[Q] Still on Froyo. Want to change!

Hello,
Why posting a subject that is probably already posted?
I know that this subject has been dealt with many times before, but I read a lot in the forum and I still don't know really how to make the upgrad.
Causes :
- I'm frensh so it's more difficult to me to understand and there is no such good websites in frensh langage unfortunatly.
- Also, I am a NEWBIE, so when I read HGY or FGTR, BGT, PMOO... I don't get it at all. The tutorials are full of these words-sentence, abreviations. When it's one or two i can make it, but when all the tutos are full of it, it's become hard.
- An other point is that I don't have internet connexion in my phone. I could connect it with some Wifi but difficultly. I don't know if it's really important by the way, but in many tutos, they said to take things from the google store. Can I just download all the things I need in my computer?
Now the Question :
How to move on a better version of Android?
I don't want to have the latest versions, I just want a GingerBread 2.3 version with a stable rom.

Build number: 2.22.75.3
Software number: 2.22.75.3

Yeah I think you're rooted too but we gotta see if you have a recovery installed or not to do that just turn off your phone then hold vol down + power button and then the bootloader will come. In there your phone well only work with vol up/down button and the power button so with them navigate through the menu and find "recovery" and press the pretty button to activate it. Wait for the recovery page to come if there is a recovery installed you will see it then and if not, there will be a picture trying to address the fact that there's no recovery installed on your device. If there's a recovery regardless of it version, just navigate through the android development section and download one (the how is written there but most of them work like this: download the ROM .zip file> put it in the sd card> go to recovery mode> find the option which address wiping or formatting the system partition, the bootanimation and the cache partition and format them> then find the wipe dalvik cache option and wipe it> now find the option which address installing zip from sd card> explore your sd card and select the .zip file and flash it then reboot and you're good to go)
By the way you must (in the same way).flash the latest radio first (before flashing the ROM I forgot that cuz you just have to do it once till its updated again which will never be cuz desire is outdated device for HTC)

By installing a rom for exemple like MildWild based on Oxygen 2.3.2 directly on my phone with my Froyo and my kernel unupgraded. Will I upgrade my android and kernel and every thing related?
Or should i upgrade each thnig alone?

No, greatly advanced users flash kernels separately themselves too but there's a kernel in each and every ROM you flash to your phone, btw you have a recovery installed or not?

Do you have any other things you would like to change besides your android version? Like the small internal memory for instance? Also what kind of android would you like? Something purest as possible, one with HTC Sense, or MIUI(look at screenshots in development section)?

Contacts are automatically saved if you saved them on your google account. And for saving messages I recommend SMS Backup + from the market.

I was really scared the first time I got my phone, I didn't want to crush it with these upgrades, and I waited for official upgrades. But now when I'm sure it will never happen, I want to change it myself.
Firstly, I want to move to a better version of android, because I think that it's the same way we change a Windows XP to a Windows Seven. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Otherwise, I don't know what's the better for my phone. But I just want it to be fast and pretty, with the minimum of bugs possible. And I'm ok to change my HTC Sence. I can have an upgrade version of Sense after (3.0 or 4.0) if there is no big problems and if it's also fast. But now a pure android version or a MIUI is ok.
Is there different procedures for every one of these roms?

What I meant by the small internal memory is that, by default you have like 140MB for applications. But this can be increased easily to around 280MB. I would be happy to guide you through the process. Also if you want a more pure android, I would recommend Cyanongemod 7.2(latest release candidate, I can help you with this too). I found this ROM to be very customizable, and rock solid. It's also faster then a Sense ROM. Though you might find that things will look a little different, then they do in Sense.

I would love to increase my internal memory of course!
I will also download the Cyanongemod 7.2. Should I partition my SD card for this rom? By the way my SD Card memory is 2Go :/

No not really. I mean yes you could if you really need the extra space, but it will lower performance. I say you should cross one bridge at a time.
Ok then first of all save all your data, then go into recovery and do a backup! This is very important because if something goes wrong, you can get everything back the way it was.
Next go to this site: http://alpharev.nl/ read it carefully before starting with it. If you got any questions then ask. It is very important that before you do something you understand what are you doing and why.

I have downloaded the files you gave me.
What's next?

Well first you make a backup in recovery. After that copy PB99IMG_cm7r2.zip to your the root of your sdcard and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Copy the other files as well. Then start the phone in hboot mode(power + back). You should see some installation being done.
After this enter to recovery. Select wipe data/factory reset(or the name is very similar. Then go to advanced->wipe dalvik cache(some recoveries have it in a different location). Now your phone should be clean of everything. It's time to install the new ROM.
Select install zip from sdcard, and go to the location you put the zip file to(it's named something like update-...). Wait for it to install, then do the same with the gapps zip.
After your done, you can reboot your phone. The first boot might take longer(in some cases even 15-20 mins, though this never happened to me). And there you go, you should have gingerbread. Let me know how it went.(If there are any problems don't panic, it's most likely fixable)

i'm french, live in Paris...ans use HTC desire ( 2 yrs old)...
i'm currently on ultimate Gingerbread 2.3.7 MIUI ROM namely 2.3.30 with the a2sd+ feature. (MIUI_XJ_A2SD_2.3.30_2.3.7Final_Notsigned.zip )
In addition, i use ManU 2.1 kernel plus a specific partition table from CM7_Hboot_MIUI_Mod.zip
no further development on this rom, but still one of the best.

[Q] EL29 and Updating

I'm currently running GB El29 and am looking to update. I've done a lot of reading around the forum, the wiki, and a few other websites, and I'd just like a little bit of clarification. I figure I'd ask now, before doing anything, as opposed to asking later, after something's gone wrong.
Looking at the Wiki, I was considering updating to Calkulin's E4GT 2 v1.6, or unrooting and then waiting for the Official ICS update (it was rerolled today, apparently.) Or, to Blazer, but I'm not sure if going to the ICS version or GB version is best.
My question - The process to update - Nandroid, Flash Format All, Flash Rom, Success? I've noticed a lot of installs say to "Wipe All", and I assume that's what Flashing Format All does, correct? I just don't want to mess up - I had no problems rooting, following that guide I mentioned, and I've done a lot of reading...I just want to confirm before doing anything. I mean, I know, wipe delvic and clear cache, but Format All does that, correct?
I rooted my phone using "How to Root Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch! [NEW][SPH-D710]" rom Epic4gtouchroot.com. I'd post a link, but I've fewer than 10 posts. All I've done, outside of root, is install the Beats sound files. That's really it.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in certin roms read threw the rom post to see if people have already answerd the questions you seek. Some devs request you flash different ways so read the OP in the post of the roms you are considering

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of going with. I've read over his topic several times, and even though I'm really not a fan of the transparent notification tray, most of the included mods sound really, really useful. Thanks for the heads up.
And thank you too, jugaloo. I actually have that page bookmarked on my phone lol. I've already made several nandroid backups - I plan on making a titanium backup in a moment. My only concern now is th process from going from El29 GB to E4GT 3. Rereading that thread several times has me wondering - I download the ROM, place it on the SD, boot into recovery, clear delvic and cache, run Format all, then install the ROM, correct? I already have a nandroid backup, so in case anything here goes wrong, I can just flash the backup back on, correct?

I just run the format x2 script made by ruj in the blu kuban thread. Then i follow the devs op to install. From what i see you have your feet planted and ur about to make that plunge. Id take the next step and try the flash. Id go with a different rom the the fe22 is out of date and calk has moved on. Try blu kubans rom its super stable and ita built from source. I myself like gb better.

I was thinking that - Calk's topic was updated in May, while blukuban was updated in February. I mean, I can always try both, right? I'd like to go with Calk's first, then try blukuban, only because BK is heavily themed. But either way, thanks!

I didn't realize the blukuban thread had updates outside of the OP. It was very recently updated. I might check that one out first.

Yes the blu kuban ics is always up todate and he is there for the people. If you want ics builds that are more stockish id aokp they have theming going on but is nice and stable. Read all of the op and there sites for correct install. Cm9 alpha 6 is also really good. Blazers rom is also really good. Those are all stockish built from source. For gb roms id go with either calks 3.0 or UnOfifcials ics gb rom. For me gb gives me most bang for battery and bandwith. Those last two roms are highly recomended. Calks is super fast stock with options for themes. Unofficial gb ics is themed lightly and is very good for battery and the animations are nice

Charge the bartery more. Use a wipe script dont touch the fomat that is built into the cwm while flashing a ics rom. If you use the wipe x2 script found here

U should be good. It wipes everythings even both of the caches twice. If you already have a newer nandroid id just go with that instead of making a new one everytime you flash. If possible download the roms to pc check the md5 check sums make sure they match. If they match transfer to the phone. When downloading to the phone it has a higher chance of a bad download. I try and flash at 75% battery incase of error and you have to restore a previous nandroid. If you want read this post about the eMMc bug. Most roms are safe now but some are not current.

One more thing. Qbking27 has install video guides for 90% of the roms in the threads of the rom. Id watch those before installing that rom you want. Some times they are buried in the op. You can use them as a step by step as you install. Best if luck to you and i want a report once you get your new custom rom on your phone.

I'm doing a GB build - from what I've come across, GB just gets better battery life, and I just feel more comfortable using it. At least, until the official ICS rolls out from Samsung. If that one is well received, and it's worth it, I'll unroot/wipe fresh and try it out.
That being said though, I'll use x2 then. Will it matter if I do both, just for good, measure? (Both x2 and FormatAll)
And yes, I'll be downloading to PC first, then transferring. I feel more comfortable doing it that way. I'll be doing Calk's 3.0 first, and if I don't like it, I'll try either Unofficial or BluKuban.
And once it's done charging more, and I perform the install, I'll report back, with a screenshot or two as well.

Just use the wipe x2 that does everything you need. Blu kubans gb rom is good but wifi is whacky. Id go with his ics build. Well your set good luck!

Alright so, I installed it, and all is working well. It's actually a bit...erm, slow? Whenever I swipe from screen to screen on the homepage it's a bit laggish. But it works! I'll run around with it for a little while and see how it works. I'm in the process of reinstalling my older apps, updating my contacts and such.

A little worried, to be honest. Some of the apps I'm trying to install is giving me the "Package file is invalid" error off of the Google Market. Dropbox, Amazon, etc. Not sure what to make of it, to be honest.

Try and clear the cache for the market. If your using tb try to unmount the sd card if that dont work do fresh installs off the market place . Also go into recovery and clear the cache and dalvik.

Done. I cleared both caches, and so far, all of the problems I've had with the market is gone. (Dropbox didn't install on the first try, but it did after the second.)
I've replaced the default touchwiz interface with Launcher Pro (TW was running wicked slow - loads of lag with just basic scrolling) and it seems to be running well. And it's definitely saving on battery life.)
That being said, it's not really my cup of tea. I restored my contacts and such, but eh. I think I'll try UnOfficial, and if it's not better, either go back to el29 or update to official ics.
I'll likely keep this one until tomorrow. You've been such a huge help. Thank you so much.
Actually, with launcher pro replacing it, this is pretty good. I want to mess with it more. I'll run it for a few days and see how it fairs.

Ok wait before everyone leaves, Ive got some questions too!
I just got my replacement(after a hard brick trying JB) and figure Id ask my questions in this thread rather than starting a new one..
1. Ive decided to odin EL29 EVERY TIME I want to flash a new rom, just to be safe. If I use CMW with EL29 and decide to try out CM9, Do I always need to flash a aokp kernel? Or is that built into the CM9 install?
2. If I like CM9, and want to make a nandroid backup of it, do I need to Odin back to EL29 first to back it up? Or is it safe to do it with the recovery that comes with CM9?
3. If the answer to #2 is yes, meaning I do have to odin back to EL29, how do I restore my backup? Let me explain:
Lets say I flash CM9, make a nandroid of CM9, then decide to try out say a different rom, like a TW rom. Then I hate the TW rom and wanna restore my backup of CM9. Do I need to ODIN back to EL29 to restore the nandroid? I read in the "how not to brick my..." thread its bad to restore a ICS rom from a GB Kernel. Can someone please explain?
Ive really, really tried to search and read as much as possible before asking, but a lot of the threads are old and have contradicting information. Sorry for being so noobish, but I dont wanna brick my new phone. I come from Evo, Evo3d, Hp Touchpad, etc, where there arent as many issues to flash customs roms. Ive rooted and flashed custom roms ever since the PPC6600, 100's of times and NEVER had a problem. Sorry, this just really confuses me for some reason!!!

Can't help you with CM9 or AOKP because I've never tried either one. The OP was talking about launcher pro. I highly recommend Nova launcher or Apex. They are both specifically built for ICS and look and act like stock android with great customization features.

- The notification tray in this rom (Calk 3.0) is transparent, and I'm not fond of the icons in the Notification Tray. I tried using Rom Tool Box lite to change it, but the tray won't change, no matter what I do. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried before - it just won't change.

I don't mess with rom tool box. I hear good and bad things about it. If you start at page 1080 and read to the end people post new system ui's but it may theme it a little bit. They have blazers UI in there and one other one I think. I'm not sure it is transparent or not. Or even make a post in the thread about it. I know its still active and you may find your answer. Sorry I can't really help you on this.

Virus???? Idk but phone is messed up

Ok here it goes. my network service is off so i use my droin inc for games and such. running custom rom wildstang83 IceCream Scencless 1.0. im not sure what happened to my phone but i left for 3 days and come back to my phone being totally jacked up. It wot dl apps the google play reverted back to the old market icon. wont save my passwords for google sighn in. every time i go to youtube it says to re dl the google play services. im sure other stuff is messed up too. i have tried to flash another rom but when it gets loaded back up it keeps saying process. whatever failed and there a bunch of those that loop and i have to pull battery. when i try to factory reset it says everything was formatted but when i reboot phone its the sme as it was before apps and all. So is there anyone out there who can help me with this. Sorry if i posted in the wrong place or what not. i wasnt sure where to post it cuz its kinda an advanced question but not really a question just need help.

not a virus but it does sound like your phone might have exhausted all the space in the /data folder. I had a similar thing happen to me before I rooted and fixed my phone where i exhausted the space, itt went a factory reset and put the phone into an unusable state.
i don;t know anything about the rom you are running but are rooted and have CWM installed? if so, you should be able flash a new ROM to your device, GAPPS and optionally, the low space disk fix.

Yes i do have cwm but i tried to flash a new rom via the recovery section. after i choose the zip to flash everything goes as expected untill after the reboot and it goes into the setup part where u have to put gmail password and stuff in then it basically freezes up with unlimited process failures. but i will try again. cant hurt from where it is now.

if you are not doing so already, i would wipe cache and dalvik cache after flashing the rom. that may fix the FCs.
I would also suggest you run a newer jelly bean ROM like Tiny;s 5-16 with his version of GAPPS(4-05) version plus the low space disk fix so you can maintain parity with what is the latest.
I am currently using evervolve 6-25 and it is working well for me.
the reason I say that is these newer JB roms have the ability to let you skip the activation easily. I don;t know if it was some feature of GB roms but the activation wizard in the JB roms seem to be better my opinion.

When switching to a different ROM, it is crucial to wipe /system. This can be a source of FCs. Also, if switching, it is also a good idea to do factory reset.

I just flashed another rom i used in the past by the same dev and so this is my step by step. 1. choose zip from sd. 2. factory reset. 3. wipe dalvik cache. 4. wipe cache partition. If this doesnt work i will try jb roms but i would hate to have to dump the dev that im useing. there the most stabe roms i have come across so far

what do u mean wipe /system. where do i find that. only reason i ask is cuz maybe ive never done that. but i have never had a problem withthe other 15 roms i have flashed before so thats why im so confused about what happened to my phone. all i did was shut it off and leave it home. nothing changed from my daily use before that and it was working top notch before i shut it off

im getting settings fc. youtube fc, my uploads fc, market fc, clock widget fc, internet fc, rss reader fc, htc sence fc, all those off of a fresh flash ad new sd card
Just lost my bckups that were saved on sd card so now i cant even get on it i dont get it. its not bricked but yet it i unstabe to run any rom but the preivious saved backup (now there deleted)

maybe the rom you downloaded is corrupt. worst case scenerio is that your phone is on it;s last legs.....
i would suggest you try downloading the JB rom and Gapps plus the low space fix.

what I do is flash the rom zip, gapps zip and low space zip, then wipe cache and dalvik. it probably should not make a difference but I am using TWRP as my recovery instead of CWM.

Thank u and its still not working. probably just takeing a dump on me now it is just bootlooping.

when i do a factory reset i get a wipe completed. but it says "no app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext" could that be part of the issue?? ive never noticed that before

i don;t know if switching to TWRP might help you but it might be worth a try. maybe a coincidence but the last time I had a screw up on my Dinc installing a ROM, i was using CWM. I switch right after that. I think i did read something about TWRP specifically supporting the EXT4 Low space fix.
maybe someone more knowledgable can chime in.

i will try it but it is doing the same thing on every rom i have tried to flash. ive tried 6 different roms so far and i have ran them all in the past so im incined to think its jacked. and is there a specific twrp for the different roms or can i just dl the latest version and it will work

S3 Rogers - Looking for ROM/info

I have myself a Rogers based S3, that has the stock Jelly Bean OS on it.
Its bogged down, I don't like it anymore.
I have seen the OS on the Nexus unit's and find it to be WAY better (more fluid, more options and much better UI for texting)
Now for the explanation of this thread....
I have NO idea what I'm doing anymore when it comes to this phone. It's not rooted, NO CWM installed.. And i fear i may brick it if i don't know exactly what i'm doing.
That being said, i would like to go to a stock Google OS, or something very close to it.
What are my options? I would like to try and make this as pain free as possible. As far as i can recall, rooting//cwm and Os load on my captivate was really easy... This time around, i am finding way too many "possible" ways of doing everything. I think more or less, i need to be pointed to the right way so i don't get confused.

First you need to get root. 2 easy ways here. First one is install a stock rooted ROM with Odin. Look for the Rogers image here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 Second one is to install CF-Root with Odin, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790 Make sure to get the one for I747M. Second option is faster b/c the zip is way smaller. Now you have stock root.
Next get GooManager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&hl=en. Run it, press menu and then install open recovery script or something like that. It will install TWRP custom recovery. Now you can flash ROMs. Perform Nandroid backup before commencing flashing.
For a pure Google like experience, give Slimrom or AOKP (Task650) a try. Very stable.

I'm using Task650 4.2.2. on my Rogers device and IMO it's the best out there. Never bricked my phone and smooth as butter.

Hey guys.
So i got the phone rooted, and TWRP is installed. I have a NANDROID backup already done, but i'm a little confused on the roms. Could someone help me with this?
Last i recall, the roms were a single file, Ive downloaded the AOKP JB in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684 but i'm confused on how to install the rom (as its a .zip file, there's multiple files in the folder....)

Before flashing you need to wipe. Data, system, dalvik and cache. Oh and before this put the new ROM files and anything you want to keep like pics on the external sdcard.
Do you have an updated bootloader? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
Try re downloading the AOKP ROM and flash the while thing (the .zip). Then flash the gapps. You may have a bad download the first time.
With non-touchwiz ROMs you need to install the ROM and gapps. Do not install any gapps with dandroid.

I believe i ran into the issue blindly.
I forgot to update the bootloader before flashing it. Will try again when i get home and report back with anything.

The earlier suggestions were good and not to be faulted. However there is more than one way to do most things. So if you are not happy for whatever reason here is a slightly different approach. There are some very stable custom ROMs that are very snappy and have a similar no lag, fluid feel (Google calls this "butter") to them vis a vis the Nexus. So a simple approach to that result would be:
1. Download and install the Samsung S3 V7.0 toolkit (program)
2. Start the toolkit program
Choose "n" when asked if you want to update the program
Choose your phone version. This is probably "53" for you
Choose option #1 from the main menu to install the necessary USB driver to your PC
After the driver is installed, connect your phone to your PC with the Samsung USB cable.
If your phone is currently stable, you can skip steps #3 + 4.
If you are uncertain, then steps #3 + 4 will restore a stock Rogers firmware as a starting point:
3. Go to Samsung updates and download a stock Rogers firmware
4. Install the stock firmware. This is toolkit menu option #8, 4, 2
5. Download the custom Wicked Aroma ROM v10 (main thread here)
6. Copy the Wicked Aroma ROM to your phone. You can do this in windows by going to file manager and drag and drop the Wicked file (leave it zipped) on the "Samsung Mobile MTP Device - Phone/Data" folder icon.
7. Flash the Wicked ROM from "recovery mode"
Ensure that your battery is at least 80% charged. Then turn your phone off and disconnect the USB cable
Push and hold the home button, volume up and power button at the same time until you feel the phone vibrate and see blue text on screen in the upper left hand corner. Then release the buttons.
On the onscreen phone menu, choose wipe (factory reset)
Then choose install and select the Wicked_v10. zip file
The rest of the install will be automated on your phone screen. It will ask you to select a number of options. If you are uncertain, then just leave them at the default settings. Ensure that you leave the wipe cache setting as is when asked. And I'd recommend the stock theme and stock kernel to start. The rest you can leave as is or change to what sounds attractive to you.
Note that the wicked ROM will change your boot splash screen. Most people won't care and it's not that hard to revert if you don't like the logo for some reason. This is the logo that appears for a few seconds when you first power up a phone.
This is a very snappy, pretty much zero lag and stable ROM. I think that you'd like it.

Thanks for the lengthy reply.
I tried putting the new bootloader on there, and tried re-flashing, but it did the same thing. So, in the mean time i'm going to use the Dandroid rom (didn't install the Gapps) and it seems to be working okay. I just fear a bit as the phone seems to be running much warmer then it usually does....
In the mean time, ill use this one, and see if it makes a difference (it could still be loading all my settings and whatnot, so we'll see what happens. I love the look of this rom though. Very simple, very clean. Exactly what i was looking for. Those samsung stock themes are terrible.... Thanks a bunch for the help people. Greatly appreciate it!

Personal taste varies a lot and there are a lot of themed ROMs on this site. So you should be able to find something that you like. It sounds like you want something snappy and Spartan looking. If you like your results so far, then no need to go any further.
If you end up trying the Wicked ROM, perhaps choose the Miui or Holo launcher and ASOP lock screen options.
There are an endless variety of home screen themes to be discovered. And no way to know what you might like. A few random screen shots:

Just installed the Wicked rom on my S3. NICE! Need to play with the settings a bit to get it configured the way I like, but a definite keeper.

This is a basic CyanogenMod 11 rom for the Optimus S/V. It has NOT been tested extensively and I take NO responsibility for any bricked phones, data loss or damages that occur as a result of flashing any version of this rom. It requires ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.5 or later, or TWRP 2.6.3 or later, in order to flash.

cm-11-20140116-thunderc-skinbark-sd.zip is a version of CM11 which is designed to run off your sd card.
To use this version:
1) create and format 3 ext4 partitions following the fat32 partition on your sd card (use gparted not a windows partitioning tool)
/data - at least 256 mb (512 mb or more recommended)
/system - at least 256 mb
/cache - at least 256 mb
2) format /boot in cwm
3) install cm-11-20140104-thunderc-sd.zip
4) install Skinny_4.4_Gapps-sd.zip and reboot
Known Issues (in addition to those in post #1):
formatting/backup/restore issues
possible reduced performance (older/slower sd cards)
reduced battery life (?)
Add wipe zips to a folder on your sd card and flash them from recovery to clear external /data, /system, /cache, or all three.
CWM_6.0.4.6-thunderc-sd.zip is a special version of CWM for os2sd that should only be used if you understand how it works.This version of CWM is not necessary to flash the os2sd rom. See this post for more info about recovery issues with this rom.
A Class 10 microSD card is recommended for best performance.
Power off or reboot to recovery before removing sd card.

Well the biggie right now is getting data going which is sort of difficult for me since my phone's not activated (next week I hope). I'm assuming you're not activated? I guess just general stability and performance, battery life, see what you can run on on it, put it through the wringer. All info is welcome since I really haven't had much feedback yet. It seems to be pretty stable. Let me know if you have any problems, thanks.

really works well...nice job. No chance to test 3g data yet, but everything else works very well...I had to install a keyboard manually, and the battery stats are wrong (fully charged, and stayed fully charged all day) but it is def a daily driver for me.

After a crash fest with the build at the time of my last post, this newish one is alright so far. Things get choppy fast and the input is a real pain. That is about as good as I have it. Alternate market works, wifi is good, and its chugging along.

long press home and press the three-bar onscreen button to close running apps.
also fast reboot off market is very handy to manually clear ram. heard about that one from andyopie150, like it.

Ya the main issue is just generally its a bit slow. I'm not trying to be one of those people who dog the ROM cause devs sibt human but this is just what I have experienced. I know our SOC came out when Moses was around so I'm not expecting miracles. I'm not sure if you guys have more planned or not but its really neat how efficient the phone is on 4.4 and if it was to get faster it'd be amazing.
The keyboard, can you guys adjust the size values? Its microscopic! Hacker's Keyboard fits the bill in the meantime.

For now I can just suggest the usual speed-up stuff - turn off animations, ksm, cpu/governor etc. There may be some build.prop tweaks you could use, and I'm expectiing zram support to be enabled soon. Crossbreeder might be something else to try. If we could get ART going it might help some but I don't know if that's likely. I probably won't try to tweak the stock keyboard, there's plenty of alternatives available.

tried flashing this on my optimus V and i got a error when i was flashing it, error 7 i think it was, i used the CWM you wanted us to use but it made it so that i couldnt boot into recovery.

Any information is a good thing, positive or negative. Harmonia with the Xionia kernel fairly flies speed-wise, but everything since that seems to choke my phone somewhat. And Mirage is the best Gingerbread available... but I enjoy the extra features more than the speed, which is what keeps me trying for the bleeding edge.
(example: the double-tap-hold-and-slide to zoom is built in all over 4.4, in 4.2 I only saw that in Maps.)
ART may or may not happen. I have to learn more thumb assembly to fix it. My decent class for school this session (the easy one since I did 8088 back in 1991) is x86 assembly. Doesn't apply, but maybe I can get more parallell info from it. There's lots of good info out on the net with minimal searching as well, but not much if any on downconversion of thumb2 to thumb1 code. I found enough to fix a few files but there's still more to go. I'd be impressed with myself if I got that to run.
