Desire HD bad ROM install - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I followed this guide all the way through.
http://blog.dileno.com/archive/201208/root-and-install-custom-rom-on-htc-desire-hd/
and then installed this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531218
I got all the way to flash a new ROM in clockwork mod, then i got to the very end, said reboot now. I did now it hangs on the HTC screen, then vibrates once, then fahes into a dark brown screen, then just a black screen.
Any ideas?
tom

when i press pwr + vol down, it goes with the options
HBOOT
FASTBOOOT
RECOVERY
IMAGE RESET
SIMLOCK
IMG REC
when i press the volume keys nothing happens, then about 5 seconds after it changes to a different screen
with this..
Checking SD
pd98xxx.zip
etc etc
then says parsing....(SD ZIP)
then do i want to start the update?
It seems that its doing something like unlocking the bootloader or something, im actually confused!
how do i know if im s-off or s-on?

Above where it says FASTBOOT and such, there should be some other identifying information. It will say S-ON or S-OFF. However, if you used AAHK, you should be S-OFF. What happens if you say no to the update and choose RECOVERY? (Use volume keys to move up and down.) Does ClockworkMod start?

After you refuse the update, try to navigate to RECOVERY. If that works, you can then flash your ROM from inside CWM Recovery. It could just be a bad flash. If that still doesn't work, the download is probably bad. Just redownload it and reflash.

If i refuse update, the only option that i can press is press power off for reboot. Thats it, there is no way to press recovery, unless i can go back to the first screen? but there is nothing visual that lets me do that.

My bad, I forgot that happens. Hey, don't worry. If I can't get it working, there's hopefully someone here who can.
Try moving that zip off the sdcard root. You should be able to do that with adb, which you should have with AAHK. ADB instructions are at the thread in my signature. Or, if you have an sdcard reader, use the to get the zip moved off the sdcard root. Place it in a folder in the sdcard.

I'm being startlingly stupid. Try removing the sdcard altogether and boot into HBOOT. After it boots, replace the sdcard and boot into recovery. Does that work? From there, you should be able to move the zip.

Hi, when i remove the sdcard I can now move the vol buttons up and down and i put the sc card back in before pressing recovery, same thing happens goes to htc startup then browns out then black screen, tried again without putting it in and same thing.... so do you think i just need to remove update.zip?

I think moving update.zip will at least help you figure out whether you have a working recovery. I'm not sure if you're getting into recovery; if you aren't, try booting into recovery before inserting the sdcard, then mounting it in recovery if it doesn't do so automatically.

Just so I'm clear. You're rebooting while holding power+volumedown without sdcard, getting into HBOOT, and selecting RECOVERY. It then goes to the HTC splash screen and fades to black. Is that accurate? You're never getting into recovery?

[Q] Booting to recovery kills the phone.

Hi guyss, I wonder if you can help me, I have recently rooted my Desire using unrevoked3, I have superusr permissions app so I think it went ok, I have also done a back up using Titanium back up, however I can't seem to access recovery mode so I can do a nandroid backup....
When I go into Recovery from boot the O2 spalsh screen comes up and the phone turns off and I can't turn it back on or get it to boot at all unless I remove the battery.
Have I done something wrong or am I missing something? It's not a really difficult procedure so I feel a bit daft here.

Any help/flaming/abuse appreciated quite frankly.

[Q] Problem with unrevoked

Hi all.
I just managed to go back to v2.1 with unrevoked 3.14.
The HBOOT screen is reporting 0.80 back.
When I powercycle the phone with the volume down pressed I go in HBOOT but as soon as I press volume down to reach the "recovery" menu item I get again the flashing of the v2.1.
If I refuse to flash at the reboot I get an "error" icon on the screen and I have to pull the battery to reboot.
Where's my error?

If the OP has used UnrEVOked, they should have a permanent custom recovery on their device, meaning that the need neither "fake flash" or a PC connected via USB to enter recovery.
To the OP: I've no idea what you are saying when you say that going into recovery is flashing 2.1. If you try to enter recovery, are you see ClockwordMod recovery at all? What options are you selecting?
EDIT: Just thought of something - do you have the PB99IMG file on your SD card? If so, this is what is causing your problem and you should delete it!

Dave

Apart of the radio and the CM update zips I have an mtd0bak.img and a PB99IMG.ZIP in the root of the SD.
Correct, I chose unrevoked in order to have the fakeflash stuff.
I never saw anything similar to Clockwork or Amon Ra recovery stuff. Either reboot, or re-flash the v2.1 or freeze.
I deleted PB99IMG.ZIP.
I booted into HBOOT.
I used volume keys to select "recovery".
I pushed the power button to select and ...
... I went to the green and white screen and then to a black one showing a
red triangle with a red exclamation mark in it.
The background is black with a picture of a Desire ...
the desire to flash CM 6!
if its showing that, then a custom recovery hasnt been applied using unrevoked.....
try it again.
(im getting pissed at unrevoked cause i manged to root 3 desires easily enough and now the 4th one wont work!!! arghhh )
New attempt (with v3.2) worked fine.

stuck on start up screen. cant do anything.

Ok, I have been looking for a solution to my problem, without any solution so far. I temp-rooted my phone with visionary. As soon as I rebooted my phone, the furthest I could get is the HTC load screen. I have set up every zip I could find in hopes that one would let me set my phone back to operational status. Nothing is working. Does anyone know what I can do to get back. If you need more information, please let me know.
Try the Q&A forum, which is the right place for questions like this
Can you get into recovery or fastboot? Try holding down the volume button while holding down power when powering on. Also, try holding the action button while holding the power button while powering on. If nothing happens then your almost out of luck. If you get fastbook (white screen with multicolored text as opposed to recoveries one color and black screen) you can adb push a rom onto your phone and fix it.
I didn't have a problem with visionary but I think my phone was rooted when I got it.

Can you get into hboot ? With the phone off, hold Volume Down then press Power.
If you can get into hboot then at least you can flash a ROM from your SD card.
If you can get into recovery from hboot, then you can use adb from there, but you can't use adb if the phone is stuck at the startup logo.
Sometimes it seems that if you go into the stock recovery (when you see the screen with the red triangle, hold Volume Up and then press Power), you can try mounting everything you can to see if that makes a difference to being able to boot.

adb won't work while the phone is stuck in the boot loop, I said that you need to get into recovery to be able to use adb. But as joemm said, we still need you to try the other stuff that you haven't commented on, i.e. getting into hboot in the first place.
S-ON with Vision PVT SHIP
This shouldnt be happening if he was just using a temp root. It might cause instability while the phone is on, but once it turns off the root is gone, the software is reset. Did you attempt to perm root with visionary? also, if he isnt rooted, the phone will be able to recover itself easily from the boot recovery. unless he doesnt have an sdcard with the recovery on it. also this all means that if he isnt perma rooted, he wont have a custom recovery.
Anyways, Pull the battery, press the powerbutton while holding the VOLUME DOWN key, use the volume keys to select recovery after it performs the test, and select restore phone or whatever it says in the orig recovery.
edit: dont forget to put the battery back in before you turn it on.

the version of visionary that I had (r10) doesnt have the perm root option. Does visionary automatically update?
no visionary was taken off the market after version 10? i think. you'd need to have downloaded visionary from somewhere else to get version 11 or higher with the perm root. is the stock recovery working at all for you?
I don't believe it does. Updates were through different releases all the way to r14.

Wildchild v3.3 ROM issues

Alright guys,
I've recently changed from Cyanogenmod 7 to Wildchild v3.3 and am having substantial issues trying to remove it. When booting without being plugged in, the boot animation plays non-stop (not quite a bootloop). When plugged in it boots normally but when unlocked it will not display the home screen and will remain black with the status bar at the top. This is accessible and so are basic functions.
I cannot use the keyboard as it does not display, all apps wont load and force quit and personalisation in the settings menu is borked too.
I understand I've loaded a dodgy ROM so lets steer clear of that. but now I cannot boot to bootloader or recovery mode, even with fast boot turned off. I can however boot the safe mode. If anyone can point me in a direction of how to flash a new ROM remotely or find a back door to recovery mode. That would be just swell
Cheers boys.

I think u need to reflash recovery. Also format the system, data partition manually after u flashed recovery. Wipe data, dalvik, battery stats and install again. Are u s on or s off u, need to post these specifications when posting problem.
The plugin boot thing only happens if u flashed wrong ruu. Anyways first do the above thing and also let us know ur specifications.

Dont panic. You can flash via adb. You are s-on and nothing can go wrong. You should not have entered into the safe mood. Because it by definition would try to restore original htc recovery that is it has already killed the custom recovery. Its no big problem. If u flash recovery it will be ok.
Just install android sdk tool and flash custom recovery. I guess its already installed if u have rooted ur phone yourself. If not wait a little. I gotta search for the post with which i enabled adb. Wait OK? Did U apply any RUU?
Edit: Are U sure that u cant enter into hboot mode means after turning phone off if u press vol down+ power nothing happens???
Edit: See this video and follow the instructions And flash recovery with help from here no.4 read the full post to be safe.

Well do I need a RUU to get cyanogenmod?
Nope.... When removed battery and power and vol+ pressed, It just boots to the boot animation. Ill try flashing another recovery and get back?

Try power and volume down. If u enter in hboot mood tell me the screen details.
For example in my hboot mode there is:
marvel pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-1.08.0000
microp-0451
radio-7.46.35.08

U dont need to go back to cyanogen mod. You can install wildchild.

I've tried both now and it just boots to safe mode, there are no additional details on start up, only the boot animation. Which runs for AGESSS. Still can only access settings and phone, keyboard doesn't work and cant access apps or home screen.
What should i do now?
Edit: If I just start from scratch with unlocking the bootloader, would that work?
Edit: Finally managed it. MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL

1. Download the attched file. Put it in your memorycard.
2. Press and hold Power with volume down pressed for 5 seconds
3. Wait while it completes loading, it will ask in the screen, press volume up.
4. Remove the PG76IMG.zip from memorycard.
5. Now again Press and hold Power with volume down pressed for 5 seconds and select recovery from the screen (select using vol up & down, select using power.) You should be in the recovery.
If it does, its fixed. U can flash new roms, instructions should be in the rom posts. Look in development section.
Edit: If U see ***LOCKED*** above MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL in your HBOOT screen, means U need to unlock ur bootloader. In that case I'm pretty sure U had applied wrong RUU. Anyways that can also be fixed with some extensive research....
im pretty sure if your s-on it will not allow you to flash the wrong ruu. but sounds like you had a borked recovery, reflashing recovery than your chosen ROM should fix it.

[Q] Random Bootloop

I had me phone sitting beside me. I had just turned off the screen. Then it randomly started bootlooping. I can get into the recovery screen ( Fboot, Hboot, Recovery, Etc... ) I think it might be the power button some how?? It doesn't boot loop until I turn on the phone. I've tried different batteries. Got any ideas??

Have you tried installing a new recovery? I recommend downloading SmelkusMod Recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543. Download a zip version such as PC36IMG_ra-supersonic-4.3-smelkus-aokp.zip to your computer, rename the file to PC36IMG.zip (watch out for Windows hidden extensions), copy PC36IMG.zip to the root folder of your EVO 4G's sdcard, and power the phone off. Then simultaneously press and hold the volume down and power buttons until the bootloader starts, allow the bootloader to scan for updates, and press volume up to confirm that you want to install the updated recovery.
