My Desire was connected via a USB cable to my laptop and the battery was at 100%. The battery suddenly emptied and the unit was powered off itselfs. I reconnect USB cable and charging started. Then I noticed that the SD card is not mounted "SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem error". It is interesting that the SD EXT worked without problems. After formating SD FAT partition SD worked like a charm. This happens to me a second time, first was with another rom so not suspecting that the rom caused the fault.
Does anyone know what could cause such errors.

Has anyone else had this issue?
When I fully charge my device with the power switched off, it will no longer recognise the MicroSD card. I have to manually edit a file on the card via PC, then reinstall, then it works fine.
This only happens when fully charging with the power off (eg plugged in overnight), it does not happen if the device is powered on when fully charging or when the SD card is removed prior to charging.
Now I have recognised the problem I can avoid it - but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has this issue. I don't know if it is a problem unique to my card or device.
Hi,
Did you check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4031832#post4031832
Regards,
I have seen that thread, but this is a different problem. I have had no problem with the 16Gb card in regular use - only after switching the device off and fully charging.
Cheers,
what file you edit?

Click to collapse
Just a text file in the route directory. I don't believe it makes any difference, it just seems to 'unlock' the card (somehow) so the TP2 will recognise it again.
It may not even be neccesary, it could be that just accessing the card on the PC means it works again.
Does this mean you have a similar issue?
faulty sandisk card
i enabled the burst mode from editing my registry, i took a couple of picturs now my sd card seems to disappear all the time
i am having to take card out and insert it again
any one having these problems?
Hi,
Seen various SD card problems posted here and other forums but no solutions.
A few nights ago I was transferring a large number of files to my Desire and noticed the transfer windows froze so I disconnected my phone. When I then tried to turn the screen on it wouldn't turn on (though the led kept blinking). I eventually had to restart the phone by removing the battery.
Upon restarting I got an error saying the SD card was corrupted and needed to be formatted. Tried restarting again etc but didn't work so clicked on 'format' in the pop-up but nothing happened even after several attempts. Then tried doing this through the settings menu but again didn't work.
Gave up. Wake up next morning and phone screen won't come on again. Took out battery again and still had memory card problem so connected to pc and formatted card on there. I think after this the card started working again but WITH ALL THE DATA STILL ON IT. No idea how!?
This morning after 4 days working fine I connect phone to pc to transfer music and don't get an option to mount USB so I unplugged and get a new SD card error: blank SD card. SD card blank or has unsupported file system. So tried everything I tried last time but this time I can't mount the card so I can't access it on a pc to format it.
Anyone had similar problems on here? Seems to have happened to quite a few on Android forums etc. Any suggestions? Have tried putting card in and out several times. Have tried SD mount widget. Getting pretty desperate here.

had exactly the same issue you had the second time, posted, found no fix.
Using a spare sd card I had in it's place, my phone registered it as blank again the next day! It was a reboot job though and it has been fine since..
Would like to get to the bottom of this before a blow a decent sized card
I have had many many bizzare and quite frankly random SD card errors with this phone. Nearly one everyday doing something. Most of them read the same SD card missing, needs formatting, is empty or corrupted notifications. The latest one occurred 5 mins back on reinstalling NewsRoom app -- suddenly left with a totally empty SD card when trying to save RSS to it. As in every case, an immediate reboot fixed the error so I can't offer any more help.
Whenever I've had the "needs formatting" error I removed the card for a few mins before replacing it back inand it worked fine thereafter.

I've just tried leaving the card out for a few minutes with the phone off and reinserting to no avail. Tried restarting lots of times
Going to try another SD card now. Most people on other forums had problems with their stock 4gb cards whereas mine is an 8GB card i got separately. I think it's the phone at fault not the cards.
**Update** The other SD card is working fine so far. But i'm now left with a screwed up 8gb card that's not recognised by any pc. Any suggestions of how to fix this?
If my 4gb card is screwed up by the phone too i'll let you all know
Guys. need some help here. I had some SD Card problem tonight totally out of blue.
Here is what happened. my evo was sleeping during last few hours, I tried to turn on screen by hit the power button mins ago. All buttons are lighted, but not screen. I was out of ideas but took off the battery, and reboot the evo. After reboot, there was one icon on the notification bar, "you can safely remove your sd card", I felt so strange, also, I cannot find lots of apps in the menu. I started to worry either my evo or the sd card itself.
So I had another sdcard installed into evo. Fortunately, I can mount it with usb cable, also save/delete files on that sd card. So I believe it's my original 8gb sd card problem. I m thinking to fix it by formating or so. So, by adaptor, i connected it to my pc(win7), the bad thing is my system cannot recognize the sd card, there is even no new drive showing up(i did test on another sd card, when i hooked it up with the same adaptor, new drive popping up in the my computer).
okay, guys, is there any one met such situation before? any way to diagnose and fix the issue? I do really appreciate.
A few weeks ago when running a LeeDroid custom ROM, i noticed that whenever I had HTC Sync as the default connection type in "Connect to PC" and I plug my phone in using the usb cable , the phone would Sync with my PC but it would also mount the SD card as a USB removable drive. This is not supposed to happen and should only mount the SD card if I choose "Disk Drive" as the connection type in "Connect to PC"
I then unrooted my phone due to the reboot problem and I am still having the problem above, which is a pain because i have my phone charging all day at work and have custom ringtones on my SD card which do not work when the SD card is mounted as a removable drive.
Anyone else having the same trouble?
Winamp or something similar installed?
yep Winamp
Can be solved somewhere in the settings of Winamp, has been mentioned multiple times.
thanks, got it now!
Hi guys, I need assistance!
I recently bought a Samsung Class 6 microsd card for the HTC Desire. It DEFINITELY works because when I connect it to my laptop with a microsd adapter it recognizes it just fine. However, my phone is unable to recognise the sdcard. In storage, it says 'unavailable'. I tried my old sd card in my phone and it works perfectly fine and connects to the computer via usb so it's not the phone. I'm not sure what the problem is.
I flashed the manu 2.0.5 kernel yesterday and am using cm7.1 ROM. Could that have anything to do with it? If so which kernel would you recommend for cm7.1?
Oh and I forgot to add that the NEW Samsung sd card works perfectly fine whilst I'm in recovery and it connects via USB to the computer.
I've had this problem and it seems to stem from damaged partitions.... have you been disconnecting your phone without ejecting from windows? even if all the transfers are complete and you have clicked disconnect on the phone, what if there was a write delay? anyways backup your sd card n sdext, re partition it, and copy back your files.... all should work... well it did for me anyways...
