GSM and CDMA version, whats the different? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well... Its obious firmware has differents and they work with different technology , but what is the phisical different?
Why cant a CDMA version case fit to the GSM?

CDMA have dual radios with LTE. CDMA models are a bit thicker then the GSM counterparts. I'm not 100% sure but it may be due to the multiple radios

CDMA is a touch thicker.
Simply look at photos of the phones with the battery doors removed and you'll see why the housings aren't interchangeable. They're laid out differently inside. Even the batteries are different shapes and capacities (1850mAh / 1750mAh).

what is the difference between CDMA and GSM?

just wondering why some things work for one and not the other? is it the radio? or are there other differences how hard is it to make something work for both?
CDMA = Verizon US
GSM = Everyone else
Pretty much sums it up. Different network, different hardware, different SIM card

ya i get that. but what makes them different to the point that some things wont work on one and will work on the other? are we going to see more dev love for the GSM version? or is it pretty easy to make something work for both?
The CDMA version has two radios. You have a 3G CDMA Radio and a 4G GSM LTE Radio. For the most part what one gets the other will have a version made for it. There is just minor alterations that need to be made so the 4G and 3G Radios work.
Should be pretty equal dev, but if I had to bet on something happening for only one of the devices I'd go with GSM getting it. It's the world versus some of the US. Plus Verizon is always trying to exert control.

Galaxy Nexus variants

I was under the impression that there is only two versions of the galaxy nexus available: LTE and HSDPA. Telus and Rogers recently released their own devices and I was expecting to be all the same, but sources say that it's different. Telus galaxy nexus is not a penta, but quad and has the size of the nexus s.
Surely that is a typo?
Yes it is a typo

There are two physical variations:
HSPA/GSM Pentaband - Smaller thickness and battery (1750)
LTE/CDMA - Thicker and 1850 mah battery
There are, however, multiple different software variations. Some phones shipped with Google supported OS (yakju) and some with a Samsung variant (yakju**)
Aside from the thickness on LTE, all SGN phones are the same shape.

is cdma & gsm are a same?

is the accessories for CDMA version fits the GSM? or they are different or what?

yes, they are different...
only screen protectors would be the same
cases are different since the verizon version is thicker due to its LTE chip
Batterires too
Not also the cases, but the batteries are different as well. I know a couple people who bought extended batteries for their GSM version that were made for LTE. They are not compatible.
Cases fit both.

Wrong. Well, half. Some cases fit both, but most higher end ones don't.

Difference between CDMA and GSM?

When I ordered my Galaxy Nexys, I was told I would get the GSM version. I heard the CDMA version was only for Americans and under Verizon.
What differes the two other than the names and networks? Do they differ much in hardware?
IIRC, the CDMA version also supports 4G LTE technology?

From what I understand the GSM version is for international use (If you're in the USA) and AT&T, and the CDMA version is Verizon 4G LTE only.
^What he said. Hardware wise, the CDMA variant is a tad bit thicker on account of the 4G LTE. Not really noticeable though. Either one is good in my book.

Correct. GSM version is thinner and gets superb idle battery usage.
I don't have a GSM...but I don't understand that.
My CDMA version gets fantastic battery.
If you're topping 23 hours off charger with 3 hours 16 minutes screen time...
Cool. But that isn't "bad" to me...by any means.
GSM, as explained...is used by practically every cell phone company.
The CDMA version runs "LTE" 4G. GSM is "HSPA+"
LTE is supposedly faster...by a little bit.
Really, the choice is all about convenience for you.
LTE is faster by quite a margin, if you aren't in a signal poor area. LTE will actually scale down to 3G speeds in fringe areas.
Also, if your phone is set to CDMA onlly, the battery difference from GSM isn't that much.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus GSM unlock possible?

Hi! Since quite some time i had been looking for this question on net. Verizon/Sprint Galaxy Nexus version & AT&T/World version phone have identical chipsets. LTE phones have a slot to use sim as LTE is a sim technology based in sim. We all know, that Droid Razr & Bionic are now a worldphone for they have identical chipsets and the NV ram edit can also make it a capable of using it on GSM technology.
Asking Devs if the similar patter can be followed in Galaxy Nexus LTE version and making it capable of using on GSM platform?
I'm sure that can be possible as these CDMA operators block lot of things in a phone.

No, no, no, no, no.
This has been answered already.
The vzw/sprint gnex has no GSM radio.
You need an electrical engineer not a dev to accomplish this task I'm afraid.
Those other phones had both GSM and cdma radios I'm them first day but the carriers restricted them.

Yes they have the same hardware EXCEPT for the radios, cdma vs. GSM.
Not gonna happen.
Just buy a GSM one.
And razr and droid had BOTH radios in them.
