeah you said that only after someone pulled you up on your wisecrack. I just think if you are gonna use energy to post something it might as well be constructive.

I agree and I think that's a bit sad really. This place has such an amazing wealth of information and intelligent members, it's the perfect place for a noob to learn all things android. Maybe the more skilled members need to stop being so high and mighty and remember that at some point in the past they too knew three fifths of nothing.

As a noob myself I've found that the best way to find things out is to search for it, simply for the fact that I don't wanna get flamed for the fact that I'm starting a new thread that all of the experienced rooters and modders think is stupid.
There are a lot of great people on here who will help and give give constructive comments, but there are a lot of people also who think that everyone should know as much as they do and have a go at people for asking questions. Sure some people don't bother to find out even the very simplest things for themselves, and they deserve a bit of moaning at. But if someone has tried for themselves, and need a bit of help why not give it to them instead of simply being sarcastic.
I joined XDA to learn and to help others (if I can), and I thought that was the whole point of the site.
Some of us haven't been members forever or have the technical knowledge that some of you others have. Sometimes we need a helping hand.

That's irrelevant. Explaining how is useless and unnecessary. The fact is it is improved. Telling why won't give him, us or anyone else any advantage whatsoever. End of story.
That's like saying gravity is there because it is. Or magnets work because they do. Usually people give an explanation for their findings, so their audience have a why or how associated with the answer. I guess this is irrelevant anyway as you are clearly not in the business of helping people, you're far more interested in trying to get cheap laughs. I've wasted enough time on this, out.

This is just a note of thanks to all of the great Developers and generally helpfull people on XDA (you know who you are), who have helped and guided me with any and all problems and questions that I and many more people have had.
+1 THANKS to all
i second that..... we have a great community here on the desire forums and some even better developers!
without this community my phone would not be as awesome as it is now

+1 Thanks XDA
me2...thanks to all these roms which keep the phone fresh and new whole the time i'm not thinking on buying new phone just after few months of use...that's something new for me...
thx to all devs and modders!!
I remember a time when I used to play around with my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic at the dailymobile forums and how much freedom it felt. Now that I've got a Desire, it's got a hell lot more compared to my Nokia's freedom, thanks to all the devs in here.
Great help here , can find solution for most of the issue related to HTC desire here . Thanks All
Hmm... Due to my new found respect for rooting and custom roms (and the age of my loved Desire), I'm thinking of buying a Sensation.
Any thoughts/feelings about moving from a Desire to a Sensation?
Cheers

This Community is just amazing. I like to thanks the Devs. You inspired me to root and mod my mini pro, my Sisters X10 and my Friends Arc. Keep up the amazing Work!!!

No, some of us do help people you know
Missed the point.
Perhaps you could elaborate?
This thread was started a month ago, and was aimed at the generally helpful people on here who go out of their way to help others who don't have the technical knowledge that some of the more experienced members have. And although the development on the Desire has slowed recently, there are still some devs who are willing to spend their own time trying to better the Android experience on this handset for others.
Yes, i'm sure it is not the same place it was a year ago, but some on here still deserve thanks for what they are doing.

Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
there's no "groups or teams" we BUILD CM10\AOKP\PA all from source i work on Base rom's which is CM9\CM10\AOSP when the CM* rom's get stable enough i pass them to maxwen and he finishes them off, which gives me free time to de-stress and spend time with girlfriend and work on other projects.
for CDMA JMZtaylor builds the Base rom's which are CM9\CM10
we work together......seeing threads like this drives me up the wall

Dude,
XDA is NOT a support site of any kind.
It is a forum for developers, yes it has grown massivley over the years, but in general most folks on here are at least kinda techie, geeky, or both. There are also many users who just want to download cool stuff. There is nothing wrong with that but devs get annoyed when "users" don't want to take the time to learn forum rules, read, or do a bit of research.
Every dev on here is a volunteer, they do what they do because they enjoy it, and like being involved in a community of like minded folk who know the devices we spend our cold hard cash on are usually capable of much more than manufacturers like to release. Yes, there are "teams" large and small but they do not get paid for this, work under deadlines, or are expected to provide any support.
I don't mean to sound too cold, but with a little reading and research you could have found out all you needed to know about the CM team, AOKP, etc AND read in Lior's dev thread that his build is UNOFFICIAL meaning not an officially supported device by the actual aokp team. Even if it were an officially supported device that would not mean timetables, support, or warranty. Seriously, do a little research.
And understand, when you joined in August what number were you? Did you watch the "you are a noob" video, I made my son watch that when he joined. There are LOTS of new people here who demand, are rude etc. I am not saying that you are necasarily one of them, but when each device can count the number of devs on two hands or less, compared to the number of registered XDA users and you can see how a dev like Lior could get upset at your lack of wanting to read.
In the future, until you have contributed to this forum please refrain from even using sarcasm with a respected dev. Read, learn, and I hope you enjoy XDA, but remeber it is a developer forum, not a noob support site.
Regards.
Edit: ahhhh, just realized I kept typing Lior, and not Lloir, my apologies Dude.

I know the frustration of seeing someone complain about something know to be issues or someone thinking it's a problem with the rom when no one else has issues. I was that at one point also, when the G1 came out and JesusFreke was making roms, and people had to use ADB to obtain root and be able to flash things. I learned since then and read and read and read. The problem now a days is that most don't care to read a little, or at all. Most of the questions asked in a thread are answered, or been discussed, or don't even belong in the dev section. This is extremely aggravating to the devs, or themers, when they right up a huge OP and no one uses it, and just clutters up their dev thread with useless questions and/or nonconstructive criticism. I don't blame him for quitting or locking the thread, if people feel it's at its prime, then leave it alone and don't touch it anymore. Most of the TouchWiz roms have the best version yet to come, or they came and went a while ago. Most of the mods they incorporated are flashable on your own, anyways. Thank him and respect decisions, or use one of the other 10+ TouchWiz roms.

Jesusfreke was the pioneer of modding for Android. Without him I believe that we would not be as far with android as devs, manufacturers, or even android its self.
Look at thouchwiz its self with the toggles in the notification Window. This came from cm. We the community can end up pushing for devs with true innovation to go back underground where their work is not seen in mass people, Google, or manufacturers. Then android may end up missing what could become greatness all for petty arguments. I follow one such dev in a private forum and it's a shame he was forced to by thing like this.

Hey guys,
I let this thread go for awhile (I was logged on when he created it) and you all have said your piece/peace, in an almost professional manner which I for one appreciate very much. But now it is time for this OT thread to be closed. I do invite you to the Official OT thread to continue this discussion, as a few have already been doing.
Thanks you for being civil about it, but the time for this thread has expired.
