Android 4.2 question - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Just wondering I know for a fact that cm10 is filled with custom code that has been played on top of googles os my question is is there that much of a difference between 4.1 and 4.2 that the same custom code can't be injected or later on top of the 4.2 is to give us a fully functional ROM. I do know and understand that this is no easy task but I'm just wondering if its possible or will the is have to be done from the ground up

Custom rom off LG ICS

Is it possible to create a custom rom based off of LG's ICS. I have tried a few things but I end up with security error everytime I try to edit the rom. The reason I ask is because the LG rom seem much more fluid and smooth than CM9. One of the reasons I want to do this is to get rid of the annoying scrolling carrier logo on the notification bar. Anyone know how to do this?
Dave,
Maybe you should just wait for the real release that will come in a couple of week every one will do rom from that (for sure I will)

Sounds good. What are you planning to do to the rom when you get the full ics release?
Need to make full deoxide and root ..I'm waiting too

Are you planning to make it more "stock" ics?

Isn't that what CM9 is for?
I suppose so, Its just that CM9 is sluggish compared to the LG ics.

Kernels for touchwiz anyone?

Anyone going to make a kernel for touchwiz. That's 2.1?

Eventually...yes, someone will. Is anyone currently? Who knows? Most developers keep to themselves until right before they're ready to release.
With Jelly Bean about to be released to our phones soon, some developers may be wanting to wait until then to begin working on a kernel because they don't want to create a kernel for a version that may become outdated very soon.
I've also been curious as to why there hasn't been any kernel development.
I asked this same question in q & a and the response i got was there are no tw kernel devs. So this phone is still gaining more attention so i think we should have some kernel devs soon.
Will actually there is a 1.89ghz called kettle corn but it's a bit outdated

I have noticed this with all my samsung phones. Kernels take a long time to perfect, and the only way to do that is to stick with one build, and just keep tweaking it. The problem is that Sprint and Samsung seem to constantly keep updating, and with every new build comes a new kernel. In order to update the kernel you have to wait for the source to be released, but by the time the source is released there is a new build coming out and everybody wants the new build. So if someone were to compile a kernel for touchwiz, but next week we get a leak for sprint jellybean rom or something, everybody would want that....so why waist the time trying to build a kernel when it will be outdated as soon as its released?

Need some advice

Long story short I've cone from a history of using the galaxy s phones so I have some experience with rooting and using adb and such. I have mostly stayed stock and unrooted for the reason that I use my phone daily for important phone calls, emails, apps and text messages. Basically I use the crap out of my phone and what I don't want is to root and flash a ROM to be continuously flashing and wiping my important data ever time or losing pictures. I have been following the aokp and pa threads and would like to know, in your honest opinions, what ROM will allow me the luxury of being bug less as or better than stock where I don't have to do any extra coding to get it working or be missing features or deal with broken functions? I am also curious about tablet mode as why I mentioned aokp and pa. Be honest about the bugs and don't just post a one line like " aokp ftw" as it doesn't help me. Also don't post " well just flash them all" I have too much going on and don't want to spend all day flashing ROM after ROM. Thanks.

In my experience of flashing ROMs I have learned that there is no such thing as a "Bugless ROM". Since Jellybean is still new, there are no stable Roms. But I could say that there are Roms out there that updates frequently in case they add new features or fix bugs. I have used ParanoidAndroid for it's Tablet mode which isn't too bad. Viewing emails from Gmail wasn't bad. It seemed easier viewing the emails because it shows different categories, like the "Trash, Spam. Sent, Draft, Important" on the right side. I didn't really like Tablet and Phablet mode while viewing the PlayStore, reason is because when looking for apps to download, it doesn't show the full Star ratings (meaning you will see 1 or two stars rating, and to see the full stars you would have to click on the actual app to see the ratings.).
I had a great experience with ParanoidAndroid but you have to keep in mind that there isn't a bugless rom and that you need to frequently update. If your still deciding, just check for the features that you like most.
For maximum stability, stay stock. Rooting won't affect stability.
If you want the extra features of a custom rom combined with good enough stability for daily use, flash stable / milestone releases.

What I'm doing personally, is staying stock OTA rooted, until CM10 reaches stable build, then flashing CM10 stable, and being done with flashing.

stock..but currently i am using codenameandroid.lots of customization with absolutely no problem.
No bugs for me on BAMF.

If I go the ROOT-STOCK route, will I still be able to get OTA updates from google? Or will I have to unROOT?
you know what i would suggest? you now have source to your os, for your device!
if you know how (it's not difficult to learn how to use the proper tools, like fastboot), you can "cherry-pick" from anyone (well, almost) and roll your own rom, your own flavour of android in a very near future. even your own tweaked stock kernel.
you can tweak what you want, when you want. you can even make very own ota server, and roll out to your device, only! (think i read it on groups/android-building or in some android documentation)
remember, and this for the kangers that want to steal other people's work: dont!
always give proper and due credit to all the coders out there.

Codename Android so far bugless and has better features than stock.
Thanks guys for the replies and not flaming me or others. I think I'll try stock and play and around with some minimal mods. I mean with a nandroid I can try s couple and revert back if I don't like them.

Tw or aosp?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
That has got to be one of the most poorly written questions I've ever seen. With a mastery of English like that (did you mean "easiest" when you said "easys"???), how on earth do you hold a job that allows you to afford a smartphone? Holy crap. That seriously makes me sick. What's wrong with our schools...
And it's not even a real question... 'best' isn't an "at everything" thing, or there would only be one ROM, because the rest would all be 'worse'. You need a specific question if you are looking for any kind of meaningful answer.
I'm sad to say I'm interested in the answers to this topic, which is why I read it myself... let me try wording it better so that you don't simply get pummeled by people making fun of you:
Of the Jellybean ROMs out there:
What's the most stable ROM?
What's the ROM closest to stock Google Jellybean?
What's the most built-out, tweak-able Jellybean ROM (including features not in stock Google JB), and how does it compare in stability to the most stable ROM?
How do the new Sprint/Samsung leaks compare to these?
My bad I didnt proof read everything I sent it out but you say whatever you want not going to hut my feeling any I got other thing to do besides pick ob people instead of trying to help someone isnt that what this site is for to help people and pick on people and im running tw jb now but either doesnt matter to me just looking for a better rom

Simply stunning. Man.
I did help - I reworded your question into something that people can respond to with meaningful help for you (and me):

Note the Sprint leaks are Touchwiz - should indicate a JB OTA update coming soon if you didn't want to install one custom. The latest ROMS are pretty clean - cleaner than the ICS final release leak for the Epic 4G Touch was, so that may be forthcoming soon.

4.2 in aosp

http://phandroid.com/2012/11/13/android-4-2-jelly-bean-aosp/
I'm curious how the new toggles in 4.2 will be handled in cm10 and aokp after the source code has been added to each rom.
私は神の罰です。
Android 4.2 is getting the OTA treatment from the powers that be. We eagerly await the source to hit the AOSP repos. When it does, we will begin the task of defining what is new, what has changed, and what CM features should stay (or go). We already anticipate removing the CM enhancements to the Clock app (Google made their own), and enhancing the Quick Settings (most likely not porting over the Notification Power Widgets). However, these assessments are preliminary, and won't be finalized until MR1, or whatever tag is used, has the source to go with it.
Edit: Oh and yes, before its asked, 4.2 will be CM 10.1 (not CM11).
just wait and see

Like the person above me said, they'll get rid of a lot of stuff that is now useless since it's baked into Android. Obviously something built by the Android team and baked into Android has lees possibility of crashing or making issues in the future than if it was put on top of Android like we're doing right now for notification power widgets.
Regardless of how it goes, I can't wait for Sbrissen to release 4.2 AOSP, and then development will take off from there.
*crosses fingers*

Well i think that 4.2 has quick settings in the pulldown, lockscreen widgets built in, and not really sure what else, something about group MMS in the messaging app. Go check out the gNex Dev forums and the stock 4.2 ROMs.
I'm not suggesting you flash them, but you can still read about the features.

I hear you, But...
I think that since we have all seen 90% of what JB can do on our phones on these custom roms, the upgrades dont seem like much to us. There is a much larger audience out there than us and that is who they are trying to WOW. They just use us to help figure out what mistakes they are making
Also system wide font tweaks...
