for cm10 you need to unlock your bootloader to flash fxp/cm10/aokp kernels.
if u cannot unlock it due to warranty issues try out other ICS custom roms in dev section which support locked bootloader.
many of them have features of ICS-JB combined .
Sony devices have no recovery partition, so you can't install a recovery on the normal way. If you want to stay on gingerbread, install DoomKernel v22, so you automatically get a recovery

Incorrect - flashing a kernel requires a unlocked bootloader end of. Now for the installation of CWM on locked bootloader, it can be installed to the system partition and booted from there, you could use this application to install the required for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840.

Thank you, but I know it. I told that CWM maybe will be released in the future for locked bootloaders, so we will be allowed to flash custom kernels, sorry for my poor english

I have an Xperia Pro with locked bootloader...
You can install CWM through x-parts, from playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwyLDIxMiwiY29tLnB2eS5DV01pbnN0YWxlciJd
Or using RecoveryX:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
Both methods will be deleted if you wipe system partition... which you'll pretty much do when flashing a zip rom.
there are good Roms out there for locked bootloaders... I've tried these 3 and they are great!.

Greetings
I'm new to the Xperia play scene, i have one, version R800i and i acquire some help from anyone experienced in this.
I have been doing some research in rooting, unlocking and installing roms on this device and i have succesfully rooted and unlocked it.
After doing so i also installed the Recovery System using ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7-nAa-r2 install batches, then i continued and tried to flash XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness ver.1 through Recovery, which, failed and soft bricked my phone... so i then used Flashtool to downgrade to a stock firmware that i randomly found on the forums.
So the firmware installed is GB 2.3.3 and i was on 2.3.4 previously. I thought i could update my phone to a higher firmware using the PC companion app but it fails saying that my device is modified somehow and cannot upgrade... ok, well, i thought maybe using a ROM anyways so i tried installing Recovery system again but X-parts now says that my phone is unsupported...
Basically i'm stuck on 2.3.3, and i'd like to use a ROM which unlocks its maximum potential.
Any help appreciated!

Thanks for that!
Also is it a specific kernel for each ROM? or there a lot i can choose from?
Would help a lot if u could tell me what ROM is recommended for gaming.
I'm owner of a rooted SGSII with resurrection ROM. Modding a Play is harder xD

well the thing with a xperia play and all 2011 xperia devices is you can't flash the kernel via recovery like most phones,
Kernels are specific to each version and branch. AOSP,CM etc need a different kernel to SE. ICS and GB also have different kernels.
The rom i recommend for gaming is the one i am currently working on, based on TrueAncestor but need to get approval from here before releasing it.
same lol

Hi XDA, I've got an Xperia Play that's rooted with a locked bootloader running ICS, I've used the method in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762372. So far all I've done is gotten it rooted and cwm installed. However, anytime I try to flash a different ROM over I get bootloop, hangs on the Sony logo. I've tried the installing the following ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877297
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719746
If it makes any difference, I never attempted to install the ROM found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790615) before trying any other ROMs, I just went straight into the ROMs listed above but no luck. So, my question is, what is the best MIUI or AOSP ROM for an Xperia Play with a locked bootloader, and how can I install it?
The roms you were trying to flash needs custom kernel which means you need to unlock bootloader, that's why you get bootloop. For AOSP and MIUI roms you need custom kernel which means you need to unlock bootloader. As for locked bootloader you can only use the locked bootloader ICS by vokal and Markphyton ICS.

I also found one MIUI ROM that said it could be installed on locked bootloader, don't remember where I found it but it said for locked bootloader put the nandroid backup in the recovery folder and install from there, which I did. It got past the Sony logo but then hung at a black screen. How can I unlock my bootloader? My phone status says my bootloader cannot be unlocked, though I figure there must be a way. Can anyone help me out please? Also, thanks for your reply.

I use to have that problem with stock based roms... Try do a full wipe and format system before you flash... The format system bit is important might just fix the boot loop it worked for me before when I installed markphytons rom...but when u format system you will lose cwm so your going to have to install it again

I still have yet to try markphytons ROM since I've wanted to use others, but I guess I have no other option and it's probably better than the ROM that the ROM I'm currently running.
I was under the impression that any ROM based on stocked ICS would work with the above method, is this not true? Where can I find ROMs based on stock ICS 4.0.4? I've searched but haven't had much luck...
Yea that's what I thought aswell but never tried any other roms...i always revert back to gb... It doesn't really make a difference which stock base Rom you flash they all have the same camera and gamepad problem I think

You cant run ics on your xperia play because ICS requires a ICS kernal. You are currently using a GB kernel (locked bootloader) and ICS cant use a GB kernel.
Of course you can run ICS for locked bootloader it's created by vokal1992 but it runs very slow but you can try his/her kickass Gin2JellyBean ROM

That usually depends on what recovery you installed. Go to the thread of your recovery and look there.

No, you unvalid the warrenty only if you root the phone.
The CWM or TWRP are just a type of recovery... If you've never installed a custom recovery you will probabily have a stock one (like Samsung's) or maybe you WON'T EVEN HAVE ONE )... of course it depends on the phone's producer and model.
BTW, if you want to install a custom ROM or flash files, you'll have to root the device :good:
If you unlock your bootloader you will void your warranty.
Ok right now im downloading the ftf for the 4.3 update, here's what i'll do to try and root it.
-Backup TA Partition
-Flash 4.3 ftf using flashtool
-Unlock bootloader
-Flash a custom kernel to get recovery (doomkernel)
-Flash the supersu zip that can root 4.3
-Flash NUT's dual recovery zip
-Re flash ftf (kernel only)
-Relock (restore TA)
i'll report back if it works. im waiting for download to finish
EDIT.
im now running the latest update 4.3 and i have ROOT and DUAL recovery! Kernel i used was MEOW kernel to get recovery, flashed supersu fix and NUTs dual recovery zip. viola!
LINK to kernel (thanks Minthun46) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450565

I believe Ryoma... Was asking about unlockable = no Boot loaders.
Maybe we should call it a "Not-un lockable boot loader" -NUBL as it seems a lot of people get BU locked (un lockable) and BL locked (not un lockable) confused.

I have a problem with my Sony Xperia Arc S (lt18i) and i think it is related to a corrupted bootloader. Since i've installed a CyanogenMod ROM, i can only install CM based Roms and i want to return to the Sony Official ICS but in the Flashtool it gives "failed to verify sin-header" and doesn't complete the flash process. During Sony's Unlock Bootloader Method, it says that my bootloader is already unlocked. But when using S1tool, it says that is locked. I could really use a hand on this :/ thanks anyway.

i guess the pics speaks for themselves. Tried several ways of flashing (no final verification, no TA, no Kernel, no bla bla bla) as i saw in other threads and i get the same error, again and again. Unless i flash CM based roms (9,10,10.1,10.2,11; all of them work fine) i can't flash anything. Any other rom i flash, my phone just keeps stuck in a black screen after the logo and some of the kernels give me a brick pic. I don't know what i can possibly do
I expected information of what happens when you use Sony's EMMA. Why else did I only quote the EMMA part of your post?
What happens in Sony's EMMA is also in the screenshots. I open the program, plug my Arc S in flashmode and that's what happens. I've also uploaded the other screenshots because, in my opinion, there's nothing wrong in giving more information than asked.

However, information that you posted but not used or related is redundant. Sometimes it's better to give what is required and leave it at that.

Yes, i can flash any custom kernel via fastboot, but unless it's a kernel to use with a CM Rom, it's no use. For example: if i flash ICS Doomlord kernel, it gives me a brick pic after the logo, as well as any other ics kernel. The ones i can use is fxp, legacy xperia and others CyanogenMod kernels to use with CyanogenMod roms. Anywho, my objective is to flash the original ICS 4.0.4 ftf through Flashtool, or at least a Sony Xperia custom ROM, not a CM one

Nope. Every stock kernel and custom kernel i've flashed doesn't let me enter the recovery (except, of course, the CM ones). It just shows me Sony/Sony Ericsson logo and a brick pic after that. Tried several buttons (kind of in despair), none of them let me enter the recovery. No tapping, no holding, nothing. Just the brick picture.
Post a screenshot or the log of when you install kernel via fastboot.
