Thoughts? Regrets? I'm on the fence, and I can't find any threads anywhere with someone is talking about making the switch.
I would love to see an XDA user that went from SGS2-SGN post thoughts and regrets. Woulda thought it would have happend already, am I missing it??
I am one such person. No regrets man. ICS is light years ahead. Nexus screen is not as bright as that of GS2 but more than makes up thanks to high Res and sheer size. I absolutely hated the visual treatment of TouchWiz though I loved the functionality. Here with Nexus I have my cake and can eat it too.
Everything is better and refined. USB connectivity is such that I can use my phone and at the same time manage memory on PC. HDMI out works brilliantly. Love the blue highlights on wifi and network notifications telling when they are active and not merely connected.
Do I miss something about GS2? Of course. The camera. The Facebook integration. The expandable memory. Not much else. I think Samsung were allowed to cut a corner in hardware specs but even then the trade off is OK. A white GS2 looks miles better though.
So no regrets, God has been kind to me so far!

I'm using the 2 devices, mainly GN. SGS2 for me is slightly faster especially when there is a heavy usage with multitasking .. but i love my GN and planning to keep using it till they announce the next nexus next year
I owned a sgs2 for 6 months and sold it the day after i got my Nexus and don't regret it at all.
Nexus is the best phone i ever had!!

went from SG2 to SG2 Skyrocket to Galaxy Nexus.
Havent looked back.
I also made the jump.
As for regrets? i wouldn't say i regret making the change, but the improvement wasn't as drastic as I envisioned.
My GS2 had CheckROM v4
My Galaxy Nexus is bone stock, unrooted.
Here are some of the features i miss from my SGS2:
1) Overall, GS2 was smoother. I get slight jitters when scrolling fast on the SGN. Also, running a non-hardware accelerated live wallpaper results in choppiness when swiping between home screens.
2) I miss the camera on my GS2. Although SGN is faster at taking photos, I can tell quality is sacrificed.
3) I miss certain features of TouchWiz from GS2.
a) The Dialer. Why AOSP ICS doesn't have a "smart dialer" is beyond me. (i.e. spell out names with the dial pad). I know there are market apps i can download, but i'm irked that I have to rely on 3rd party apps for such a basic feature.b) The music player. TW Music player allowed me to play by folder. I'm aware that if I properly tagged my music I wouldn't require such a feature, but I couldn't be bothered with ID3 tagging. In my mind, it's just simpler to drop-in a folder and play it. In Canada, we also don't get the cloud syncing feature, so the stock ICS music player is virtually useless to me. Again, I have to rely on 3rd party apps.c) I miss having the ability to create folders in the app tray. on ICS, i can create folders on the homescreen, but not in the app tray.d) I miss the ability to add/remove homescreens. on ICS, we are stuck with 5, with no ability to add more or remove homescreens.
4) LED notification light - I didn't noticed how much I'd miss having a notification light until I got the SGS2, so the addition of the notification LED on the SGN is nice, but it's flaky. Sometimes it blinks, sometimes it just stays lit, somtimes its white and sometimes its green. If the colours are supposed to mean anything, I haven't figured it out yet.
5) GS2 is lighter and thinner, but SGN is easier to hold
6) Screen - GS2 screen is lower res, but its brighter and colours are "deeper". With the higher res screen, it's still displaying the same amount of content, just smaller and finer. It's not like changing the desktop PC's resolution where you suddenly get more screen "real estate". I still get the same 4x4 home screen grid and same 4x5 app tray, but everything is just "smaller" and "finer". I'm assuming this is due to Android's ability to "scale" for different screen resolutions. Also, the SGN's auto-brightness really needs to be improved - It's way too dim.
7) The biggest thing I miss is the battery life of my SGS2. My SGN is barely able to squeeze out 12hrs before it shuts itself off. My GS2 was able to squeeze out 16+ hours with battery life to spare before I plugged it in at night. With that said, I remember when i first got my GS2, my battery life was poor as well. So as the SGN and ICS matures, I'm hoping I'll see better battery life, just like the SGS2.
If I had a choice to switch my SGS2 for SGN again, I would, simply because having a Nexus phone means unlimited possibilities and a guaranteed 1.5 year support cycle from Google. If you noticed, most of those drawbacks I pointed are software related, and not hardware. Software can be worked around or fixed, and ICS is still new. There will be many ICS updates to come...and after every update, ICS will get better and better.
In terms of hardware, I rate the SGS2 and SGN even. They both have their pros and cons, but in the end, they are pretty damn close.
I was using the TMO SGS2 Hercules, which is similar to the ATT SGS2 Skyrocket, for about 3 weeks prior to the GNex.
The SGS2, after rooting and removing the TMO bloatware and essentially keeping the same ROM, seemed a bit snappier than the GNex and has better contrast + brightness. The GNex is unlocked and a pure Google experience and I don't plan on rooting it. I like getting the updates directly from Google. Had the SGS2 been running ICS 4.0, I would have had to think twice before spending $700+ for the GNex. Where the only real advantage would have been the resolution on the GNex. Both are great h/w platforms. My wife and daughter are using the SGS2 and are happy with it.
There is some good solid info here guys, thanks. I'm still on the fence lol. Switching from the GS1 to the GS2 was a no brainer. But this is really close. I'm thinking that I would be happy either way. So basically do I want to experience ICS now or later. I also paid $750 for my SG2 (from handtec) so I'm sure I would lose a bundle selling it now. The plan was to buy and sell an iPhone 5 on release day to help pay for the SG2, but that never happened. (thanks Apple)
Anyway, good stuff, thanks guys.

i have a solutuin for it.
go google a tutorial on using google music outside of US.
im using it in the netherlands now. have almost 2000 music files synced/uploaded,and streaming them to my phone now, turgh 3G.
havent had the SG2 my self.
but did held it in my hand and know TW.
so i dont think allot of people that buy a Gn for the nexus purpose wil ever regret.
as for 4) get light flow. its your answer to it.
and about 7)
remember that you have a custom rom? on your SG2.how do you think the GN will preform with a low bat usage rom?
Looks like most of the gripes are TW related, and I'm an ADW junky, so no problem there...
I've also been a super longtime user of NoLed, but it would be nice to save battery and just use the built in led if it works...
For those selling off your GS2's, where are you selling them and how much are you getting? (roughly)
Ok, stupid question. Watching MobileTechReview's video on the phone, while she is on the home screen, there is only back, home, and multi-task buttons. How do you get to the settings from the home screen with no menu button?
It's at the top of the status bar when you drag it down. (3 little sliders icon)

You can use a custom rom that integrates an extra settings menu at the bottom at all times. Or there is a settings shortcut built into the notification drop down. Its not right off the home screen but its just as easy IMO
i'll agree with everything except the #6 "low res" part
800x480 was defacto HD (high res) on all devices until the new 1024x720 came out with the GN
older devices with 3.5" screen were running low res
All the games in Android Market or Gameloft you see marked HD are for 800x480
on the SGS2 if you run those non HD games, you will see really blurry crappy pictures because they were made for low res older generation devices
I don't know what the game makers are going to start calling the new games made for 720, but it will definitely need to be something other than HD to no confuse the whits out of our noggins
probably BD (blueray resolution) or SHD (super HD), because HD is staying as is for the DVD resolution (800x480)

Kidding aside, you bring a good point.
SGS2 vs SGN
I am still on the fence! I have both right now and the one issue I can point out is the form factor. Why they curved the SGN is beyond me, it adds ALOT to the bottom of the phone. Almost makes it seem huge. SGN might be going back! I think you need to spend some time with it before dropping 7 beans. SGS2 will hopefully be getting a leaked ICS soon. Keep that in mind as well.

I had the EU SGS2 and the ATT SGS2. The nexus is amazing the only thing that would make the nexus perfect (for me) is if i were able to get the samsung stock keyboard or the motorola stock keyboard. the ICS one just isnt doing it for me.
edit: if anyone knows how to get these keyboards into a nexus please let me know it would greatly appreciated

Have you tried anything from the market? I'm a big fan of SwiftKey X myself...
I'm leaning more towards getting the GN... not excited about giving up my $10 unlimited data plan.. but its inevitable anyway. My GF and I both have SGS2's with that plan.

Not that it matters, but I've already read at least 10 comparisons with the final result being in favour of the HTC one X.
so 'finally' is a bit redundant
you people are crazy, the OP is an SGS3 fan and he thinks we are supposed to be fooled by the stupid thread title
no its not one, the One X was actually favored by over than 50% of the online media, although this is not the first time Engadget said this
in their SGS3 review they talked more about the One X than the s3
i don't get it seriously people, do you suffer from a inferiority complex that force you to make such ridiculous posts in the One X forum?
The One X beats the SGS 3 in everything except the GPU and Battery, there is nothing more to say here!
have we not had enough of these threads already

Guys, it was the HTC One XL that won the comparison. Snapdragon S4 is awesome with excellent performance, great battery life and LTE.
The international tegra3 OneX didn't win anything. Unfortunately, It's a terrible chip set with low performance, low battery life, causes "overheat" battery status frequently, runs on an old Linux kernel, and slows to a crawl when you fill up the storage.
Comparing the American hoxl with the American sgs3: they have the same hardware except the sgs3 has double the ram, which means that it doesn't have the multitasking problems of the hoxl.
However, if you ignore the poor multitasking, the software on the HTC side is imo better than touchwiz when it comes to look and feel - which was one of engadgets reasons for preferring it. They praised the inclusion of a multitasking button instead of a menu button which is funny because all of the custom roms have remapped the buttons!, so they must really enjoy seeing the 3 dot button wasting screen space everwhere
At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Software wise, I'm looking forward to a stable CM10 on my gs3. So for me only hardware matters.
so really what should we do in here?
we need a mod that can really take action
this is getting ridiculous

If u think that makers of GTX 680 (Nvidia) can be crushed so easily then u r wrong..
U have a pentile display which has ink marks n black clipping n color banding issues..We HOX owners don't even piss on such displays coz the color of it is also appear grey on it. .
The first thing u look at n keep looking at the whole time is the screen n when its that ****ty then nobody gives a damn..
The S3 is officially the ugliest looking phone ever. N this is supported by Android Police,Engadget etc..
The support of tegra 3 is gonna be way Better coz its on so many devices now including Nexus 7. . N with Microsoft surface also coming out with tegra 3 we might e able to port windows 8 to HOX. .
Nobody gives a damn to exynos. .

I looked at a SGS3 display vs the HOX and whilst the HOX display is sharper, brighter and has better colors, the SGS3 display is pretty good, you hardly notice it's pentile unless you go looking for it. The color banding is not a display issue but a software choice made by Samsung to increase sharpness, it is called mdnie and the SGS2 at least had many different profiles (for different apps/lighting situation), so there never would be banding in the galery

Apparently its not a software issue..in the pentile arrangement the sub pixels are shared between pixels..Supercurio is a developer here n he tried to fix this issue for months on Galaxy Note but couldn't even improve it. Let alone fixing it n ultimately he gave up n the thread was closed. .
N u r comparing it to S2 !!!!!!!!... s2 has an RGB display n is way better than Note n s3 crap. .
N s2 is the best phone from Samsung's stable til now ..
Sent from my Stunning White HTC One X
Hi friends.
I currently own a Nexus 4 and I have loved this device for a REALLY long time. However, now I think its time to upgrade. My upgrade is due to the following 4 reasons ONLY.
1) Screen Size. I want a bigger screen size than my N4
2) Available Memory. 16 GB. Every now and then its full. Cant expand. I take lotsa pictures and videos.
3) Camera. MAJOR REASON. Oh I hate my phone whenever I open the camera app. The camera itself is just plain pathetic. It just cant focus AT ALL. The pictures are 95% of the times blur. No my hands are not shaky. But this phone requires your hands to be trained on a snipper perhaps. And the pics are always dull, without life.
4) Battery. Need to charge it quite a lot. Although I am not a heavy user at all. But KitKat has ruined the phone. Moreover, I do NOT play games at all and never use data. If it had a removable battery, I would have easily charged the extra battery and use it on the go.
Earlier I was thinking abt LG G Pro but now I am thinking of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo. So picking SGN3Neo for the following reasons:
1) First and foremost, Price. It has dramatically slashed. It now costs $380, unlocked.
2) Camera. I dont know but have read in the reviews that it's not on par with S4, however it miles better than N4. I mostly CROP images and stuff, so it is good for cropping? How's video/pics in night? Blur? or Clear?
3) Battery. Again, tech site and customers reviews say it is awesome. And ya, its removable. Lets say if it fails in a couple of year, i can easily buy one and replace it.
4) It's got a micro SD card slot upto 64 Gig. So memory shouldn't be a problem.
5) I think 720p should be fine, considering it has AMOLED display.
6) OTG, for even more space.
Prices of other phones in my country.
LG G2: $440
LG G Pro: $280
Galaxy S4: $450
OnePlus One: *ock Teaser (not interested)
As you can see, almost all these phones are priced quite above Neo 3, so I am toooo inclined towards the Neo as it has decent specs. Moreover, I don't much care about Android updates. But still would want to know, have you guys gotten KITKAT? As MANYY users are reporting firmware issues and other day-to-day issues with the phone. Like: phones shows full signals, regardless sim is inserted or not. Or, screen flickering issues. etc
I would request you guys to let me know how the camera is. The camera is very important for me, so please tel me your experiences. And is there any other flaw you guys found with the Neo 3 that you suggest me not opting for it?
And ya does ti lag badly? Say like S3? (The only reason I have hated samsung phones is, LAG. Please tell me does it lag after a while?
, once the phone is filled with lotsa apps and media?
TL;DR... Want to upgrade from N4 to SGN3 Neo. Please suggest.
1. Got mine for around $360 unlocked, great value.
2. The camera is great. Video is superb. Low-light is excellent too. Having a little difficulty focusing on a macro scale though, well it's same for most devices too. The front camera is good as well, even for a 2MP.
3. Battery. 74HR Endurance Rating on GSMArena. Excellent!
4. Yep!
5. 720P S-Amoled. What looks bad on paper, actually looks great, in my opinion. I don't notice much difference having used a N3 before. Lower res = better battery life. S-Amoled means excellent viewing angles, deep blacks and good saturation!
6. OTG. Expansion much?
go for it. You have your concerns covered.

By the way, Samsung has just launched Neo 3 with Snapdragon 800 CPU and a subsequent GPU. Currently available in Korea only. I am sure it will make it to other countries too. Do you think I should wait a little longer and grab that one? It's available in Korea since Mar 3rd, however, I couldn't find even its model number on internet, so that I may ask the store here in my city to get one. Plus, its not even mentioned on eBay or Amazon :s

They will. I mean all these phones, regarldless of their region of release, make it to almost everywhere. But I was wondering, is QS 800 THAT good than the Exynos Hexacore that I should wait?
If there is a difference of lets say, 20% even, I am pretty much OK with it.

The Hexa Neo is a workhorse. The Snapdragon might/might not reach you. If it does, just pray it's bands would be supported. Also, the firmware might be least updated, and compatibility issues with the roms/tweaks/root that might be available.
It's your call though. :fingers-crossed:

I own a N3Neo and came from a Nexus 4. Pretty much everything you mentioned is a pro for the N3N3o against the Nexus 4. I love having access to a SD card again since I can load it up with music (I don't use the cloud since I listen to music on my commute to work and there are dead spots for cell service for me). Regarding the display, 720p o a 5.5 is perfectly fine.
Or, screen flickering issues. etc

I own the Hong Kong version and I haven't had many problems with the phone. The stock 4.3 firmware is excellent. The only major issue I have is sometimes the radio doesn't pick up a signal when I go from a dead zone to a non-dead zone - turning on airplane mode and then off fixes it. Not a major annoyance.
I would request you guys to let me know how the camera is. The camera is very important for me, so please tel me your experiences. And is there any other flaw you guys found with the Neo 3 that you suggest me not opting for it?

Camera seems pretty decent better than the N4. This is my first samsung phone so sometimes I notice when I take a picture, move the phone when it's "processing" the image, the saved image is not what I took, but during mid-motion. Odd.
And ya does ti lag badly? Say like S3? (The only reason I have hated samsung phones is, LAG. Please tell me does it lag after a while?
, once the phone is filled with lotsa apps and media?

Almost no issues with lag and I've been using the phone since mid-April of this year. The hexacore Exynos+Mali T624 seems to keep the phone moving at a good clip. I have read some people have had issue with lag, but my HK region version has been great.
TL;DR... Want to upgrade from N4 to SGN3 Neo. Please suggest.

Try it out! I have to say it's one of the best sub-$400 phones on the market right now - great price/performance ratio and you get all the Note 3 goodies in a cheaper package.

Haha, yea, after posting and seeing your signature, I was like "ohhh, the person already bought the Neo." haha. I'm really loving the phone even though sometimes I feel like it's a tad too big and also I wish it had LTE support in the US.
@hakz - Turning smart stabilization off worked! I don't see the "processing" status bar anymore after taking a pic.

Oh I can't tell you how much I am loving this BIG screen. It's like I just bought myself an aeroplane haha. And that S-pen! Gosh it's a KILLER. No doubt the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is an amazing amazinggg experience. Moreover, I don't understand the hate people have against TouchWiz. Coming from a Nexus, I know how it feels. You go crazy and jump around, when you get an android update and in real life usage, what you get IS, a new interface of the dialer, which apparently is a knock of of Windows UI. Nexus, always left me with desires... the desires of MOST simplest things which Google doesn't care much about.
BDW I am still getting those blurry images even after disabling the Image Stabilization. One of the biggest problems with Nexus Camera (apart from insanely pathetic cam quality) was, I had to keep my hands ROCK and STEADY to take a clear pic... else pictures used to come out blurry. I am seeing this somewhat in this phone too. Samsung has the best cameras in cell phones since ages. Wasn't expecting this. What's your firmware? Let me compare with mine.

I don't really have a problem with TW really in normal usage - I keep things simple on my phone. Three home screens, a few widgets and the quick toggles when you drop down the notification shade has everything I need quick access too. The button that brings you to more toggles I rarely use. I feel like keeping it simple helps when "migrating" from stock Android to Touchwiz - just don't bother with all the extra doohickies Samsung bundles. My only gripe is the unnecessary complexity of Settings, but thankfully there is a search bar to quickly search for setting that's buried somewhere.
On the Neo, TW barely lags if any which is really odd since playing around with the US version of the Note 3, GS4 and GS5 I noticed lag in touchwiz on demo models in stores (maybe cuz they're on for so long and people play around with them?). But, even so, on my Neo, a whole day of using it, no lag.

The "blurriness" I was talking about was when smart stabilization is on and I quickly move the phone while the phone is processing the image the resulting picture is not what I took, but mid-motion. I just tried out taking some photos with smart stabilization on and off and the photos are noticeably blurry with the setting off. I'd say keep the stabilization on, take a picture with somewhat steady hands and then wait for the phone to finish processing the image to get best results.
Regarding firmware I am on N7505ZHUAND2 which is the latest firmware for the Hong Kong version - that's the region phone I was shipped.

I just arrived back from NY where my Nexus 7 2013 was stolen. I've got $350 and at first I was looking at the G Pad but I like tactile buttons and on ever on screen button setup I always end up hiding them.
Do you have any regrets? Any happy surprises? Any suggestions for other tablets in the same range?
All help and information is very very welcome.
Thanks
Screen is the only major attraction of the tab S. Other than this, there is nothing great about this tab. My major concern is the battery, at max I am getting 6 hrs of screen on time on my SM-T700. And also on playing graphic intensive games, the tab gets heated up (I guess, it's common thing, but not a major issue).
Still happy

Best tab I've used for reading and light surfing. Getting a whole day (about 7 hours or so) on single charge. Don't game at all though. No lag.... the screen seals the deal. None better in this form factor for whatever you do.
still happy, wish there was more development for the pad though

I am happy with the brightness of the screen. I am very happy with taking video. But it is an expensive camcorder so far for me. I admit that I get frustrated easily when I can't make it do what I want - like **eliminate FLIPBOARD**. When I turn on the tab S, it goes to a page of "widgets" immediately. I suppose the function of this screen is supposed to be ? I don't know. I hate it and wish I could eliminate it because none of the acceptable (aka pre-installed) widgets has any decent content. So I tried Twitter and Tumblr - thinking that they would just load up with my content. Wrong-o! You have to link them to Flipboard, which I refuse to do!
This might seem like a petty annoyance, but it is a huge one to me. I own an iPhone, and it has a pre-installed app page that is the first thing you see, but it actually has some useful apps on it, such as messages, phone and weather! This thing has nothing like that.
I was hoping to use the Tab S for email when I'm out of town. Email is not able to be configured in ascending time order. So you get the answers before you see the questions, which I LOATHE! Seems like a simple thing, but apparently too complicated for this tab to handle. This is NOT Twitter, it's my mail! And I'd like to see Monday's before I see Tuesday's, call me old fashioned!
I have taken a lot of video - my daughter is a high school athletic coach. The video is spectacular and simple to take! I love it! I opened a Google Plus account and made a "circle" to share this video. I uploaded it, which took a long time (Thanks Comcast!). My daughter's fellow coaches could see the video! WIN! Now I would like to delete the video from my Tab S.....Um wait a minute here. Can't do it. Somehow Google Plus puts a hook into it, and I can't remove it unless I remove if from the circle on Google Plus, defeating what I see as the purpose of Google Plus.
I am happy I found this forum, and I hope to find some answers to my myriad questions. I've been on the internet for over 20 years, I am old but think I've managed to stay fairly up to date with my phone and laptop. What I couldn't believe is that there is so little help online for this tablet. I have had to go to Best Buy and ask my Samsung Rep there how to do the simplest things that should be, but are not, intuitive. I am using Windows 7 on my laptop, and have an iPhone 5 and know how to deal successfully with both those OS's, but wow, this one has me stumped!
So - I'd say 5 stars on hardware, 1 star on software, leaving a 3 star review.
Screen is snappy but not totally satisfied with the battery life. Eats a chunk when reading and wifi on with connection lasts for 3-4 hours topps . The reason I bought this is so I could read.. don't make me move to the darkside Sammy!
Waiting for lollipop update hope things will get better if not this will go for sale

I did already that. Brightness is at -2 sometimes -3 well still sucky battery. Lasts longer with wifi off though at 6 hours but with it on oh its very disliking! 3 hours wtf? With 4900mah battery really?? Anyway the main point is no matter what I do I am not happy with battery life
Anyone know how to remove the widget on the home screen on the far left, the widget houses 3 sub widgets like samsung watch on, gallery, calender, quick briefing and a few others . I can delete 2 of the 3 sub widgets but can't delete the 3rd one nor the main widget. Gonna try to post a screen shot of the page. Do I have to root to remove that page or will doing that still not allow me to remove the widget?

Try a different home launcher. The first thing a lot of Samsung owners do is replace the native Samsung TouchWiz home launcher with another one. Example, the Google Now launcher maybe. But if you read through these forums, you'll find that the Nova Launcher seems to be the more popular android home launcher that users switch these vendor provided home launchers out for.
From what I can tell, you can't remove that from the stock TouchWiz launcher. I configured mine as something innocuous and then I learned to never scroll that far to the left.

I just switched from Nova Launcher (which I've used since my Nexus 7 2012) to Action Launcher 3. I like Nova a lot, but wanted to try something that would enable me to have a single home screen. AL3 is fast and has a scrolling app menu that you access by swiping from the left (as well as the traditional app drawer). You can also group icons on your desktop with the Cover feature, such that tapping the icon will launch a selected app and swiping on the icon will open a folder and use Shutters to attach widgets and actions to icons. I've been using AL3 for a day or so and I'm really pleased with it.
I'm really happy with my Tab S, but only because I rooted it shortly after getting it in November. I use Titanium Backup to disable most of the Samsung bloatware so that it runs as smoothly as possible. That includes Touchwiz, S Finder, S Health, SideSync, KNOX...basically most of the stuff that Samsung adds to Android.
I'm 90% happy! This tablet has a single 'disappointment' for me: Battery life. I manage to make it last the whole day (of course, I don't use it the whole day like a maniac). It is compensated by the charger provided by Samsung, which seems to be pretty fast. I am also sad because of the official Book Cover I bought with the tablet, it has week hooks it's constantly disattaching, I've dropped accidentally the tablet 3 times in 3 months :/
But overall it's a great tablet. The screen is stunning, processor capacity fair enough, memory is amazing, and build quality is great!
I'm very happy with my tablet. At first I had the wifi version and battery life was horrible. So I exchanged it for the AT&T version and get 2x battery life from a single charge. I think it comes down to the processor.
Right now the LTE versions are cheaper than the wifi versions at Best Buy. You should consider a price match if you already bought one.
Hey everybody!
Quick question: would you replace your Galaxy S21 Ultra with a Pixel 6 Pro?
I'm asking it because I'm a S21 owner but I've never been completely in love with the Samsung design (those squircle icons...) nor all the Samsung apps I don't use and can't remove. I'm into Google apps and services and I'm attracted by the simple and minimal design of the Pixel 6. On the other hand, I like Samsung for the plethora of options and features they add to the Android system, most of which are not in the Pixel.
I've been reading around a lot and it seems that in terms of performance and battery the two phones are basically the same - and the S21 is one year old almost. The S21 could have a slightly better camera, whereas the Pixel can count on the Tensor chip and specific features.
So, what's your thought?

You're probably not going to be happy with a Pixel. The UX is polar opposite of Sammy's and a few cool features aren't probably going to be enough for you to unlike what you liked about Sammys in the first place.
Icons? There are hundreds of free icon packs, themes and more at the Samsung Galaxy store.
You can use a package disabler to block apps you don't want.
Personally I rejected the S21U because of no SD card slot or spen.
The Pixel is a bare bones UI, just the opposite of Samsung. I've seen the homepage screen shots for the Pixels and they're damn weak.
You can really trick out stock Samsung's... Good

I personally just made the exact switch you're thinking of doing. It doesn't have all of the "custom" additions that the S21U does but I feel like because of that the Pixel feels better.
The biggest reason I switched was for the performance. The S21U felt laggy and slow even compared to my previous phone (OnePlus 8 Pro). The Pixel feels way smoother of an experience.
Camera is subjective but I've always been a fan of the "Google" processing so I've installed a GCam mod on every phone I can, S21 included.
I'm much happier now on the Pixel 6 pro than the S21U so if you're okay with a more minimalistic phone without all of the Samsung goodies, then this might be worth the switch.
Yes, I would replace any Samsung with the P6P. My wife and I were happy with the first Pixel, which we used until they stopped updating it almost two years ago. I was waiting for Google to come out with a 512 GB model, and since they hadn't yet we got the Samsung Note 10+ 512 GB.
When the P6P 512 GB model was revealed, I knew it was time to buy, and sell our Samsungs, which I did on Swappa without wasting much time. The only thing we slightly miss is the included stylus.
I could go on and reiterate a list of things I didn't like about Samsung's version of Android (the hardware was great). One major thing I couldn't stand about the software was the erratic, unreliable notifications of my GMail, Hangouts, and Google Chat.
I don't have a work phone because I don't want to use iOS, and I count on prompt notifications when I'm busy multitasking on my work PC. Sometimes I wouldn't get notifications for two hours after the email was sent. My work uses Google for everything. Sometimes I would get a notification of an email hours after I had already seen it on the PC and had deleted it.
I tried everything I could to try to fix it with no luck. My brother's family has their very first smartphone in the last several years when they bought the Samsung Galaxy S9+. When I told him about my notification issue, he said he assumed that's just the way Android is (no, it's not).
As I said, I could detail a long list but I've been over it before so it gets tiring.
Good luck, whatever you choose.

you can trick out any android phone. Not hard to put a different launcher and icons on it. The homescreen you attached there looks no better than any of the other homescreens on any other phone.
i have both devices, ehm three(s21, s21u, p6pro) and i will say, P6pro is better, same performance, a lot better battery, comparing camera(what i miss so much is better zoom with S21U). p6pro is battery friendly, same usage and you get 10h SOT, with S21U only 5-7(but with profiles - data, bt off, in night Flicght mode...)
Same here. I still have my s21u and currently using the p6p. As of now, I'm content with the 6 pro. Battery can be better. This phone is fairly new and there will be lots of updates.
I'd stick with the S21 Ultra. If you want a better UI, download Nova Launcher and a Pixel icon pack. Also #Hex Installer allows you to completely redesign the UI with Pixel style icons and less rounded elements throughout. I'm not sure if it's working with Android 12 yet though. If you hate the bloat, there are ways to disable the majority of it using ADB.
I like the Pixel 6 Pro a lot, but I'm not gonna lie, there are A LOT of things that Samsung phones do better. Samsung has GoodLock for endless customization, Always on Display Customization, the 5G modem works better, and charging seems to be faster and more reliable.
I'm already using Nova and tried so many times with #Hex but I've never achieved a complete and consistent customisation - unfortunately I have a thing for design done well.
What's really holding me is that:
- the P6P modem is actually worse than the S21U
- charging time is the same if not worse than S21U, in contrast to what Google initially promised
- battery life is basically the same
- the P6P display is less brighter (least worst)
And I also consider that the S21U is one year older than the P6P. So I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle. On the other hand I know the P6P is new, so it's expected to receive fixes and updates - but improving the modem or battery sounds like a miracle

you can trick out any android phone. Not hard to put a different launcher and icons on it. The homescreen you attached there looks no better than any of the other homescreens on any other phone.

You don't get it. No 3rd party launcher needed as the icons packs, theme etc plug directly in. One UI is fast and uses far less resources and battery than Nova.
My homescreen is purposely devoid of display degrading, lame top bar icons and battery eating crap. I could junk it to the max if so inclined
Smooth completely user controlled pull down notifications, none of the Pixel snap stuff. Animations can be completely disabled (yes they are disabled) without unwanted side effects unlike Pixel.
Pull down notifications... any colors or shade my evil heart desires.
Nope

but youre missing the point yourself. Samsung is just another launcher on top of android letting you customise it. No different to buying any phone and choosing which launcher you want to put on.

Big difference.
One UI is integrated into the device. It's extremely stable, fast, and efficient. Currently it's using 83mb of ram. Current total ram usage 5.1 of the 12gb with 2 browsers open.
Many of the customizations are built into the base load of the N10+. Keep what you like, disable the rest.

For fairness’s sake, every UI has its quirks and bugs. Neither Googles Launcher, nor Samsung are perfect.
Samsung users claimed a heckload of bugs when the One UI versions came, for anecdotal purposes

Samsung One UI 4 Beta review: Phenomenal cosmic bugs, itty bitty feature set

Et cetera. And we all know Googles bugs, even though it's sometimes hard to differentiate between general Android version bugs and specific Google Launcher bugs.
In the end, it's a question of personal taste.
Most people in a Google Pixel forum will tell you "Go Google Pixel".
Most people in a Samsung Galaxy forum will tell you "Go Samsung Galaxy".
Why? Because people freakin paid money for a product they want to like. Nobody wants to buy sh*t. Nobody wants to get ripped off. Nobody wants to feel like the id*ot that bought a broken product.
It's normal for people to say "my product is awesome, buy it!!!" - it's not always a rational decision, or a good one, but it's a human one.
(You have to mind the trolls though, meaning people that never owned a device, but trying to tell people what to think about it. Or people trying to go on a personal level because they lack arguments, often or not found here at XDA).
In the end, what matters is that manufacturers fix their stuff, and both Google and Samsung tend to do that, so I'd give both a recommendation. The S21 Ultra has the better screen and battery life and a slightly better processor, Google has the better camera, connectivity (in terms of notifications that are not delayed, not modem) and unique software features (now playing, live translate, automatic call screening, whatever - since all Samsung features can be easily ported over to a (rooted) Pixel, but not vice versa - and no, Shazam cannot replace now playing, it's not nearly as convenient and efficient). So it's up to you to decide whats more important.
Even though there were certain Samsung that tended to explode in your pants, you know the whole recall with specialized explosion safe packaging story, that was a bummer of the magnitude 8.
Personally, I can't Samsung. But not because their products are ****. No, Samsung just behaves like an a**. They want to forcefeed you huge mountainsized ADS on your 9000 Dollars expensive television and that's just unacceptable on the magnitude 10. They will not get a single dime from me in the future. That kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated. If I pay thousands of dollars for a product, I have earned the right to never again have to bother with ads - if that company disagrees, f*ck them.

I think both of those devices suck; hardware and firmware. I wouldn't touch either... to be fair.

Well, if you want a good camera and don't want a chinese spy phone, there is not much to go around a Pixel. It's the old dilemma. If Apple had made jailbreaking and updating easier, plus had the decency to actually pay for codec licences (the **** do they not support aptx/ldac?! Music from Iphones (if you are used to custom tailored v4a with custom ddcs/convolvers) sound like sh*t - I would have probably made the switch, but iPhone is still a joke in terms of customization.
Besides, I don't think that neither Samsungs or Pixels suck, they both serve specific needs and make some compromises, as does Apple. Sadly, there is no perfect phone. In theory, it should be easy to achieve, but as of now, no manufacturer ever tried hard enough.
For my personal need, the pixel 6 pro comes in as almost perfect. There are a couple minor things (why not all camera modi in 60fps Mode? Improve battery life, improve VRR, fix Android 12, give us modern camera sensors, improve post processing, more efficient panel, more efficient processor...) and some major ones (Modem, heat, I want Faceunlock AND ultrasonic, plus give me back improved Soli and edge sense and make battery replacement easy) that bother me. Once that's fixed/such a kind of device gets released, I'm going to keep that device until it breaks down and probably buy a spare phone to replace my own, since I know that manufacturers will f*ck it up again.
I have the had the s21 ultra since it came out. Nothing wrong with it but I travel and there's no s21 ultra model that has all the 5G bands in all locations... But the pixel (and iphone!) does. So I gave it a try and it's incredibly similar to the ultra especially in a leather case. In fact, using Nova I mimicked it almost completely!
Pixel charges slower, and I felt battery was slightly worse (but it needs time to settle in) but sound is good. Camera is good on both. Each has its benefits. Screen is slightly dimmer and less saturated and I felt that immediately, sort of like an LG device, felt a year or two behind the Samsung, but not a deal killer. They are about as fast as each other.
The difference is in the software. Whereas Samsung is well rounded, with years of maturity, Pixel is stock. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, just different. The only issue for me is lack of a decent email (and calendar to a lesser extent) on the pixel. I don't like Gmail and I have yet to find a comfortable 3rd party email package that meets my needs. The Samsung on the other hand has fantastic email and calendar software. That's a deal breaker for me.
One thing I would note is that, aside from radio bands, there's no area that I felt the pixel was actually better than the ultra (which is incredible considering that the ultra is nearly a year old). As good as, in most cases, but never a step up. And therefore I didn't think it made sense to switch as the software experience ultimately is more important to me than I originally realized.
Hope that helps.
As a side note, when I compared the pixel 6P on T-Mobile's 5G UC Network to an iPhone 13 pro at the same time, the iPhone 13 pro was nearly twice as fast (400mbs v 230). No idea why that was. I tested it many times in different places and it was almost always slower than the iphone on 5G. Not sure what to make of that!

What I mean is both hardware and firmware wise across the board 2021 has been a bust year for Android. Android 11 and 12 are a mess.
At least 2 years until scope storage is straighten out.
Issues with displays are common and 5G is still not mature. Slight improvements in cams but that technology was fairly mature 2 years ago so no big surprises there.
Any hardware improvements are being offset by cpu hogging scoped storage and forced encryption. Even the heavily modified Samsung UI can't clean up that mess.
You might think that Apple must be bribing Google to belly flop... but no, Google is really is this inept. No end in sight, Android is in a full self induced high G flat spin... maybe full afterburner will help

i have both devices, ehm three(s21, s21u, p6pro) and i will say, P6pro is better, same performance, a lot better battery, comparing camera(what i miss so much is better zoom with S21U). p6pro is battery friendly, same usage and you get 10h SOT, with S21U only 5-7(but with profiles - data, bt off, in night Flicght mode...)
