If I trade it, will I still have insurance/warranty? How much money will it cost to trade them?

Huh?
If you're just looking to upgrade your best bet is selling it on cl or ebay and then trying to pick up a used s3 unless you have an upgrade available. Other than that I have no idea what you asking unless you know a place the does trade in discounts on new phones. Which if that's the case it would probably be a rip off and you're still better off doing what I said.

? About selling Incredible on ebay

I know to format the SD card and internal memory. Anything else I need to do ? Also, would it be better to sell rooted or should I put it back to stock?
Mention in your ad that it is rooted but you could take it to stock if the buyer would prefer. Also, don't neglect to mention any wear and tear on the phone.
If you want to include your sd card, format it on your computer, a full erase. Also, go through and do a fresh install of whatever ROM you are on, to make it brand new for the buyer.

Yeah def format everything, Go back to stock but have it rooted. Let whoever is buying the phone do the customizations on it. If you do and something doesn't work correctly they could ask for a refund, neg. feedback, etc. If you have a phone that works 100% like it should from the store and all you have done is root it, a lot less problems will arise.
I know this because when i sold my HTC TP2, I had NRGZ28 6.5 rom on there, as much as i liked it then guy who bought it didn't and i almost had to give him his money back, had to go through the process of how to flash a rom, etc... So from experience, Put it all back to stock, run unrevoked, and thats all.
Great tips, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

I would un-root it, and not mention anything about it being rooted. The buyer who doesn't want root may not buy it as they think the warranty is void or whatever other reason. and the buyer who wants root. will certainly be capable of rooting it themselves. IMO.
I'm not so sure of that being as jailbroken iPhones go for more money and have voided warranties. Maybe mention the term jailbroken when you say its rooted? A kid I know actually paid someone to "jailbreak" his evo.

no, you won't get anymore money from saying it's rooted or not.

And where do you come up with that. I have sold unlocked/jailbroken/stock/rooted phones on ebay before and the ones that are rooted/jailbroken/unlocked ALWAYS go for more money. I sold my unlocked HTC TP2 for $325 when most were going for about $250 on ebay. I sold my ex-gf unlocked BB for $225 when most were going for around $175.

any unlocked/jailbroken iPhone will sell for nearly 15 - 20% more than it's carrier locked/un-jailbroken brethren.
I'm not sure if it works the same for android, but most people see that it's running something custom and therefore must be more awesome. My rooted LG ally sold for all of $189 stock, I installed Froyo on it and it jumped to $250.
If you don't know, don't talk fool!

unlocked is EXTREMELY different than rooted/jailbroken. I have sold phones on ebay and have looked up prices on ebay and craiglist. Please, explain to me how you can unlock a CDMA phone, I would love to know. Jailbroken/rooted phones go for the same as stock phones...

no, we read, I think you're going into backpedal mode to try and defend yourself. Check this out:
Used 32gb Stock iPhone 4 = $500
Used 16gb jailbroken iPhone 4 = $680
Imagine the price jump if it was 32gb and unlocked? And no one said you could unlock a CDMA phone, where did you read that?
Yes, but wait! The buyer had 0 feedback... hmm who knows if that transaction went through. All of you are talking about GSM phones being unlocked and/or jailbroken when he's selling an incredible.
But, iPhone 4 32gb sells for around 500 bucks on ebay.
unlocked or factory unlocked ones sell for around 700-800 bucks
unfortunately, there are no only jailbroken ones on ebay ending anytime soon.
most of the time, they are jailbroken and unlocked. I will post some listings tomorrow that will be ending soon and comparing them to stock ones.

Who said anything about unlocking a CDMA phone. The HTC TP2 was a CDMA/GSM, I had it unlocked and my friend took it and used it on T-Mobile. Certain people will pay more for something that is already unrooted/unlocked/jailbroken. Please read what I write the next time you reply...

yeah, cause people want to buy an incredible that looks like a tropical lizard...
yes i understand unlocked phones sell for more than locked ones. i'm talking about stock vs rooted. stock vs jailbroken. They sell for the same price. And the skin is easily removed...
Jesus christ man... I could find a legit one, but don't feel like it. I was trying to prove a point, every phone i've sold ended up being more profitable due to jailbreaking/rooting. idk wtf you are trying to prove, but if it's that you're right, whatever. I am not going to message sellers and what not.
edit: Also, how would it be a scam to bid high on a product and not pay? That's just stupid. Also: this phone is only $65 more, but it is jailbroken. Buyer has 109 feedback. In most cases, it is more profitable to have a phone jailbroken/rooted. Now, can we drop this? It's getting away from the topic at hand.
don't get mad lol, i'm just saying that rooting/jailbreaking stuff doesn't increase the price. every phone i've sold whether rooted or not does not impact the price. my d1 sold for (180) average price and it was rooted. my samsung fascinate sold for average price (280) and it was stock.
It would be a scam because people may pretend to pay and idiot sellers would send the item. Also, your final value fee costs a lot to pay if you don't receive money until you open a case, which takes 8 days to open and close it if they buyer does not pay, so it's just a time waster.
Here's an example of a scam buyer, View attachment 500098
This is not getting offtopic, the op asked if it would be better if his phone be stock or rooted. I said that it does not matter price wise.

Best Buy or Sprint.

Are there advantages to getting the HTC LTE at Best Buy instead of Sprint?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I prefer Best Buy. The biggest reason for me is because with sprint you have to send in for the mail in rebate's while with Best Buy they are instant so you don't have to wait 6-8 weeks to get your money back. Also sometimes the prices are actually cheaper at Best Buy.
Also, the sales people at Sprint stores work on comission while those at BestBuy do not.....the sales people at Sprint are like used car salesmen. They will promise/say anythnig to get you to buy something so thety make money while those at Best Buy do not since tehy get paid the same regardless and thus are usually more honest.

Doesn't matter. The first 30 days are covered from both places, if you have a problem in the first 30 days just bring it back and they should give you a new device. After the 30 days, you have the warranty good through one year, and you have to take it to a sprint repair center.

Very good question, and glad you asked actually.
Would probably respectfully say, Best Buy would be your best bet. You get the phone the same day as you do with Sprint, but the mail in rebate is already subtracted from the original retail price which is a +.
Hope we helped you come to a conclusion

Best buy also offers the buy back program. I got it for free but I think it now runs like 30-40 bucks. Basically they take the full price of the phone before discounts and offer you a percentage back which varies depending on when u bring it back. I know after a year they give u 40%. So the evo was what 650-700 when I bought it I think. Well after a year they pay u 40% of that. It goes down a little after that but slowly. Just makes u be able to update every year still without the upgrade.
Much appreciated to all. Sounds like I'm going to best buy.

Mail in rebate??
So wait, the $199 pricetag is after a mail-in rebate through Sprint?? I was unaware of this. So you pay like $299 up front?
Does Best Buy have the May 7th pre-order also?
Oh... I think I have a $50 BB gift card! That may have made this decision easier. Haha.

Correct. Some stores/managers MAY wave the mail-in and give it to you instantly, but I doubt it.
And yes, BB will get the release the exact same day as sprint.

Believe it or not Radio shack is amazing to buy phones. they are so desperate on phone selling. a few of my friends work there and they always have amazing deals for phones either with discounted price or with free goodies.
so how much is that new evo LTE gonna cost retail? I'll have a crappy $150 rebate, but i'm not paying $650 for that phone. Is there around this at all? threaten to cancel?
which would be better then?

You can do the buyout program. It's like $20 per month early; something like that.

Best buy trade in or Ebay?

So I think I am going to ditch sprint and their crappy data speeds and switch to Verizon. Best buy has a deal right now that you can get a free nexus with a 2 year deal.
I stupidly bought the buyback thingy when I got the phones. I would get $40 for it. I've seen them go on ebay for higher than that. Since my phone is rooted should I sell on ebay because it may be worth more rooted?
Thankssssssssssss.

So you have an evo you are looking to sell and your asking if its better to sell on eBay or trade it in?
Is it a clean esn?
If it is, its worth a bunch! Depending on shape $135+/-
If its not clean, I've still seen them all going for $100.
I bought a bad esn, very clean one for $80. And that was way under all current bids.
This pricing was about 3 weeks ago
AOKP anything
I would try to sell it through craigslist (local only). The phone is worth $100 all day long if its in perfect working order. Don't hold out to get more, cause you probably won't. I am starting to find SGS2 for $100 - 150's, get what you can for it since it's still worth money.

I'll try that too. Seems after more searching on Ebay that's the route I will go if I don't get a local sale. I actually have 2 evo's. Mine is in good shape (dropped it once) with no problems. It's rooted with SensuAOSP right now. My wifes is in perfect condition with the latest ota on it, not rooted.
How much do you think I should ask? $80 for mine and maybe $100 for hers?

It just depends on how bad you want to get rid of them. Sounds like they both should pull $100, I wouldn't differentiate the price between the two unless that one drop of yours made a BIG difference in visual quality. From my experience, start with Craigslist for a few days at $120, then go to Ebay with plenty of pics. Some people recommend still trying to sell on Craigslist while you have it listed on Ebay at the same time, but I'm not a fan of that. To each their own though.

Did you have to sign up for a new contract in order for it to sell for $120?
I can't remember if I had to sign a new contract or not for the buy back. I think they would have done it for an upgrade as well.
They actually gave me $120 PER PHONE!
Needless to say I went with that vs selling on cl or ebay.

bit disappointing IMO as I was going to get the phoen from best buy at launch so I could get in on their extended-warranty protection plan. I guess I'm just going to order it online from AT&T and find some other extended warranty.

Why are you surprised by this? They always inflate their off contract prices on all of their phones. Maybe it's to encourage people to sign contracts?

ok so heres my question. i currently have tmobile and have found a note (tmobile version) 2 on craigslist for sale. hes selling it at an insane price! however, im concerned about getting burned. whats to say he sells the phone to me and then tells tmobile its lost or stolen? will the phone not work for me? maybe im to cautious but even at a great deal im still spending around $500. however if it were an unlocked phone from another carrier it would be ok?
ive been hearing horror stories about this so im just looking to cover my bases. its still a lot of cash.
thoughts?
I would be EXTREMELY careful buying off CL expecially at low prices. I've been hearing and reading about people getting screwed. One guy had his phone for 3 months before it got locked down. Just have to use your best judgement.

I owned the Nexus 4 and returned it for the N2. Screen was kind of washed out, battery life was not great. The glass back always worried me. Non replaceable battery as over time batteries go bad. Very fast, smooth, 4.2 is nice. No Facebook sync. Photosphere is neat but a huge battery killer. Great price from play store. But, thats if you can get one.
N2 is ... worth every penny.

The easiest way to take care of this is to simply meet him at the T-Mobile store to verify the transaction. Tis what we did for our second note we found on CL. Working like a champ!

Get it in writing. Make a "bill of sale" with the IMEI and signatures, yours, the sellers, and possibly if you go to a T-Mobile store ask if one of the workers can sign it also and get a pic or video holding the "bill of sale"? I know it might seem kinda weird but, you can never be too careful, these phones are pretty new and pretty expensive still, that is a lot of money to risk...
Are you by any chance on TMo classic plan? I have 3 lines on my plan and the closest one eligible for an upgrade is still 11 months away. I sold my S3 and ready and willing to add some money to buy Note 2 full price, either from TMo or ebay. But i took a chance and call TMo for an early upgrade, and they give it to me for the same price as upgrade. Of course with my luck, the day after I ordered, Cyber monday deal cut the price significantly, and they wont adjust the price for me but still i got it cheaper than my S3 sold price :victory:

That will do no good if he calls it in as stolen or had the value plan and quits paying on it. If he paid full price for the phone, that's the only somewhat safest way it would not get locked (unless called in as stolen)
I just don't want to see someone else get scammed. May be legit but you can never be 100% sure off CL unfortunately.

it wil make a difference in terms of getting your money back...if he does call it in as stolen you have proof of sale so its obviously NOT stolen...and if he stops making payments you can get a refund..you would have to hand over your phone but at least you get your money back
i would just make sure that the document you create states that he phone is either completely paid for or that it states that the seller will continue to make payments until it is paid off in full
someone else posted the same question and i also gave him the same advice...as an experienced phone seller/buyer of ebay and CL i would say that the extra $50-100 that you save isnt worth the headache and paranoia that comes with the savings
if you are going to the tmobile store you could probably even ask the clerk to give you the info on how the phone was purchased and if it was paid off...maybe even ask him how long the account has been active and if the guy has a good track record (the seller will be standing there so its not like you are asking for confidential info without his knowledge)
in my opinion...the only way i would buy a phone that is cheaper than the average asking price is if the seller really did convince me that it was legit (has a legit reason for selling the phone where the price that he sells it for isnt his main focus - ie. he received it as a gift and making $500 on a quick sale is enough for him he doesnt care to squeeze the extra $50 and/or if the seller had a receipt for the phone)..if i have an uneasy feeling i would just pass.always go with your gut

ok so heres my question. i currently have tmobile and have found a note (tmobile version) 2 on craigslist for sale. hes selling it at an insane price! however, im concerned about getting burned. whats to say he sells the phone to me and then tells tmobile its lost or stolen? will the phone not work for me? maybe im to cautious but even at a great deal im still spending around $500. however if it were an unlocked phone from another carrier it would be ok?
ive been hearing horror stories about this so im just looking to cover my bases. its still a lot of cash.

If I were you, I would go to TMO and see what they can do for you about getting the phone directly from them. I was in the same situation as you were about a week ago....wanting the Note II so badly, but had already used my upgrade a couple of months ago for the HTC One S. I basically walked into my closest TMO store and asked the rep what they could do to get me the Note without having to pay full price.
In the end, they were able to get it for me for $200...after rebate, but I had to pay $150 migration fee (Originally $300). I then sold my HTC One S on eBay for $300. So how you look at it, I only paid $50 for the Note II!
Trust me, go into TMO and talk to them....that is one thing I like about them over the other carriers is their customer service is better, not awesome, but better than ATT & Verizon.

Usually if you haveto ask this question its a bad idea.
its just the cheapskate in you trying to justify the purchase
here are your options
1) buy the craigslist note 2, worry about everything under the sun (is it stolen, does it WORK, are they gonna shut it down etc.) and take a chance of getting ripped one way or the other
2) dont be a cheapskate, save another 189$ dont have to worry about anything, ANYTHING!
i appreciate ALL of the feedback! at the end of the day the phone would have costed $450 plus 3.5 hours of driving round trip and probably $30 in gas. so for a total of $480 i just think ill save the few extra bucks and buy it from the store. i really do appreciate it.
just need to decide on a phone. n4, n2, s3, or the sony lt28h.
gotta admit $450 is a hell of a deal though lol.

NOTE 2 for sure...you're in the note 2 forum so that will be the dominant answer.
but seriously the note 2 has been the best phone i have ever owned or used...and i am a phone fanatic...once you use it for a week you can't go back to smaller ones...whenever i see other phones now they look like toys...i remember a few weeks ago (before i bought the note 2 and had my nexus) i thought my sisters S3 was huge...now when i hold that phone in my hands it looks really small and dull
i definitely wouldnt put the s3 in this class of phones (unless its the international one)...i would only go with the n4 is your MAIN focus is on development and/or this phone is too large for your liking
