It says it will wipe everything. So a complete backup is needed.
I am still quite new to this. Forgive me, but what is the BEST way to back up EVERYTHING -- including apps and contacts and SMS etc.
I have Titanium Back up Pro (and im rooted) though I haven't really used it yet -- is this the best ?
Is there any good apps out there ? Any good programs I should know ?
I just saw this too. Unfortunately, I've upgraded to JH2. The facebook post says you need JG9.
We can use this post for our flash guide using Kies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766589
Now... how can we locate a JG9 firmware image? I cannot find it on samfirmware. I guess we'll need to flash back to get this update.
I'll update my post when I find information, but feel free to post how we can get back to the JG9 firmware if I'm off base.
- Titanium backup is good to backup apps and data.
- I've used SMS Backup and Restore to backup SMS.
- Contacts are backed up by Google itself as is the calendar.
- APN data might have to be re-entered manually. There is an APN backup and restore as well.
- I'm not sure if call log data can be backed up and restored.
Too late for my phone
but great news
I find titanium hard to use, undestand and unreliable. Mybackup pro is waaaay better.
Is it just me or didnt my phone update to that firmware weeks ago when I got the thing... Some fix Samsung, thanks alot for wasting the last 2 weeks of my life waiting on you to come up with a resolution.
Please someone tell me im wrong... lol
If you have attempted to resolve the three-button recovery issue by upgrading the device to JH2 using a version of Kies earlier than 1.5.110074_45 and the recovery procedure is not working, please visit a Bell authorized dealer to have the device returned to a Samsung authorized service centreto have the issue resolved.
WHAT ?????
I installed JH2 via Kies something like 2 weeks ago. 3 button recovery/download is still not working. The Facebook page helpfully recommends taking it back and getting it serviced, but I think I'll wait until it's bricked.
I guess our only hope is for someone to tell us how to safely downgrade..

Just downgrade to JG9 then do the update.. its a different version of JH2 that is up for download via KIES it updates the SPL. were the old one didn't
Im hoping someone can get KIES to downgrade to JM9, so that we can update to JH2 using the supposed new version of KIES. Dont really see how this will make any difference, but heres to wishful thinking.
Any idea how I can go about getting the JG9 firmware?
Does anyone have a download link for JG9? Pretty sure you can get kies to flash any rom you want by fiddling with the registry.
this is awesome news. im still on the stock firmware. ive been scared to update to ANYTHING due to this problem. i havent even rooted the thing.
im gonna wait and see what the results are for other people before i do this too. maybe im paranoid but it doesnt hurt to be patient i guess.

Sorry was trying to quote you.. Anyway Id love to get back to the previous firmware, Any idea how to go about that? Ive seen people redirect KIES to other Firmwares, ie the new Froyo build, but havent seen anything to go back.
Hmm...
This "new" JH2 which should fix the "3-button combos" is a low package.
Maybe Kies (Odin SS_DL) is able to update the bootloader, because Odin does not seem to be able to do it.
If someone wants to try it with Odin, I can upload the file.

Hey man I am with you I think. I haven't done NO upgrades or firmware updates. Why? b/c I can't get Keis to work
So I'm still on stock.
My phone says this:
Original Production Software:
PDA: I9000UGJG9
PHONE: I9000UGJG9
CSC: I9000BMCJG9
I've only rooted my phone and used the 1-click-lag-fix
So questions -- once I upgrade my phone via Keis do I have to re-apply 1-click-lag-fix ?
do I have to un-root my phone before I upgrade via Keis ?
Thanks guys
@richthofen
Does this mean it is definitifly a software issue or could it still be an hardware issue since the older stock firmware can be updated and the newer roms can not..

Its software and it has been all along.. its the SPL Boot-loader... all they have done is get KIES to flash the boot loader this time.. in the past when you changed roms the bootloader was not changed.. now this flash with update the boot-loader with the fix..
Hmm, I updated a few weeks back to JH2. Its been running fine, but having that 3 button ability would give me more peace of mind. They suggest bringing it to a dealer for warranty replacement/repair if we've already upgraded - seems a bit excessive. I'm wondering if this "bootloader" alteration will be included in future firmware updates perhaps? Like froyo (hopefully in a few weeks)? If that's the case, I'll just wait for that instead of trying to flash back to JG9, then back forward to the "new" JH2.
Any word/thoughts on if this bootloader thing is a one-time deal from JG9 to new JH2 only?

I would assume that most people that want the 3-button fix are the kind of people that upgraded to JH2 as soon as it was available and thus with a version of kies "prior to 1.5.110074_45". Therefore most people will fall into the category where they must return the phone for service as explained in samsung FB note.
This is bizarre... even if the new firmware is the same as JH2 except for the low level stuff, they could have given it a new name just to allow kies to upgrade it. Instead they are explicitly telling us to send the phone back! It really looks like they are shooting themselves in the foot. Why not tell us to wait one week for Froyo and get the new boot loader + froyo at the same time. Returning it to Samsung will take much longer.
Also, there are a lot of users who did upgrade to JH2 using the latest Kies, and not one of them has emerged saying it fixed the 3-button issue.
Either Samsung has failed big time on this, or the statements on FB are not legit.

[Q] Getting rid of Vodafone AU ROM to 'stock'?

Hi,
I've had my DHD for 6 months now, and I love it, but after seeing this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056329
I've finally decided I want to get rid of the Vodafone crap on my phone. It takes way longer to boot than it should, I have stupid apps on there, and I'm generally sick of seeing the Vodafone symbol every time I boot my phone, especially as I bought the phone from them and am not even contracted to them.
Is there an easy way to rid myself of this Vodafone branded ROM? I know next to nothing about rooting or anything, however.
After seeing the link above, I realised that I'll probably be waiting ages for Vodafone to send the update OTA, and I would really like some Gingerbread around about now. Hopefully the process will speed up my phone.
But, is there anyway I can do this without losing everything on my phone? My messages, apps, settings?
A lot of questions there - thanks in advance.
Hi, you will lose everything you don't backup.
Apps will need to be reinstalled, and settings will be lost.
If your firmware version is greater than 1.3x.xxx.x then you will need to downgrade to 1.32
Follow THIS thread to downgrade.
Once downgraded simply download & run the RUU~.exe file and it will take care of the rest.
How could I backup my apps (and settings) and restore them once updated?
My 'software version' is 1.32.178.5
Looking at the link you provided, it says...
System requirements:
Desire HD with build number 1.72 or higher
My DHD's build number is 1.32.xxx.x... Do I...not have to downgrade? Or what?
Also, since I'm running on an Australian network (Virgin), will I need to incorporate that somehow into the software I put onto the phone or something..?
You can root your phone and use clockwork to remove data/cache to go back to factory settings
as for the virgin thing, just make sure your APNs are correct and you should be fine
So I could root it and use Clockwork and my phone would basically be like a standard Desire HD that I bought new, unbranded in a shop?
yeah but you will also lose all your contacts and messages etc
i think you can use titaniumbackup to save those kind of things .. but done quote me because ive never done this, ive only rooted and cleared then flashed a new rom on
actually look up a stock RUU guide
EDIT: Just Root your phone and flash a custom rom imo
I did it .. never going back
Hmm, okay.
What about if I wanted to put something on my phone like the link I posted up top, the 2.3 'release'?
well click the ROOTED link in my sig
and do all the steps with the exception of the flashing of the MIUI.zip ... just replace it with the custom rom of your choice and bobs your uncle
i advice to back up your apps and anything else you want to keep

Getting back to stock

About a month ago my phone was getting stuck on the HTC loading screen making it impossible to even get into recovery, So with some help from some lovely people on XDA I got a rom which put me back to stock, however I now have the problem that my phone either has a very low signal on the rom I got linked to, or on the Miui one i backed up thinks im roaming alot, which obviously isnt right.
Basically I want to go completely back to the start as if the phone hasnt been touched firmware wise, except for the froyo update. I have tried different radios and all do the same. I have backed up all the apps, contacts etc. But I cant find the Official Orange froyo rom, I have debranded the phone so I think i can use a debranded Ruu right? However When i downloaded one and try to flash it through Hboot, It says the utility isnt right and i need to update it. I have no clue what this is. So can someone help me out, I have searched the internet but alot of the threads are not relevant to my phone etc or my carrier.
I hope someone can help. I dont mind if i lose root etc. because i can redo all of that easy enough.

[Q] How do I install update for WFS when I'm rooted?

I rooted this phone a few months back and it's been great so far, but it keeps telling me that I have an update to install, but can't since it's rooted. When I did try to install it (forgetting about the root), all it did was give me the black screen with a little Android guy and an exclamation point.
So, how would I go about updating this phone? I have the Marvelc (CDMA) verison of the phone.

[Q] Can't find network on Tab 3 7.0 3G (SM-T111

Hello everyone!
I have a problem with my brother's Tab. He had one of his friends root it and they installed a custom ROM. Then it stopped working and they asked me to fix it. I managed to reinstall the stock ROM and recovery, the only problem is the baseband. None of the firmwares I found on the internet come from an Italian device, so everytime he tries to make a call it says "Out of service area". The carrier is WIND.
So, how can I fix that? Should I go on an italian forum and ask someone to upload his baseband so I can flash it with ODIN or there's something else? 'cause I also thought about using Kies, but since it has 4.2.2 on it, it won't let me update it, since it's already at the last release available.
Thanks for your help, and please tell me if you need more informations.
