Multiscreen on note 2 vs note 10.1 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own the Note 1 and Note 10.1. Thinking of purchasing the Note 2 maybe next year. However, a question I have is whether the Multiscreen function of the Note 2 feels easy on the eye.
I am guessing this function is easier to use on the Note 10.1 due to it's size, but I wondered what Note 2 users ( particularly those that also own/ have tested Note 10.1) make of it. My question is, does it feel somewhat gimmicky, cramped and impractical on a smaller screen or very easy to use?
Sent from my 32GB Galaxy Note

Not gimmicky at all - It feels like the future.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

My experience: no gimmicky. And no cramping at all!
The screen is big enough that the apps you multi-task are comfortable in view.
And the multi-window of note 2 is also perfectly no-laggy, unlike the lag in note 10.1
And the choice of apps is much greater too.
Dont worry imma Note 10.1 user too
I think its pretty perfect

Sg3 over note 2?

I posted this over on the note 2 section and someone thought I should put this on here too. Sg3 with jelly bean for $99 or note 2 for $289. It's an upgradable line. Difference of 190 bucks. Opinions are welcomed.

The Note 2 is a beast. Yea they're very similar but using both, I can definitely feel the quad core performance advantage on the Note 2. Side by side I could also tell a distinct difference in the brightness and saturation of the screen. And probably the biggest difference is the battery. You can literally go days on one charge with heavy use. The GS3, not so much. If you're into phablets, def go with the Note 2.
I had Note 2 to play around with for a couple of weeks and I've owned SGS3 since July. I thought the Note 2 was solid but it was just too darn big for my liking. That was pretty much the only issue I had with the Note 2. I love how big the Note 2 screen is and all but I hated walking around with it in my pants pocket.

These two posts hit my experience with the Note 2 right on the head.
Like X_Fact0r, I've had the S3 since July. I decided to give the Note 2 a try and while it's a GREAT phone, I just couldn't get past the size. If someone has already had the S3, it feels like the Note 2 is just a S3 on steroids. For me, it wasn't worth the nearly $700 off-contract price to feel like I was just getting a bigger screen and I returned it. I also didn't think I'd use the S-Pen very much, although if I'd kept it for good, I may have found that it was really useful.
Add to that how good the development is for the S3, and I just decided to stick with it. But I'm not bashing the Note 2 at all. It worked flawlessly and if you don't mind having a small tablet in your pocket, it's a great choice. But I LOVE my S3, so I stuck with it.
Very interesting to see how the S3 people feel about this as opposed to the Note II users.
Mainly it looks like it's just a size issue here. And for the Note II guys, they thought the same until they put it to good use; multi-tasking and such.
I'd like to hear from more people.. For the sake of knowing.
& thanks OP for posting over here as well.
I played with one at best buy and it honestly I say gs3. Not to get all Apple but it was difficult to use one handed which is nice about the gs3 is that it is perfect size just pushing the boundaries of comfort. Also the price tag IMO is inexcusable. The note II might be a better phone but with the gs3 I feel you are getting your monies worth for what we pay. The note II did seem more durable than the sgs3 issue solved with a d30 case though

To me the Note 2 is a better phone. Size, pen, battery life and quad core are awesome!
For the money an S3 for 99 is a great deal. For instance if a Note 2 user would offer me their Note 2 if I gave them my S3 and $200 I would keep the S3.
Pretty much that is why I still have the S3 today

That's exactly what it was for me. I'd gotten into the "bigger is better" mentality, but I found it was just too big for my tastes.
The odd thing, and this was just my experience, was that I expected with the quad core hype it would be the smoothest phone I could find. I actually ended up having some unexpected lag. This was just with the stock launcher, but it was still there. It must have just been an aberration, though.
My S3 is smooth as silk.
I'll take the s3 over n2 any day.
I have the GS III, my wife has the Note II. For me the size of the GS III is perfect, just on that edge of being too big. The note 2 however is just too big for my tastes, but then again my wife drops hers in her purse, so carrying it is not an issue. If I want a bigger screen I bust out my transformer tablet, or even worse my toshiba laptop.
But I do like both devices for what they are and what they are capable of doing. Now if your a BIT of an artist always looking for a canvas, then the note 2 is more for you. Just not for me. I love my GS III, that is until the next shiny thing that comes along...oh look a penny....
I have both, S3 from July and Note 2 from Nov. I like note 2 better.
I played with the note recently and I honestly don't think I could get over the size of that thing. I put it to my ear and it was like I literally had a book to my ear.

I've had my S3 since July, and now I wish I had waited for the Note 2 before signing up for a contract. I wonder if I can sell my S3 for $300 and pay the difference for a Note 2 at retail price. I don't mind the size. If anything is worth doing or achieving for you, then there's no reason to be embarrassed.

my GF has the GS3 and I have the note 2... I literally have spotify streaming music for 10 hrs per day on average... surf ebay and craigslist apps constantly at the same time... play videos and use the multiview ability all the time... sounds silly but its useful with whatsapp! I never turn anything off! I have wifi, BT, NFC, all motion, all samsung, no power saving, basically zero concern for battery draw and after 18 hours of constant use... I end my days with around 20% battery remaining! The GS3 is nothing close. Plus the raw power and freakish speed of the GN2 is unreal! I can scroll any list no matter the length at maximum speed and never induce even one shutter... wicked fast! So yeah... I'm sticking with the Note2.
I have a s3, 2 note 2s. s3 is a better bang for your buck but note 2 destroy s3 in
Everything IMO..

[Q] AT&T note vs note 2

Hello all,
Please excuse any typos as I'm creating this post on my tiny iPhone. But I'm lookin to get a note or note 2. I've read as much as I think I can on both and have come up with some thoughts but need to ask someone who's owned both. I like the looks of the 1 better personally but the 2 is obviously faster and have read the s-pen is a lot more comfortable on the 2. My questions are:
(And don't consider the price difference when you give your thoughts)
1) Which do you like better and why?
2) With the ppi being less on the 2, is it noticeable?
3) Is the 2 THAT much faster?
4) Have you upgraded your 1 to the latest OTA and how does it compare to the 2 now?
Thanks in advance! Gonna be a note user by the end of the month but want to make the best decision.

I have had them both as well,
the one was nice, but the note2 is in a whole different league than any other phone right now..
Had the international note. It was an amazing device however the note 2 by far surpasses it on ever level. Go note 2 or hold out for the S4

Have both. Note 2 better by far. Note 1 has issues with black crush (something to consider if you watch a lot of video). Battery on note 2 far out classes the note, though note 1 was far from unfriendly for an average user. Screen is marginally better on note 2, but note 1 screen is no slouch (with the exception of black crush issue -search This issue to see if this will be a set back for you . to me it really wasn't as it was only noticeable in dark environment with brightness of phone turned down. Rare conditions for my usage)
Stylus on 2 is much better.
Multi window convenient on note 2.
Really can't go wrong with either but 2 is better.

Exactly what I was going to say. I just want to EMPHASIZE how much better the Note 2 battery is to the Note 1 Att. Even though it is only 600mah more on the Note 2 real life use it is probably like 75% better. The battery life alone should sway you to the Note 2.
If not the camera is better also, with how fast it takes pics compared to the Note 1. Obviously including everything that was said above also.
The Black Crush is really annoying too if you watch movies.

[Q] Is SGN-II worth buying?

Sup guys.
I'd like to ask owners of SGN-II - do you guys think this mobile is worth buying now, some months before release of SGN-III? It - presumably - will have better hardware and bigger screen, but would it really matter?
I'd also like to ask if somebody uses SGN-II on a regular basis to take notes and stuff - I'm planning it to use as a student (Bc.) instead of "old" paper notebook and wonder if it's screen going to be sufficient for that.
Cheers.
If you wait for the note 3 you might as well wait for the note 4. The s-pen works really well for taking quick notes but the screen may be a bit small for your needs. Have you looked at the note 8.0? The note 8.0 would be a lot better for taking long notes, IMO.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Imo the note2 would be too small for your needs. I have note2 which is an awesome smart phone but I wouldn't use as a educational tool, I also have the note 10.1 which given the extra screen space is a much better option.
I also recently sold the galaxy tab 7.7 which I loved and only sold as I realised my note 2 is JUST large enough to make a small tab unnecessary, so now I use the note 2 while out and about and the 10.1 while at home. Just my opinion.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
As someone who's got all three of the current Galaxy Note range, I'd say the Note 8.0 would be best for your needs. The screen on the Note 10.1 looks like fuzzy garbage and it's a bit too heavy to use comfortably as a paper notebook replacement. The Note 2 is ok for quick notes but not suitable for use of any duration. Note 8.0 is the sweet spot, both portable and practical. Battery life isn't the best but it will get you through a full 8 hour day.

Thank you for your suggestions guys, I'll take a look at Note 8, however I really liked AMOLED screen on SGN-II, looks so... vivid and bright after my Desire S, lol.
Y'all may think I'm crazy, but I went to the AT&T store last night to look at the LG Optimus G Pro and compare the screen with my Note 2. As far as resolution goes, I couldn't tell the difference and my daughter agreed with me. Maybe if you hold the phones 5 inches from your face you would see the big difference that everyone is talking about. The only thing that looked a little better to me were the whites. The speed I've been hearing so much about, well my note 2 was just as fast at scrolling, loading apps and browsing the web. Maybe its the rom and kernel I'm using (Hawkish rom and Perseus kernel). I'm glad I went and looked at the LG because I was jealous of the 1080p screen that I've been hearing so much about, but no more. The Note 2 is a fantastic device with a nice screen and a tone of features. The development is outstanding as well with the Note 2. We have a lot of very talented devs.

I am a student but I make my notes old skool with pen and paper. The Note II is fast and smooth enough. After 2 or 3 years I will buy the Note 5 or 6.

I currently use the s4 AND the galaxy note 2. The s4 is an AWESOME device that can hold it's own weight BUT the battery life doesn't compare to the note 2 and that .5 inch screen difference is MAJOR! Although, I must say the s4's 1080p hd screen is beautiful!
I also went ot S4 from N2
My only complain with the Note II was when i was on the train and holding on to something it was difficult to one handed use the phone other wise I loved the device. The screen resolution on the S4 is a huge improvement. I do miss the screen size on my Note II. Would love to get the Note III but I hear that its getting even bigger and I just cant handle any bigger then what it is already. For travel I could not beat the Note II for watching videos on planes or in hotel. for map navigation it was awesome.

I had my n2 for the longest time. then i got s4 when it just came out. didn't really like it since there was not that many roms/mods at first. so i ended up giving it to my first s4 to my wife and keeping my n2. but development for s4 has gone a long way that i sold my n2 and now have two s4.... :victory:
pros s4:
smaller size for better handling
1080p
13mp cam
ir blaster
pros n2
large screen.
large battery
stylus
I have gone S3 > Note II > back to the S3 > S4
I sold off the Note II bc I really never found a use for the pen. Loved the BIG screen and did not mind the BIG phone. Sold it while I could still get what I paid for it and tucked away the cash in anticipation of the S4 release. Scored my S4 off Craigslist and have been very happy with it. I had the Samsung flip cover on my S3 and love the new functionality of the S-view cover for the S4. The bigger S4 screen is nice. As others have said the smaller phone size vs the N2 is a pro. And the new screen resolution is awesome. IMHO - if you use the S-pen a lot stick with your N2. If not go S4

[Q] Note 8 or Keep Nexus 10 ?

Hi all,
Having been a Nexus 10 user since March having switched from a Note 10.1 I now have a craving for going to a Note 8!. I now carry my N10 around even less, it now mainly stays at home, now that I have got a Samsung Chromebook 3G which I carry to & use at work on a daily basis, so I would like a smaller tablet to replace my N10 as I also miss the S-Pen. My plan is to use the Note 8 as a sat nav / music player in my car for the days when I drive in to work and use it for magazine / document reading for the days when I take the train instead, which I can just throw into my bag along with the Chromebook.
This would also make me a Samsung fanboy by having a Note 8, Chromebook & SGS3
What do you guys think to this combination of devices, or what do you carry around on a daily basis?.
The Note 8 has more features by way of hardware but you lose the flash. It has a lower screen resolution but the screen still looks nice and bright. Battery life is great with the 4.2.2 update (leaked) even with the S Pen. The S Pen is certainly the most interesting part of the device, it doesn't feel too flimsy but maybe a little cheap. As far as whether to upgrade or not, it's all up to you, but if you get the Note 8 you get more portability and a quad core processor. Even though the price is notably high for a device of this size you'll hopefully find the extra features will be worth it.
Cheers, 64kb

Switched from n10 to note 8 3 weeks ago, and I really don't regret it at all. 8 inches feel much better, and I really really like the spen features. Tbh, I use tablets only in university, but taking notes is much easier with the note. I think the n10 still is the better device for multimedia purposes, but I never used that anyway. And I really prefer 8 inches compared to 10. I think 8 is just the perfect size for a tablet. Ofc, everything depends on your personal preferences
Multimedia -> n10
Reading, writing, mobility -> note8
I really don't see a reason you need a Note 8 if all your doing is nav, music, etc. in the car. If you didn't find a reason to keep the Note 10 then the Note 8 probably would not get you anything more unless you want a bit smaller tablet.
The resolution of the Nexus would be nice to have in car as well I think. Sounds like you just want something new to play with. :good:
I was thinking of returning my Note 8 and picking up a N10... I like the spen but it feels like something I won't use longterm.
I have a N10 that I love and just got a AT&T Note 8. I'm partial to the Note being a Sammy fan myself (and having the 10.1 before the N10), but no root/recovery/roms is killing me. If development doesn't pick up soon I'm going to have to trade this I467 for a wifi version or give it to the wifey and trade the N10.

unless you want to use it specifically for note taking and / or drawing you would be better off saving your money and going for a non stylus enabled tablet. The new nexus 7 looks pretty swish.
My Note 8.0 makes a great travel companion and I use it as sat nav / in car entertainment on my journeys. During those periods though I have no use for the S Pen.

For Magazines the 8inch form factor is good, I dont like it for comics / graphic novels though and would recommend continuing to purchase physical copies or a 10 inch tablet for those.
