Hi all.
I'm having a little issue with my Gnex,
When silent mode is on, I can hear micro sounds from the speaker, it only happens when a sound should run in that moment (if I were using loud mode) like pressing keys or typing in keyboard.
If I disable key sounds this issue disappear but well, I don't want to modify this check everyday.
Someone with the same problem?
Running stock Gnex, JB 4.1.1
Thanks in advance

Please someone help,
I've detected also that battery stats tells that audioOut_2 is running, it stops if I disable those sounds but not If I put the Gnex on silent.
Any anyone?
Thanks so much

does it happen on all of the roms you flash?? have you tried using quiet hours instead of setting it to silent?
as for the audioOut_2 wakelock, here's a discussion link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792081
they said that sometimes, it occurs because of apps or games continuing to run in the background like gta3 for example.
someone also posted that switching to faux's kernel got rid of the issue.
Firstly, thanks for trying to help.
I tried some custom roms before coming back to stock, but I can't remember about this issue,
If I remember correctly, it was happening also before I perform last factory reset.
Anyway, did u understood my problem? It is quite hard to explain it
Thanks for all

Well I've tried the same with headphones connected and the "sound" still appears while the phone is silent and using my keyboard (or just clicking on send in messages)
Any idea how to fix it?

thanks I will try to do this but I'm gonna lose my data and if I restore it via CMD I might get the problem again so I wish for an easier solution
Has anyone else experienced this? I can't quite pinpoint when it happens, sometimes it's when the flash comes on, other times it just happens randomly. Opening images/videos sometimes does it too.
It comes from around the back but I can't tell if it's the light making the noise or if it's coming from the speaker. Very strange. On the odd occasion it will restart the phone immediately after the noise.
+1 i also get this sometims after exiting a games, switching apps and phone either freezes or restarts any idea what this might be ?

Well at least I'm not the only one then! I've googled it before hoping someone might know what causes it (even if it happens on other devices) but I couldn't find anything.
I have this issue too on stock GB.
To start solving it, could anyone confirm if it appeares only on GB or on JB too?

This had happend to me two or three times in the past couple of days. I have a tasker action to set automatically on silent, so I thought it was a wrong triggered action. I did not give it importance but now reading your post it start worrying me. Hope this dont be something problematic. If you discover something please share it, I will investigate also.
This has not happend me again. It was quite strange. Has it happend to you again?

Yes this still happens. Ive noticed my phone goes to silent automatically at 10pm pacific. Anyone know why this is happening? I dont recall ever having a a set time for my phone to go silent.
have you check the quiet hour? in the Sound menu..
headphone jack
possibly the headphone jack is fluffed up like my other og it thought the headphones were in when they werent so i got no notification noise or anything check for that?
My E975 has a habit of randomly going silent at random hours. I can only get out of it by restarting - there is no "silent" indication in the status menu. Makes my girlfriend really upset if I don't reply her messages after an hour or so ...
OK this problem has been bugging me. Its started a few weeks back and i thought when i updated to 4.3 it would go away. But no luck.
Here is the problem. I have a Samsung S3 SGH I747M on Rogers was on 4.1.2 stock rom rooted. Now im on 4.3 stock rom rooted.
My phone keeps changing the notification/ all volumes on it own to very low. I can hardly hear it. I reboot my phone and its back to normal and all volumes are were i set them. Now i did notice that when it does go very low all my volume sliders go to the max position but everything will be very low.
Its driving me crazy. I have uninstalled several apps that i thought might be causing the problem but nothing seems to fix it. My next step is to do a factory reset. Which i really don't want to do as i have my phone set up the way i like it.
I'm hoping some of you phone gurus out there can help me find this annoyance.
Thanks.
Wow. No reply's. I guess nobody has had this problem before. Ill keep looking.
My volume dips occasionally, but I'm on pacman Rom with viper4android installed. In my case it happens when viper decides to randomly crash.

Did you have any audio mods installed ? If so then that might have caused the problem because to fully uninstall those you have to remove some of their system files or if they changed your build.prop you might have to undo the changes.
Other than that im not really sure what might be causing it.

I have the same issue. I uninstalled Ram Booster and disabled Power Savings Mode. Problem still exists but volume change is much less. Also ,it happens exactly when screen turns off. Factory reset did not solve it for me.

I just started experiencing this issue as well. Never noticed it before as I always had my phone on silent for school but now that im on vacation I turned the sound back on and I can't hear the locking and unlocking sounds unless the phone is right next to my ear. The keyboard and the basic touch sounds are very quiet too. Wondering if you managed to fix this problem ?

Hey Florad77,
Yes i did manage to fix it. Tasker is the culprit. Its not playing nice with the 4.3 update. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and everything was working fine. No volume changes. Then i set up some tasks, simple ones like turn off my Bluetooth when i leave my truck etc. And low and behold the sound issues came back. It must be when tasker trys to run tasks that it F,s everything up in the phones settings for sound. I just uninstalled it again and i also removed secure settings as well. Here is a review of Tasker from google play with the same sound problems.
Bob Porvan November 30, 2013
Sound notifications don't work... After the recent update, notifications stopped playing sound files, unlike always. A power related task keeps firing when it's not supposed to. 4.3.yuga.pac

I hope this fixes your problem. Mine is work just fine now after the uninstall.
Volume issues fixed.
OK. I was still having the problem even after deleting most of the apps i thought were causing the problem. But had no luck fixing the volume issue. I remembered my son saying he has had a problem with his phone not connecting to the Bluetooth also but his had a different error. So i asked him what his issue was and he said every time he tries to connect he gets an error saying "unable to play during call" So i googled his problem and found the answer and it fixed his Bluetooth error. I then checked my own settings and changed it also and if fixed mine.
So If you use text plus go to settings and unselect enable incoming calls, and that will fix the unable to play during call error when using your music player over Bluetooth. And like me if your also having volume issues after connecting to Bluetooth it will fix that also. Make sure to reboot your phone after the change.
I hope this helps somebody as this problem has been driving me crazy for months now. I was so close to doing a factory reset and re flashing the rooted 4.3 rom again.

The problem with the volume that you are facing is because of a secret call in the background via Hangouts.
Basically Hangouts connects a call with someone in the background without user's interaction and phone goes into call mode.
And in call mode volumes are adjusted appropiately as it should be in a normal call and all the sounds come out of earpiece.
If you turn off Hangouts, you will not get this problem again.
Hit Thanks!, if it helps
As the title says (*kills). Sound working ok and after the update when I don't use the tablet for a while sound goes off for all the system. I reboot it and after the reboot it works. But several minutes later the sound is dead again. Any one with this issue???
This is so f..king annoying.
Thanks!!
Edit: kills the mic too.
Edit2: while it's charging through the charger it seems, even letting it a while locked, that sound doesn't go off. Really Google? So fuc..d up developers you have?

No problems here with the update.
All good here too
Mine is also fine on the new update.
Could be a bad flash. Try flashing the factory image and seeing if that helps.
Don't have a USB C cable and I won't buy one for this ****ty tablet. I spend 500€ to work my ass out to make this thing run okay? Hell no. Rooted and unlocked all my Android devices, not this one guys. It's really annoying. A month a go my nexus 6 battery died. Do you know how many years my Galaxy SIII worked before saying good bye? 5 years.
Back on topic. Safe mode won't help, sound even does not comes up at start. Factory reset won't help, issue persists. Only when charging sound wont go off.

Yes post it in google forums products and obvious answer came up like "safe mode", bla, bla, bla.
Already done an RMA. I won't bother myself doing anything else than updating via OTA with this Google device.
Thankfully the Google representative was really really nice and did all the tedious work a pleasure
Same here. Sound won't work after a while. Reboot helps.
No errors during flashing the factory image. Even the keyboard upgrade worked flawlessly.
Sound Issue
I had a sound issue yesterday on my tablet, which may or may not be the same thing.
No media sounds coming out of the speakers, even though the volume was turned up high, odd thing was notifications still seemed to work - i.e. calendar reminders still made the notification sounds and trying to change notification sounds also played the sounds as usual.
Grabbed my headphones and plugged them in and media sound was OK - removed headphones again and speakers were back.
I had been been using my tablet to watch movies on a flight back home with my headphones and assume that for some reason the tablet did not identify the removal event - so still had the speakers blocked!!
No errors too when flashing my unit. But there the problem was.
Regarding about plugging headphones in and out, and reverting sound back to normal, did not work for me. But when sound was working after restart and headphones were plugged, before every media sound was played a clacking noise appears.

I came here to post the same issue. At first I thought it was a third party app, however it is not. I'm currently in contact with Nexus Support and will update when I have an answer.
Edit: contacted Google Support and, of course, trouble shooting came down to a factory reset. I will try this and update if the issue was resolved.
Didn't work for me

Update here was working flawlessly. I activated Google now when screen off and issue returned. Seems to be software. But I don't understand why the factory reset on the other unit didn't fixed it. Try turning that option off.

I thought this had happened to me too but then after reading through this and someone mentioned audio blocking I remembered that I had this button called Pressy installed in my headphone jack, once I removed it, the sound worked again!
