[Q] Force Close problem - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi,
I just recently rescued this cellphone which I believe had Darkside 3v7 rom on it. After flashing a couple of factory roms thru odin, i could finally get thru to the OS itself, not without a hassle of force closes. I already wiped everything in the factory recovery. MY first problem was just a black screen after boot with all the capacitive buttons lit, but you could use the upper menu bar (as in mounting the internal / external SD, etc.) I got past that now.
Right now I don't have an IMEI recognized, and i cannot open the market due to force close errors. I was going to use HC-kTool to recover the Imei.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

[Q] Is it possible to get access to internal storage if unable to boot into android?

My gnex was super stable since I got 4.0.2 (stock ICS, no changes whatsoever) except that it randomly crashed two days ago. I got "Android UI Stopped" message couple of times followed by lots of similar "stopped" messages refering to different system processes.
looks like two last posters in this thread had the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383109&highlight=ui+stopped
It was exactly like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeoo1Nx2T-o
I tried going into odin mode and starting fastboot. From there I deleted cache. I didn't want to go further and wipe all data and lose all camera files..
I wanted to gain access to internal storage and take backup of DCIM and other folders before wiping memory and going back to factory defaults from fastboot>recovery and was unable to do so.
Every time I went to fastboot or odin and connected GNex to the pc with usb I got could not install Android 1.0 and OMAP4440 drivers error message in windows 7.
What should I do?? Any suggestions? is it possible to get into internal storage if one only can access fastboot/odin?
(btw I tried to turn on gnex again after having it turned off the whole evening and it booted normally!! the only thing was that background wallpaper got reset. nothing else has changed.. dafuq?)

[Q] Boot loop after forcing my Note 8.0 to reset.

This is what happened:
My device was rooted with Framaroot. I had SManager installed and using apps2sd to swap my internal memory with the SD card.
I ran Fable Kingdom (a game) but still had power saving activated.
The game loaded, but when in-game I was presented with a black screen. I could still hear the game sounds, but the home, menu, and back buttons were unresponsive.
So I held down the power button untill the device restarted.
But within 10 - 20 seconds after the home screen appearing the device would freeze, becoming completely unresponsive for a couple of minutes and then it would reboot.
At first I thought this happened because of SManager, because it froze just as SManager was loaded.
I managed to boot into safe mode (which disables all 3rd party apps) and uninstalled SManager.
Didn't help.
I ran check disk on the SD card on my desktop computer. It found errors and fixed them. Still didn't help.
I then uninstalled all the apps I thought could be running at the time I forced my device to reset: Fable Kingdom, Whatsapp, Taskbar 7, Snap Pad, all to no avail.
I then had a look and manually deleted the data folders for those apps on the SD card because uninstalling them wasn't deleting them (because apps2sd was no longer being loaded?)
Still didn't help.
I'm now thinking a factory reset and formatting of the SD card (i.e. starting from scratch) is my only option. I only wish I could backup the apps I've installed in the last two months since my last Titanium Backup... But as safe mode disables all 3rd party apps, I don't know how to do that?
Any help or advice on what I can do would be greatly appreciated.
You could boot into stock recovery and see if it tells you whether your data partition is corrupt/unable to be mounted. If so, you probably have only the factory reset option (from stock recovery) to fix it.
If the system partition is corrupt, it would need an odin flash to fix, but unless you have an original (old) stock rom for your device, you may lose the ability to use framaroot, as newer roms fixed the exploit.
Having had similar scenarios to what you describe on various devices is why I abandoned incremental or application backups, and only use nandroid (cwm or twrp) backups, so that the backup is of almost the whole device at a point in time.
Sorry for the slow reply, i'm actually trying to move house in and amongst all this.
Ok so I booted into stock recovery. Where will it tell me if my data partition is corrupt?
It looks like this:
Android system recovery <3e>
Volume up/down to move highlight:
power button to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache

Where do I go from here?
According to civato in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42802094, it told him as he entered stock recovery, so I guess your data partition is not corrupt.
You could try factory reset and see if it clears the problem,
Your next step would be to search for your appropriate stock firmware and odin and flash back to stock (and you may need to do the factory reset after that as well if you still can't boot). Sammobile has most of the available firmwares, tools, and instructions, also some of threads here at xda note8. Search, read and understand if you have not used odin before.
Another option is to return back to factory using Kies, but I have never tried this, again you would need to do some research (or wait for other suggestions here).
Good luck!
I have no doubt a factory reset will solve the problem, after all... I can still boot into safe mode, which is pretty much exactly what my device would be like after a factory reset.
I'm not ready to do that though. I still have hope I can identify what is causing my device to freeze 20 seconds after my device has booted into the os, and has started loading apps.
Does anyone know if there is a file that stores which apps are loaded and in what order every time the device is restarted?
If I could read that, I could either modify the file not to load certain apps, or uninstall them one by one.
My main issue is that since my last Titanium Backup, I have installed Horn, Max Payne, and Dark Meadow.
All huge downloads that cost me a fair amount of money (i use cell data. I don't have broadband or free WiFi).
If I were to copy the contents of my SD card, format it, then factory reset my device... Then would I be able to recopy back the data folders to avoid repeating those huge downloads? Or is it hopeless unless I manage to back them up with Titanium?
I am very out of practice on my -ix stuff. But if you are rooted can't you open or install if needed a shell so you can just manually check what processes are running? Hope that is not too simplistic a suggestion but my last exposure that that sort of thing was my old Nokia N800 internet tablet.
Sans that what about once in safe more heading into the APPS list and clearing the cache on your installed apps. If that fails then take a swipe at the built-in stuff. Or does a cold-boot basically do this very thing?

How will I be able to download and install a shell and then run it in under 20 seconds?
All that booting into safe mode does is disable all 3rd party apps, so I know for a fact there is no problem with any of the built in stuff.
I'll try clearing the cache if I can find that option when I get a chance - probably this evening.
Thanks for the suggestions.

oh geeze you're right, didn't think that through. I was thinking you were stable with safe mode boot.
My tf700t went into a spontaneous bootloop mode a couple weeks ago. The only fix I had was a factory reset.
good luck, looking forward to your solution.

We're probably misunderstanding each other somehow.
I *am* stable with a safe mode boot...
Are you saying I can install apps (i.e. a shell) in safe mode?

Naw I'm just being dense of late. Sorry for that...been a long past week at and maybe I'm not tracking cleanly tonight.
You are correct you can't add apps in safe mode. I would have sworn you could but I just tried it with my tablet and nope no chance. Sure would be helpful for sure.
What about connecting to your PC as a storage device so you can snoop around the file system a bit to see what you can screw with even more? hehehe...I know you didn't cause this I'm just being a bit goofy.
If you can connect to your PC via USB is it possible to reup the kernal? Maybe that could refresh the system...then again don't want you to brick your tab so consider it only if you are sure it's safe enough.
I'm just throwing out ideas to see if it shakes something loose for you.
Oh, there was something we can try with our Transformers to try to stop the boot loops...it had something to do with booting while cabled to the PC via USB or something like that. Was not an option for me as I had no PC handy when my started looping. But worth a try maybe? Only works here and there but it supposedly did for a few folks.

[Q] instant Shutdown/reboot after (safe) boot

Hello,
few days ago I've bought a Huawei Ascend P6, had rooted & updated it to 4.4. As i've tried out the functionality, i noticed the safe boot option and tried it out. (I was curios, because i don't knew this before.)
So, some seconds after the GUI is visible, the system shutdown. Sometimes it starts in the Lockscreen, sometimes in the Homescreen, mostly all of the reboots, the GUI is reloading.
Vibrations are working, but the touchscreen doesn't. As a result of the unremovable battery, i cant enforce a full normal shutdown.
Unfortunately. I haven't made a backup of the internal storage, so i would prefer a fix or a way i could backup the internal storage, before reinstalling.
Some advice, how i can fix that? I would be deeply grateful for some tips.
EDIT: After battery clearing & "normal" boot, same again.

[Q] SOS! data recovery from stuck note 2 and i do not have a backup

so here is my problem.
i have a samsung note 2 (N7100) with 16 gb internal memory. I didn't paid much attention to the internal memory space, and had tons of data on it. And the phone reached a stage, where the internal memory (16gb) got entirely full. so, the phone got off automatically maybe due to unavailability of the space required to run the phone and apps.
I didn't had much idea about it, but 2 or 3 days before my phone went off, i had checked my internal memory and it was on the verge of getting full almost, i had this thing in my mind that when it will get almost full, a message will pop up on screen saying "your memory is full, please delete files." But, in vain.
Now the thing is, the phone won't start up, when you press the power on button, it will show the screen with samsung logo but won't go through. the logo will stay or the phone will automatically turn off. I am not much of a tech guy. I tried going to local repairing shops, but they all had this one thing, we can start your phone but we can not pull out the data and consider your data as gone. Data is highly important for me. I do not have any issues if the phone does not start up, but i want to extract my data anyhow, as it has my personal data (media and documents) of the last entire year, i know when i knew that data was so important than i should have backed that up from time to time. But, i do not have any backup.
i had never installled any custom os or no nothing about rooting my phone. the phone was running android 4.2.2 and i used apps like snapchat, whatsapp, bbm , document reader , facebook and few games.
i started searching out on the net for my problem, as i can not handover my device to any local or repairing guy, because they can not get me my data back for sure. than i found this thing, you can go to bootmenu than scrolldown to "clear cache memory" and maybe that could release a bit of space on the phone and somehow get my phone started and get me my data back. To get to the boot menu,
Boot Into Recovery Mode on Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 device.
With your device turned off, press the Volume Up, Power button and Home Button at the same time, for a couple of seconds.
When you see the recovery mode displayed on the screen, release the buttons.
i exactly did the same thing as mentioned above, but did not found any recovery screen rather found screen warning me about custom os or custom rom installation and other option read start phone normally. on selecting the first option and continuing "that i understand the risks of installing custom rom'" a screen will appear saying downloading and nothing will happen. and if i say second option the phone will start, and the samsung screen will come up and it won't go through.
the bottom line: my phone won't start up. And i won't be able to pop my data.
i had tried factory reset via boot menu earlier in the past in samsung galaxy y and y duos , there i did saw factory reset, cache wipe , ackup and other expected recovery screen. I know what the recovery screen looks like but in this case i can not get through as some odin something screen will appear instead of recovery screen. I won't find normal boot options but this two stubborn options as mentioned above here.
I don't know what to do . i would be highly grateful if anyone from here can help me out. and i already went through several threads in the forum, but none of the thread exactly matched my problem.
i also had this one idea that if i can remove the memory ic from the ciruit board of the phone and can get it fixed on other note 2's memory than maybe i could get my memory on that device and can recover. I know its dumb to think so and such a thing is not possible as everything on the circuit board is heavily linked to the board and we can not remove the memory ic. I can not get my files via hardware manipulation i know.
also, i have learned that flashing or re-installing the os, would start up my phone, but i would loose all my data and that's what i do not want. There are recovery apps such as recuva, which can recover your data, but that's still like taking a chance and is risky. and may be internal memory data can not be recovered.
Every android guy i knew all said the same thing that there is no way to get the data back even the android geeks whom i knew said the same thing. i am helpless.
I need media and document files mainly and importantly.
I just want someone from here to be a angel and push away my problem and help me out.
i do not have anything such as developer mode on in my phone, as i have already said that i am not much of a tech guy. I am a normal user without much knowledge of how to fix , root or any other thing.
please help me out.
Thanks for your valuable time in much advance.
The only hope is this thread. Be my saviour.

Complicated question about my Desire Bravo

Hi, I have a Desire with a custom ROM on it, the system running from an SD card. The screen died in an instant with no apparent cause (the phone is working, because i got called and I could talk with the black screen). I tried the electronics part with an other screen (same SLCD, I didn't mess it up), but didn't work for some reason.
I have a spare Desire, so I inserted the SD card in it and made a nandroid backup of the ROM and reinstalled it (the phone worked with another ROM previously, so it couldn't boot with the card inserted). The system booted fien, I made the first steps to set it up, everything went well.
As I really would like to have my good old system back, I tried to replace gradually the parts of the system onto the new one, starting with the Data partition, but I only got bootloop. What did I mess up? Is there any way to get my good old system back with all its settings and so?
Have you tried booting the Bravo in recovery mode?
1. Vol(-) + Power
2. Wait 10 sec
3. Vol(-)
4. Power
Then from PC you have access to adb and can experiment with downloading partitions to PC.
Hi, yes, I tried to enter recovery mode but the phone is still dead, maybe the screen controller died.
No matter, cause i managed to make a full save tapping on the black screen (4Ext touch was a big help now) using the other Desire as a guide (I placed the two phones side by side).
I took the SD card out and inserted in the other phone and... after restoring the image, it gave me errors, I really don't know why. So I took a 5 years old recovery image of the same system and after making sure it worked (thank God it did), I did overwrite the System and the Data partitions (with the ones taken from the dead phone) and finally I have my nice system back, no data is lost. Now I'm happy!
