Once in a while, not all the time, when I either connect sometimes, or disconnect sometimes from the computer I get a soft reboot.
Anyone else get these once in a while?
I gather that you are talking about connecting and disconnecting from USB.
This is normal. This as to do with the recover mode.
I have the same reaction sometimes with my DROID X.
As long as you don't have any other problems, then no worries.

Yes, when connecting to the USB. Its pretty random, done it maybe 6 or so times in the last few weeks. Im pretty sure its never done it except after plugging it in to the USB, or with in 5-10 seconds of unplugging it from the USB.

Spent a little time trying to figure this out but it's so random it's hard to tell what is exactly happening.
Basically when plugging in my evo everything acts normal, I get the prompt, power light comes on, and sd card folder auto runs. I can connect and move files as I wish.
The issue is it disconnects at random times, some times during file transfers, other times it's just charging. Screen on, Screen off, etc etc, it doesn't seem to matter. The odd thing is it actually stops charging also. Doesn't matter what setting i have for the evo to connect, and I have defualted it to charge only and it does the same thing.
I've checked all my evo settings, deleted driver, let evo reconnect. I've tried it on the laptop I have and it seems to work just fine, no disconnects so far.
It has to be the pc.(Windows 7). But where to start?
Anybody have any ideas?
I think this might be a problem with your micro usb cable/port. I've gone through a few cables, all of which got their pins flattened so it couldn't hold a steady connection. I ended up melting the grooves together so the pins couldn't be flattened

you are correct sir, thanks.
I was using the front usbs, i'm assuming either the wire connecting them was not enough to handle the charge current or their is something faulty with them. I' would go with the first because everything else works on those ports besides the evo.
I used the back ports and everything is dandy.

This will sound odd... but shut down your computer and then UNPLUG it for at least 30 seconds
I bet it works when you bring it back up.

No internet yet in the new house I moved into, so I'm trying to use wired tether (wireless has always had that stupid No Internet Access with the caution triangle symbol).
Less than a week ago I tried using Easy Tether and it seemed to work fine, tried it again a day or two later and it took a little bit longer but my computer still recognized it. Next day my connection suddenly becomes extremely faulty, literally connecting and dropping about every 5-10 seconds.
Yesterday I tried connecting it and it took about 10 minutes until my computer recognized me Evo. Today I have left it in for about a half hour and received nothing, the hell is going on? I tried different USB ports, all pretty much resulting in the same thing. My cables fine because my little LED light on my phone lights up and charges, but the computer never recognizes nor does it even make the notification noise
I tried checking Device Manager just today and never before so I don't really know what my phone is supposed to show up as. Regardless I don't think it's there.
Any ideas?
Update: yesterday my evo was sort of recognized after being connected to my computer for nearly 45 minutes, my phone brought up the option of choosing between charge, disk mount, tethering, etc, but my computer gave an error message about device drivers not being installed, i tried to search device manager to uninstall the drivers but it wasnt listed, seems like a paradox..

Is it charging ok? Kinda sounds like your USB port may be borked.

I get that from time to time aswell.. and I've also noticed everytime I take my phone out of sleep mode while its charging via computer, it asks me if I want to Charge/Sync/Disk Drive/USB Tethering.. is that normal?

So Tuesday night before bed I went to check my phone (which had been on the charger for the last couple hours and so was at >95%) and noticed the volume button was not responding. I figured something buggy was going on, sometimes I need to reboot my phone every couple of days to get it to work properly (especially if it had run down into low power mode before recharging), so after unplugging it from the charger, I held down the power button, selected reboot, and clicked okay. The phone then proceeded to shut down, but not start back up.
When I tried to start it up again by holding the power button, I got no response initially. Then I was able to get it to buzz/vibrate, but the screen never came on.
I tried holding down the Vol- button and the power button together for 20 seconds to force a reset, and it vibrates a couple of times, but nothing happens.
If I plug it into a charger, I don't see any LEDs illuminate, and it just vibrates approximately every 3 seconds (not continuously, it seems to have some semi-random pattern). If I unplug it, the vibrating stops, but I still can't get it to turn on. It does not seem to make a difference if I am using a wall charger or trying to charge it off my laptop.
I have not rooted the phone or installed any custom ROMS, and have had it since I bought it on Amazon in June of 2017.
Any ideas what might be the issue? Any tips for reviving my phone?
This doesn't seem to match anything I have been able to find with some basic google searching.
Edited to add that I also tried removing the sim card and starting it up without one, but that did not appear to make a difference.
Update: I left it plugged into a wall charger for about 18 hrs and when I came back there was no change in behavior.
This many sound repetitive but lets first get the obvious out of the way so that we are sure you tried the most basic things for sure.
Is there an issue with the cable not able to charge the device? Can you try changing the cable?
Power + volume down for 30 secs / 1 minute / few minutes. This usually helps, sometimes more than 30 seconds for some reason. Try doing it while plugged in.
When you connect to the laptop what happens? Does it power on for a minute or vibrate?
Do you have adb installed on your computer? does you device get detected on your laptop?

Tried charging it with both the OEM cable as well as an amazon basics USB-c cable (both of which had been used to charge the phone successfully in the 24 hrs before it went wonky), no noticeable difference in behavior.
Held the power + volume down buttons for 180 seconds, did not boot. Repeated this with it plugged in (wall charger) and it still did not boot.
When I connect it to my laptop, I get the same behavior of vibrating as when plugged into a wall charger, but it does not boot or power on, nor does the laptop detect the phone in any fashion. I do not have adb installed on my laptop.
Anything else I can try, or is the phone a write-off at this point?
First step to solving any device issue is to somehow boot it and get in any mode possible. Since you can't do that I can't think of any other way to get it working.
I'm having the same issue, phone is not giving me any signs of life...frustrated at the moment
It's a total long shot, but try carefully cleaning out your charge port with a needle or a small pin and a little bit of alcohol. I pulled quite a bit of pocket lint out of mine and it works fine now. It didn't look like it was that dirty, but I pulled out a large ball bearing sized amount.
Other than that the only other thing I can think of is that your battery might be shot. It might have been taking enough of a charge to try and turn on, but not enough to do so.
I am running the latest Android 13 QPR beta release. Ever since I updated, I've been having a connection issue in every app. Every 2 minutes or so, my phone "loses connection", regardless of Wi-Fi or data, regardless of signal strength, any app will struggle to connect for a few seconds. My phone doesn't actually lose connection, it's weird. Most apps will just reconnect and go on about it's business after about 10-15 seconds of connection issue, but some refuse to "reconnect", so I have to close the app and reopen. After weeks of this, I decided to reformat my phone and go back to the stable android 13 release, by opting out of the beta and receiving the OTA to go back to stable. I did this with the intention of installing a custom ROM.
However, the OTA took an abnormally long 2 hours to complete. Upon completion of the update, my phone gave the the installation successful message with a restart. Upon restarting, I was greeted with the bootloader and the message "No operating system installing. Cannot boot". After a few minutes of restarting and fumbling around to no avail, eventually it booted back into my beta build. I breathed a sigh of relief. This was, however, not the end.
At this point, I thought "that was frightening. Best off just to try to install the factory image through ADB". So I go on to plug in my USB cable, and I see the notification that USB was connected. I try to click the notification to switch to file transfer mode, and then it disappears, and Windows loses connection to my phone. I'm now no longer able to get my P6P to recognize that it is plugged into a computer, and my computer refuses to detect my phone. It does however charge off the PC connection though. I've tried updating drivers, switching cords (including the factory cable, the usb-c to a cable that I usually use with this phone with success), USB 2 ports, USB 3 ports, restarted my computer, factory reset my phone, quadruple checked USB debugging was enabled, and nothing seems to work.
I'm stuck on the beta build. Cannot do anything with ADB. Cannot do anything with recovery mode, as apply update from SD just returns an error. I'm hoping I'm just missing something simple. Are there any other suggestions or ways to get around needing a computer for anything?
Thanks for reading!
This can be closed. After hours of frustration, I tried a cord that doesn't seem like it should work. It's a "universal" cord (one with a micro-USB connection and an adapter for USB-C and lightning). Never give up, you never know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I always have mtp set as default. Better to be safe than sorry
I do, as well. Connection wasn't being detected on either side. I was also getting a pop-up on my computer saying something along the lines of "the last time this device was connected, it malfunctioned. Windows cannot recognize the device." That's why I initially thought drivers, and only tried a few cords. But I got desperate and reached deeper in the bin. Thanks for the pointer, though.
