This could be a post in so many threads that I decided to put it upfront - I am sure that if improper, one of the moderators can delete it or better move it at the right place.
I have been struggling flashing my Samsung Note II for the last few days because as most of others who encounters those issues, I just did not really pay attention to what I needed to do. Contrary to newbies, I have been flashing for years, and still…
Rooting the Samsung Note II is amazingly simple utilizing MSkip’s Toolkit on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155.
Take a few minutes to look at either QBKingg77 or Wwjoshdew posts where they graciously posted How-To videos on (QBKingg77 post is on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969947 and Wwjoshdew’s post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959113). It is almost full proof.
The only concerns in installing the toolkit are:
• A correct installation of the Samsung Drivers – and you need all 4 of them.
• Choosing the right device.
This being said, as you get into flashing ROMs and Mods, you will need to pay more attention to whether the ROM you are using Odexed or De-Odexed one. Without getting into details, if you do not want add any mod (then why do you even flash it to start with) the Odexed one is what you want. If you want to be able to add new mods, what you need is a De-Odexed one. Although a bit faster and smoother on old phones, on the Note II with its quad core processor, that difference is barely discernible.
Essentially flash your Note II with a De-Odexed ROM!!!
This being said, in flashing my unit, I have run into additional complications which quite a few people have documented on the different threads without a good explanation usually blaming the mod they were trying to flash such as the multi-windows or the 4 in 1 shutdown. In reality a lot of those issues are related to the disassociated baseband version and build number which should be the same…
Going to the Setting/About Device, you need to verify that they match, for example my Baseband was a L900VPALJC while the ROM I was flashing was a L900VPALJC1. That was an issue which resulted into inconsistencies.
The same goes for the Mods themselves as some mods are built for one or the other version. The Mods need to be matching your ROM and your baseband to avoid any subsequent glitches.
Hoping that this help others…

So I have a baseband of LJ1 but my rom is LJC. How do I get my baseband to LJC?
This still does not belong in development ... its nice that you tried to help some newbs but you should know better if you have been flashing for years . If this was a higher traffic board you would have been trolled by now .... get a mod to move and have a nice night

Noob question. I have been searching threads and could not find an answer.
I've been running PH's Blazer ROM v1.6 LG2 with an LF9 modem about 4 weeks now. I am wanting to flash SS's Team VeNuM Odexed Blue ROM, which is currently in v1.4 as of 8/16, because I want to get a taste of an Odexed ROM AND - I like blue
Here's my question:
Do I need to flash the first version of the new ROM, after a full wipe of course, and then flash the most recent update - OR - Can I simply flash the most recent update ROM?
If I need to flash the original first, do I need to flash each update, in sequential order - or can I simply go to the most recent update?
My Sprint SGS3 is my first Android device, which means my first rooting experience, which means I'm currently residing in noobopolis. I appreciate the support from the members of this forum, and their appreciation and understanding of the naïveté of a rooting virgin.
BTW - I am running CWM 3.0.7 & have ODIN3 v3.04. Do either of those need to be updated, prior to flashing?

I see no reason why you would have to mess with CWM or ODIN... as for flashing a different ROM, just flash the newest version of it. V1.4 in this case. Flashing an old version and then every updated version after that would be pointless. New versions are typically issues as a full ROM. Unless for some odd reason the dev is issuing them as small updates and not the full ROM, and I've never seen anyone do that.
If you flash that ROM and later a new version comes out, you can just flash the new one on top of it. Your first flash with Team Venum ROM should be the newest version.
Thank you!

Wonderful, thank you! I figured that was the case, but when you're dealing with an expensive device I'm more confortable performing some due diligence first - especially when the consequence of not doing so can have such a negative impact. My SGS3 is a beautiful device (when outside of my Otter Box Defender), but I'd rather not use it as a paper weight....
Of course, it's always good to get your facts first. As long as you follow instructions you shouldn't have issues. Make sure the ROM is for your device, read comments so you know what to expect etc... Stay informed and you will do well.

Just finished flashing Odexed Blue v1.4, no problems at all. Went ahead and used Team Sonic's Modem Flash tool as well & updated to LG8 modem.
Titanium Backup was a life saver, love that app!

Hello everyone, new registeree here but I've been lurking for longer than I can remember. Very excellent community here and I'd like to make up for all the thank yous I haven't been able to say to you all from just lurking around for guides and fixes for a lot of my problems. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
I "spider webbed" the screen on my T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH T999 that had a baseband version T999UVDLJA. I never had any issues with the phone and loved it to death until the screen broke. I paid the dedictable and had the insurance company send me a replacement immediately. My new S3 came in and I was so excited up until ALL of my calls were dropping. I didn't notice any kind of pattern to the dropped calls, but considering the circumstances I immediately thought hardware issue with the "new" phone they sent me. This "new" device now has a baseband version of T999UVDLJC. So I called T-Mobile and spoke with a tech rep, then transferred to a level 2 tech and pinpointed the issue. The towers in my area are having problems communicating with the UVDLJC but there are no reported incidents with the UVDLJA having communication issues(which explains why I never had this problem with my previous device.)
I did get to briefly experience the new Cyanogen nightly builds before this issue was discovered and fell in love with it. However, until I can get this phone flashed back to the UVDLJA build I will continue to have this drop call issue. Will I have compatibility issues reverting back to the old UVDLJA build and then flashing the Cyanogen nightlly? Is it even possible? If so, can anyone link me to the correct, up-to-date resources to use to get this done?
You can go to Doc Holiday's modem thread stickied in the Dev section and download the LJA modem and flash it. You don't need to flash a ROM to have a different modem. Doc has a map on page 2 of that thread that shows people's entries of their location and modem. I personally use LI7, which was pulled from a leaked JB ROM from a few months ago. That is a far cry from the current LJC that is the latest but it works the best for me.
Moral of the stroy is that you can flash modems all day long and not have to flash ROMs too. That is as long as you have a custom recovery of course.

I am using ClockWork as my recovery. So I'm understanding that the LJA is called the modem, and it will not change when I flash a ROM(such as Cyanogen.) That's great news!
I've determined with T-Mobile that the modem is the issue so at least for now I can use Doc's LJA modem combined with Cyanogen and continue business as usual at least until T-Mobile gets their slow butts out here to fix the communication with the LJC and the towers.
Yes that is correct. The modem stays preserved when you flash a ROM as it is on an entirely different partition. Only time it would change is when you use a full Odin package. This means you can flash Wicked or CM10.1 or PACman or RootBox and your baseband will be left untouched.
Btw, for your first post, I give you a golf clap. Well informed and detailed enough for me to diagnose and answer. Granted you could have searched and found you answer but compared to some of the BS questions we get around here, you are leaps and bounds beyond those. Keep it up and if you've lurked as much as you say, please make sure to help out someone else in their time of need.
Good luck and happy flashing.
Exceptional, this is exactly what I needed to hear after a rough day of overdramatizing with T-Mobile about cancelling my service.
Thank you so much, and I do plan to post regularly and learn as much as I can. I will contribute to the best of my abilities.
Alright, so I am going to be getting this phone in a few days. A guy is trading me his white S3 + $120 for my HTC One. I just wanted to know a few things. 1. he had it rooted but he unrooted it and I believe he is on the latest update, how can I root it back? 2. what's the latest update name? (MK3?) 3. Can I flash 4.4 roms on the latest update? 4. What kernels can be flashed on what radio? Or does it just matter which rom? Thanks

This thread will be the one you want for getting the phone rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2596697
The OP, @goku2778, is very helpful and responsive.
As to your other concerns:
The latest update is MK3, which contains the Knox bootloader. However, Knox is only an issue if you try to use Odin to flash older firmware. You can flash any custom ROM you want-4.1.2, 4.3, 4.4. I highly recommend just being on the cutting edge and going with 4.4 KitKat. Carbon is phenomenal, as is CyanogenMod11. CyanFox is my other current favorite, but there is a lot of work being done by a lot of awesome devs and maintainers, so feel free to try a bunch to see what you like best! Kernels and radios are also like ROM's, in terms of you can safely flash any of the available kernels and any radio you desire to find the best ones for your personal use.
Once your phone arrives, feel free to PM me or post if you need any help or suggestions, there are a lot of helpful members cruising around on this forum!

Alright, thank you sir, big help, I will be looking forward to the devs and helpers in this forum! :good:
This is my device at this point:
1. Rooted 4.4.2
2. Stock T-Mobile ROM
3. I can flash SinLess ROM v2.1.2 with no issues after reboot
ANY Aroma ROM I try to flash (for example, DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6), after reboot after installing results in a bootloop at the Samsung screen.
Are NONE of the Aroma ROMs not working on the T-Mobile Note 3?
I would really like to flash the DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6 but can't if I can't get past the Samsung screen on a bootloop.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Darthstalker is a 4.3 base ROM. It won't work on a 4.4 bootloader, which is what you have if you took the OTA or flashed the Odin 4.4 package. It's not Aroma, it's just that most of the Aroma installer ROMs haven't been updated to 4.4 yet. And Samsung made the bootloader incompatible, so once you are on 4.4, you can't boot a 4.3 ROM.
Same with recovery. Make sure you flash 4.4 bootloader versions of TWRP/CWM or it won't boot.
so what IS a 4.4.2 with Aroma and NOT AOSP?

Thank you for the insight, I was seriously under the (wrong) impression that DeathStalker was a 4.4.2 ROM. I really didn't know.
IS there a list of 4.4.2 stock rooted ROMs with Aroma? You wrote "most of the Aroma installers haven't been updated to 4.4 yet." Which have? It's very confusing because honestly, i was looking and didn't see that DeathStalker was a 4.3 ROM. I went back and looked and noticed a bunch of JB stuff in the list of enhancements which gave it away.
Well, if anyone can suggest a good stable 4.4.2 ROM with Aroma and not AOSP, I want to keep the SPEN functionality that is still missing in CM. Although I do LOVE CM. Used it religiously on my S3.
thank you in advance.
I honestly don't know of any that have. Any reason you want an Aroma installer? It's not like you see it after the install is done. Most modded stock ROMs will list the "base" ROM they started from in the OP. Check that, and if it's a 4.4 base, it will likely work fine on your 4.4 bootloader phone. There's going to be a bit of a rough patch for a while as the ROMs get updated and users get updated. You just have to read up on each one to verify before installing. Just do a thread search for "bootloader" or "4.4" and read some of the posts. Chances are, it's been asked and answered in the thread if you look.
I'm just running a rooted stock build without Knox/CIQ, the stock ZIP that teshxx posted in the dev forum. Then just used Titanium Backup to un-install any bloatware I didn't want. Add a few Xposed modules, and it's a quite good ROM.
If you like CM, the SPEN does work. It acts a bit like a mouse. It's the built-in apps that don't work. You can replace the functionality of many of them. But if you really like some of them, that's not a great option. I ran CM/AOSP builds for a while, but decided the stability of a stock ROM was more important to me right now. I'll probably be back on CM after a while. I like the speed boost from the slimmer ROM.
Awesome reply

What a thoughtful and excellent reply. Thank you very much. I'm looking at MyROM Revolution and may download that.
Honestly, I wanted Aroma because it seemed so much more customizable upon installation rather than taking the vision that a dev had for the ROM they created. I may well be wrong and thank you for the update on CM and SPEN, good to know. I just didn't check out the official CM thread as I had heard no SPEN support yet.
I'm running Sinless ROM and while good, it has a certain non-customizable feel to it. Just looking for something lighter, just not as light until everything is stable of CM.
thank you and if anyone has any suggestions for any 4.4.2 ROMs with (or without) Aroma please pass them on.
Is there a list of 4.4.2 ROMs that are compatible?

A few questions:
1. Where is the international forum for the Note 3?
2. Where can I find a link to the X-NOTE ROM? (I searched at the top-level of T-Mobile Note 3 forums and found nothing in results)
**UPDATE: IS THIS THE FORUM? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472301
3. Is the international X-NOTE ROM compatible with the T-Mobile device and if so, what is lost/not working in the international version that exists in the T-Mobile version?
thanks in advance.

It's that one. N look at there questions&answers thread has how to flash it basically download wifi nfc blue tooth fix and wootevers kernel. Wipe of course. Flash rom(CSC is default and also choose NO kernel) one done go on and flash wootevers kernel then the wifi fix. Zip should be a go I did it reverse and wifi was bad flashed it again all gravy

Oh also the side effect I had. It deleted everything in my internal so make sure you put the kernel and wifi fix on ext SD so you'll hace it available. You'll eventually get your pictures back and music too but not 3rd downloads from the net or apps like wallpapers of screen shots. Be aware
Ok,
I have a question that I am embarrassed to ask, because I feel like I should have been able to just do the research myself... (I am a newb... but not a complete newb!) ....
But after spending most of the day ( over 5 hours...) I am just frustrated and confused.... so I figured I would admit my ignorance, and ask for advice. (PLEASE.. if this is the wrong place to post this, please tell me where to do so.. I do not want to spam a bunch of different thread so I am only posting here, unless told to go elsewhere....)
I have an unlocked and rooted tmoble Note 3 (love it!!!).
Currently Using wicked rom
Details:
Android version 4.3
Baseband ver N900TUVUBMI7
Kernel ver 3.4.0-670611
[email protected] #1
Fri Sept 13 23:45:38 KST 2013
Build number wicked_N3v5
SEWLinux status Enforcing.
SO.. when i got my note 3 a while ago, I unlocked/rooted/ROM'd it.. with wicked rom... which I love!!!
... but recently I have been having issues with my phone... and I have noticed that "wicked" does not have any updates or even any posts in its thread in the last 2 years.
My issues have been occasional random reboots, the GPS getting flaky, as well as random notifications about various apps no longer working .
I attribute some of these issues to when my battery ran low... and died during a reboot... (seems to have started after that).
So my question: I would like to do a clean re-install... and need to figure out what ROM is best for me. I keep seeing roms that LOOK awesome.. but then as I read there threads, see things like "hotspot does not work" etc....
What I NEED:
1)Working hot spot !(prefer it does not report usage)
2) Prefer touchwiz (Still learning the stylus... but that what makes the note a note!!)
3) WORKING GPS
4) STABLE
Would LIKE:
1) No bloatware!
2) Not report hotspot usage to carrier
3) Simple instruction to install (and be told about updates!)
4) Ability to record calls would be nice (saw that on one ROM.. looks cool)
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start?
I am now using android 4.3 ... should I upgrade that before or after installing a new ROM?
I would just re-install wicked .. but I worry that it is not staying compatible with the updates??
Any help is appreciated....
Lbdanny
I am on the same baseband and have also been on Wicked, as well as DarthStalker and Hyperdrive. All are good and all seem to have similar issues. I'm also looking to flash something new and am noticing the same things you are. Unfortunately I think the roms I mentioned seem to be the most stable and complete unless you are willing to give up TW and the pen features. If you don't mind that then CM Is an option or also AOKP. I was on the AOKP for a while and liked it but I am a TW fan so I went back. I think Hyperdrive is probably the best of them. I have only had rebooting issues when using data. (I also had the same issue on DarthStalker and Wicked) so for now to get the features you want I would suggest Hyperdrive until they get all the bugs out of Lollypop. Plus you will also have to update your baseband before moving on to L. I am about to update mine and try out the DomPop rom. I'll retort back and let you know what I think.
