[Q] S3 Google Wallet - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ive recently installed google wallet on my s3 via the instructions on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794727
Well after all of this ive gotten wallet to accept two of my debit cards, so i assumed it worked. I went to mcdonalds this morning and attempted to pay with wallet but nothing happened. I woke up my phone, tried it. Nothing. So i entered my pin into wallet, tried again. Nothing.
Could it be that my otterbox defender is interfering with the nfc signal? I thought surely that couldnt be it because its just plastic... Or maybe there is something extra i shoulda done? i need help!
My s3 is rooted, running stock.
Like i said, i followed the instructions, so this is what i did:
1. use root explorer to change build.prop to:
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
2. then i booted into recovery mode and flashed:
SGS3-TW-US_variants-lib&nfc-fix.zip
and then:
com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.modaco.1.5-r81-v4.zip
3. Then i rebooted and signed into google wallet. I then added my cards and it all worked.
4. then i deleted the modded build.prop and renamed the build.prop.bak to build.prop
I thought i followed directions well but idk.. i might have missed something... please help!!

Looks like you did everything correct. I updated to 1.5 through the play store though and then set up google wallet afterwards, deleted build.prop, renamed, and then rebooted. Went to a local gas station and everything seemed to work fine. One thing I did notice too, was that it wouldn't work until I told the guy I was using a credit card so he had to push the button on his register after giving me the *so where's your credit card?* look.
Hope it works for you!!

Google Wallet 'Error adding card'

I was one of the first people to install Google Wallet on their Nexus. I live in London, but at the time, Wallet worked perfectly. I purchased McDonald's food on two separate occasions using the free $10 from Google. This was all on ITL14F firmware.
I then decided to reflash my firmware, so that I could cleanly update to ITL14D via OTA. After this, I tried flashing the Google Wallet zip with CWM again. Everything seemed to work fine, until I tried to re-add my Google Prepaid card. Ever since, I simply get 'error adding card' when trying to add the Google prepaid card. This happens even if I flash back to ITL14F or update to 4.0.2 using the clean APK.
There seems to be at least one other person on XDA with this problem. Is there a solution? It's possible that it's now a hardware issue, and that perhaps Google have blocked my phone's IMEI/NFC chip - I've tried adding cards with two different Google accounts, but I get the same error. But it's difficult to confirm this, since Google's customer services have always sucked so hard. Wallet still shows the cross-border $0.02 fees for the purchases, but not the actual purchases like it used to.
I just checked my Google account settings and under my Android devices I noticed that "com.android.nfc3" is backed up by Google on my Nexus. Could this be the issue?
I have a nandroid backup of my system prior to first installing Google Wallet on ITL14F. Could I extract 'com.android.nfc3' and put it into my current firmware?
Your in london. That's the issue

That's right. Heard it isn't supposed to work over there yet.

I have the same problem. I've flashed back to other ROMs and tried pre TI restore and post. Done it through with ME set to TMobile and connected through WiFi on my US IP router. I'm thinking about trying to add a Prepayed MC to see if that will work.
Might toss in my TMobile Sim at some point as well to see if that helps.
So what is the score with Google Wallet app use in the UK? I know its not supported on the nexus anywhere in the world and the app is not supported in the uk on any phone but what i really want to know is...
1) can you add funds to the prepaid card?
2) where can you use it?
3) Is there likely to be a permanent problem with the phones getting blacklisted if indeed that is whats happening with people who can no longer get the app to work.
Currently i have it running using the market enabler and apk method but have since read reports of some secure chip outside the control of the os which may be preventing people using the app. I dont want to find out that once GW is officially supported on the GN in the UK that i can no longer use it. I was also hoping to flash some roms but sounds like that might be dodgy too.
Google Walltet Problem
Well I added my google wallter applicated on my phone yesterday. I set it up, I added google prepaird card, I got the 10 dollars on it and then that evening I unlocked my phone which wiped everything of my phone. I re-installed the application and when I go to add the google prepaid card, it says error adding card.
Is there anyway to fix this?

I have the same error. I'm running on modaco rom.
same boat. wallet was working fine. updated radios which updated the bootloader to. changed roms. went to install wallet again. activation went fine. went to add google prepaid card and said error adding card, please try back later. sure hope there is a fix to this.
Same here.
Luckily it hasn't locked me out of NFC yet.
I called and talked to two people so far over at Citi. They tried to reset it on their end or something, not really sure.
I was told to reset in the app via the menu in wallet and I've done that multiple times and nothing has happened. They told me they would get in contact with the same person whom I talked to the first time and they'll contact Phil. So I'll give an update when I hear something.

this is incorrect as there are many out there with custom ROM's and Wallet working. The issue is something else.
so is there a fix for this? I can't add a Google card and i have no citi card so I am sol right now

Are you guys rooted?
I was on the phone with Citi last night and she told me that Google's servers were telling Citi that it's an insecure device so it won't work. So she told me to try and unrooting it and putting it back to stock to see if it works. Oddly I did that and it hasn't worked yet.
Not at least no NFC errors yet.

Is GWallet safe yet?

I've been fretting about this for far too long and I want my question laid to rest for once and for all.
I am running stock 4.0.2 rooted and boot loader unlocked. I want to install the google wallet apk without worrying about it messing up and giving me the secure element error. Can someone please aid a fellow ever-worrying flasher?
And yes, I have a backup to rely on.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
There's no guarantees. Essentially to be absolutely safe you need to wait until Google releases something official.
The error occurs after installing another rom with a wipe or after a factory reset. The theory is to make sure to press reset within Google Wallet so that it deletes the info off the Secure Element's memory. This is still just a theory, no guarantee..
You should watch the main thread for the most up to date info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
To add to Royal2000H:
Even if you reset Google Wallet from within the app, it will still re-initialise the secure element. There's an ADB shell command that will reset it properly.

You need to download and install the Android SDK (software development kit). The ADB (Android device bridge) drivers and software are included with it. Sorry I don't have a link handy for you, maybe in the morning if someone else hasn't posted one.

perhaps make a backup then of your working ROM. cause i believe if you wipe or switch ROMs something happens that resets the NFC hardware and you may lose ability to use it again. i'm not totally sure of the details exactly though.
I have another experience to add to this thread.
Today my phone got stuck on the boot animation so I reloaded my current 4.03 ROM. When the device booted up after flashing the gapps.zip I tried using my NFC for a tag but it wouldn't work. Additionally, trying to access the "more..." settings menu froze the settings program.
At this point I tried multiple ROMS etc and had no luck getting my NFC to work until I restored my nandroid backup from long before wallet, the first day I got the phone.
I then flashed back to my 4.03 ROM and everything works fine until the Gapps.zip adds wallet which breaks the NFC again. Removing wallet from the .zip makes everything ok but there is apparently no way for me to get wallet working again. I tried the ADB command and everything, but whenever I reinstall wallet wallet itself just opens to a black screen that is frozen and it destroys my NFC(plus the settings freeze)
Is there anything else I can try? Is my secure element bricked forever(meaning I should exchange)? Or should I hold on until google releases an official .apk?
Thanks for posing the question
I actually, using a link from here, installed Google Wallet and It is working just fine for me but my phone is stock rom and unrooted (LTE Edition), So I'll be paying close attention to this thread because I might decide to root this phone in the future.

Google Wallet not working now

I tried finding this and can't get the info I need. I had Google Wallet working without doing anything at all on my DIET ICS and last night I reset and restored with Titanium backup. I read that you aren't supposed to backup and restore Google Wallet settings after I already did it. I followed the instructions to get it to work when it isn't supported and that didn't do anything. The card indefinitely adds for hours until I get an error. Can anybody help me with this? I really liked Google Wallet and it worked fine without doing anything before on this ROM.

Yes. I was able to get it working though. Those directions did not help me for whatever reason on ICS though. I updated to ktoonsez JB and kernel. After changing APN settings for my VVM to start working again, I got around to Wallet and for some reason, it just worked. I did pretty much along the lines of what the instructions say. For those of you who have a problem, read the following (probably for Diet ICS as well)
1. Download ONLY the hacked version of wallet without the NFC fix.
2. Download Wallet from the play store
3. Flash Wallet from CWM
4. Change build.prop settings accordingly
5. Open Wallet and log in
6. Close Wallet and change back build.prop to whatever was there before (htc_jewel for Diet ICS and stock SGH-I747 for ktoonsez JB)
7. If adding a card works, then of course you're done... if it says adding for more than one minute, GO ONLINE and delete the card on your computer. I tried from the phone for hours and it didn't give me the desired results.
8. If you get an error adding the card immediately, then reset Wallet and try again. This is where it worked for me after all the above steps.
This took me many hours and a few days to figure out. I'm just glad I have it. I'm about novelty and though I wont use it all the time, it is cool to have especially on an unsupported device. I just wish I lucked out the way other people had following the normal directions to get it working. If none of these worked, then keep going. You'll get it at some point before you die. I think Google is adding support for our devices and carrier now anyway after all this crap. I requested an invite tonight for the new Wallet that is being released so hopefully I'll get to play with that. Hope this helps some people because it was pretty mysterious to get it working. Just glad to have my phone back to normal with JB!

[GUIDE] How to get a working Google Wallet

First this is a guide from the Verizon Note 2 forums, for those who don't know about it.
All Credit to WarlockLord, ogdobber, and tpmwr, and everyone else involved in this.
Visit the original thread here
Follow these steps, I have done this 3 times already and every time it works, IF you follow these steps.
I HIGHLY suggest using root explorer for this
1. Download the attached zip file, you must extract it, and place everything in their respective folders, backup your current files, rename with .bak on the end, paste the files in their respective folders from the zip. Set the correct permissions as the other files in the folder. Under the "Read" check, owner, group, others. Under "Write", check owner, and press ok.
2. Next, navigate to your build.prop in your /system and edit it to mirror the Galaxy Nexus.
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
3. Reboot
4. Open your app drawer, find the wallet app, from there, set it up, it will say Setting up this will take 5 minutes, you WILL get a force close.
5. From this point navigate to your /system/app and delete the wallet app.
6. Reboot.
7 Open the play store, download wallet, now set everything up, and add a card, once you have registered a card, it will say the app needs to reset. Reset it, and wait. Once you get back to the screen where you can select your account, close the app.
8. Navigate to your /data/app and delete the wallet.apk in there. DO NOT UN-INSTALL IT!!, This is crutial, ONLY DELETE IT
9. Now head back to your downloaded files from this post and paste the modaco R87 wallet apk back into your /system/app, and set the correct permissions, under the "Read" check, owner, group, others. Under "Write", check owner, and press ok.
10. Reboot.
11. Now open wallet again from the app drawer and set everything up. It should proceed with no errors if you did everything correct.
12. Once setup, reboot again and open the app again to make sure its still working, and your cards are still there.
13. If its still working, you can now change your build.prop back to
ro.product.model=SGH-I317 or SGH-I317M(which ever variant you have)
ro.product.name=t0lteatt
ro.product.device=t0lteatt
If you do not change your build.prop back to stock values, it wll probably break SNote
14. Save the build.prop and exit.
15. Profit.
Everything you need to know is in this post, if its not working, you didn't do something correctly, or you missed a step.

I was one of those who tested this out for warlocklord. Weird thing is, I re-did everything last night again just to see(going back to stock) without all those steps. I used the flashable zip(r87), replaced the build prop warlocklord uploaded when he first started it(attached). I load up wallet without crashing, everything loads and then I place back the original build.prop.

Yea I did the same, you already had the folder in your data with saved stuff is why it worked.
However that is the verizon build.prop - I dont suggest people using it. Won't hurt, but verizon likes to block app's from the makret.

Yeah, I finally gathered my courage and backed out. I finished everything and now my wallet seems to be working. Time to give it a go at a store!
Is this something that would be able to be cooked into a rom- a working version of Wallet, or would this procedure have to be done after every flash?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I originally used the original link that you posted. Those directions were a bit lacking so I ended up using the GS3 thread in combination with the original GN2 thread. It said to remove the APK. I was like, what APK, I am starting new, i don't ahve anything installed. So I assumed this person started off using the GS3 thread. So I went to the GS3 thread and flash modaco patched r87 and the GS3 NFC fix (I know, that was mistake). I then removed the APK. Then changed my build.prop. I installed the legit APK from play store. Then I opened it and activated my cards. It claimed that the app would restart on it's own, but it never did. I then just deleted the APK and then moved the modaco patched r87 into the system/app directory. Everything appeared to go well. I tried to make a payment and got a declined message at a 7-11. I then tried it at a CVS and but this time the NFC didn't even register. I then realized, I had the wrong NFC fix. So I flashed the NOTE2 NFC fix and was able to make my first successful wallet payment. Well everything ended up well so I'm happy. It seems that your directions are a little bit clearer than he original. Good luck to everyone else. I feel a little uncomfortable because my method was little dirty cuz I flashed the GS3 NFC fix first by accident. Once the new Cleanrom comes out with the multiwindow, I will try this process again from scratch and hopefully get a cleaner install.

When I go online I see the Galaxy Nexus showing on my Google Wallet account.
I then went to steps 9 and 10 and I returned my settings to the old Galaxy S3 ATT settings....now my Google Wallet is saying unsupported device.

Google Wallet is supposed to say unsupported device if your device is unsupported. This is unavoidable. You can still use Google Wallet just fine, though.
No, I mean I cant even open the app because it has a popup that say unsupported on your device and network, I click ok, and it kicks me out.......as if I never rooted my phone and installed.
I went back to the Galaxy Nexus build.prop and it works fine when I leave that alone. But the minute I change it back to the original build.prop.....it starts the unsupported thing again and not able to open app.

I have been working on this Google Wallet thing with no luck.......maybe I am just retarded.
I gave in an rooted my phone. I have SuperSU, ROM Toolbox Lite, Root Browser Lite, and Root Explorer installed.
Ok, so it started as unsupported.....rooted and that fixed that problem. Now, it just goes to add account. I select my email address, then it goes to an error "insufficient secure element privileges for this system image (release-keys).
I the rooted ROM. I changed the build.prop to Galaxy Nexus thing.....and I download a new APK com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.magn2o.1.5-r75-v6.apk and copied that to the system/apps folder.......still no luck......what am I doing wrong? Does Google just hate me? I just don't get this....can someone please suggest my best opinion......I have dug through all the posts and tried 100 different things and can't figure this out.
PLEASE HELP....

Samsung Galaxy S3 on ATT is not supporting Google wallet. That why we using diffrend one by changing build.prop to make wallet work.
Do not restore you nandroid after your wallet is working just restore your build.prop
In my google Wallet account my phone is showing as Nexus too but wallet is working.
I left wallet open, then restored my build.prop. everything has worked great. I dont even have the unsupported device notice
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

That is the issue...all I did was go back into build.prop and changed the values back. I don't believe I even made a nandroid. Actually I am not even really sure what a nandroid is.
