Hello,
Just got my T989D
I can't get ODIN to see the phone. If i plug the phone in USB mode i can access the internal storage on the computer.
I removed battery, press vol + and -, hold and plug in USB, nothing happens, the device doesn't do anything, shows the battery is charging..
can anyone help?
did you install the samsung drivers for Kies?
you'll need them for Odin to see the phone
Try just volume down + power.

I will help you all out after school today please don't flash anything due to a risk of bricking.

confirmed. works.
Now, i flashed the recovery image, however, holding vol + and -, power doesn't boot in recovery.
Scratch that. Everything is fine.. performing backup.
I'm planning on doing a write up for this and a video later today, but my Nexus S has a dead battery. Rooting was super easy, just a slightly different key combination than the TMo SGS2.
Instead of Vol+, Vol-, and power, use only Vol- and power, that will allow you to use odin to load CWM recovery, once you have that hold vol +, vol -, and power from a powered off state, and that will get you into recovery. Then you can install the SU, I used this one from ChainsDD site directly:
downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip
(I cant post links directly because I don't post often, just lurk and work).
As stated earlier, I will try to write a more comprehensive HOW-TO later, possibly complete with video. By the way, you may need to install SU signed, or try it multiple times, but it does work.
If you use any of the current ROMS, your phone will think its a T989, not a T989D, and you will only see 3G instead of 4G in the notification bar. It doesn't affect speed at all however.
I hope this helps.

Boom..
Rooted.
Thank you!!!
I've been messing with this all night with the wrong key combo, thank you! Rooted mine and my wife's in less than 5 min.

Please help root and unlock Telus Galaxy S2
Hello,
I am a new member.
Just ordered a Telus Samsung Galaxy S2 phone.
Waiting eagerly for it to arrive.
In a meanwhile, started reading the forum to see how I can root it and unlock to use with a different network.
Reading this thread, I understand that it is indeed possible.
Can somebody please explain to me where to get ODIN and what to do with it?
And also, there mention of installing SU. How do I install it? Do I need to put it on SD card and run it from there within the phone?
Sorry for such basic dumb questions....
Thanks in advance for your answers.

You need to hold VOL DOWN and then insert the cable and the drivers will install. Telus phones are different.

You will lose your fancy 4G icon because juggernaut is based off the T-Mobile ROM... not sure what else there is to lose to be honest. Juggernaut / BeastMOD are both awesome.
Boot into recovery mode and create a nandroid backup of your stock before doing anything.
EDIT - No sollution found!!
Please examine this thread if you have similar problems, but please don't ask how we got it fixed. The phone was just done for, dead, bricked, whatever you want to call it.
Good luck with yours!

Hey people,
A friend of mine is getting a white screen on his Galaxy Y, can't do anything with it. Even a hard reset (as found on the internet) doesn't work. (Hard reset being holding volume up, center button and power button).
Does anyone have experience with this problem?

Thats NOT a hard reset! Pull the battery, and insert it again. Now do your "hard reset". As in, holding volume up+home+power key together until you see the Samsung logo. Do a data wipe and restart. If that doesnt work, search for flashable firmware packages in the Development section. If that doesn't work either, replace your phone.
Hey guys,
Thank you both for your replies.

Stating what happened: He just suddenly had a white screen, unable to do anything with the phone. Rebooting, pulling the battery etc. didn't do anything.
Your second option didn't work either unfortunatly.

Sorry about that, I just read in about this phone, since it's not mine, and I already forgot about the second part.
Unfortunately, neither of this works. Every boot method gets him a white screen. Since he rooted his phone about a week ago, looks like he's going to need a new one.

try flashing the ROM using Odin from the PC
Might Odin be the same as Samsung Kies in dutch? Or is this an external program?
Assuming it's this program: http://odin-win.sourceforge.net/
Now how does this work? I've been flashing my phone for quite a while now, but I'm not familiar with this program. Can I just download a ROM (stock) from the developers part here?

Okay thanks for all your help guys.
My friend tried everything you people suggested, but nothing worked. He just had an expert look at it and it's just totally bricked. Gotta buy a new one. Thanks for trying anyway!
Sorry for bringing this up again, but I kinda feel sorry when people brick their devices. Yours doesnt have to be a brick. Read this. The instructions are on the first page. There's a link to Odin too. Hope for the best!

Thanks for the reply. Just 1 more question what will I do after? Is this to check if you have successfully done it?
10. Restart directly to recovery mode before rebooting into OS.(Hold POWER, Volume UP, and the HOME button all at the same time. When you see the Samsung Logo, let go of the POWER button, but keep holding the Volume UP and HOME until you see the recovery screen).

Yes, if you don't perform step 10, stock recovery will be installed again when you reboot.
Hey guys! I just got a brandnew Zenfone 2, my 2nd non-sony smartphone (1st was HTC One M7, and yeah, I WAS a sony fanboy) anyway, I rooted the device using method 3 and all seems to be working fine. But I just wanted to know if its the Rooting that has caused the "error" when entering recovery mode? Or it's already there out-of-the-box? (yeah I know the solution, just wanna know since I haven't tried entering Recovery Mode before I rooted my ZF2.) Thanks XDA-ers!
.is it stuck at android on its back, error ?? if its is hold power button down and tap volume up once and you should be in recovery,,
