[RECOVERY][TOOL]MazWoz Recovery Flasher - Nexus 10 Android Development

MazWoz Recovery Flasher

Windows only, linux tool to come soon...
This is a tool to flash a custom recovery (CWMR/TWRP) on your Nexus 10. It comes with TWRP, but you can easily select any recovery image.
This program is a work in program and will be updated as bugs are found.
Directions
Download and unzip
Plug device in to PC
Boot into bootloader
Power down
Hold volume up + volume down + power
Run application
Select proper fastboot.exe, adb.exe, and recovery.img
Hit the Flash!!!! button
Follow the on screen prompts
Press Volume up twice and then power to go into recovery
I am not responsible for any damage done to your device. This does void the warranty and I provide none. If you are faint at heart, don't do it. If you are a noob user, I wouldn't recommend it. This is for those that are feeling lazy, but want to flash a new recovery.

Troubleshooting/FAQs
Q. My Nexus is stuck in a boot-loop after installing a custom recovery using this tool
A. The process of unlocking the bootloader via fastboot CAN corrupt the /data partition. When this happens simply wipe the data/factory reset in recovery.

[MISC] Vision BaconBits 0.3

MOD EDIT - Not needed if you're already on CM6.1+
Add some bacon to your G2!
Now that we have root, and our team is hard at work on getting CM running, here's a quick "bacon bits" package.
* Unified Vision/Ace kernel with overclocking and lots of goodies - https://github.com/CyanogenMod/htc-kernel-vision (oc from coolbho3000, install SetCPU to use it)
* Notification lights fix - flash speaker LED for notifications
* Set ro.secure=0
* Add Superuser from ChainsDD
* Busybox
The kernel is based on the HTC ACE (Desire HD) release which is 2.6.32.21. I merged in the necessary changes for Vision so we are up to date with the latest!
You'll need a recovery which can flash stuff signed with testkeys. Use ROM Manager to install Clockwork recovery.
BaconBits: http://android.chemlab.org/android/vision/vision-baconbits-0.3.zip
MD5SUM: afbc157e888f08bf5c12cd8b66750b70
Push to your SD card and flash it in recovery.
With interactive governor and full OC, I'm hitting 2300+ on Quadrant.
Thank you for your hard work! Looking forward to CM on my G2!
Flashed and good to go
EDIT: The newest Rom Manager now has G2 support, and Baconbits will be added to the CM repo, so all this can be achieved via Rom Manager
Outline of steps: http://goo.gl/1VAXf
Noob walkthrough:
* Setup Android SDK and install drivers/udev rules as needed
* S-Off your g2 http://goo.gl/Sc134
* Copy vision-baconbits-0.3.zip to your sdcard, rename it update.zip (you can do this via adb using: adb push vision-baconbits-0.3.zip /sdcard/update.zip)
* Reboot to fastboot mode (adb reboot bootloader)
* Flash the recovery http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/vision/g2-recovery-test-keys.img : fastboot flash recovery g2-recovery-test-keys.img (if you get 'waiting for device' your phone either isnt in fastboot mode, or you will need to fix your sdk drivers)
* You should get two 'OKAY's once recovery flash is complete
* Press the power button once; then the vol down button to highlight 'recovery'; then the power button again to select the 'recovery' option
* The phone will reboot to recovery
* Press volume up+power to show the recovery menu
* Select the 'Apply:update.zip' option, using volume keys to navigate, and power button as [enter]
* Once the zip applies, reboot
If you get signature verification errors on the zip, it means your fastboot flash of recovery failed to apply, redo it
hot stuff you guys are quick
Thanks! Can't wait for a full CM rom
might just have to root tonight!

Your fastboot command would work if the recovery image was named recovery.img from the start
If they dont rename it, it would be:

You should know how members of all ranks are with typing just what they are told or see
can someone simplify the steps..what I have to do? sorry I'm a noob at this. How do i "fastboot" and the other stuff? Help the noob!

Put the recovery file in your sdk tools folder, reboot your phone holding volume down, select fastboot using power key, via command prompt "cd" into your tools folder, then run the command in the first post (the fastboot reco... one)
then put the bacon bits file on your sdcard, rename to update.zip, restart your phone holding the volume down button.
once in the menu on your phone use the volume keys to select recovery and hit power button to select it.
hit volume up and power at the same time to reveal the recovery menu, select the update.zip option and power to start it, when its down hit reboot.
Does this bacon bits include an ability to wake the screen by pushing the trackpad? Hitting the power button to turn on the screen isn't the easiest thing.
Does wifi calling still work?

How to install Clock Work Mod on a100 with unlocked boot loader !

DISCLAIMER
Thank you to all the DEV'S who have made this possible BIG UPS TO YOU
This worked for me, and in theory if my instructions are followed carefully it will work for you.
However if your results are not the same I am in no way responsible for any dammage done to your tablet!
THE GOOD STUFF
This was tested on Acer A100 on the latest ICS LEAK found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510706
Also my PC is running windows 7 x64
(Follow install instructions carefully)
First install the latest ICS leak http://vache-android.com/v1/index.ph...files&file=148
Once complete do a factory data reset on your device from the settings/backup and restore menu on the tablet
When that is complete, Root your Device using the method found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
( again Follow instructions Carefully )
BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOUR DEVICE IS ROOTED BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!!
Unlock your BOOTLOADER using the method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557445
(Really be careful here!)
This is where it gets tricky download http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=369 for your OS and extract recovery_thor17_403.img to the root of your platform-tools folder for instance mine is C:\android-sdk\platform-tools
Once completed on your PC open a command prompt as an administrator and navigate to your platform-tools folder from cmd prompt e.g. cd c:\android-sdk\platform-tools and hit enter
next type the following commands:
adb reboot bootloader
once in bootloader mode type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_thor17_403.img
and hit enter you will see it flash to your device within a couple of seconds.
once complete with the tablet in upright landscape mode ( home button on the right hand side ) power the device down and power it back on while holding the leftmost volume button firmly when it vibrates you may release the power button.
continue to hold the volume button until you see Booting recovery kernel image on the screen.
if all went well you now have cwm on your device
now for rom manager!
boot back into android OS and navigate to the google market, search for rom manager in the upper search pane.
download the app and install
open the app and press ok
next press flask clockworkmod recovery
next confirm your phone model
a popup will say your device is not officially supported press yes
next confirm version 3.x+
and you should be good to go

First check out this post http://www.acertabletforum.com/foru...rkmod-recovery-your-acer-iconia-tab-a200.html
Download the updated file from the above website, extract it to your desktop, and run acera200simpletool.bat and follow the onscreen instructions.
Once complete download the rom manager app from the market and install it.
Once installed open from manager and choose flash clockwork mod recovery from the top of the list, then confirm your device is Acer a100. It will say there is currently no recovery for your device and ask if you installed a custom one, choose yes and select the second option it should say 3.x.x or something to that effect. Again confirm your selection and tada you now have cwm and a working from manager. I have tested this and made a complete backup already. Cheers

hello masterpcker...Did you install anything else first? Were you just using the standard a100 root? Also, did you unlock your bootloader beforehand? thanks so much friend
Yes I unlocked my boot loader first, and my device was rooted so all I did was run the .bat file from the above website and choose option 3 install recovery only. I am about to try a modded a500 from and see what it does.

I will be eager to hear how that comes out! I wish you the best of luck, but I'm not real confident. let us know the outcome if you don't mind....good luck!
For some reason I followed the directions to install CWM and it doesn't work.
When I try to boot to recovery all I see is the android mascot on it's back with a warning sign. If I press the home button it brings up the Android System Recovery, which I believe is the stock recovery. I'm not even sure how to select the items. I can only highlight the menu items using the volume keys.
It doesn't look like the cwm that I have flashed on my atrix.
Any ideas?
Edit...
Btw, I did unlock my bootloader
Well the a500 modded rom was a bust, it just booted to a really colorful screen lol. But my Android backup worked great for reinstall

What's the syntax did you use to dd to the device?
I found this dd syntax in the other thread. That the same one you used?
Code:
su
dd if=/mnt/external_sd/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
-Extract the zip folder "recoverycwma100" ( It's a recovery into Acer a200 simple tool )
-Copy ''recovery.img'' into your external sd card
-open a terminal emulator to your A100 ( root acces !!! )
- Write the following commands :
su
dd if = / mnt / external_sd / recovery.img of = / dev/block/mmcblk0p1
-wait a message '' xxxx bytes transferred in... ''
-exit terminal
-open root explorer with a mount system
-rename the file '' install-recovery.sh'' into /etc/ it '' install-recovery.bak''
Reboot into recovery with volum down + power , and Enjoy

Can't we just go into fastboot and use fastboot flash recovery recovery.img?
If you're running linux or just want to use adb it's way more simple than it looks.
Code:
Adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
And if you brick your device by accidently installing the wrong boot.img
find your respected rom .zip file that you are currently using and use this.
Code:
Adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot

I can confirm that I have already flashed the recovery.img via fastboot, however cwm still fails on my particular tab. I did a full factory reset and flashed the entire new ics through recovery with the exact same results. I will be investigating the cause of some tabs doing this later tonight when I get home from work. If someone figures this out please post. I have gotten the recovery.img to flash via the a200cwm, however android exclamation upon recovery attempt. i have tried all three paths with no success. I am almost certain that it is a problem with the rooting method, but i won't have time to have a look until tonight. thanks and goodluck! I think the problem could be because of installing different rooting methods in the past, however I have yet to find a way to solve it.

[Q] Power button respond prob and Hboot prob

My phones stucked on Fastboot and it doesnt let me to go(select) recovery or anything. It only read PD99IMG.zip files and hardware keys only work to select yes or no(update or not).I was on CWM recovey and i flashed CWM img.But still phones doesnt let me to get into recovery! Still can reads PD99IMG.zip and only doing that. What should i do?I also tried RUU.exe.But it tell me to connect phone via usb even it still connected.
TIA
P.S.
Flashed CWM recovery image through Android Flasher and able to get into recovery! So i restored previous backed up CM.Everything perfect except these things. Now POWER BUTTON DOESNT RESPOND CORRECTLY and STILL CAN'T GET IN TO RECOVERY BY HOLDING VOLUME DOWN+POWER BUTTON. But ROM Manager CAN get in to recovery! What is now?
1st power button didn't work. Then i gave a factory reset. Nothing changed. After few hours, power button begun to respond, but not correctly. I mean, when i press on power button, screen doesn't off. But when i long press on power button and after few seconds, phone respond(show the power button long press menu). Also i can select Power off, reboot etc..This seems a software problem. What shold i do?
Ah.Another thing,I think i have Stock Hboot.Should i flash CM Hboot because i have a CM rom?
TIA

" [2] ADVANCED BOOT PROBLEMS
S-OFF
"I'm S-OFF, I can't boot recovery and my phone doesn't
boot"
For one reason or another, your recovery image is corrupted
and when you try to boot into recovery, all you get is the
HTC screen and your phone doesn't boot. It is relatively
simple to fix, and there is more than one way to go about
doing this. All you need to do, is to flash a new recovery
image.
Possible causes
- I have no idea, however if somebody has an explanation
then feel free to PM me.
Repairing recovery, booting phone:
NOTE: If you have a PVT4 Device, go to "Flashing custom
recovery". If you are unsure, check just to be safe.
#METHOD 1#
Method One uses Android Flasher to flash the recovery
image.
[STEP1] - Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the
POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP2] - Download Android Flasher
[STEP3] - Download the recovery image . Put it in a place you
can remember.
[STEP4] - Run android flasher, tick "Recovery", and press
"Begin"
[STEP5] - Browse to where you downloaded the recovery
image, select it, and press "open"
[STEP6] - repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards
#METHOD 2#
Method two uses cmd and requires Android SDK to be set
up.
[STEP1] - Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the
POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP2] - Download the recovery image . Rename it to
"recovery.img" for simplicity, and place it in the following
directory:
Code:
C:\
[STEP3] - then in cmd type the following commands
Code:
cd c:\android-sdk\tools
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
fastboot oem gencheckpt (this command boots you into recovery, ignore the feedback from
[STEP4] - repeat [1] from [STEP4] onwards"
Im trying with AndroidFlasher .Problem is link to recovery.img is not working. Can you tell me the full name of recovery i should google and download?
TIA
download ClockWorkMod recovery for bravo then you can flash any custom rom... 4ext is highly recommended but you should download it via app (download from here)
Is it really necessary to open another thread about your problem?

[Q] DHD stucked on boot logo

Hi all
I have a little trouble with my phone, because I did some stupid things on it...
I had android 2.3.5 with 3.12.405.1
So first I unlocked bootloader with htc-dev page, and now I know I shouldn't do that. Then after I found here a post what describes what should I do if I was noob and use the htc-dev. I followed the instructions so I can use the revolution hd zip and installed it.
After that reboot my phone and stucked on the htc boot logo. I can reach the 4text recovery menu and everything but I have no clue what should I do now. I tried the factory reset and everything what I found. Maybe I have to put back the original rom, but I don't know how to do it.

Hey
Thanks for the help, I'll try it afternoon
I did exactly the same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31211732&postcount=396
The procedure to do that is -
1. Download the attached zip file, extract it to Desktop or wherever you want using 7-zip/WinZIP.
2. Open the ROM zip file you downloaded. Extract boot.img from this zip to the previously folder which you just extracted in the above step.
3. Turn your phone completely off (pull out battery). Then hold 'volume down' while pressing power and continue holding it till you see a white screen with 3 green skateboarding Androids. This is the bootloader.
4. FASTBOOT will be the first selected option in the list. Press 'Power' to select it. Make sure that now it shows FASTBOOT in red under the initial green text.
5. Connect your phone to computer. See that the red FASTBOOT changes to FASTBOOT USB.
4. Open the adb_fastboot folder, open 'Start here.bat'. It will open a command prompt window in that folder.
5. Type 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'. You only need to do this once. It will flash 4ext Touch Recovery, which is better than CWM (thanks to madmaxx82 for the awesome recovery).
6. Type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'. You will need to do this everytime you flash a custom ROM, but before you do so be sure you've copied the boot.img from the ROM zip to the adb_fastboot folder.
7. You should see some stuff like 'Sending data... data sent successfully'. If there's any error at this step report it here.
8. Once it has done everything and displayed successful confirmations, disconnect phone.
9. Hightlight BOOTLOADER and press 'power' to select it. Press 'volume down' to highlight RECOVERY and 'power' to select it.
10. Once you're rebooted into 4ext Touch Recovery, go to 'install zip from SD card', browse for the ROM zip file in your SD card. If you haven't copied the zip to SD card, go back a step, connect phone to computer, select 'toggle USB storage' and then copy it onto the SD card. Once you have the ROM zip on the sdcard, go to the main screen of the recovery, choose 'wipe/format'->format all partitions (except SD card). Now go back to main screen, choose 'install zip from sdcard' and browse to the ROM zip location, select it and confirm that you want to flash it.
11. When the flash process is done, go back to the main screen of recovery, and press reboot now. You will reboot into the custom ROM.
Click to collapse
After reboot I stucked on the htc boot logo screen.
If you are s-on, then you have to flash the boot.img from the rom you installed using fastboot.

NO RPMB (how to install TWRP, a new ROM and using Magisk)

Hello, I have sent my phone to warranty and after that I received a phone with NO RPMB and after many frustrations I found (with help of many users and forums) how to workaround this..
To start:
Download boot image from here
Download twrp from the official website
Change the name to boot.img and twrp.img and put it in the platform-tools folder
Open the terminal there
Download your favourite rom
Enter fastboot mode on your phone
!!!!After this you will loose all of your data!!!!
Paste this to the terminal
fastboot oem unlock
(select yes on your phone)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot format userdata
fastboot format cache
Reboot to recovery (if it doesn't enter at the first time enter download mode again and restart to recovery)
After that you have twrp and can flash every rom.. yay!!!
Wipe everything.
Copy the rom zip to your phone using MTP
Install your fancy new rom
If you want to install magisk:
Install the magisk manager.
On the app select install and select patch image file. (it will create a new boot image already patched)
After that install the new image (patched_boot.img) using twrp
Do a clean instalation of your ROM (recomended) or a Factory Reset first
Reboot to twrp
Select install
Click in install image
Select patched_boot.img
Select install to boot partition
Reboot.
Install magisk manager and do the sugested setup.
You now have magisk working
Thanks to all the users that helped me!!
I had real trouble getting twrp to work the last time I tried this a few months ago. Followed the steps here and am now on pixel experience with magisk. Thanks!
Hello, im in the same situation of NO RPMB. This procedure will permanently lets have bootloader unlocked?
About Magisk, i can install it in usual way once im in the recovery? (I mean download latest stable version for Bullhead and flash via TWRP).
Thanks.

My bootloader is still unlocked after following this guide
For Magisk:
-Install your custom ROM and boot it up (without root)
-Then extract the boot.img from the ROM zip file and save it on your phone storage.
-Install the Magisk manager apk
-In Magisk manager, select install Magisk> choose the patch boot image option and -Select the boot.img you previously saved.
Once it's done, reboot into twrp and flash the patched boot.img. When you reboot Magisk will be working.
I've had no issues with my bootloader, even after an ota update for pixel experience.
Thank you, i will try it.
Another question. I never tried dowload mode before, as i read in other post i should Plug USB cable into pc, Hold volume up and power at the same time and plug phone into usb that's already connected to pc, right?
When in download mode i can fire up fastboot commands like im in bootloader mode?
So then after do last command fastboot format cache i can reboot to recovery from terminal using adb reboot recovery or i can / should do it from device?
About twrp it's ok to use the latest 3.2.3.0 official version or the 3.2.1 4core version from here as someone suggested from Reddit? https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-4-core-t3796656

The official twrp works for fine for me, haven't tried the 4 core version but it can't hurt to try if you need it.
Power off your phone then press and hold volume - and power to enter bootloader, then connect to your pc and follow the steps in the OP
So i have to enter in bootloader mode? At point 6 of OP there is written to enter in the download mode, this makes me confusing.
Can anyone explain me latest 2 commands why they are needed?
fastboot format userdata
fastboot format cache

This thread is fairly comprehensive;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/moto-nexus-5x-sticky-roll-t3207487
Holding volume - and power takes you to fastboot mode (download mode essentially), theres also an option to reboot into recovery (selectable using the volume keys.)
Formatting user data and cache is necessary prior to installing a new rom (especially if moving from stock). You lose all data (back up first!) But a clean flash is the best place to start.

Thanks for the explanation but for installing a new ROM usually you can do factory reset directly in TWRP, plus doing all the wipes, this should be enough.
About fastboot mode and download mode, they are completely different, fastboot mode: vol down + power, download mode for LG: Plug USB cable into pc, Hold volume up and power at the same time and plug phone into usb.
My question is what i can do in download mode? As OP says after entering download mode open terminal and use fastboot commands.

You need to use vol- and power to go into fastboot mode then connect to the pc. As for userdata and cache, if you don't clean them when coming from stock you will have issues (your data will be encrypted if you're on stock?). As I said this guide worked for me. The op was talking about fastboot mode in the 6th option (also there is much more information in the thread I linked above)
sorry for the confusing i wanted to say fastboot mode..
i knew the thread that you are saying but most people doesn't want to search so I made a little thread only with the needed parts..
I use it myself so I have a place to remember all the steps when I need to change the rom to a new one or when I make experiments and brick my phone XD
If anyone know anything else that should be in here just say, I really want to improve the post
Hi. I just went through the whole process several times (I have tried the different modified boot images from the dedicated post) and my device is still locked [emoji24] any suggestions?

your device will always be locked this is a workaround to get twrp, new roms and magisk while it stays locked..
with twrp usable it won't matter if you are locked or not

Thanks for the answer. You mean that now I have twrp, I can flash custom Roms with my bootloader locked without any issue?
Envoyé de mon ONEPLUS A3003 en utilisant Tapatalk
Yes if you have TWRP you can install custom ROMs, custom Kernel's, magisk, super su, etc..
the locked bootloader only prevents you from using fastboot commands like the one needed for installing custom recovery
Now that you have TWRP you can use it for everything
Hello everyone, I also have a nexus 5x with motherboard that has been replaced under warranty and unfortunately I can't keep the bootloader unlocked.
I tried the procedure you have indicated, but at this point there is the problem, because after inserting the boot.img and twrp.img inside the phone, then when I go to do the unlocking procedure with 'fastboot oem unlock (select yes on your phone) 'in practice the memory is deleted on the phone, so I lose the previously uploaded files, and therefore I can no longer continue with the flash procedure of boot.img and twrp.img because they are no longer present in memory.
I hope I made myself understood, maybe I am wrong, or is there a way to solve this problem?

fastboot is for the files on your PC not your phone
you need to put the files inside of platform-tools and then open cmd inside it and use the fastboot commands
fastboot will take the files of your PC
Hello, thank you for your information, since I haven't done modding on phones for a long time, I didn't remember exactly the procedure with fastboot and therefore I didn't understand where I had to put the files, but in the end I did it.
Thank you

Why is a custom boot image needed? I don't want to root.
