[Q] help with touch cwm - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all
So downloaded and installed touch cwm from ROM manager. To issues. Tho every version of cwm I try fix permissions doesn't seem to work. I'll hit cuz permissions and it will say its fixing permission and then just sit on that for a long ass time. Have to pull the battery to get any response out of it... anyone else? Did the same thing to me when I used the non touch version of cwm as well.
I first tried using twrp but it gave me error 7s so I moved to cwm (think prefer twrp)
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

HELP.

My wife is going to be pissed if this does not get resolved.
I wanted to backup her phone. I already flashed Mr X's telus stock rom a week or so ago. I realized I hadn't done a nandroid backup so I though i'd install rom manager to quickly backup that rom. When I selected it it said clockworkmod recovery wasn't installed so I started the process to flash it (i thought it was strange). It went slow and I thought that I'd flash it again for good measure.
I selected the backup option expecting it to reboot into recovery and back up but nothing happens. I tried to pull the battery and boot into recovery but nothing but black, same with a regular pull and try to boot. I get the boot screen for a second and nothing but black. It will go into download mode.
My guess is it did not flash cwm successfully and this is the cause of problems. How can I fix this without having to wipe even if I can get recovery flashed properly? Can I flash cwm onto it from my pc and possiblly have it boot properly?? I would like to not have to set her phone up again and wipe her sms and things.
Thanks

+1 if it doesn't boot up after that might try flashing darkside cachewipe. If that don't work she's gonna be mad at you for flashing rom again and wiping her stuff, might try a dirty flash to save her data.

Thank you all for the quick advice. I flashed CWM and it rebooted right into my wife's glorious setup! I had the prompt to assign Apex launcher as default but that was it at a glance.

^^I have found this to be the issue with anything that does not revolve around my wife or child.. It used to be the phone she complained about, until I got a car.. then I started getting complaints about "I really don't see the purpose of brighter lights" or something of that nature.
My wife doesn't let me touch her phone anymore....
Sent from my super fantastic SGS2 running AOKP
Mine complains, but also won't take my advice on what phone to get. The truth she'll never admit: her G2 running ILWT CM7 is the best any phone has treated her yet, and if she'd just try to learn what a problem means when I've occurs, she could solve it in 10 secs.
My wife doesnt like me wiping her data at all when im flashing a rom...even if her rom is full of bugs and needs a serious update lol stubborn

Franco.kernel updater

Does anyone have experience in using this? I bought it but it does not work. 1st it forecloses immediately if I try and back up my current kernel. I have also auto-flashed every kernel in there and they say successful but are not. I reboot and same OLD kernel. I am not sure what I am missing but very frustrated with this app.

He has done two or three updates in the last couple days to address those issues. You should at least read his kernel thread, even if you are new and cannot post there yet. Read the last three or four pages.

(HUMOR) (S3 Edition) You know Your Rooted When......

I saw this thread in the Epic and Rezound forums and related to most of them so I thought I would bring the fun over here... so just post and complete this sentence "You know you're rooted when.."
Examples:
masaidjet: You know you're rooted when you tell a neighborhood hoe to " wipe her cache "
wscott9903: You know you're rooted when 1/2 of your apps require superuser permission.
feralicious: You know you're rooted when your spouse tells you they're leaving you and taking the kids and you think "perfect timing, (insert dev name here) just released a new ICS ROM".
jayochs: you know you're rooted when your phones buggy as hell lol
putney1477: You know you're rooted when, you husband, wife, significant other gets a new phone and says, don't you dare come near this phone, it works fine!
jackpot08: You know your rooted when when spend more time flashing roms than using your phone"

Yeah that was the update from like a month ago. The radio was changed with some security fixes. UVLI4 is the latest one, and i got that like a month ago.
Thank you all very much, seems I haven't received anything at all cause mine is the second one. Im such a noob, don't matter how much I've roamed around here. Lol!!!
I have a q, again, will that update mess up with like cwm or root when/if I receive it? Will I have to root again?
Also the first one went from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 with that update, but mine had 4.0.4 out of the box. They were bought with a difference of there months at most. First one I got starting last December, the second one at the end of this February but still outdated according to those numbers. But when I check for updates it states there are none. Whatever, thanks again.
I didn't notice that I had posted on the general thread instead of q&a thread, please move if needed. Sorry about that too.

You will not be able to update like that with cwm installed. Has to be on the stock recovery. Doesn't really answer your questions, just more of an FYI.

Yup it's the custom recovery that will prevent an update. When you load a custom recovery you are basically saying "I am the administrator of my phone, not T-Mobile". So it is up to you to apply updates. Also if you dont want to see the update notification anymore you can freeze the Device Management process with Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox.
Well, not long after there was an update, Lol, though not directly from tmous, at least for me.
What a bump. Hahaha

Stock random reboots

Hello everyone. My wife has a newly purchased S4 from Tmobile. We rooted it right away and installed TWRP. Everything else is stock. Even kept the bloatware hanging around... She has had some random reboots from time to time not often but like 3-4 times since she has had the phone. Google searches turn up random bits of info so I thought I'd ask the experts here at good olé XDA. I've seen some advice to factory reset but wouldn't that lose root? Also some say it could be SD card related.. There is no common theme to it happening.. I guess we could return it. I was hoping to avoid that though... Any thoughts? Thanks for any help!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes it will lose root but it's better than the phone rebooting itself alot so if it still does it then try to flash a rom and if it still does it it might be the phone then
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
Factory reset won't actually loose root. Root stuff is stored in the system while factory resetting wipes the user's data. Factory reset through TWRP would be my first recommendation

So as far as I know simply rooting doesn't cause this issue... My gut says no but this is a new phone to me...

Simply rooting does not. Touching system stuff can so yeah simply rooting wouldn't cause that.

What did she recently install? if anything. Some apps will cause random reboots. And the answers here are correct, you will not lose root doing a factory reset.

If I was you I would Odin back to stock.
Then gaining root again is only a tiny problem.
CF-Auto Root literally takes about 25 seconds to root.

You're probably getting reboots because of the method you used to root.
I was getting tons of problems with my phone because the way I previously rooted the device.
I used this way and I get absolutely no more problems.
Now, after you root with the above method, you will have to install a custom recovery (I recommend TWRP).
Do that through goomanager.
(Search goomanager in app store, install, open, hit menu, then hit "install custom recovery.)
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. She appears to be on an MDL baseband. Would it work with that? I forget exactly which thread I used to root it.. I used Odin and some zip files with TWRP and it seems like we had to do something with the bootloader... This was a few weeks ago.
And a follow up question. How would the rooting method effect the stability of the device, Causing RR added such?

Ah yes the TWRP root method.
That's the faulty method that is causing problems.
Once you odin to stock by following the steps in the thread above, everything will be taken off the phone, it will absolutely work with that baseband, yes.
Use the CF Autoroot method in the video I posted above and follow the steps i explained about goomanager.
You will love being rooted with TWRP from goomanager. You will then be able to flash custom roms which will make the phone a lot speedier and more responsive. In most cases, better battery life also.
(I am on the Darthstalker rom and it is super fast!)

No, it is NOT necessary to install TWRP, you can have the rooted device with the stock recovery on it with no problems .
