You've probably found your way here because you're trying to use an unlock code that you got from AT&T or an EBay seller, but the phone is refusing to take it, despite your triple-checking of details.
The workaround is this: Enter the incorrect code until you run out of your ten (10) attempts. Then you'll get the *real* network unlock message, with 32 attempts. Enter the same 8-digit code you've been entering, and voila, you're now free to use this on any network!
Attached is a video showing proof of unlocking using this method (sorry for the blurriness and quick cut at the end--was too excited that this unlocking ordeal is over):

Please rep/sticky! I don't care about karma/rep here. Just want to share this helpful hint with everyone. I've spent maybe 12 hours researching fixes and workarounds, and just dove right in to using up my unlock attempts.
Thanks!!! It worked for me. I was nervous, but I figured the worst case is I return the phone.
I was able to unlock two different Lumia 900s with this method.
Thank you very much :fingers-crossed:
good news. I had same issue. I tried 4 times then I stopped. Now I need call AT&T again to get the unlock code because I threw it away.

Thank you very much this method does work, this is how i unlocked my phone. Nobody else couldn't help me at AT&T. This is why i love our community here at xda developers. and thanks to Breex243 for finding this method, i'm sure this will help a lot of people from this point on.
Verified! It worked like charms. Credit to minhtien, Breex243.

Thank you - this worked perfectly for me. Used up all my initial attempts, and the phone immediately said "32 attempts remaining". Then got it on the first try with the ATT provided code.
What if I can't even receive any code from AT&T or third-party? (they say the unlock code for my phone's imei number is not their system) Would it work with any 8 digit number?
Here is my imei number: 359746040748761 I've tried getting the code from AT&T and three different sellers on ebay, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
It does work!

Hi Diego, it might be that your device was indeed blacklisted/was tied to a non-paying account. You'll need the specific 8-digit unlock code.
Got the unlock code from AT&T and kept saying "Incorrect PIN" so I did get scared. Once I saw this post, I bit the bullet and used up all my attempts until it finally asked for the PUK code. Put in the same unlock code one more time and it worked.
Verified with Smart micro-SIM card from the Philippines and works great.
Thanks!

Wouldn't AT&T let me know if it was blacklisted or tied to a non-paying account when I called them for the code? That may be the case though, since I bought it used from Ebay.
Thankyou!!

Awesome! Thanks for the post. I had bought my wife a lumia and I was getting desperate!
Kudos!
Awesome
I have been struggling with AT&T to fix this issue. But, this form helped and made my day. Thanks a ton. Thanks to the blog GSM, who redirected me here.
Worked for me also.. thanks alot... entered 10 times and then on the PUK screen..thanks heaps!
I got the phone from ebay. It was loaked to AT&T and after talking to the guys there I got the unlock code from them. I double thriple checked the unlock code and entered 4 times which indicated as incorrect pin. I'm not in USA, so no point of having a locked phone which could not be used here.
Please help.....
Finaly I've got my phone unlocked thanks to xda... I had already used 5 attempts but goving the fact that no point of keeping the phone locked which could not be used in my country, I've tried the balance attempts and then the phone asked for the PUK code. I've entered the same code..
It worked.... Thanks a lot.. I can assure you that, if you have got the code verified from AT&T and other third party places what they have given you is the PUK code..
It works...It works... I'm over the moon..

Wut. Why would you use all of those attempts when the instructions are to only use the 1st 10? You should have sought out assistance when the code didn't work the first time with your 32 attempts. Anyone know how to help this guy out?
Okay here is my issue:
I tried unlocking without a non att sim card but whenever i put the code in i get "Connection problem or invalid mmi code"
Then i went to t-mobile and borrowed a sim card: i put the unlock code in and it says invalid, i triple checked the code and it isnt. Please help!

Hey where did you get the unlock code?
I unlock a lot of Galaxy S3's locked to various networks
I order my codes from cellunlocker
I had great satisfaction from them so I am referring them to you in case you need better codes
Also I run a business in unlocking as well so ask me and I can help you out too
To your issue, if you typed a code in (I.E. *#7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#) It wont work on our devices, due to the chipset or modem
You gotta go the main route of inserting a NON accepted SIM card
In this case we gotta rely on correct UNLOCKING codes
And I am pretty sure cellunl ocker.net will provide that to you
Hope this helped

Well I got mine from someone on ebay who is relible from feedback.. I asked him to double check the code waiting for a reply, and cellunlocker is very expensive ..
I will have to i guess though, it should definitley work if i have a t-mobile sim in right? and put tht code in because when i put it in it kept saying invalid code.. and it said something about a freeze or something i think.. should i be worried?

I just talked to AT&T the code they gave me is the same as the one I. Bought. Why isn't it working"
i would double check the imei number.
*#06# gives you the same as whats behind the battery and double check thats the imei number used to get your code.
freeze thing is bad... if you enter the wrong unlock code to many times you will need a unfreeze code from what i understand.
Hey guys
Just a couple of months ago I got my lumia 900 as a gift.. However it was AT&T SIM Locked.
Checking through some forums and combing through the internet I found out that the PIN Code given by AT&T sometimes didn't work when requested for the PIN code but instead when PUK Code was asked.
I must sadly say, I tried using my given pin code for my PUK including my current network's simPUK code but all failed.
Now I have no attempts and I cannot seem to enter the PIN Code given not even the PUK code..
Can someone please let me know a simpler way to unlock this phone? I have software flashed numerous times but the PUK or PIN code isn't resetting.. Please do let me know!
Thank you so very much.

Yes, i have same problem. Any one success?
So I got my hands a new Nexus 5X from an EE retail store in UK, although I'm happy to use EE for everyday use there are times when I travel and need to swap SIMs due to black spots. Much to my horror and bemusement I discovered that my brand new 5X is indeed network locked, so there's that myth put to bed for non believers.
I have requested an unlock code from the network, unfortunately patience is not one of my strong points, does anyone know of any sites that offer an unlock for the 5X? I tried one this morning but it came back 'no code found'. If anyone knows of a site that can help, I'd appreciate a PM with the details.
Thanks.
For what is worth, I also got, from. my local carrier a brand new Nexus 5X. LG H790. Well, it turns out to be Network locked as well. Whenever the phone is turned on with the SIM in of another carrier it asks for: "SIM Network Unlock PIN"
I went on and bought online from two different companies sim unlock codes, from the first company: SimUnlock dot com was not able to found a code and after a few days, said so snd proceed to reimburse me.The second company: MasterUnlock dot com did return, very quickly (fte minutes after online purchase) a few codes, named
NCK NSCK SPCK CPCK SIMCK, tried the NCK and the SPCK as per the instructions received but none worked "unlock unsucessful", seems they are also reimbursing me.
So, I dont know whats next, as the carrier wont give out the unlock codes.
My Nexus 5X is locked to Mexico's carrier Telcel.
I have just had this exact same issue (EE UK). I didn't realise this was now a thing! I honestly thought these companies had grown up by now. but apparently not.
Has anyone come across a solution to these? If not, does anyone know if these codes are carrier specific and individual, or generic?
I'd appreciate any info anyone has on this as it's a new thing to me!

Before I state my problem I will say I am an idiot but hope that someone will forgive me and help me.
I was going through the security aspect of my phone when I came across "putting a PIN number for your SIM card. I did as asked and put a 4 digit number then my phone went off and when it came back on it asks for a PUK number (8 digits). I've not got a clue what a PUK no is for and all I want to do is get my phone back to normal.
Any help would be appreciated please for this idiot to get his phone working again. Thanks.

I did something like this before a long time ago but I had to call the actual phone manufacturer which was Nokia to get the code...
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
That's Personal Unlocking Code and you can find it at the card that was attached to your SIM card.
u probably put in your pin wrong .three times. so get out that numbers came with your sim card. One should be PUK another One PUK2
Thanks for your replies but unfortunately I've long lost the package that came with the SIM card. I will have to phone my network up (EE) and get it.
