System apps - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I always remove apps from roms i dont use with estrongs. It makes a backup of the app that you remove. I have always been able to copy the backup and paste it back to system/app if i needed it back. Well lately on jb lj7 that has not been working. Is tb a better solution or is there a step in the process i am missing?

I use TB to freeze my system apks, rather than uninstall them. If I want/need them at a later time I just unfreeze.

I've found ROM toolbox to be very useful. Even better than TB in my opinion. You have to buy the pro version to freeze apps but it will be the one app you can't live without

[APP REMOVAL] Sock app's safe to remove

I want to make a list of app that are safe to remove from the stock rom. So please everyone chime in and Ill update the op as results come in. Since there is no stock tar available this list will be good to have so we dont go to far removing app. As always you should have made a backup in CWM should any issues arise.
Here is a useful app to help remove and restore app's in system/app

[Q] Best System App Remover?

Hey guys.
Picked up a XP from Verizon yesterday, rooted it, and I'm getting things set up for myself now. My question is this: what's the best app for removing system/stock apps that can also easily restore them if desired? I used SDX Stock App Remover on my Epic 4g, but I know better than to dive in with a new device without investigating first.
I know TB can remove stock apps, but in my past experience, it can't always restore them, which I'd like the option to do in case I want to play Bruce Lee's Flying Circus again for some crazy reason.
Thanks in advance guys
If you backup the system app, TB can restore it too. Works perfectly if you're using the same rom that you backed them up from
You! Your the best system app remover. just use a root enabled file manager. After you delete an app from /system/ remeber to wipe the dalvik cache, this will remove unwanted .dex files.

Stock ICS Email client

Hello All I recently updates my Galaxy S2 to ICS, but the email client that comes with touch wiz is very bad. Anyone know where I can download the Stock ICS email client that will work on a non-rooted phone?
I believe you need to be rooted to uninstall the stock email cliend and install the ICS version.
I also had troubles with the stock client but after I found the ICS version everything is fine ... except that its not themed to the S2 way but is white as the gmail client. Do a search here.
Good luck

Put those two files in system/app with any root explorer (like Root Explorer -the free version will do). restart the phone, should it work -hit thank you -will be my first
Dont remember who to credit for the files myself, got them some time ago.

Thanks For the files, I have copied them to system /app and it asks me to overwrite it, but after reboot and when I go back to check it is still the old email app, any hints or tips would help, thanks.
K, what I can do is post backups of the mail app from my titanium backup. You have to get the app, and put the file in titanium folder, then restore the app as if you had backed it up yourself.
The galaxy is home, and i,m not now, so it,ll be a few hours. K

Thanks for the help, I was able to finally copy it to the system folder, was an option that needed to checked in the file manager. Now every time I try to open email it crashes and the phone takes a long time to boot, had to go back the Samsung app. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
ok, try this -I got a titanium backup of Email 4.0 as it's called on ICS gallaxy s2.
It's backed up just before uninstall right after a new ICS flash -should be good.
1. If you don't have it yet, get titanium backup free from market.
2. In titanium backup uninstall your email app -dont back up (or back up, and then remove from titanium backup folder).
3. Put the 4 attached files in titanium backup folder
4. In titanium, restore the email app
5. See what happenes
Visit the Wanamlite site. Wanam posted a flashable zip of the stock email client that seems to work with any stock deodexed and rooted ROM (it worked on my stock deodexed DXLP7 and DXLPQ).
Be careful, though. After doing this, I noticed that if you try installing themes like Vertumus', the theme doesn't take properly and while you won't get boot loops, you'll have multiple FC issues afterwards.
I haven't looked but I have an inkling that the framework that Vertumus modifies is the stock sammy email client and not the Google one and so when you install his theme it tries to modify the Google client (since it's replaced the stock sammy one) and that's what's causing the issues.
Well, would,n it be more sensible first to try the titanium backups or the original, freshly installed, not tampered with app?

It conflicts with the stock app without any tweaks.

[Q] New to root - basic questions - need suggestions | Canadian Rogers GS3

Hello everyone,
I've been using android for about 3.5 years now and finally decided to root my phone and make it more customizable. Pretty frustrated w/ preloaded apps and the slowness of my device. I did use helium, tasker etc. and customized the theme of my phone using Nova, icon theme --- now I am ready to look beyond.
I'm trying to install CyanogenMod (can anyone suggest a good guide or should I wait for the app?) - what is superuser? - already bought Franco Kernel (good decision? or should have bought setCPU?) - what is the purpose of BusyBox? should I get ROM Toolbox Pro/ROM Manager - is it worth buying Titanium Backup Pro if you already have/use helium? Is there any other app I should consider looking? Something that is fast, clean, and customizable - trying for a futuristic look.
I have read
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910124
I want to search for stuff but don't know what to search for as I have less knowledge about it - I would appreciate if you direct me to specific threads/links. I tried broadening my search on google and it hasn't helped much. I'm more of a visual & kinesthetic learner.
Thank for you help. :good:
(I love to support developers who promotes a positive user experience so buying isnt a problem - only when an app serves my purpose)
Here are a couple links to start with. I haven't read through these links thoroughly but they will give you the general idea. You don't need to buy a bunch of root apps, just try some free ones first and see if you like them. Each rom thread should have install instructions at the original post. Make sure you have a rom file and or backup of your system on your sdcard at all times.

Most important thing before installing roms/modifying your system is to
A) make sure you have a custom recovery installed like team win recovery (twrp)
B) you have made a backup in your custom recovery of your stock rooted system
C) (optional) you have copied the twrp folder (which contains your system backup) from your sd card to your computer for safe keeping
D) do not wipe (erase) any unnecessary things when you are in custom recovery.
Be careful with titanium backup. It tends to corrupt data. If a rom isn't running smoothly and you restored a lot of items with titanium backup, it's probably titanium backup causing issues. Its really better to just reinstall apps fresh from google play when you install a new rom.
Greenify is a really good root only app and so is Trickster MOD for handling CPU levels, governers, schedulers, etc. If your only on lets say, rooted on 4.1.2 stock, the app Quick Boot is essential for rebooting into recovery and download mode without having to mash on your buttons all the time.

Thanks a lot. I'll keep these in mind.

Backing up Apps and Settings

hi
Can somebody tell me what's the best way to backup apps and settings when moving from one rom to another,
Thanks
Download Titanium Backup.
It depends. If you're coming from 4.1.2 ROM... and going to 4.3... Titanium Backup will have issues because they changed things on where/how files are stored in 4.3... but I think there is a fix for TB somewhere.
PS
Never backup system data if you're updating to a new ROM. It messes things up. Just use the Backup new user apps & newer versions.

There are two useful application which almost supports all custom ROMs.
1. ROM ToolBox Pro (Which might have special features including Accounts, Call Log, Contacts and so available with pro app)
2. My Backup Pro (It also have most of facilities but have comusion/requrement of externel app).
I would recommend Helium, because titanium Backup doesn't work properly from Rom to Rom.

I used Titanium when I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 and it all worked well. Use Titanium for all user apps and data. All system stuff will be automatically restored from Google Play (i.e. Contacts and Apps, Wifi access points) the only thing you need to backup extra is SMSes. You can do this from Titanium (export to XML).
