I have my HTC ONE X for more than 3 months now, and I've rooted and installed different ROMs right from the start. However, this problem has started just about a week or two ago.
Upon turning on the screen from sleep, or after using the device for a couple of minutes the screen turns into a total mess! It becomes completely stuttery, garbled, flickers , and basically it looks like an abstract painting. The image gets completely distorted making the phone unusable to the point I can't even restart it except with a long-press shutdown.
I've changed my Rom to a different one with a different kernel but the problem persists, so it's probably not a rom/kernel issue.
Has my hardware malfunctioned? Has anyone experienced this stuff? I'm somewhat amazed because it's worked flawlessly for some good 3 months.
I know there was a problem with flickering that HTC has addressed, but this is not just flickering, the screen becomes completely unviewable, totally garbled.
Would like to know if there's any way to deal with this aside of handing it over for repair.
Thanks!

The touchscreen just stopped working on my Tilt 2 today (stock ROM), for no reason. The phone wasn't dropped or mishandled and I hadn't added any software or changed anything in the last few weeks. When I picked it up, it was on the WinMo Start screen and I couldn't press any icons on the screen. I soft reset it using the stylus and the reset button, but the same thing happened. I did a hard reset as well, but the screen wouldn't respond.
Does anyone have any ideas? Hardware failure? AT&T is sending me a warranty replacement so I'm stuck using an old unlocked RAZR for a few days. It's pretty disappointing that such an expensive phone would just stop working.
Same thing has happened to me. It has been happening a few times lately and a reboot fixes it.
Now it seems it is permananent. I'm going to try to flash a new ROM and see if it's software related.
I had a similar problem.. although the touchscreen wasn't unresponsive, it just responded/registered touches in the wrong places!!
Sometimes after about 3-4 hours (from a reboot) it starts working normally, other times now. Tried hard reset but that didn't improve anything.
There's a slight possibility I used it in the rain a couple of times too much, so possible water damage?
The moisture detector has gone pink on the phone (a small sticker on the inside that turns from white to pink whenever detects moisure, which HTC use to refuse warranty replacements from what I've read) but that was probably pink from a long time ago anyway.
Hi I have a new one x after falling foul to the dreaded apx mode problem, I had rooted the phone and was unable to return under warranty, so I bought another One x and now after 2 months the phone is flickering, and the graphics go all smudged, on some occasion the screen fails to come on and I have to turn it on and off a few times to get it back.
Please someone tell me good news and say its a software issue, even though deep down inside I know its probably not?
I have the same exact issues. Have had the phone since July. I thought maybe I had accidentally killed the chip when I got some water on the phone a few days ago. Screen goes nuts - won't turn on sometimes ABC's have to press power repeatedly - screen sometimes unresponsive - etc. I switched ROMS and kernel hoping it wasn't hardware related but problems persist and fearing it is hardware related.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune! I know it sucks as I had similar issues with my One X which turned out to be HW. Got it fixed under warranty, but it took me two trips to the dealer and seven weeks what I discovered was that the screen worked "as normal" if I applied a slight twist or torque to the phone, probably forcing a better connection somewhere in relation with the screen. If this works for you as well, you'll have your answer
So oddly I seem to have resolved this - though I'm not entirely sure why. Recently got the JB OTA and upgraded. Problems still persisted. I randomly decided to try out the lava live wallpaper in JB and ever since (last 48 hrs) I have had 0 of the screen issues I had before. Immediately wakes when I press power - no flickering or smudging - screen always responsive.
I thought it was just coincidence but it has been 48 hrs now without a single issue when previously on ICS and then JB before using the live wallpaper I was lucky to go an hour without issues.
No idea how the live wallpaper would have any impact on the issue but I recommend giving it a shot.

Well, ive had my first HW issue today. I was using the phone as usual when the screen went funny and looked like it had "split" in two, two identical images one on top of the other. I took the battery out and put it back in and turnede the phone on and the display was flickering badly. It looked like the brightness was totally broken and was increasing and decreasing constantly. After trying to fix it i had to factory reset and i took it back to CarphoneWarehouse and got a replacement. Anyone had any experience of this? I did a Google search and noticed a similar issue with the G2. Im hoping this is just a one off and not and issue with the early devices. If it happens again im asking for my money back.
Hello , nice to meet you all. I am a new XDA user so apologies if i do any mistakes.
Yesterday, i got the 2 GB Ram variant of the LG G3 D855 from a relative. The phone almost works fine, except for two problems:
The first problem is that sometimes, the phone either locks up for about 3 seconds and shuts off (or maybe the screen shuts off? not sure), or either it completely reboots on it's own. I know, there is already information about this on the internet, however, some people say that it's a battery problem, some say it's an overheating problem. I am just confused. By the way, the issue happens no matter if the phone is charging or not. It also happens even when the phone isn't overheating, although it happens less. I may try a battery replacement, but unsure if it will fix it or not.
The second issue is, it's not really a critical issue, but it's just annoying. For some reason, especially when the phone overheats, the screen's right bottom side starts glitching (It also mostly happens on the home screen for some reason). And no, i don't mean flickering. Some glitchy lines appear at that portion of the display for about a millisecond and then goes away most of the time. Today the phone overheated when i was watching YT once and those lines appeared for like 5-10 seconds.
Also, i've noticed that the phone overheats a lot. Like, it gets quite hot sometimes.
I've already tried a factory reset, but it did not fix anything. The phone is running the stock Android Lollipop 5.0 firmware by the way. I did not want to take a risk trying to upgrade the phone to Marshmallow or install a custom ROM because of these problems.
I don't want to spend too much on the repairs of this phone since i've already got an another phone with almost the same specs as the LG G3. But i also want to use this phone. I just like it's design so much. Please tell me if it is worth getting it fixed and what i should do to get it fixed at the lowest cost possible. By the way, i don't understand much about the hardware of smartphones (I will get it repaired to an expert). So please, try to explain the problem as simple as you can do. Thank you and i wish you all a great day.
UPDATE: I've also noticed that the phone also has the screen flickering/disappearing issue.
However, asides from that, i've found an another issue too. So this evening, the phone was overheating too much so i decided to let it cool down a bit. So i closed the apps and put it into sleep mode. After about 5-10 seconds, the phone started doing REALLY LOUD tv static like noises. I immediately pulled the battery out, and i am afraid to turn on the phone because of that. I think the sound didn't come from the battery but i am still afraid.
I will bring the phone to a repair centre. But at this point, i don't know if it is worth getting it repaired. I am so confused. Is the phone dead or not? I've tried pulling the battery out and trying to boot the phne while it was getting charged (DON'T DO IT for your safety) and i get the "No battery" screen. I hope anyone that understands the hardware of this phone will help me. Thank you all.
Hi all,
Since I got the A70 I had a little issue. Sometimes the screen just stops reacting to touch. It happened once in 2-3 weeks, so to be honest I was not to bothered by it, I forced the phone to restart and that was it.
However, I recently cracked my screen and replaced it. Since I replaced the screen the same issue happens 2-3 times a day, which is very annoying. The screen reacts a little bit, but not enough to unlock the phone. When I restart the phone it works again, so it seems like a software issue.
Is this a known problem? Anything I can do?
