[Q] Part of touchscreen not working - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people!
I have an Xperia Play running on the PACman ROM. However, a part of the touchscreen on the lower right corner (around the fullstop button on the keyboard) does not work. It happens with all the ROMs I flashed - Stock, ICS, CM, MIUI, anything. Anyone having the same problem? Is there a fix for this?

Yep, your phone is broken.
Send it to sony for repair.
But to avoid problems, restore the stock system and if you have unlocked it, re-lock it. This will avoid that Sony refuses the warranty.

[Q] Xperia Play Hardware

Hello,
Recently my phone get stuck a lot, when i am chatting via whatsapp for 5 min,
I am getting an the error messege that we all know ("[Force close] [Wait]"),
and the notifications bar disappear,
and then the only thing i can do is to lock and unlock him,
and if i want to do something, i have to reboot him.
i have tried lots of ROMs, and it's still kept happening.
so i think that thi is a hardware problem.
currently i know nothing about the phone hardware, there is anything that i can do alone, or buy new hardware and install it by my self ?
or i should send it for fix by professionals?
thanks
Anyone ?

Try flashing stock ftf then you'll know for sure if its a software issue brcause that should solve any software issues

It's probably cheaper, but if you mess it up, you're screwed.
Have you tried different kernels? Maybe start with Dommkernel for GB which is know to be very stable.
Still sounds like its more likely to be a software issue.
If not then i am not sure what you need to replace or if there are any replacement-parts for it.
I am currently using DooMKerneL and AuroraPlay.
yesterday, i have locked the phone, and i tried to power on the screen and the screen, was off for an hour and half, so i am pretty sure it's a hardware problem.
the issue is that i dont know what part of the hardware i need to replace.
my thoughts it may be the power button and the CPU or chipset,
are they easy to replace and where i can buy them or even better parts that will upgrade the perfomance of the phone ?
i have tried to flash the stock rom via fllashtool, and the problem with the screen kept happening.
can someone tell me what is the problem and how i can solve it ?
Thanks for trying helping me
I wouldn't waste your money on a power button, that's not the problem. Also, I don't really think you can upgrade the phone. It'd require other drivers & stuff. You can find parts here. Got the link in this thread.
There might be a guide here.

Problem after updating to JB .211 and rooting.

A few days after updating my Xperia s from JB.200 to JB 211 and rooting it with Doomlord's rooting kit my touchscreen stopped reacting. It was showing perfectly and I was able to use the phone with MyPhoneExplorer. I also did the following check:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025736&page=2
and it showed the screen is OK so the problem is in the software.
Had to take it to the shop for repair

If it was a software problem then a simple re flash was enough.

aww sad problem. But what is your question exactly? You returned it to the shop, so we can't help you anymore.
Next time try reflashing the ROM (.211) using flashtool

Well actually the purpose of this thread was to warn other fellow members of such a problem.
As for your advice, I did flash it twice, once flashing it again to 211 anda second time "downgrading" back to .200, both didn't fix the bug.
Did you wiped everything before flashing ?

Now that you mention it I did UNMARK the data, catch and apsslog hoping I wont need to strat from scratch. could it be that the bug was hiding somewhere in them?
Another solution I encounterd was this:
This is a common problem with many touch screen phones. There are about three reasons this can happen that I know of:
1. Hardware issue. Needs to go in for repair. Hopefully under warranty still.
2. Needs to be re-flashed with the OEM ROM. This is not likely, since you've already Hard Reset, but worth a try.
3. The EASIEST and FIRST thing to check is to run a 'business card' around the edge of the screen between the case and screen. Dirt or other objects can easily get wedged into that area and hold the screen pressed down. This would prevent a press from any other area of the screen. Also, a screen protector that has shifted might cause this. Hopefully this is it, as it's a simple fix!

Always do a fresh clean flashing of rom. That will eliminate all the hidden bugs.

The problem with this suggestion is that the Xperia S, like the vast majority of modern smartphones, uses a capacitative touchscreen which does not operate by detecting physical displacements of the screen surface. If it did then people wouldn't have problems using touchscreen phones wearing cloves and such like. Older style resistive touchscreens did work that way, but they're not widely used in smartphones any more and certainly not in the Xperia S. So while the advice offered might actually be effective, it can't be for the reason stated.

Phantom or Ghost Touch Screen LG Optimus G

Few days earlier I started to notice this problem after 5 months of use of my device. My screen starts rapidly shaking left to right and front touch panel stop working, it happen when I freshly open an apps. To temporarily fixed it, I have to press power button to turn off the screen. Is it a hardware or software problem?
Did you flashed any rom or kernel?
Do you use trickster?
Some people sayed that uninstalling trickster solved their ghost touches on the keyboard (may not work in your case).
I had a similar problem and was because of a kernel.
If you had modified anything try to use stock for a while and see if the problem persist

Stock, I guess I should wait for official kitkat. Dont have time thinkering my fone atm.
I was ghosts touches on my screen. One was pressed on all sides. To fix it I had to turn off and turn on the screen. I decided to change the touchscreen and the problem was fixed. Now it works ok.
Sorry my english.

I bought it on ebay. Screen+touch+ frame. This option:
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=111278902215
But You can buy other options.
1. Touch + screen+ frame (medium dificult)
2. Touch + screen without frame (best option)
3. Only touch screen. (very dificult option)
Many people have told me that the best option is 2, without frame to not be taking off parts that are originally attached to the frame.
You can see totorials on youtube
Ghost Touch now keeps rapidly pulsing at the buttom edge of my screen (portrait) my phone is sometimes uncontrollable. I never thought this kind of newer high end device gets broken so easily under short period of time. I never experienced this from my good old Galaxy Y, Xperia mini and X8 that I accidentally deep under water even now still working in mint condition. So sad with LG products. I was planning to buy LG G Pad but because of this I probably get Nexus 7 instead.
Im going to sell this for $155
Reflash it again with stock firmware twice, problem still persist
Its now a hardware issue
Touch screen seems deteriorating overtime. At first Ghost Touch, then on the next day a dead touch portion just above the home screen panel where the ghost touch first occurred rapidly moving back and then after few days a ghost touch appeared again just below in the middle of the screen (portrait) then after an hour probably about 1.5mm size thickness dead touch. Now a I have 2 horizontal dead touch portion of my screen and probably more to come if I keep using it.
Few days ago i'v got first phaton/ghost touch problem. I used Omni 4.4.4 so

Please, can you post the link from the exact same rom?
I've got so many ghost touches on an exact same point my screen (I posted that on another thread on this board) that made me got another phone, typing was impossible (the touches were on the left-down corner, right on swiftkey settings -_- )...I've tried many many roms, but nothing worked yet...
Thank you a lot!

OK, this is freakin' weird...
I have been running KitKat on my F180S pretty much from the time it got released (different versions: full stock, VDT, Sling...). Yesterday, out of the blue, my digitizer started getting crazy with ghost touches in the upper portion of the screen (around the strip where Q-slide apps usually are in the notification shade, or the clock area on a weather widget where most people have it). This made the phone 100% unusable, as it was constantly registering touches. Rebooted to recovery to do a factory reset, and the problem was persistent in the recovery, too (I am using PhilZ Touch). So, at that point it looked like a hardware issue to me. To clear my consciousness, I opened the phone, disconnected the digitizer, cleaned the connectors, plugged it in again. No dice. Still, I thought about reflashing a full stock KDZ, just for the heck of it (no root, no custom recovery, locked BL). Here is what happened:
1. F180S V30c KitKat - same problem.
2. F180S V30b KitKat (downgraded a notch) - same problem.
3. F180S V20n Jelly Bean - everything is working fine, no ghost touches. Huh?!?
4. Rooted V20n, unlocked BL (Mako method) and flashed CWM using FreeGee - no problem, everything is still OK.
5. Flashed my favourite JB ROM - no problem, everything is still OK.
So, the phone is now running on rooted JB, with unlocked BL and CWM recovery, with no touchscreen problems whatsoever. I may try going to KK again at some point, but will just leave it for now, as I need a stable working phone.
WTF??? I am just scratching my head, trying to understand where the issue came from. It appears to be directly related to KitKat, since eliminating unlocked BL and custom recovery didn't solve the issue, but going back to JB (either full stock, or unlocked BL with CWM) totally cured it. The most bizarre thing is that it started out of nowhere, as I didn't do anything to my phone recently, apart from installing some apps here and there...

Yeah... But at least in your case the problem seems to be consistent. I was using my phone without any issues, and then it just crapped out for no apparent reason. Nothing changed, same ROM that was working fine before...

It started the same way for me.
....
The same thing happened to me. Are you guys familiar with Sky Vega phones? I had a Vega Iron before and also it began having ghost touch issues after upgrading to kitkat. I was frustrated, i also flashed any custom rom i could search and no luck at all. I just sold it recently! and i heard this ghost touch issue is also a common on Nexus 4.

Hello everybody,
I have the same problem with my LG - ghost touch and dead zones on the display. First installed the ROM from this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/opti...te-10-t2811342 , but the issue still exist.
Then change the display with a new one. Dead zones vanished but ghost touch doesn't. Tried some other ROMs even the original stock ROM.
When I installed the new display the ghost touch is mostly when I use Facebook Messenger.
What can I do in this situation?

Hardware buttons not working?

My hardware buttons on the bottom, back home and menu have quit working. I have a hairline crack on the bottom right, but has been working fine with it on there. I flashed the AOSB rom but, i wouldn't think it has anything to do with it not working?
my question, and I believe I know the answer, would flashing back to stock in any way work to fix this problem?

It sounds like it is mechanically broken to me. Can't say for sure, but when a symptom like that appears after mechanical damage, there is a significant possibility that the two are related.

It's entirely possible that the malfunction happened some time after the ''crack''. (Due to using the device while it is damaged) If you haven't already, you can try going back to stock rom. If the buttons still don't respond, it's unfortunately an hardware issue.

[Q] Touch screen erratic after installing wrong pxz2

Hi. I installed the wrong version of PureXperiaZ2 rom, then after that, the touch screen became erratic. There are some points that work whenever I touch it, and on other parts, its reversed. I installed back the custom rom, then the right PXZ2 rom, but still, the touch screen is erratic. Is there any way to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

i m having the same problem i booted with a wrong recovery.img
the service center says 6500 for replacing the touch screen
dont know willhave to put a duplicate one
a little different than what you expect!
if the Service centre guy finds it a touch issue then it is a hardware issue
as the recovery image is just for changing software or ROMS it can rarely affect a device touch .and it might be possible that you may not find a duplicate touch for the device !
I found dulpicate one after searching a lot they are changing it for 1500!!
Thanks for the reply
