[Q] Strange noise of my AC adapter ... - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
Have you strange noise with your AC adapter during the charge of your Galaxy Note 2 ?
When i am nearby of my AC adapter and with not a lot of noise around me, i heard "electrical sound" from my AC adapter plugged "in the wall" of my house ...
Sorry for my english

It's boiling.

Usually that means its dying.

This isn't the first thread where people have reported this. It seems like it's a noisy ac charger. Perhaps it's just a poor design for the amperage its pushing?

Thanks for your replies but what do you think about that ? There is a danger for my Note 2 or risk of fire in my house ?

Honestly I would stop using it and try to buy another one.

The Samsung Charger that came with my Nexus...

Emits a high pitched ringing when plugged in that made my girlfriend think she had ringing in her ears. It does this even without any draw. It also smells a little bit like burning electronics so I assume that means its toast and/or a hazard. Think I can get a free replacement from Samsung?
Probably not.. they only cost like five bucks though

Take it to Verizon or call them. They'll swap it out if it has a problem.

Mine makes the same sound, but only when it's plugged into the wall and not to the phone.. When I plug the phone the noise stops.. I guess it's normal... I can only hear it when it's really quiet in the night..

Mine does the same thing. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out where it was coming from.

You're assuming he's got a VZW version
My first vzw nexus charger had the issue and I got a replacement from support. It was lent a Samsung charger, just a generic charger but it has like a ten foot cord so I didn't mind! Anyways then had to get my nexus replaced (random reboots and a column of dead pixels bothering me) and got a new Nexus and inherently a new charger that ALSO has the ringing issue. Luckily I still have the replacement charger from before so I'm using that.
Pretty disappointing I got stuck with two annoying samsung chargers in a row though and I'm just leaving the USB cable connected to my computer.
Yup same thing here. I only hear it at night when its quiet. When phones plugged in it doesn't make the noise.

Wow, really? That's nuts...
Yep! I figure I can't complain about that but kind of miss the quality of my of Droid... that thing was a tank and so far my experience with samsung quality is not the best. Luckily I love ICS!

Is it high pitch or a low buzz?
My dell laptop's charger had a low buzz when it was quiet, never heard of anything like that from a tiny adapter like the one for phones though.
High pitch
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Mine is high pitched when the phone is not connected.
When the phone is connected it still makes a sound but it is a more deep hum but I must put my ear right near the adapter to hear that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Common issue for these chargers. I have iPhone and blackberry chargers that make the same noise.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I think it may be common for chargers in general as my electric toothbrush charger does this too ever so slightly. .

It's called inductor/capacitor hum and it's normal and varies a little bit from device to device. Essentially it's just a very fast vibration.
Just for the record, I also have this high pitch squeeling from Samsung charger, only noticeable when not charging. My old SE charger 5V 700mA does the same and my 6yo HTC charger 5V 1A is quiet I think this sound has gotten worse since the chargers has become more idle efficient (not wasting power when not in use)

Mine no longer working after a few weeks. It would no charge the phone anymore. Now using kindle charger instead.

yeah mine has a buzz but i have put my ear 6 in from it to hear it, i have the uk charger from Samsung
I have the same trouble.. my charger stop and won't function anymore :s

Hissing sound while charging

I know it happened to some others but could not find the post. While im charging my nexus, there is a whistle sound that can be heard, this happens when im using a Samsung car charger, but with others, it was reported as wall charger too I think. Can this damage phone? It charges fine, and this doesn't happen, or I never noticed when charging via usb or at home

It's probably the cheap capacitors in the power supply. No worries.

Happens to me to, its the cheap usb/charger samsung supplied, I use a dedicated usb charger from a previous phone with no problems, hard to sleep with the hissing next to your ear.
My home charger was whining last night prior to me charging in the phone. That was the first time I've heard it before. Kinda freaked me out cuz I was getting ready for bed.

Nexus phone charger noise

Does anyone else's charger make a high pitch noise when it is plugged in? Same noise if phone is charging and if not connected. Mine has done this since day one no matter where the charger is plugged into in my house. I haven't noticed it elsewhere but there is usually more ambient noise other places I go. I've never heard a charger make noise before and just wondering if this is a defect that is going to burn my house down.

Mine does if the phone isn't plugged in. I plug my phone in and it stops.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Same here. I meant to clarify and say that it does it when the phone is plugged in but only after the phone has reached full charge and stops charging.

my charger does the same... but I use my PC to charge my phone... only used the adapter twice...

Mind does (well, 'did') the exact same thing. I threw it out and bought the powergen version on amazon. no more crazy high pitched whines. Was driving me out of my mind until I discovered it.

[Q] New Android Convert From Crapple. Please Help Me Find Chargers!!!

So no matter where I look, I cannot find good chargers for my GN2. Here I was thinking that I'd be able to use my 10+ white brick crapple charging blocks at 1A and here my awesome GN2 uses a 2A.
Now I understand that Apple swayed away from yet another standard and the pins need to be shorted in almost all car chargers in order for anything other than an apple device to accept an AC charge. Awesome.
I'm very happy that this huge battery needs a 2A charger but I'm back at square one. I need chargers... I need a lot. Please somebody point me in the right direction on what every android peep is doing to charge their phones on fast chargers... I am mostly in need of a car charger. Every forum I look at, the thread ends with no definitive answer...
Much thanks.

This is the charger that I use for my car charging needs. Ive had it for a couple if years and it has worked flawlessly. It also has an extra usb port for charging a 2nd device. I havent had any quality issues with mine like some of the reviewers have claimed. This works brilliantly with my Note 2. It can output up to 4 amps and charges 2 Note 2's with max screen brightness and GPS with no problem.

u have to ask but radio shack has a decent one and they are having a sale. and no i dont work for them lol. its a 2A 4port charger. also keep in mind the 1A will work its just not a rapid charger. as an over night charger it will still have enough.
Needs to be moved to Q&A section

HDMI Confusion

Ok... So I am confused as to what HDMI adapter to get. I just want the thing to charge while plugged into the TV.
Is MHL have to be supported by the TV too? I don't care if I have to use another cable to charge. I got this one, HDMI works but doesn't charge. Shows a red x on the battery icon.

Can anyone confirm that this one does indeed charge?

Hello mate. Cannot confirm that specific one but I can confirm the genuine samsung MHL 2.0 does charge as I have this one. Can be found here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Sam...&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+mhl+2.0+hdtv+adapter
Thanks. But damn. .. it is $65 shipped in the US.

From what I read, the red X on the battery icon means it is getting a charge but not at full speed.
I got the same with a powered USB hub. So whether you charge up or remain at what you at, depends a bit on how much you need, and how much trickles in.
Whether it's good for a battery the get a small charge and remain level or even loose charge is an other matter.

Well, I bought a MHL adapter by Samsung, and while the tablet seems to confirm that the adapter works, I never got to duplicate the screen at my TV... I have no idea what's the problem...
Buy an HDMI MHL adapater and make sure it's one that comes with the usb wall charger and is 3 wires running all into one unit. Should charge without a problem. You don't have to buy expensive ones just make sure any cheap solutions are at least decent material.
How many pins does the note have, 5 or 11?
