[Q] Turn off Wifi and GPS during certain hours (nightime)? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to turn off GPS and Wifi etc at certain hours (at night for example), or do I need a certain app for it?
If an app is needed, feel free to recommend one.

Yep my friend you should check out "Tasker" it's really an awsome app , here's a video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEhnOJl5mTo

I believe you need some app for that. Good news is there are a few free, easy to use and capable of doing more than just turning stuff on or off at certain times.
Recently I researched this for a friend of mine. Try "Impel" or "Smart Places". I don't know if I can already post links, but here's trying:
Impel: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phase2i.impel
Smart Places: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.smartplaces

Tasker Task to Toggle between 3G and HSPA mode with 1 button press

Hey all. I am not sure if this is the right sub-forum for this or if I should have put it in General?
As we all know, HSPA is a huge battery drain compared to standard 3G. In fact if you are a heavy data user like me, switching to 3G mode can save you as much as 25%-30% of your charge over 24 hours. 3G is usually enough, of course the problem is sometimes you just want the higher HSPA speeds (for videos etc), and turning it on and off is a big PITA since it is a multi-stage process involving going into the dialer menu.
I searched high and low for a market app that could do this and couldn't find any. So I wrote this Tasker task to automate the whole thing. Assuming you have the Tasker app, all you have to do is import this task and assign it to a homescreen shortcut. You can then just click it and it will toggle HSPA on or off.

OP writes "Assuming you have the Tasker app..."
you need to download and install the Tasker app (paid) to install this fix.
That's right you need tasker, then just import it.
If you have never looked at Tasker I would highly recommended it, its basically the most powerful android app around.

[Q] Spare Parts equivalent?

I need an app that can tell me how long my phone has been awake since "Unplugged".
Sense only tells you from when your phone has been turned on. So if you're like me, you rarely turn off your phone and just keep charging it.
I'm trying out different kernels and need to know which one is best for my battery.
Spare Parts used to inform me well on CM7 but I'm now on Stock Sense 4.24 and the battery monitor part doesn't work (FC).
Any suggestions?
I use "Spare Parts Plus! (no ads)". It's free with no ads, search it in the market. Hope this helps.

Thx, I just tried it and it seems actually better than the original Spare Parts.
BUT, it seems that the FCs were due to Stock Sense not having "Battery History Activity" built-in
I just need a way to get it on Sense, will ask in another thread, but thanks for your help

Thanks very much. Exactly what I needed.
Try Better Battery History (I think that's the name), it's available on the forum. I've never actually used it, but I've heard good things about it.

Shall we really use Anti-Virus+firewall Apps with HoX?

This is really a question for me...
Do we really need anti-virus + firewall app like ie: Avast for our HoX?
Is it really necessary while all good devs are looking for ways for us to use our devices for longer periods of time & use less juice?!
So long as you're careful what you install/browse then no, same with a PC

Well I have been using Avast but I only use it because of its anti- thief function. It ring the siren every time we remove or change the sim card and we can active this function by sending a sms to our phone. So it's quite useful
thanx to both of you... I think for the time being I'll not use since I use Call Master for blocking unwanted calls&SMS and download almost only from Google Play Store...
I have avast to works nice and when he is scanning the fun runs fast and I really like the anti-theft but I don't know how to use it with the sms

They aren't in the Google play store. They were taken down. Google search then and you will find them easy. I use them to troll Starbucks and McDonalds when I'm on my lunch break Lol

apply the latest update, customize your screens with HD widgets or beautiful widgets, try out the different motion settings, install the amazon app store to get free apps everyday, learn the best way to take pictures during the day, at night and during motion....
being disruptive to others is not ideal nor should it be looked upon as a warranted action.
I have the wifikill app I found it on google and it is amazing. Lol

ROFL that's epic.
I suggest getting and setting up "Llama", I LOVE that app! Switches your profiles based on whatever rules you set. IE It puts my phone in Quiet and enables WiFi when at the office M-F between certain times, goes into Car mode on the way to/from the office, back into quiet if i work at my night job based on if i'm in the area designated, then silent mode to sleep and launches Lightning Bug app to help wife and I sleep.
DesktopVizualizer is another sweet App to customize any icon
LauncherPro and Nova Launcher are GREAT
Dropbox and AwesomeDrop are other favorites to make life easier
Get some game emulators -N64oid, Genisoid, etc -can use PS3 and XBox360 controllers with USB OTG cable
Robin is a sweet "assistant" for car use with 100% hands free aside from swiping your hand above the phone to get "Robin's" attention
Ok after stumbling accross this post, I have managed to do absolutely nothing at all work related today. wifikill is awesome. After turning on my wifi and connecting to a network, wifikill showed 186 connections. Going down the line and dissabling one at a time is truly comical. You dont know who has what ip but looking around you see people going like wtf happened. Great find thanks

Where can I find the emulators? I've been looking since I seen a YouTube video with a guy playing GTA with a PlayStation controller.

Only if you get caught lol. It was funny to see the people in Starbucks trying to figure out why they couldn't get online, but you would have to really get carried away to get caught or even raise suspicion

Android 7 Doze and GPS Tracking Apps - Any Issues?

I have not done the Nougat update yet and was wondering if anyone can comment on how the new doze features do, or do not, possibly interfere with apps that use GPS to track activities. These would be apps like Strava, RideWIthGPS, RunKeeper, etc. I use RideWithGPS and simply start it, put my phone in my pocket and let it track me with screen off the whole time. My understanding of the new doze is that it might kick in and stop the tracking whereas MM doze does not because of motion. So if anyone on the official (not beta) 7 uses these kinds of apps with screen off all the time I'd appreciate it if you could comment. Does doze interfere and stop the tracking? Did you need to exclude the app from battery optimization? Other issues/comments?
I'm not rooted (and not looking to do so) so experience/solutions/comments that refer to rooted options are interesting but aren't really what I'm after.
Tracking apps will not be affected.

I haven't. I use a GPS watch now that syncs with Strava so I have no need to use it on my phone.
It worked fine on MM which also used doze (though a less aggressive version). If it were an issue tracking apps would be getting terrible ratings on the Google Play Store right now. If you really want me to test it I can run one of the apps for you on my ride tomorrow.

Wow. That's a really kind offer. If you track it with ridewithgps that would be awesome. It's free but you will probably need to set up an account. So I understand if you don't want to do that.
Enjoy the ride!

Rode with the Ride with GPS app and it went well. I don't know if the phone ever dozed. In fact the battery stats show it was awake the whole ride. I doubt that the app will allow the phone to sleep or doze.
Thanks. I appreciate your doing this for me.
