is there any way i can add a comma to the stock keyboard? or any tips on inserting comma easily other than long-press?
i know some of you will suggest third party keyboard but i really want to keep the stock samsung keyboard for the following reasons:
1) handwriting mode with auto pen detection
2) numpad on top row
3) swype available
4) easy language change with space bar swype
5) word memory and prediction have been solid
you can suggest a third party keyboard with a comma key if the benefit of switching > five reasons above.

Hello!
I just found a couple of text files and registry keys and values to modify your full qwerty keyboard settings. So if you are satisfied with the factory installed keyboard (as I am), you don't need a 3rd party keyboard application to have customized keyboard. AFAIK all unicode character can be selected for the keys, so exotic characters can be easily placed to wherever you want.

how to get chinese input in android? I am new to android.
I just downloaded google input IME from market place and installed, it is enabled in settings(languages), but keyboard did not change in messages and browser input. why?
any other apps will work?
The default way to change input method has been changed in ICS. Instead of long pressing at any text entry field, In ICS you will see a small keyboard icon in the left corner from the status bar when the keyboard shows up, then you can pull the status bar down and change the input method from there.
Google Pinyin IME is average. Some better options are sogou input and touchpal input. Sogou does not support ICS at this moment. But touchpal V5 works flawlessly.
I actually set default keybord to google pinyin, but then I cannot enable default english keyboard. what if I want to try other chinese keyboard? is there a way to enable multiple keyboard?
What if I want stock ICS keyboard to have Chinese? Any way I can do that?
I really like the stock keyboard and I don't want to use third party keyboard if at all possible
Also looking for this option....Surely there must be a way to switch to hand written chinese input via the stock ICS keyboard right ??? I realise that 3rd party apps are available but they are all terrible IMHO. Looking for something similar to how iPhone handles Chinese input....any ideas / suggestions ?
i'm using penpower, it not made for ics, as the writing pad does not fit the whole bottom half of the screen, but it works.
updated, just installed the ics version.
google voice input is the best. i use HK traditional.

touchpal is good too. they got chinese pack and handwriting pack.
go to System Setting > Language & keyboard > System Language. Then, scroll down and check PinYin option. You can choose handwriting too.
Later, when you're at a text box you will can toggle between English and Chinese using a "EN" key at left side of your spacebar.

Chinese Input on Kindle Fire
Anybody know which Chinese IME works for Kindle Fire. I root it successfully. Try to install Google PinYin, but it say not compatible with your device. The download button even not available.
Thanks
Currently on CM7.1, using the latest version of GO Keyboard. Does anyone have any idea on how to disable prediction for the hardware keyboard?
The thing is, when inserting special characters (such as ă,î,ș) the SMS character number shrinks from 160 to 70 (some Unicode boulderdash is involved).
Whenever I send long messages (and I usually do) I use the hardware keyboard in order to avoid inserting special characters, so that's my way of disabling prediction.
I don't want to use Swype/MultiLing or other keyboards because they add special keys for Romanian characters, which I find pointless (prediction can be done using a normal English QWERTY layout) and also space-wasting.
So, any ideas? Can this be done?
As a workaround, I have Catalan selected as another language (don't have the dictionary installed for it) and use that when typing on the HW keyboard.
Try z arrow from the market. It lets you use the menu key for copy, paste, and directional arrows. It also has a switcher that will swap keyboards when you rotate the screen.

Never heard of that before. Will try. Thanks!
Has anyone been able to change or update words in their user dictionary? I use the standard Samsung Keyboard, but I cannot find a setting for user dictionary anywhere. I can goto options for the samsung keyboard, but it will only learn from gmail, facebook, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
PS
The samsung keyboard letters are grayed out in language and input, but I can click on the cog next to it to get to settings.
I tried the Swype, but couldn't figure it out either so I went back to my trusty old SlideIt. Easy customizable dictionary + resize keyboard however you like + move keyboard to left or right side for one-handed typing + many more customizations, including how long you want to longhold a key to get the upper character (min. time is 0.1 sec!). Get the paid version. It's better.

Does it have the numbers separately set above the keyboard? Each of the keyboard I have looked at don't have this feature which keeps me using the stock keyboard.

Numbers are, like on a regular laptop/desktop chiclet keyboard, superscripted on the top row of keys (i.e. the qwerty row). So to access the #1, you longhold 'q'. In settings, you can adjust the longhold duration. Mine is set to 0.1 sec, which is so short a time that it is almost the same as having a dedicated #1 key. It's so quick that as I'm getting used to it, I've unintentionally typed the longhold characters quite a few times.

That's based on the older ICS keyboard. Notice on the note 2 with jellybean keyboard you get a separate set of number keys, allowing them to add even more special characters to the letter keys? Trying to retain that. Think I found a few new ones tho. Thx.
anyone able to edit user dictionary ... or import text file ... right now its learning from facebook and gmail but cannot import it by whatsapp ... software like User Dictionary manager show blank dictionary
I'm on the current 1.54.651.8 (well, a rooted version of it), and can't figure out how to change input methods, for example, to a 3rd-party keyboard.
It used to be, you'd long-press in an input field, and you'd get a prompt to select the input method.
Some say you should see a keyboard icon in the status-bar.
I don't get either of these. In settings / Language and keyboard, there's no obvious way to change the default device.
Long-press on the spacebar also does nothing (except to repeat space).
Is this maybe broken in this update? (Or in the BadSeed Rooted Stock 1.54.651.8 I'm running?)

If you get SwiftKey keyboard as you set it up it will say set as default might work
Hmm. Well, that worked.
The SwiftKey setup popped up the Choose Input Method dialog that I was looking for.
Then I selected Smart Keyboard as my input method.
I can't see uninstalling/reinstalling this every time I want to change the Input Method though.
Bring up a chat so your keyboard is open, then bring the notification bar down. There should be a keyboard listed, select the icon and choose your input method
