what custom kernel out there have the best battery?
I think there is only one custom kernel at this point so I'd go with that one!
yeah perseus just got almost 8 hrs screen on time with it first charge last night
thats funny because i have that kernel and the battery drain is pretty bad. i went from 89% to 73% in about 10 min. what about redpill?
where is that one at ?
It have its own thread, I just can't remember where I saw it at

Why should one flash a custom kernel? I understand if you want to overclock your phone for what ever reason but if you want to improve battery life why would you flash a custom kernel? HTC's last two kernels, #17 and #15, have given me great battery life; I had ~15hrs with 20% yesterday. And I'm not sure if it was some blunder the other day but it seemed #15 lessened the battery drop after having charged the phone overnight if not having cured it completely, I'll have to test it later.
Right now I'm using netarchy 4.2.2 CFS nohavs and 9 hrs on 16% used and will see how it goes for next day or so.
You get 15 hours?
Can you post a screen shot of your battery usage?

I'll post it tomorrow, but I was studying all day and had unplugged the phone the night prior to it.

15 hours doesn't really mean anything. I hope you understand that. If not, I can explain to the deficient.
Is #15 the newest kernal and if so may i have the link to get thank you

I have managed to make a Stock KL1 Odin flashable kernel in case anyone needs it. Please hit the thanks button if you found it useful.
I used Bubby's KID kernel as a guide and many thanks go to him

Can someone make a stock flashable kl1 kernel? I think it would be beneficial to everyone....there used to be a thread for an unlocked stock kernel that u could Oc or UV if u wanted, but search brings up nothing.... the only stock kernel available is by bubby and is the old KID kernel

No oc or uving, this is complete stock KL1 kernel they way it came with the phone. I actually had great battery life (about 17 hours) on stock, but I switched to other custom kernels and didnt have so great battery life. So, I was looking for a stock kernel and in the end made this one and flashed today. So battery life should be like stock.
Quick Q, I can ODIN this over Juggernaut 4.1? Without a wipe/reset?

Yes. You should be able to flash this just like any other kernel with the exception. Of this being flashed via Odin

Thanks. I am getting ****ty battery life also. I have tried everything, faux's, bullet, synergy's different versions, Gideon's UV scripts, underclocking, undervolting, with complete wipe, different roms, you name it. I still I lose 20+% battery per hour while I read on my phone. 10-11% if its idle. Completely ridiculous. Just tonight I thought of trying the stock kernel. Plus anytime my phone is awake, the top portion of my phone gets hot. I'm hoping its a kernel issue.

That sounds really bad. I was getting horrible battery life on other kernels but not that bad (i got around an average of 7-8 hours on custom kernels). However, one thing about stock kernel is that once you flash it, you have to give it 2-3 days -sometimes more- to get full capacity battery life (around 17 hours heavy use for me).
I'll test it out. My only concern was that the phone would warm up for no reason. The only time my phone can save battery is in flight mode. 7 hours in flight mode take about 5-8% battery. So the issue is most likely radio/kernel related IMO. Even having sync/data off didn't help much. I also average 7-8 hours. It's just that when I have the phone on to a dark screen with white text on it (opera mini, it has no fancy stuff, good reader browser) I would lose at least 15% in about 45 minutes. This is with no music, no data activity at the lowest brightness setting.
So this is my battery life after the first day. I would say today was lots of heavy use for me. Usually around this time im charging from dead, but with this kernel I still have 30 percent left to go. So about 15-16 hours on one charge with heavy use .I've tried all the custom kernels and this is the best I've ever gotten....
This one helped lots. I unplugged my phone at 1AM (100% charged) and then put it in flight mode. At 7AM I turned off flight mode and had used up 1% in 6 hours. From then till 3:30 I went down to 50%.
shehrammajid,
Thanks for the stock kernel. I am also trying to learn how to build a stock kernel. I have made a post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22845175
Can you please take a look at my steps and see where I am going wrong? Also can you post the guide you followed by bubby323?
Thanks.
I am serious about to go back to GB. ICS is sucking in the category of battery life. I need to know what is going on.
I am running Re-Calk 0.1.17 with Agat 4.3 and CPU Sleeper. Took my phone off the charger at 8pm and already down to 85% with it being in nothing but deep sleep. Same thing basically happened on Blazer also.
I need something to keep me on ICS. Someone please tell me what you are using.
I have had the same issue. Ive tried many combinations of roms, kernels and tweaks but I still haven't been able to match calk's 3.0. Curious to see if anyone is getting decent battery life on ICS.
I'm getting good battery on aokp m6 but it also varies widely depending on what I do. if I play alot of games or watch alot of video I have about 10% after a 16-18hr day if I just browse and txt I go to bed between 30-50%. Only tweaks I did was disable the capacitive buttons and led by deleting their files from inside the he folder in /system
We are legion, for we are many.

i use system tuner pro and change the cpu setting power save plus all add all the tweaks
I dunno, whats good for you? I am back on my trusty CM9 Nightly 7/17 which has the FF18 repack kernel which was supposed to be worse on battery life than the FF11. I get 30 hours or so on my days off or days at work when i might check the phone a couple times an hour.
Heavy usage any rom, any android version can kill an E4GT in 3 or 4 hours most days i get 6 to 8 with an hour of 100% brightness screen on time.
I am on the sprint official OTA and I avg around 13 -18 hrs with 5-6 hours screen time....could be more if I wasn't a heavy usage type

Wow, this almost seems too good to be true...What % usage was your Android OS? What other settings do you use (i.e. Auto Sync Off/On, Number of Apps, etc.) Are you sure you are not talking about the SG3?

2% screen on how many minutes was ur screen on
i think the reason why Calk 3.0 have superb battery life is because the CPU is underclocked at 800Mhz instead of 1.2Ghz
Just my $0.02
I was Super Galaxy ROM for a while and my battery life wasn't ever that great
I had to take my phone in for a signal problem (which ended up being a downed tower that the Sprint rep didn't bother to mention, don't get me started) and so I flashed to GB and then did the OTA update to ICS
I've been getting awesome battery life outta this thing now.. It was a really light use day today, but I'm at 60% after 13 hours (only 1 hr of screen on-time though).. but on SuperGalaxy I would usually be at about 20% of less even with little to no screen time.. (I did love everything else about Super Galaxy though)..
But I've seen lots of people say they got horrible battery life on the OTA... (I did start from a completely clean phone though if that matters)

no clue, i played a bit of temple run, made a few calls, and did a bit of texting
I'm running stock ICS and get the same battery life as GB. I can get 12-16 hours 8 if I'm on the phone constantly reading and browsing. Glad I don't have the issues others have had. At first my battery was pretty bad but it continued to improve over time.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EXPLAIN how share your secret
Basically she just updated to fi27 but then her battery drains about 17% in 4 hours my gs2 drains about 1% in that time.
Installed gsam and got this. She is not rooted and does not wish to be so I cant install new kernel
says 42min of cpu usage
By the way did anyone notice Sprint changed the name from Epic 4g Touch to Galaxy S2? I like the latter better........

How long ago was the phone upgraded? chances are you just need to let the kernel settle in. Usually for me it take around a day for everything to normalize. If you still have the issue you can flash the Odin tar FI27 (no-root) and see if that fixes the issue...if its still there.

If you haven't already do the spin test as well, especially if the phone is 9+ months old. (Pull the battery, see if it spins easily on a flat surface) If it does it's bulging and you need to replace the battery.
Upgraded about a month ago pure stock
Yea I got her an extra battery and one for me....none of the batteries are spinning

i don't know if my battery is died or is a rom problem, but it can't last more than 50 minutes while using my phone.
So please, give me a link to the best long battery life rom, don't really matter if GB,ICS or other thanks in advance guys
Only 50 minutes? I don't think that is normal. I don't think either it's a problem with a rom. even if you play a lot and on the internet the total time should be more than 50 minutes I believe. I think your battery just died. And if that is the case, not even a rom with a thousands tweaks will get more time than you already have

yea mate.. but i want to try another rome before buying anything..
Arcos CM9 RC2 or RC3 with it´s 2.6.35 kernel is still the best ROM for battery life. The older Slimbeam ROM with the same kernel is told to be as good as Arcos ones. Finally you can also use a customized 2.6.35 kernel with undervolting options to extend your battery life, but like ilusi0n already said there is something wrong with your phone or battery if it only lasts for 50 minutes. My battery lasts for 3-5 days under normal use.
