Hey All,
Just wondering if anyone has succesfully traded an EVO LTE for a Galaxy SIII in store. Im plagued by LTE drops and the signal on the Evo not working properly. If you were able to convince the Sprint Corporate stores to swap out your phone, please drop some advice. Thanks!
There's another thread about this, all u need to do is replicate the lte problem for the rep and they will exchange it for you.

Not sure what string of words to search for, can you drop a link? Ive seen people ask whether or not they should do it, not really with stories on how to do it though.
Buried towards the end of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001667 are a few posts by ppl who got to switch due to the lte connectivity issues. They just went in to corporate store rep checked lte connection against other devices and swapped em for sgs3 no question asked

This pains me to write this, but I have to give up on Verizon.
I've been experiencing very bad reception at my home, including voice and data.
I've had 4 new incredibles to check it wasn't hardware (it's not software) related, and the finality was a verizon trouble ticket opened, to be closed with the answer that my area was a known trouble area. They have yet to invest in new or upgraded towers, and the tech guy told me that as such, he cannot guarantee the level of reception that I am supposed to get.
As such, he has placed a note on my account that I can port my number with zero cancellation charge.
This is Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, believe it or not. I was shocked as well.
So, my question to all you people out there is this. Seeing as though I am probably going to jump to Sprint or T-Mobile (I know Tmobile gets good reception, as my work phone is perfect), I was wondering if anyone had any experience or suggestions on the latest and greatest from either carrier. I'm guessing it's going to the Evo or Nexus S for Sprint, or G2X from TMobile...
Jeebuz. Just played with sensation at tmobile store. Sweet.

I've heard this from 2 different CS reps at two differnet places but, I can't find anything specific on the net. Has anyone else heard the rumor that Sprint and Verizon might partner up and share LTE towers/service?
I'm thinking about going to ATT since my Sprint (No Verizon in my area yet either) data is terrible in my area but, if there was a chance this might happen, I might stay with Sprint.
habe
Doubtful, those CS reps don't know anything that hasn't been announced. If one of them told me it was Friday I'd verify it on my calendar.
that's funny, when i talked to sprint on the phone i threw that same question at them and they said " oh no no, we will run our own system, should be complete by end 2013"
didn't they say something like that about the wimax BS??

Yes. Sprint doesn't know wtf is going on. I do know that they will not use Verizon's towers due to the fact that Verizon wouldn't let anymore ppl than they have to have unlimited data on their network. Especially since a lot of grandfathered ppl are getting the finger now too

I highly doubt it, but there might be a chance of sprint using Verizon 4g towers when roaming. thats just a guess though.

As of right now, that won't happen. Verizon's LTE is run on different frequencies than sprint's phones can handle.
There would have to be something big in it for Verizon .

I was actually on the phone with one of the M.I.T. graduates a.k.a. Sprint reps and when I pressed the issue that my brand-new, sexy-looking Galaxy Nexus was slow as hell and couldn't get ANY 4G even though I was told I would they said that they are using Verizon's towers/LTE until the Sprint network is "up & running totally"...funny I still have no 4g/LTE and only 3G and WiFi...then again most reps, regardless of where they work, are never in-the-know...that's the reason they shuffle you around to "someone who is better suited to answer that question" when you ask a simple question...they pass the buck to the next guy/girl who in turn does the same...no wonder why it takes for ever to speak with someone when you call [those people]....
They better not use Verizon's LTE. I left sprint because the crapple losers all came over and clogged up the network worse than it already was. I know they won't though

hello all wow thats all I can say. all these readings show no voice and data call over sprints cdma network on any phone. so I did some research call sprint yes I know crazy right they said yes on 4g, then I went into a sprint store again crazy right how come sprint does not seem to really know anything about their phones crazy right! anyway the store said no. So I tested it I made sure I was on spring 4g network. my wifi off I placed a call told the person to keep talking, I pressed on my internet icon on my phone and guess what it worked a voice and data call over the sprint network while on 4g. my question is why is this not toted by sprint like it is by att? and why does sprint techs do not have a strong definitive answer I mean come on this is a easy test! anyway just wanted to spread the word and see if others have same result. pulling my hair out grrrrrrr and guess what I'm bald!
test it out folks remember turn of wifi! make sure u r getting 4g.

That's nice.
There should be no Sprint users perusing this forum though, as this forum is for the GT-I9100, which is a GSM phone that doesn't even work on Sprint's network.
Maybe you want to trumpet this news in the Epic 4G Touch forum?
EDIT: ah, it finally got moved to the right forum.
Thanks for the info but honestly this is quite old news and has been known since the Evo days. Use of Wimax is so limited is the main reason I can see why anyone not knowing but rest assure this is old news. Although as an fyi - the new Galaxy SIII handles voice and data separately over 3g so now you can use data and voice on 3g as well with that phone
In June I "upgraded" my phone to the HTC EVO LTE, with the understanding that Sprint would be turning on the service in the L.A. area sometime in September.
If you live in this area, you know it was delayed a few times, but you can now pick it up is certain areas.
However, it has recently been discovered that the EVO LTE has problems both connecting to, and staying connected to, LTE. It's ironic, considering it has LTE in its name.
I'm not here looking for advice on getting LTE working on this phone. The EVO LTE forum has plenty of threads devoted to that. But several people have started to lose patience and have been considering switching to the III. Both the III and the new iPhone have been reported to connect to LTE on Sprint network in areas that the EVO cannot.
So I thought I'd ask people who actually own and use the S III, and who are in areas where Sprint has LTE working, what you're experience is?
It will cost plenty to switch, and I'd like to avoid jumping from the frying pan into the fire if possible!

I don't have LTE but do have the S3 and it is an amazing device from what I have read it has no problems connecting and staying on 4g I believe you will be way happier with the S3

I made the switch from evo lte to the gs3. I have had it just over a week now and I can say that gs3 connects to lte much faster and stays connected. It picks up lte in areas where the evo does not. I even have the evo lte active on another line and I have been comparing the lte connection side by side for the past week.

I've never had an EVO, but I really enjoy my SGSIII. I live in a LTE area and my phone is constantly connecting to LTE. I have no complaints whatsoever. On the other hand, my cousin has the EVO LTE and is not happy with it at all. I don't know how often the phone connects to LTE, but he has mentioned more than once that he is not happy with it. We are in the same area.
The one time I used lte it connected fine and stayed connected.
My sister has an Evo 4G LTE, and more often than not, she's on 3G when my S3 is on LTE 2 feet away. She's dying to switch to the S3.
I am in Houston with sg3 and lte is very good around town, especially inside my house. So good that rarely use my 12mbps wifi anymore.
Thanks everyone.
So I feel like I got ripped off by Sprint now. Selling me a phone called "LTE" that can't really connect to LTE, but just enough to keep them out of court.
I will try to be patient (as if waiting since June isn't patient) and wait till after New Years and go to EBay. Hopefully, the SIII will go down a bit since the Christmas shoppers will be gone.

Sprint didn't make the phone, HTC did. Your complaint is with the mamanufacturer not the carrier.

No, Sprint sold the phone. Sprint named the phone. Sprint said, "Here is our newest phone". "It's made to run on our new LTE 4G network".
Hell, Sprint even directed HTC to make changes to the phone to differentiate it from the One X.
Sprint is the one holding my $350 hostage if I'm not happy and decide to leave. Sprint is the one who won't let me switch phones without paying a hefty price.
Now, you can split hairs and say "well, technically the phone can connect to LTE", but connecting once or twice a day for 30 seconds isn't usable.
If they're not willing to let EVO LTE owners exchange phones for at least a refurbished S III, that tells me they don't stand behind their service.
Any way you paint it, I'm unlikely to renew with them next time. So, if my point of view is correct, Sprint loses. If it's wrong, Sprint loses.

You don't quite get it. Sprint didn't make the hardware that is causing the issue HTC chose the lte radio to use, the radio is what's failing. Therefore your complaint lies with HTC due to manufacturer defects. If u buy a defective Xbox from Walmart its not walmarts fault Microsoft shipped them a defective product and you have to go thru the manufacturer warranty to collect on defects. You legally have no leg to stand on if u went to court against sprint, your case wouldn't even be heard and you'd be told to file against the manufacturer not the retailer/carrier. This is common knowledge and listed on every warranty and return policy in the country.
Sent from my SPH-L710
If I bought a defective Xbox at Walmart, it's highly likely Walmart would refund my money, whether they were legally obligated to or not. I could then buy a PS3 from them.
Also, they would not charge me $350 if I decided to leave and buy a PS3 at Sears.
Sprint will not be getting my return business. Period. I think they are the one's who don't get it, and that's reflected in their bottom line.
Please take all LTE discussions to the sticky thread.
Thanks

has anyone in the nyc/staten island area been experiencing international roaming on the GN2? at first i thought it was a tower issue, but my next door neighbor just got one and its roaming, and i called my brother over and so is his, but my other brothers GSIII wasnt, so i esn swapped between my SI, SII, SIII and OG Evo no roaming at all, i was thinking perhaps this is an issue due to that last update we received ? nothing else come to mind why this is happening
can a mod move this to Q&A just a habbit to come directly to this section
Its been roaming a lot in brooklyn too. Was in long island today and it was losing signal then roaming.

I've experienced that problem, but for some reason it seems to happen even more when I'm stepping into the subway. Maybe someone else has experienced the same?

this is a repost. it was already discussed in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973737, can some one merge them ?
I'm in the Staten Island area. I think I've seen international roaming a couple of times. Not much. But I did notice on the South Ferry side of Manhattan there is no signal at all.
its a note 2 issue i think now my neighbors have 2 note 2s and all roaming, everyone in my house besides me on GSIIIs no roaming, swaped between my S1 & S2 no roaming
got a new replacement Note2 yesterday esn swapped in, instant roaming double checked by swapping in the rest of my galaxy series nothing, its just a note 2 issue i assume , now how long till its fixed is the question
When you guys see this international roaming, flip over to your dialer and ##DEBUG# then type in SPRINT in the numbers (777468) I believe. Go to the 1X screens, don't remember which one that shows the SID and NID combination. Post a screenshot here or the numbers. I curious to see why the phone thinks it is roaming internationally.
will do
