[Q] 64GB MicroSD Card? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Just a quick question, I'm running out of space for music on my 16GB card, so I'm planning on buying a higher capacity one...
32GB would do, I know THAT's supported, but I'm not sure about 64GB. The extra $$$ would be worth it because I get new music every day, and that would last a longer time...
On the Samsung website it says officially it supports only 32GB, but I think I read somewhere that 64 has worked for some people. Can I get some confirmation that it works/does not work?
Thanks!

Give that a read..

God damn XDA is amazing, a reply before 15 minutes has passed
I think I'll just play it safe and get a 32GB, I know it works but it doesn't seem as safe as just going with a 32. Plus, I just realised, the day I end up with 32GB of music is the day phones are paper-thin and have TBs of storage

Wow I would love to buy one of those but am saving up for the new HTC phablet that's coming out during fall and I wanna get a new PC this weekend. If I had any extra money I would buy it. I am currently using a 32gb SD card and only ran out of memory once. I guess if i had the 64gb I would never have to worry about running out of memory. Oh well. Thanks for sharing this deal with us.

I had a 64gb in my Thunderbolt and it worked just fine... but got rid of it since I wasn't using nearly the 32gb card. I kinda wish I still had it though.
Got the card today, popped it into my Thunderbolt (running the ICS leak) and it formatted to full capacity instantly. Very happy with it!

Does anyone know if the new 128GB SanDisk Extreme SDXC Class 10 works with the Galaxy S3?
They're selling them at Amazon and I was wondering if it worked with the S3 before I bought it.

I have 8gb of music on my phone currently, and about 250gb of movies on my external HDD with 400gb of TV series on top of that. Of course I don't watch all of these, they're mostly there just for collection, but there are some series that I do like watching in my spare time and the more options the better, right? I also want some spare memory space just in case I want to record video on my phone too. I was thinking about getting the 64GB SDXC but if the 128GB version works I will definitely be buying that.
now don't quote me on this, though it should work - I don't see why it wouldn't, since the S3 supports SDXC (and the 128GB is SDXC).

Most likely.. But we won't see a card that big this year.. And when it is released you are probably looking at close to 100 price tag.

From my understanding, the galaxy s 3 only supports the micro sd sdxc up to 64gb.
But you never know it might just work.
Though, than again, there might be a reason why samsung capped it at 64. Maybe above that, it's
easier for data to be lost and or corrupt? (Just speculation and not a fact)

The term sdxc means extended capacity and has nothing to do with the physical size of the card itself.
Sdxc can be in sd size (think cameras), micro sd(our phones) and mini sd (not really used anymore)
I think the xc would start at 32gb and up. So anything 32gb or higher would be sdxc
For your phone you want a microsd.. Weather a sd, sdhc or sdxc.
As long as it's a microsd....
Google images for it so you can see what the card should look like.

Not sure if that was a hidden dart of sarcasim, but I was obviously refering to when the 128gb micro sd card becomes available as I know they aren't yet.
My guess is the phone manufactures do set limits on paper but actually have their devices capable and ready to accept (such as in this case) bigger sd cards.
I've seen this before, for example, the GALAXY SII micro sd memory acceptance was capped at a max of 32gb, but in reality was and is able to accept a 64gb micro sd card!
Well, I hope that when the 128gb micro sd card is finally released (which is just around the corner) it'll work with the GS3.
A guy can dream-----eh (*_*)
Android itself supports up to 2tb, the limitation is the sd card hardware, on cheap phones they only work with max. 16 for example.
Send from my GT-I9300 with Tapatalk
most limits (in the same hardware/tech class) are limits of TESTING not limits of COMPATIBILITY
a long time ago they designed for specific sizes but now a days they design for "class" of tech.
ie Fat16 is limited to fat 16 fat 32 is limited to fat 32 etc.. etc..
SO as long as its SDXC in theory it "should" work unless they for some reason Coded in a limit (not likely)
they say 64gb because that is what they could "test" at the time that they made the unit.
sorry

SD Card purchases

Ok so im finally getting the itch to flash non TW based roms but need to buy a bigger SD card beforehand. Have heard that 64g cards have compatibility issues thus far (primarily thanks to Microsoft proprietary nonsense) with the GNII so was wondering if I should just save a few bucks and get a 32gig? or if there was a direct set of guidelines to use a 64g with lets say CM10.1?
Once I get the new SD card, whats the proper way to format, setup ExtSDtoIntSD, backup/restore original (madmacks?), etc..
I know im asking for a lengthy all in one response but I will reward anyone who can cover all the bases for me as I havent done anything remotely as turbulent as this and dont want to experience similar issues that others have reported

get either just make it class 10 and stay away from scan disk they seem to go bad all the time.
Just buy a 64gb one and format it to Fat and you are good to go. Ext format is troublesome with some roms. I never had any problem with Fat formatted cards. I run tw roms, cm 10, cm 10.1 no problem

Do you mean SanDisk? Out of all of the memory cards that I have bought those are the ones that have lasted for me, maybe its just bad luck or something. I have a 16gb SanDisk card last through 4 phones and its now in my 3ds. I'm currently running a 64gb SanDisk card in my note 2 and it works perfectly.
The 64gb sandisk sucks. Mine is 2 months old and it died waited 2 weeks for replacement . Out of the box it was bad not have to wait another 2 weeks to get replacement. I will never ever buy from that crap company.

On the contrary, my 64GB class 10 Sandisk, which I picked up from Radio Shack for $39.99, is working perfectly. I simply threw it in the phone, and loaded it up, with zero issues.
Just spent about a month away from any data connection, and all the TV shows and movies I loaded up on my phone were the lifesaver of my trip. I couldn't recommend a 64GB Sandisk more!

32GB Samsung C10 is around $20ish and well worth it. Ive been using the same one for years and thats why I love phones w/ card slots. Switching devices isnt a nightmare when everythings saved to your card.

Nothing is wrong with a 32gb class 4, but do you really want to bottle neck your 600-700$ s4 to 1mbps write speeds when it can record around 17mbps? It'll only cost around 20 something bucks for class 10, by no means a priority in anyone's life but in the case of this Particular user looking to purchase, if he has the spare cash I advise him to a class 10 32gb.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
I also recommend 32GB class 10.
You will need it also for shooting full hd videos.
I too have a Sandisk Ultra 32 GB class 10 I got on sale for $30 ($50 off MSRP) at a local office supply store last minute before a vacation. Since I bought it, I have seen it cheaper online, but I didn't really have time to wait. I had just upgraded from an 8 GB class 4 that I have been using for about 3 phones now. The new card also came with another SD adapter so I can put the card into the reader on my laptop. I already had one adapter from my old card, but having two is nice when transferring files between two cards.
I have a little boy so I am always taking pictures and videos of stuff he is doing or funny faces he makes, and I can tell you first hand that moving pictures and videos around into different folders in the gallery is WAY faster now. I also have a photo frame widget on my home screen that cycles through some pictures, and on reboot, the photos populate the frame sometimes before the stock clock widget even comes up. I can only imagine if apps are running from the SD card that would be massively improved too.
I've been using the Samsung Ultra 64gb card since day 1 & it's been working flawlessly.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
I use a 64GB Samsung Pro(no such thing as Ultra^). Don't beelieve the advertised speed of 70/30, I get R/W: ~18.26MB/13.17MB. The SanDisk 64GB and 32GB models had production problems with a some bad batches, so it's up to you if you want to risk getting old stock from a store that might be bad. Other than that, just remember to get Class 10 UHS-1. Apparently AOSP doesn't support ExFat so you'll have to format it to Fat32 if you want to use that.
One reason to use 32GB would be for the supposedly higher speeds available such as the SanDisk Extreme variant which is twice as expensive. Don't believe the advertised 80/50 either.
There is a 64 GB Ultra: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Micro...&qid=1374727504&sr=8-1&keywords=sandisk+64+gb

SanDisk* not Samsung like he posted. That Ultra is also slower than the Samsung Pro. The SanDisk Extreme might be a tad faster but don't believe the 80/50 claims.
Is you must get the 64gb I recommend class 10. Fastest write/read speed. If not, you can buy maybe a class 6. Hope I helped.

Help: SD Card Question

Would this SD card be overkill? I plan on shooting 4k videos or high quality videos and pictures with this phone.

I'm coming from an iPhone 5s - so i'm a little clueless when it comes to SD cards and mobile devices.
I have a similar class 10 and it does the job fine. Haven't seen any problems, although I haven't shot much video.
When I was shopping around, I couldn't find anything below class 10 that was a worthwhile cost saving without going for a unbranded card that I wouldn't risk buying.

I picked up a 32gb but that's because my aim is to save a lot of music on it, not the much more storage-greedy 4k videos. I'd say you'll be just fine.
TBH I kinda want to pick up a 128 because why not.
I am using a Class 10 32GB that I no longer use with my GoPro, I used 16GB for years and never had an issue.
