[Q] Data Disconnects on ICS - HTC Wildfire S

Has anyone else experienced the issue of occasional data disconnects on ICS Roms? It requires switching on/off or sometimes switching between the 2g/2g modes. Sometimes, with this even, the data doesn't start again for some time.
This is in comparison to say CM7 or stock.
Thanks.

I've the same problem.

Me too

@Dude, what network were you using? And which mode were you generally on? (WCDMA preferred, GSM only, GSM Auto, etc.).
Right now, I'm finding WCDMA preferred is better at making the data connection, even if it's connecting to a 2G network. This just seems really vague.

[Q] GALAXY NEXUS network connection type confusion

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? My phone seems to get confused about if it should be connected through wifi or 3g/4g for data. For example, if I am at home and connected to my wifi, then get in the car and leave without disabling wifi, the phone acts as if it does not recognize the 3g/4g connection at all. It will just tell me I have no network connection since I am out of range of wifi. Same happens when I am connected with 3g/4g and I walk/drive by a wifi area and I do not join the network. The open app that is using data will then loose its connection and tell me there is no network connection. Simply disabling my wifi and restarting the app does not work. I often have to reboot the phone or turn off my mobile data signal and then enable it to establish a connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this problem also, I will have something like streaming music playing then when I am out of range of wifi it dose not go to 3g on verizon. If I don't have any thing using wifi and disable it before going out of range and starting a stream no problem, but when it happens I switch to airplane mode then back and it works fine.
Your not the only one who has this problem.

Same here. Not sure what's causing it. I have to go into airplane mode, which itself seems to take ages, and then turn off airplane mode to establish 3g connection.
I thought it may be a mess up from aokp, and after a clean wipe and flash it seemed fine, but then started showing the same behavior , failing to comnect to 3g after exiting wifi zone.
Does anyone have an answer for this problem? Is it a hardware glitch or software or app caused problem?
Any help would be dearly appreciated too!

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear it doesn't seem like a hardware problem, though I have yo admit I didn't see it on the aokp wikis ... Would you know if it's a problem for an unknown minority our a more general one?
So, I guess, then stock room should be fine? I was only on stock for a few days before flashing aokp. Going back would be a nuisance, but if I can have armless transition from wifi to 3g, then I guest I should -( ...
Any talk on when it may be solved in the aosp community?

[CM10] loosing data connection until reboot

Hi,
Usually i have wifi enabled permanently, as i have coverage at home, university and t-mobile hotspots. But my nexus sometimes does not get a working data connection if i disable wifi or come back from flight mode. Icon shows reception and 3G/H/H+ but stays grey. I can't access any internet services like mail,http...
If i reboot the device, everything is fine.
Any ideas ?
Latest (-3days behind max) CM10 with stock kernel, XXLF1 baseband, tmobile germany
P.s.: tried to search with google, found nothing. Currently the nexus is my only internet-capable device, so i am sorry if repost...

Try toggling airplane mode?
Beamed from my Grouper.
Same issue here. Get random signal losses and afterwards no data until reboot. I've experienced this with other Roms as well. Toggling the airplane mode sometimes help for data recovering.
Try setting your minimum CPU above 500 Mhz...
How can that change the signal issues?
Maybe toggling wifi helps (sometimes)

I have exactly the same problem on galaxy s. The status bar shows mobile network connection, but the symbol stays grey, and connection is not there. Reboot is the only safe way to solve that. Sometimes toggling airplane mode helps, last time toggling wifi helped.
Changing APN seems to be helpful. Someone that looks good with the current provider.
almost same issue for me...
but there is some weird difference...
I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus latest radio, consistent RIL and latest CM10.
I lost data suddenly while browsing.
I can see blue signal with 3G, start browse and it change to H/H+. No problem until now but, when data returns to 3G, all further requests stay "pending" for a while (phone call is not working in this state!!!!). after a minute.... CRASH, all signal lost. Something like a reset.
even toggling data does not work... I simply have to wait that the phone decides to work again.
I'm from Italy, carrier is Vodafone. Someone with some hint?
thanks!

Because on earlier builds of some AOSP ROMs, the radio had a tendency to go to sleep and not wake up when the frequency dropped too low. The common fix at the time was to use a higher number for the minimum frequency...
Read you must...
I was looking up the answers to this same problem. When I'm staying still my internet is fine but when I'm driving down the road I lose signal. I did a google search for "cm10 losing data connection". This is a "normal problem" it is caused from changing between 3g and LTE 4g. I'm still looking up solutions to this problem.

[Q] Better WCDMA acquisition?

I was wondering if there is a way to make my tMob SGS3 do better at seeking and maintaining a WCDMA connection?
I know I can change the Mobile Network Mode to WCDMA only, and I do sometimes.
However, when it is in Auto mode, it switches back and forth constantly between GSM and WCDMA. In my home when I force WCDMA mode it has 2-3 bars of WCDMA and it does not drop the connection. When I put it on auto, it switches back and forth every minute or 2. I flashed and tried every modem possible but the results are the same.
Is there any way, besides WCDMA only mode, that I can make my phone more aggressively seek and keep WCDMA when it is available?
Thanks!

Dude I feel ya. I seriously think it all started once they switched to the 1900 band for 3g. Cause when I had my HTC HD2 it was mostly 3g in my house. Now it hardly ever switches to 3g unless I force it.

It works great when I switch it to WCDMA only, however I keep forgetting to switch it to GSM/WCDMA when I leave the house or work. I'm thinking of getting some TecTile NFC stickers to cause my phone to remind me to switch or maybe try to find a way to automate it with them or something.
If it sits at G or E until you start a data transfer and then jumps to 4G this is how it was originally set up to operate. The intent was to save both battery and banwidth. It was like this for me until I updated and it stopped. It was annoying so I'm glad it was changed. But if you are on either build UVALEM or UVALG1 try updating to the latest official build UVALH2.
Otherwise it may just be the tower you're connected to is under heavy load and is trying to conserve bandwidth, or it may just not be functioning correctly.
One other thing it could also be is if your area hasn't been refarmed yet. (It may be that this is what changed it for me but its been a while and I know I had updated about the same time I noticed it, so I attributed to that) the more I think about it now, if updating doesn't change its behavior, this is probably what's going on.

Thanks. I am on UVALH2. I think the way it is supposed to be setup is to sit on UMTS while conserving bat/data and switch to HSPAP when moving data (Both WCDMA protocols). It actually has been much better today. Don;t know if the tower in my area was having issues the last few days.
I checked for NFC programs that would allow me to change my networks based on location and none have that fine level of settings.
It isn't really a problem if I switch it to WCDMA only, it's just that I forget to switch it back to both when I'm on the road and I end up missing calls.
Well, I guess that answers whether it was the update that did it for me! I'm guessing it must be due to the network refarming then. Like I said, it did the same for me for a while, but I haven't had it hapoen at all for some time now.
You could look for an app that lets you create location based profiles. You can set it to be one way at home and when you leave it'll automatically change to your other settings.
I would imagine Tasker could handle this as well, but I've never used it.

I'm having the same issue with Wifi. It'll still show as being "connected", but there won't be any data coming through. I'll have to toggle Wifi on/off to get it back. Sometimes it'll work for a couple of hours before having the data issue again, sometimes less than a minute.
I'm on stock, rooted.

Connections optimizer is off for me too - My phone shows a clear signal disconnect and reconnect (The wifi bars/3g symbol disappears completely) during this time all data connections fails - including texts. This is happening when I'm staying in one area so it couldn't be a tower reconnection issue.
I'm going to try taking my phone into a sprint store today to see what they say.

Ah, it sounds like our issues may be different then. My issue is solely with Wi-Fi (haven't noticed issues with 3G). When it happens for me the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar doesn't change, I just can't connect to anything.

Yup, same here. Seems like the 3G radio does the same thing, but not necessarily at the same time as the WIFI. At first I thought is was only the WIFI too, but 3G is affected, though not to as severe a degree. My WIFI was actually disconnecting and failing to reconnect. Turning off connection manager made no difference. I did however notice that the WIFI at my work (WEP encryption) never seemed to do this (at least I didn't notice), so I changed my home network WPA to WEP and sure enough, it stays connected. Was still failing to load occasionally, so I went even further and changed the router to a single channel rather than "Auto" and set it to "N Only" (due to having a similar problem with a laptop I used to have, with a similar solution). Problem fixed. I'm using an Amped R10000 just FYI, not sure if it matters. Very annoying, and given the number of occurances being sufficient to start a thread, I'm assuming this is a common issue and will hopefully be fixed by a firmware update. In the meantime, we should probably all start calling Sprint daily and complaining. Maybe they're not even aware of it. Probably not enough of these phones in circulation yet for them to worry about it.
Mine will do this from time to time. Stock not rooted. I will have full 3g bars and full wifi bars and my data will just hang. If I turn off wifi everything works again. Some times when I load a game that has to connect to Facebook to play against friends I have to close the app/game, remove it from memory and reload it to get the data to work. Same thing for Pandora. It will load a song to 2% and hang until I stop wifi or reboot the phone. It's not an everyday thing but some days are worse then others.

"Good to see" from the perspective I thought it was just me. Things described by others happening to me as well. Personally, I find I like the wifi/3g auto connectivity feature - when it works. Got my SGNII on Thurs last week, and connected to wifi at work on Friday no issues. This morning, the Note picked up my work wifi without a hitch.
At home, over the weekend, I was getting spotty connection, sometimes no connection to my wifi. (Disclaimer - I have my main wifi @ N/5ghz. An access point was added with wireless G via an old Netgear router-turned-AP.) After several attempts of moving the AP from one cat6 jack to another, I finally moved it to my main level. Oddly enough, so far, so good. Certainly possible the router's radio is pooping out.
What I notice happen with connection issues though seem related to the Note seeing my wireless G, trying to connect, but unable to do so until/unless I reboot my phone. After moving to the new location/jack, everything seems to work OK now (knock on wood).
Having said that... I also think the 3g radio (HW or SW?) is a bit wonky, as my old HTC Hero seemed to have more bars at home, IIRC. Whatever it is, just seems a bit lacking, IMHO.
Sprint is updating to LTE in many markets ive noticed my 3G drops says preparing networks and reestablishes the connection to 3G. I live in Fort Wayne and issue the permits for the tower co-locates and they are close to going live with LTE here so I know thats my problem. I can live with the flakiness for a few more days. I have not had issues with WIFI drops at home.

The same thing has been happening to me here on Long Island. 3g drops and reconnects. Sometimes it doesn't and a reboot fixes it. I also notice after the disconnect and reconnect it states my PRL is unknown. I have done a PRL update many times, a Profile Update, a RTN reset, and a factory reset. This happens on the stock rom and any custom ROM. It's driving me insane!

Sigh, so it seems as if you guys are losing wifi/3g....is it affecting voice radios or LOS/dropped calls?

I haven't been on the phone when it's happened so I couldn't tell you - Nothing like the LOS on the E4GT. When the data connection does cut out it immediately reconnects. Doesn't really impair the functionality of the phone but it happens enough to be annoying. With a 300$ price tag I expect my device to be without defect.

I'm not having LOS /dropped calls just data creep with LTE/Cdma setting enabled.
Speed test show same data speed numbers as CDMA only setting but when browsing data arrows tend to pause more making for slower page upload with LTE/CDMA setting enabled.
According to Sprint store tech such performance is common with that setting.

I am on CDMA only. I should have mentioned that in my first post. This does affect phone calls too as ill be on the phone and the call will drop and the "out of service area" message comes up. It doesnt matter if I'm on my Airave or not. I tried different prls which doesn't seem to make a difference. I am starting to think there is something wrong with the phone as my girlfriends S3 doesn't do this. Maybe Samsung will release some sort of update to fix this issue.

I made the change back to CDMA only mode this morning and it has solved my WiFi issues as well. I was also struggling getting a GPS lock with LTE enabled. GPS toolkit would show 20/21 satellites found but it would never get a lock. After the reboot back into CDMA mode it locked in 5 seconds.

[Q] bad mobile data

I'm having this connection issues where the phone would show the 3g/4g icon but the connection is really slow( slowest speedtest gave me was 0.01mbps). Im testing with a different provider now but is it possible this is a hardware fault?
Same Problem
I have a similar problem, when I enable Mobile Data, it could not connect, I have to turn Airplane mode ON and then OFF and then Mobile date On to get the Mobile Data... Very Irritating... I hope its SW issue
I have slower connection on 3g and h then previous devices
Well its only 4g giving troubles now, is 4g and 3g on one chip or a seperate chip?
Try cleaning cache of your browser
Don't think its browser related because its systemwide. Plus i tries a factory reset already
I've gotten this as well from time to time. Doesn't seem related to whether or not I'm transitioning from Wi-Fi to 4g or not.

I'm getting the same and came on here specifically to see whether it was just me.
These are the symptoms: it seems to happen when I transition from a WiFi network to mobile data network. The data icon still shows activity and good signal but internet access is incredibly slow or non-existent in all apps. Toggling in and out of Aeroplane mode fixes it. I am on a 3G SIM, so for now I have tried to turn of 4G mode and see if this fixes it. Will report back.
This is really annoying - my £100 Acer Liquid Metal did this like 3 years ago... I don't expect a modern £500 phone to have this issue.
I love the phone but issues like this aren't acceptable and I'm getting really frustrated to the extent I might even send it back for refund under not fit for purpose.
Also I have problems with unstable network. Has anyone tried to restore the firmware?

I've turned off 4G as I don't have a 4G SIM, so I'm gonna see if this helps resolve the issue. If not, then I'm going to try and flash a different firmware as my handset came with a EUR firmware and there seems to be some differences between this and the UK firmwares. If that doesn't fix it, I'm going to try the AUS firmware which is a later version.
If I get an success or otherwise I'll post back.
I'm noticing that HTTPS traffic always seems to work fine, but standard non-encrypted traffic doesn't. Anyone else? Seems a bit weird.
