Screen distortion - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Has anyone experienced this before? I'm on 4.2. I went to turn my phone on after work but it wouldn't power on. When I got in the car to charge the phone, it keep rebooting itself and the screen flickered. The flicker is like a bad video driver flicker. I did not root or install any custom roms. The flickering is even happening at the X screen (rainbow).

I had similar issue on N7. Turned off, plug for whole night to a charger, turned on and no problem ever since. That's funny because I had it just after update when battery was low (~5-10%) I thought I it broke down
One more thing you can try: Pull the battery, leave it for 15 minutes to make sure phone doesn't hold any charge, put it in and try to turn on the phone
You'll be fine

I've had it happen several times when my second battery is in...the fake OEM from Shenzhen I got burned on Ebay for. It only happens when the charge is low though and I did have it happen before with the original battery too. Highly doubt it's anything hardware related.

[Q] Sleep of Death on GN

Has anyone else experienced this on the GN?
I've had this happen twice in the two weeks since I got it.
The device is stock.
The only common thread I can think of is that in both instances I had plugged the phone into my PC via the USB cable.
I only use 3 sources to charge, my PC at home, laptop at work, or wall charge overnight.
Meh, it is the Nexus (tame dev device). The S was way more unstable. Just pull the battery and all is well.
If you want to be cutting edge then you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Never happened to mine. You might have a buggy app that doesn't play well with ICS.
Thanks lads, I'm not massively concerned, and yes, it may well turn out to be a bad app, was just posting to find out if it was more "common".
I have of course just seen another thread in this same forum dealing with the same topic (funny that my post flagged up a bunch of other threads in unrelated forums), so this'll probably be closed down...
Think I'll go wade into that other thread now
I've had it twice since I got mine, wasn't plugged in both times so for me it's not down to charging.
mine reboots everytime i try to use the picture frame widget. i select the pic, then it reboots.
The day I got my phone, I had 2 SOD's.
This morning after I woke up, it was in a SOD and 2 minutes ago, the screen went off and I had to take the battery out.
Really strange
Someone have a solution?
I noticed this issue too, whether charging from the PC or the mains charger once the phone hit 100% on the battery it would turn off and could not be started without pulling the battery. I read somewhere that resetting the phone could cure this so, as much of a pain in the ass as that is, that is what I did. SO FAR this seems to have worked for me. I was charging the phone via the USB cable to the PC yesterday and no shut off and when I went to bed last night the phone was on charge all night and again when I woke this morning all seemed good. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone suffering this issue but it worked for me (for now) so thought I would share my experience.
Good luck !
This is so weird, hasn't happened to me since that day. I was able to reproduce the issue after reading another thread on battery saving. Someone mentioned limiting background processes to 3 in Developer Options, when I did this, my phone SODed within seconds. Twice!
Think I mentioned this elsewhere and someone said he used that option with no problems so it's clearly inconclusive. I'm just going to steer clear of that for now.

This has happened to me a number of times, usually when I was multitasking while listening to the Google Music app. It's a good thing that back cover is easy to pull off and put back on.

[Q] HELP! Phone shutting down not staying on

Hey guys, this started happening a few days ago. Basically, the phone screen will flicker a bit and then the phone will shut off. When I try to reboot it will generally do the same thing almost instantly after the ROM is finished loading. If I leave it alone for about a half hour and try again it will work for a few minutes before doing the same thing. Meanwhile, every reboot the battery meter shows it lower and lower until eventually the phone shuts off due to low battery.
However, when I plug it in, it'll say it's at about half battery life and the problem NEVER happens while plugged in.
Is this a battery problem, hardware, or software?
(It's happened on every ROM I've tried the past few days)
PLEASE HELP!

Does it happen when your in recovery as well or just when your in the rom?
Reason being, can always factory wipe, and all that.. See if it happens again.. If it does.. (Sad to say) Odin to stock. Test then. (that will eliminate phone if it works with complete stock.
Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854566 the title of that thread is almost word for word your problem. It was posted in general if you had searched before posting you wouldn't have needed to start a new thread and might have had your answer instead of waiting for someone to hand deliver it to you.

(Q) Problem charging and rebooting only when phone is powered off

I'm having an issue charging my phone when it's powered off. I searched all over the internet and XDA and it isn't the "sudden death" issue because it still boots and will charge when it's on. There was a thread in the T-Mobile section where members were having similar issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916399&nocache=1
I'm saying all that because I don't want to get bashed and accused of not searching because I did
Anyway, whenever I try to charge my phone with the battery off, I get the battery icon with the spinning thing and that's it. I never see the percentage, the LED doesn't light up, and I can't boot the phone unless I pull the battery and unplug the charger. It's not a deal breaker although I could probably get another phone from Sprint.........or maybe even a new battery. Just trying to see if others are having the issue and if there's a fix. Thanks.
A lot of people can't turn the phone on while it is charging. All they get is a green battery, but if you unplug it you can turn it on. I have this problem too.
There was a thread about two weeks ago about it. The title of the thread had nothing to do with it so it's understandable that you can't find it.
Edit:I found the thread.

Thanks Chase. It's just weird because I used to not have this problem. Oh well

[Q] Strange Battery behavior (not a battery life thread)

Recently, I dropped my Galaxy Nexus (which is running stock with the latest GB update) from the couch.
The phone seemed fine except everything related to the battery has gone nuts.
I've rebooted, drained and fully charged the phone, etc, etc.
I have not reset to factory however.
Here's what I'm seeing:
1. When I connect the charger to it, it sometimes wont charge. Some other times, it charges just fine. I've tried all chargers.
2. When the battery falls below 15%, it constantly keeps flashing the low battery reminder.
3. The battery history screen wont update even if I refresh it. It just shows like I have just disconnected the phone from the charger a few seconds ago.
I did read about the charging pin getting slightly bent, I did nudge that up slightly--and that seems to have helped with issue #1...but 2 and 3 still remain.
Again, stock, never been rooted.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
K
Does your computer recognize it as a phone/device/anything?
You may have damaged the micro USB port on your phone when you dropped it. Loose connection = finicky charging. :crying:
Yes, it recognizes it fine.
Also, since I nudged up the small pin inside, charging it has been a lot better...it now charges almost every time.
However, the battery history status is still messed up.
Every time I disconnect the phone from the charger, the stats never refresh correctly.
It will show me the correct screen stats the first time...and then never refresh regardless of how long ago the phone was disconnected.
That seems like a software issue?
May have already tried this, but since it isn't stated anywhere I'll ask - have you removed the battery and SIM card, then reseated everything properly and restarted? Amazing what these small drops can jar loose and really throw things off.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Yes, I did remove everything, restart a few times.
Just as I type this...I tried another suggestion that I read elsewhere----switching off the phone, fully charging it, removing the battery, putting it back in---and repeating this process over.
Now--it seems to refresh each time I hit the refresh icon.
I'll monitor it till it completely discharges and see what it does.

SM-P605 cannot charge

Greetings, I have a bit of an issue with my tablet and it's most likely a hardware one.
About two days ago I had my tablet completely discharged and I put it on the charger. I saw the battery and lightning screen and left it for about a day.
Then yesterday I wanted to watch a movie on it and so I reached for it and all it had was a black screen. I thought that it must have charged up completely, so I pulled it out of the charger and started it up.
It then went as far as the Samsung logo and 20-30 seconds afterwards it shut down. I thought that maybe my ROM became faulty or smth and tried to boot into TWRP. Same thing.
Booting into the Bootloader worked but at one point the screen started rapidly changing its brightness. And it again turned off after a couple of seconds.
I tried this several times, connecting it to the wall charger or my laptop but every time it turned on for only a couple of seconds and now it has completely died off. No matter with which cable, charger or power source I try to charge it, it doesn't light up at all. Power button and combinations with volume buttons don't do anything.
A bit of info about the device: It's about 2 years old running the latest LineageOS. Roughly 1 year ago it suffered a drop and the screen got cracked. I ended up buying a spare screen from China and gave it to a hardware specialist to install it. (Samsung doesn't really have representatives near me, so that was the easiest option) Ever since then the speakers have always been a lot quieter and worse-quality but everything else worked fine.
I believe that somehow the charging circuit fried itself and now the battery has died off. Is that even possible? I haven't charged it with any unknown wall chargers or anything that could fry it. Can someone please help me fix this problem since I have no idea where to start?
Thanks in advance...
You might want take a look to this topic of mine. Not exactly the same problem but the resolution might apply to yours as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, but your tablet can at least boot. Mine can't, which is the issue and it doesn't charge at all when off.
That's why I pointed you to open it and resettle all the cables, as I did. The problem is different but the solution might be the same...
