Is it me or is the auto brightness on the screen quite poor compared to stock? With stock, I remember I could see the screen change all the time.
Also, the notification color LED looks....off. Blue is much lighter, red looks different. But blue isn't nearly at blue nor as bright.
Also the network status thing seems to change a lot...I can go from LTE to H+ to H to 3G all in the same spot within 10 minutes. While in stock it was always on 4g or LTE anywhere I went.
The notification for voicemail is un-deletable for some reason....
The call quality on CM10 is quite poor compared to touchwiz, It isn't bad, but it isn't nearly as good. It seems CM10 lacks the last settings for this kind of stuff. I am not sure if anyone else thinks so. If not, how can I fix this?
Last thing, Is there a good alternative to the Touchwiz camera? I'd love to have HDR, all the filters, and modes back from the Touchwiz camera. I believe HDR is coming in 4.2. There are a lot of camera apps, but very few have HDR AND other features. They have one or the other. Isn't 4.2 bringing HDR?
Thanks guys. So far I am loving CM10. Everything runs far smoother and looks prettier. Best of all, I'll probably have 4.2 by the time the OTA updates comes out for AT&T.
Can't answer all your questions but with regards to the camera app every one I've tried is garbage. You're better off forgetting that your phone can take pictures until 4.2 comes out.
Edit: actually every one isn't garbage, but like you said they're all missing 1 feature or another or they're unintuitive or slow.
Pro capture is decent but lacks HDR and the panorama mode is a pain to use (not as bad as stock android but it doesn't make sense the way it works). Give that one a shot.

The reason your service is changing frequeantly isn't actually a problem or anything wrong. With CM10 it is reporting the actual signal your phone is getting. With touchwiz it's reporting what you could be connected to. Basically on your stock TW the actual signal will change from LTE to H+ and 3G to save your battery from constantly staying on the LTE connection. Your service doesn't indicate this change because that would annoy most users. On CM10 this change is reported. It's actually the same behavior of your internal radio but you are just seeing it fluctuate more as it is doing it's job to save your battery.
Glad you asked about the camera though. It's the only thing holding me back from flashing because I like to take lots of pictures and the quality just isn't there.
Anyone have some help on the other questions

So turns out that this app does in fact have HDR but it's called 'reduced noise'. So that's taken care of. The only other annoying thing is the constant popups telling you to buy the full version, but I think it's on sale for 99 cents now. Or at least it was yesterday

Interesting. How did you figure out that "reduced noise" is the same as HDR? Does it actually merge two exposures? If not, it may help scenes that would otherwise be over/underexposed, but it's not really HDR...

That is what HDR does. It over exposes and under exposed the picture at different ISO settings. It would take one picture at 200 ISO and the other at 800 ISO. This allows you take a picture where it is light where is is normally dark and dark where it is normally light. This prevents a picture from being too dark in some parts and washed out it others.

To begin, I want to say that I am not an Apple Fanboy or a mindless lemming for anything with an Apple logo. I've had many droid phones in the past. I just wanted to give my personal opinion between both phones and explain my personal reasons for dropping my GN and going back to my iPhone 4s.
I know that some people don't use the camera on their phone, but I have a 6 year old daughter. I use my camera quite a bit so it's important too me. I am not hung up on specs so the 5 mp camera didn't scare me. In the end it's all about what the pics look like. In perfect lighting situations the camera is pretty good. But we all know that most pictures aren't shot in perfect lighting conditions. For one week every time I took a pic with my GN I also shot one with my iPhone. Overall the iPhone pics were better. They were sharper, colors were more accurate and overall looked closer to what I was shooting. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the GN is as horrible as most posts say, I'm just saying for my personal use it's quite a bit below the iPhone's camera for the situations I am in and use my camera for. Don't tell me that it's just a camera phone and I shouldn't be that picky. You can't deny that they skimped on the camera. It's not nearly as good as most current phones. I would have been happy with the same camera from the Galaxy SII, but it's not even that good.
Battery use is another reason. I realize that it's a bigger screen, faster processor etc. so it's not going to be in the same ballpark as my iPhone. However I had 4g turned off and brightness turned down to 40% and it was still horrendous. Now before you jump on my, i did root my phone and had a rom/kernel installed. No difference! I would lose 10% of my battery for every 10 minutes of on-screen time. I was averaging 1.5 hours of on-screen time before my battery died. This is something I monitored very closely.
Also, for full disclosure, my iPhone is jailbroken so I have several widgets that refresh every 15 minutes going and the on-screen time is well over 10 hours!
The screen is nice, and while it's probably the best of the droid phones, it's not better than the iPhone's. Now you can say that it's personal preference so here's what I did. I took a pic with my iPhone and sent it to my GN. I opened the pic on both phones and set them side by side. The iPhone was sharper and more realistic in each case. I also took a pic with my GN and then sent it to my iPhone for a comparison. Same result.
I really wish that those factors weren't a dealbreaker for me because otherwise it is an awesome phone! The speaker was loud, signal was strong, didn't have any rebooting issues - all of which are being reported all over the forums. It's easily the best droid phone but just not on the same level as my iPhone. Like I said my iPhone is jailbroken so I'm able to pretty much do anything that you can with the GN!
And don't tell me that the iPhone sucks and needs to be jailbroken because the same argument can be made for the GN. The reason people root and install custom rom's/kernels is because they want a different experience/performance that what they get out of the box.
Again, this post was to give an honest user experience of why I am going back to my iPhone based on how I use my phone.
Camera quality improved quite a bit in 4.0.4. Did you use this update?
Oh noooo please dont go please dont leave us!!!
I have not updated to 4.0.4. I checked and wasn't able to update to it. The rom I was using was 4.0.4 based.
Can I update somehow even if I haven't gotten the message yet?
These threads should be auto-deleted.
That's odd I have galaxy nexus lte with the 2100 battery and honestly I have no complaints about battery life I use my GPS twice a day for about an hour and half both ways and many emails and phone calls also including all the junk I look up on the internet and I still go to bed with atleast 20 percent left... all stock. The camera I can agree on wtf were they thinking. To hell with shutter speed I want quality not quantity

If you are on a custom ROM, you probably won't get the message and even if you do, you wouldn't be able to update OTA unless you reverted to stock.

Without starting a pointless flame war, this is not typical of general nexus users. You have something draining your battery. Honestly, don't let this put you off. Do some digging and see what is killing your battery and then decide. Something is amiss.

I've looked at all running apps etc. Nothing out of the ordinary that would cause the battery to drain that quick. And this was with 4g off and on wifi.

While I concur that the camera is not as good as the iPhone’s—Google and Samsung failed here—I don’t know how you did this. With stock 4.0.4 I get 3.5-4 hours of screen time consistently and plenty of battery to spare, and I don’t do anything special to get it. That said, you’d have to pay me, and pay me well, to force me to use an iPhone daily.
Wtf did I just read.. retina is better than super amoled HD ? So you're telling me you can see the 20 pixels ? The experience on the nexus is much better.. iPhone is for dumb people, no offense, not to say that iPhone looks way too familiar now, and its build quality is ****, the nexus is better in everything except camera where the iPhone slightly edges the nexus
You should get an award for being the blindest person alive

I would agree with you on the camera bit. The camera on my old iPhone 4 was far superior than my Galaxy Nexus. With the GN you really need a steady hand to get a proper shot. I haven't got the 404 update yet so I'm hoping that this will be fixed.
Well sounds like you don't have enough time to tailor Android to your liking, ****ty deal. IPhone will be perfect for you then.

I manage to get 3 hours at least on a normal day, even with wifi only half of that. Get betterbatterystats from here on xda and see what (if anything) is keeping your phone awake. Seriously, something is not right. Maybe something as simple as a ROM/Kernel combo. Try a few different ones and see how you fare.

Any rom/kernel suggestions? I'm open to trying something that might help me.

So you post an asshole comment right back, a lot of times people see problems because of user error.
Go back to your Apple world, enjoy the limitations and enjoy not being able to customize to it's full extent. You can say that you can do anything with your iPhone4S but at the end of the day that is just not true. Jailbroken or not.
Again, go, have fun, no skin off any of our backs and now we have one less hostile person to worry about.

i'v noticed that in some reviews the one x took photos that weight over 5mb mine for some reason takes less then 2.8mb
also panorams takes about 1mb top..

Silly question really, depends on what your taking a pic off, if I take a pic of my daughter playing inside I'm looking at like 2.5mb but of I take a pic of my family outside with clouds and hills behind them with loads of different colours and shades it will be like 6.5mb

If you are rooted, which I assume you are since you're on XDA, you can install the HQ Camera Mod and get hugely improved photos from the stock app. I'm talking an average of 6-8MB pics with much less noise.

I hear it does improve it a little, but apparently the leaked Sense 4.5 Camera is even better still, with much less noise and less compression. I've installed the mod, but haven't had the chance to take any photos yet to compare.

I've reverted from the latest 4.2.2 jelly bean ROMs (primarily MMuzzy) back to 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich, because I was getting horrible battery life. Back on ICS I'm getting almost a day of battery life with 2-4 hours onscreen time, and because of that odd backwards switch I lost that ability with the camera. Even then, there was still some lag getting the camera app running, and then it took a while to focus on the subject you were trying to capture.
Good suggestion to anyone who didn't know about that, though.
Probably the fact that I can't seem to find a good GLASS screen protector for it that will fit with my otterbox commuter case and that won't start to peel up after a few months.
Besides that with the phone itself....the radios. I've owned low end android devices with specs much worse than this phone and I always had better reception.
Oh and the USB port. Just got a insurance replacement and it has USB issues off the bat. Dealing with it as long as I can because I'm hearing asurion no longer offers the 32gb nexus.
Waiting for the next one.

Does anyone know how to speed it up or avoid blur?

A night out like that for me means drinking, low light, and dancing means moving action. Not even my wife's Note 4 takes that good of pics in those scenarios. It has already been posted numerous times to use manual settings. Why would you ask how to control shutter speed when you are using auto? Do a little reading.

First of all I didn't say I was using auto. I said I was pointing and shooting.
Take a look at these pics. Decent light and believe me, the s5 took them perfectly.
Utterly stupid shutter speed. Unless HTC make a better camera next time.
The light was good don't assume things, secondly I only had three drinks.
Also I was not dancing, i tried manual and auto. Raw etc, all the same. Crap camera. Thought it wasn't but it doesn't compete with its competition. Poor
This is front and back cameras too, both awful.
If like to be able to control shutter speed, auto or manual

I'm fully aware of the quote i've written before, however this is not about clarity it's about the shutter speed and the camera blurring shots, granted some people were moving however people were blurring from the slightest of movements, this is down to shutter speed.

I haven't tested a lot of video, but I thought I read the video would be 60 fps at 1080p and 30 at 4k.
For me the biggest drawback so far has been the screen quality. The resolution is nice, but it has this weird shine effect that is bugging me. You can only see it when it's text on white, and it is more pronounced when you tilt slightly, but it is also there when you're looking straight on.
Didn't see it at first but now I can't look without seeing it and it's killing me.

I've noticed a bit of red tint here. Hopefully this can be calibrated by software in the future(like sony). But the viewing angle is pretty average though.

Stutter and lag: yes I am shocked. I have about 80% of my typical apps installed and the phone has slowed exhibiting jank.

Hmm I'm also experiencing alot of stutter in apps and even in settings (did several wipes, always the same). It's not that bad but it is definitely not 100% smooth. But nobody mentions it in the forums. You're the first one.
I'm comparing it to my M8, which is nexus-like smooth, with almost no stutter at all. The only app where 10 is smoother is chrome.
I think we have to wait till custom kernels pop up. I was hoping the stock experience would be 100% smooth like the nexus phones.

According to reviewers Galaxy S6 and S7 are also stutter-free. Main reason I returned my S7 is because it was so laggy. But I guess most people really don't care. Doing a little search on google I only see people who used a nexus phone complaining about stutters on devices like S6, S7, etc.
Btw I did a little test here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66729920&postcount=226
Odd: my S7 Edge is very fast and barely has any stutter etc which has surprised me. I was expecting the opposite go figure.

Really? Could you do a test with your s7 with the graphical bars option turned on from dev options.
Btw my S7 was indeed very fast, but just stuttery in chrome (with ads blocked) and apps like YouTube.

Are you keeping both the edge and 10?
I noticed that by default Boost+ will "automatically clear memory in the background", which I had disabled since day one. Perhaps it causes stutter?
Boost+ -> Settings -> Smart Boost

Probably give up the 10: the edge is the better phone for me and I don't mind not having root believe it or not. It does what I want it to do quite well.

It's pretty strange more than one people report this problem since my HTC 10 is very smooth in settings(most of time it's 60 fps by looking at GPU profiling). Would you like to upload a screenshot of settings with GPU profiling turned on?

This is my result. In settings and youtube, the stutter is less often than yours (it happens), however Play Store is a lagging hell(sometimes worse than the screenshot below).
Not sure if it's a hardware fault or what.
As far as I know htc got their own cpu scheduling implementation, maybe that's the problem.

For what it's worth, my phone came out of the box with Smart Boost disabled.
I played with one today and im not impressed. felt semi slow and i dont like the capacitive buttons. ill keep my nexus 5x and wait to see if and what the htc nexus is all about in the fall.

Yep it's definitely not stutter free. Once you've used a device where the bars stay below the line, these micro stutters are very noticeable.
I hope custom kernels gonna fix it.

Considering I couldn't find any reason that this phone will perform worse than the competition, with same SoC and same DDR4 memory, the only logical explanation is that htc have a stricter frequency control (persumbly GPU) for a better battery life.
