Notification Light - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Some features I loved on my Nokia C7 were the clock on the screen when it was locked and the notification light.
Here is an example on a N8 to illustrate:
Apparently as the 710 is using a LCD screen, the screensaver feature would not be possible or at least, would drain too much battery. However, on the Lumia 800, it might work as it's an amoled screen.
And another thing is that this notification light! If the led behind the windows' buttons could blink, it would be perfect for me!
These two features on Symbian were very useful , without unlocking your phone, you were able to see the time and if you got a text!
Someone can tell me if it is possible, because i can understand that there is many stuff involved to make it working, but when i see dev like Jaxbot making great stuff, i hope it's possible..! At least the blinking bar..
Thx

would be really nice! i dont understand why Nokia haven't done it by their own, also that you just can unlock phone with unlock/power button :/ Microsoft should Change that

Yeah! Indeed, it would be also great. Maybe if you use the TouchWake homebrew to use the home button (handier for me than the power button on the top) and if a dev can make a behaviour to directly unlock the screen.
For example, you double-press on the home button and it directly unlock the screen without having to slide up!
I guess it is possible as a long press on camera button directly unlock the screen.. Nice idea facekill1337

Hi,
Is there a developer or someone that could tell me if this idea is possible with some work or totally unrealizable (maybe devs can't control the led) ?
Thx

I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10491327#post10491327
and apparently there is a way to disable the lockscreen. I guess it is doing the same behaviour you are describing..
Unfortunately, when i tried to change the value, it says "impossible to change the value"...

I'm not sure if the Windows logo could blink on its own, it seems like the three capacitive buttons light altogether, but they can light up on their own without making the screen light up as well. This also depends on the drivers or hardware. I had an HTC Trophy and a Lumia 800, and the way they light up from sleep is gradual, like a fading effect, whereas on the Titan or Focus, the lighting is sudden. But most (or I think all) 1st gen HTC have a LED notification light for battery status and missed calls only, and it seems that its also possible for the other apps to control the LED behaviour.

Of course, when I was saying "blink", I was thinking to the whole windows bar (back, home and search) as well

And yes, my question was: there is a way to control the lighting of the windows bar? If there was some work done on the drivers, etc ?
Thanks for your input NeuroXT

Light Sensor request for HTC Blackstone / Touch HD

I am looking for a light sensor solution like on the IPhone. If u get a call and you put the phone at your ear, the phone screen gets dark, thats normal,
but what is, if I want to turn on speaker or something during a call? I allways have to press the ON/OFF button.
At the Iphone, they got a better solution for that.
Can anayone manage a little plugin cab or does anyone know a registry solution?
you need Touch_InCall_Screen_Tweak, It can do what you want but it is not using the light sensor.
It uses the G-Sensor, when the device is not in vertical position (closed to your ear), phone will wake up automatically and sleeps again when you take it close to your ear to speak (vertical position).
thank u for your reply, but I want a light sensor app.
Am not sure
but there isnt a light sensor in the blackstone to start with

i think you'r wrong m8 ... From what i know there is a light sensor in blackstone
the blackstone has a light sensor next to the ear speaker. It is oossibble to turn it on. but wehen you remove it from your ear, the light does not turn back on

Pocket Shield is not freeware and is definetly not what I want.
I just look for a solution auto-lock un-lock when you remove or taken to the ear.
Microsoft developers will read this thread and bring it into new builds.
Ok, try this one. It seems to be available for free or at least the minimum version ,the full version is around the 7 $. You can measure the Brightness at your workplace, in rooms, use it for Photography or to set up aquariums and terrariums. Works fine although I use it just like for fun maybe is useful for your work.

I dont want a Luxmeter, if I want a Luxmeter than I take mToolbox.
I tried Pocket Shield and after uninstalling this program, the light sensor does not work anymore.
Try TICST
really, just try it.

This is what you want to adequately switch the screen off as it comes to your ear and then on again as it comes away from your ear.
I've been using it on a an HD since March/April and it works flawlessly. It even has intelligent options to handle bluetooth calls and control of the speakerphone.
hmmm sounds good but what happens if you get a call at night and there's no light?
Need a combination of light sensor and g-sensor I think.
Yes it has it - please just try it before finding problems with it. It will work for you!!!

Yes this is one of the biggest problems with lightsensor...
Tested the detection range with mToolbox and Lumos - and it shows "0" very early even if there's a bit light around - so the light sensor in-call-detection wont work very good.
How is it solved at iPhone?
BTW:
[APP]Touch InCall Screen Tweak v1.2.0 - Updated 3 Sep 09 - Battery Drain Fix
So it doesn't use the light sensor then?
From v1.0.6 it DOES use the light sense to detect if it is against your ear. This is really a double check to back up the orientation. It doesn't use it to determine if it's away from your ear because the sensor doesn't seem to work when the screen is off, so it's of no use for switching the screen back on.
so - what else you want?
The iPhone doesn't use the light sensor to toggle screen, it uses proximity sensor - it turns off the screen when something approaches the area near the speaker and turns it back on when there's nothing near it.
Light sensor can't work reliably because you can get a call in a dark room.
TICST is a workaround using both the light sensor and the g-sensor, it's rather good but not perfect.
A perfect solution requires hardware that's missing in Touch HD. HTC HD2 will have the proximity sensor so screen toggling will be working there, hopefully.

Ear touches the screen in a call

Hey, everytime I am in a call, my ear taps the taskbar and it opens the notification window which covers my call screen. I have googled and searched this forum with no success.
Apart from TouchLockPro, was just curious as to if there is anything that addresses this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Do you have something (case?) blocking the proximity sensor? The screen should be turning off as soon as you put the phone to your ear.
Yes I do. I've just tested it out, that seems to be the problem. So is there any tweak to prevent this?
i know even with the screen turning off with the proxy censor i will find i am in the screen with the connections and battery info when i am done with a call... its kind of annoying and worrys me a bit i might accadently end the call when the screen is off.... also the flip over to make it a confrence phone is a 50/50 thing... this device is so glitchy
I randomly get this too, I think sometimes the sensor isn't used.. There are times I've noticed I can cover it up completely with my thumb and the screen doesn't go off, but other times it works just fine.

Tweak...some testing to see where the sensor is (somewhere along the top near the HTC logo) and an X-acto knife to the case?
same thing happens to me, most of the time somehow I turn on airplane mode and the call disconnects.. sigh
TouchLockPro has a feature which turns the screen off using the G-sensor, but it's not just for calls, if you have it horizontal it'll be on, and if vertical it suspends/screen turns off; this would be good if it was just for calls, especially for those that use a case.
I'm just starting to use TouchLockPro (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444215) and I have most of the locking features turned off - I just hit the power button if I want to lock it.
It does keep the screen locked during a call so I no longer hit the buttons. Plus - when it unlocks I'm right back, exactly, where I left off.
There's lots of options to tweak, I think there's something for just about everyone.
I LOVE unlocking with the zoom bar - first time I've used that thing on my phone

Awesome. Mind sharing what settings you have enabled, please?
Sure
Light Sensor, Stylus Sensor, GSensor, Nav Sensor, :
Nothing checked (all disabled)
Keyboard:
Use Slider, Suspend On Slider In, Slider Out Disables LockMode and EnableInputAtSuspend are all checked, everything else is un-checked (HTC Lock API, Double TouchPanel Lock and KeepAliveAlways are un-checked.
BattClock:
just some preferences set for appearance
Telephone API:
Everything is checked (except light)
Software:
Nothing set up
Other Settings:
AutolockOnPowerOn and UnlockOnACPower are checked, everything else is un-checked (added vibrates Lock/Unlock once - I like the extra notification)

thanks! works like a charm now, is there any way to lock it if it is idle for like 30 secs or something without havin to hit the power button
There's a number of ways to lock it using the various sensors - you can try one of those and see what fits your habits / style best. You can also click on the BattClock icon to get the menu - the lock icon is right there. That's 2 steps though...

Screen off by call with light sensor????

Hello all. Its possible to do for x1 that, screen to do off by call with lightsensor?????? i saw that by nokia and samsung.
Thx
While I am not a developer, and I can't say for certain if it's possible due to hardware limitations on X1... I have done a LOT of things with my X1 since Dec 2008 (incl installing custom ROMs), and I don't think that's possible.
Someone came up with an app once ("Touch InCall Screen Tweak" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991) that was somehow supposed to do that for HTC devices, but it didn't work for me on the X1.
You can try it out; I may have done something wrong way back when. The guy who wrote it says it worked on his HTC Touch Pro, and the X1 is essentially a customized HTC TP.
One thing I can confirm for you: the Xperia X2 comes with this feature (native, at least in the latest firmware). It's really a nice device that's received an unfair rap.

Dear antoschka2,
Screen off on call works by the use of "Proximity" sensor, which detects that, the Mobile is near to the person's face, it turns off the screen.
Light sensor is for other perpose, it detects that, when surroundings light in the Room etc, is Dim, it also Dims the screen light, it is also called Ambiant sensor.
Regards,
I think it may be possible since when you have your phone need your ear, your head will be covering the light therefore the phone will know it should turn off the light. Although this may not always be accurate.
Touch InCall Screen Tweak need G-sensor

Arc LED Notification light.

I thought the Arc had a notification light on the Battery charging light but cannot find the settings in the menu & when i get a message via gmail, there is no light just a notification in the bar??? Does anyone else get a flashing light if so any idea where the settings are.
Cheers
Just did another test & the led light does flash. But when you press the power or home key (which displays the lock screen) the led stops flashing which is silly as you can easily press the home key in your pocket.
Is there anyway to leave the led light flashing until you swipe & unlock the phone, or to disable waking up the phone by pressing the home key.
i think Led always stop flashing after the screen comes on. This was also on my nexus. didn't com across something to keep it flashing while the screen comes on.
Anyways i don't like the led location, i never see it.

Agree Stupid place to put it, but at least it has one unlike LG & Samsung phones. hope it is possible to stop the phone from waking by pressing the home key though.
I want programmable notification lights like the X1 had.
My X1 still works, but it lacks any decent software to make it work well.
I love it! I ordered a PDAir case with a cutout for the light so I can see it witout taking it out of the case.
Anyone tried Light Flow app?
I hope we can use the lights of the buttons under the screen as notifications too

This was exactly what i was thinking of, it would be great.
That would be BackLight Notification (BLN) it exists for samsung phones that doesn't have a LED.
But it needs a modified kernel to work. So we have to wait for SE to unlock the bootloader and someone to adapt the kernel for bln to work.
It's possible in a cyannogen mod rom under led setting... we'll have to wait for custom roms to use it that way..

has anyone found a way to make the 2 LED lights work for notifications?
Any news on this topic? Will it be possible without rooting the device?
Would be perfect if I can use the front-leds of the device for notifications.

[Q] Hardware buttons - permanently light up?

Hello!
I just switched from HTC Hero to HTC Wildfire S
Is there any ROM or App that lights up the hardware buttons permanently?
I know that they are linked to the light sensor. But in low-light conditions I really can't tell where the buttons are

Welcome to the WFS forum anyway.
Well for me the light sensor does not work properly here. I cannot see the buttons dusky in light conditions
Try screen filter it has options for turning on the button lights.
When u Start the program it'll dim ur screen then click it's settings in notification bar and adjust the slider to set the dimness and select the option to light up the buttons.
Not sure what u mean by permanent but just try it out and give a thumbs up if it helped
Hi! Screen Filter does not work even thought I selected the option for light up the buttons
By permenent I mean: I want the hardware buttons to light up always when the display is on.
Isn't. That the. Default case?
My buttons. Are always lit when. My display. Is on
Edit: using cyanogenmod 7.2
Maybe this will help
