Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how? I have Bell GS3.
You should be able to.
First, enable NFC in setting for two phone, then put the back-to-back, and tap whatever file you want to transfer.
But in my experience, I transfer files between my S2 and S3, it is really really slow. Text file or link is super fast, but picture or anything heavy is painfully slow.
I've tried that with a gs3 on AOKP and a stock gs3 but it keeps trying to open the google play store. The files don't seem to want to transfer. Is it my settings or am I doing something wrong? Is it cause of Samsung proprietary software?

Okay, one other curious question...On CM10 7/29 build...is anyone getting Android File Transfer to work? Yes, I'm on a Mac, but it was working fine before, granted I had to call it a camera instead of MTP, but it worked just fine. Now that I got a 32GB SD, I'm wanting to transfer everything over, but now when I plug it in, I get nothing. Any ideas?
So, I've flashed all the roms on my SD card...CM9, CM10, Ultimatum, AOKP, now I'm on Paranoid Android(liking this one best because it's a mix of CM10 with more stuff working so far..) but anyway. I noticed on all of the JB-based roms, Android File Transfer no longer works. This wouldn't be an issue because I could flash Ultimatum, which is ICS-based, right? Still doesn't work. I've read around and some people say Samsung updated something that broke AFT for mac...but I'm just not sure. I just got a new 32GB SD, so I want to move the stuff from my 8GB to this one...but using wireless solutions will take hours on end...and I'm not even sure which one of these works the best. Any ideas?
I believe the file transfer on android does not like to work with cm10 on this phone and its not an issue that seems too high on the devs list because of the few amount of mac users. Really sucks but meh, honestly if i want to transfer stuff i boot up windows through bootcamp and do my thing
My suggestion is, flash a stock based rom and just move the majority of the stuff using mac and then for smaller/more periodic stuff after that you could just use a wireless transfer thing. Because for me, after my initial sync of all my music i usually only sync photos or a few songs at a time so wireless syncing wouldn't be too big of an issue.
Indeed, I found a workaround to use CyberDuck to transfer stuff...of course, my first big transfer is going to take hours, which sucks---I wish they would look at this issue...even if Mac users are the minority, that's a pretty big issue-Normally I wouldn't have issue with either dual boot or Parallels, but I'm broke at the moment so I'm running a G5 iMac. While it runs, you can imagine how slow it can get, since this is pre-aluminum models... I tried flashing a stock-based rom (Ultimatum) and it still didn't work. I've heard that a Samsung minor update might have broken it, but I didn't get any OTA updates. I'm just glad CyberDuck/SSHDroid let it work just like my jailbroken iPhone works with CyberDuck the same way, so I'm familiar with it. I guess I'll need to go back around the forums I was searching for answers on and post a tutorial on using CyberDuck with the S3.
Hi this has been frustrating me forever and I can not for the life of me figure out what the problem is. I am runing AOKP maguro jb Build 4, Android version 4.1.1 with Franco Kernel Milestone 5. I used to be able to take photos from my phone and drag them to the desktop or an external drive I use. I have tried with debugging of and on and in MCP or Camera mode and everytime I take a file from the phones folder and drag it to the desktop or another folder, windows explorer stops working and restarts. I have no Idea what I have done to cause this it never used to.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You could use something like AirDroid for WiFi transfers or Dropbox
Whoops, touch screens and thanks buttons, have a free one OP. Dropbox would work, so would photobucket or Google+. Any of the above will sync pics in the background when you take them too, if you wish. You don't by chance have fast charge on do you?
This has been plaguing me for way too long! I couldn't get my S3 to connect with my Mac. I thought the first ICS update did something to keep ATF from reading my phone. I finally found a solution for getting Android File Transfer to work on my iMac with my Galaxy S3 even after the Jelly Bean update and on a custom ROM. I'm currently running Wicked JBv1, but I'm pretty sure this will work even if you're on stock or with any custom ROM. I found this solution in the Tmobile forums and I give the credit to user dk123 for posting it. I'm running OSX Lion by the way.
First make sure you remove the Kies software from your computer. I used appZapper.
Then I removed ssuddrv.kext from System/Library/Extensions. I made a copy of the file first and saved it in my documents just in case something goes wrong.
Before reconnecting my phone i made sure to check USB Debugging and when I reconnected it AFT found my phone instantly.
I don't know how helpful this may be, but I've been wondering for months why ATF wasn't working. It's still not the most user friendly way to connect your S3 to your Mac, but at least I can move music files over fairly easily without having to use the crappy Kies Software. I hope this helps even just one person.

Kies Air is the s&%$.
Use AirDroid app. All you need is your computer and your phone on the same Wifi network and a browser.

S-beamed from my GSIII via xda premium
That is a pretty good program, but my music library is a little on the large side. I like the quick use of AFT for moving ROM downloads or moving pictures off my phone. Small stuff. Kies is just way too slow and klanky on my machine.

From finder, click on your hard disk, then find click on system folder, then library folder then extensions folder. Scroll down to find the file and drag a copy to your desktop before deleting it.

:laugh::laugh:
 I nearly cried/ That's brilliant. We were in a parallel universe, you and I with the android/mac connectivity and yes Kies really isn't geared for Mac users. ATF is clunky but certainly productive, And it would seem, the only way around the problem since Apple have fallen out with, well, most every other competitor, Especially Samsung given their legal arguments the last couple of years. Amyway, I'm waffling. Just wanted say thanks for the detective work and the solution.
Ok, so I recently got an S3 and I've been searching everywhere for a definitive answer. How do you enable Mass Storage on the S3? I've tried downloading the S3 UMS apk file, didn't work, I've tried using Terminal Emulator to enable it that way, didn't work. I am currently rooted running an AOKP ROM. For the love of Pete and his magic dragon, can someone please tell me how to enable this? It's annoying having my phone set as a Media Device. I'm not able to organize my music and such the way I like and getting the stupid "error" message that I can transfer my music, but it may not play properly is beyond annoying. Thanks all.
I share your pain. This was so simple on my Captivate years ago and after having the S3 for several months I still cannot find a good way properly sync my music and playlists. It is really ridiculous. Somebody out there must have a fix or a workaround that works or know of a kernel that supports it, hopefully they will post in this thread because it really pisses me off.
The Galaxy S3 doesn't support UMS, only MTP. In fact, starting when google released ICS/HC, UMS was on its way out in favor of MTP storage. I feel your pain...I would rather have UMS but it's google's choice to ditch mass storage and use MTP.
After further searching, still nothing. This is dumb. Obviously, the masses want the UMS back, they can push an update or something out to enable it. If nothing else, we should at least be given the option of MTP or UMS. I mean, it's Android. Android is know for it's options. Why are we being limited now?
I have been having some trouble with transferring settings and data from myGalaxy S7 to this V+5g. The tmobile store said they'd do it for me, probably to get me to take the phone?
Then, they couldn't do it. They installed Samsung Switch and then discovered that they couldn't use it! So they tried transferring something via BT. Then they discovered that nothing would transfer, beyond one simple Google identity, which I could have set up by simply entering my ID and password. So they switched to plan B: Ignore me when I came in to the store to complain that I cant actually use this phone!
So they left me to complain by phone, where they could ignore me ad infinitum! For this reason, when I found out that I was locked into a 2 year contract with this phone I cant use, I put a complaint in to the FCC.
MEANWHILE I tried to install some programs individually. Firstly Doubletwist. Then I discovered some idiosyncrasies of this phone. I need to get 60GB of music onto this phone. But the music wont go onto the phone. Firstly, if I can get the phone seen by my MacBookPro (by enabling debugging, enabling File Transfer by USB and by starting doubletwist on the phone and computer), the music will transfer, excruciatingly slowly! And it does seem to go onto my 128GB SD card. But it does stop every two GB or so. Then, it simply wont restart. Nothing I can do will get the Revvl seen again by DT on the MBP.
Does anyone think that t his inability to get this phone to transfer data or files might be something actually wrong with the phone? I discovered that tmobile were thrilled to get rid of this phone (10 minutes before the Revvl VI 5G came out?) but I am not sure yet that a Revvl VI 5g would be any more compatible with my Samsung Galaxy S7 than this model V 5g? So I am wondering if this problem which I have had and which the Tmobile store also had is the same problem with the phone itself? Especially where the store were so insistent that they didnt want to help me. After which TMobile were careful to tell me that they couldn't take the phone back because I had got it from a store!
Since closed down!
Or has anyone else had these problems?
