s-on kernel installer(maybe) - HTC One X

found this guy made script and wondered if we can use it to remove pc need when flashing roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847860

Bump
Yes, please!
I really like updating roms, but a huge drawback when I have to connect it to my PC all the time...
I miss the old HD2 days...

Nice find, I think it could, but it's dependent on init.d, ROM devs could maybe implement or into there rom though. I'm gonna test in a mo. The boot seems to be writable once the roms booted, just not from recovery, so it basically flashes it as the ROM boots.

I tried it and got installation aborted

As far as I can tell,

You need the pj IMG on USB stick!
So pretty useless
Easy making the image.
So if anyone has their hox recognizing a pj IMG on sdcard without USB reader let me know
PJ46IMG.zip. think that's right
Look at xmoos s off thread

Flash kernels with CWM?

Saw this over at the AT&T One X development forums. This script will apparently allows us to flash boot.img through CWM with S-ON and without having to use fastboot anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686564#
Should work for us, no?
EDIT: vladnosferatu pointed out that our boot.img is located at mmcblk0p4.
So the command for our devices is:
Code:
"package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p4");"

good research,
our block for boot.img is mmcblk0p4
so for us should be
Code:

I'm pretty sure this is what the updater-scripts do anyway, but since we're not s-off the recovery can't flash that partition.
All updater scripts say this but it doesn't flash it as security is still on

The AT&T One X is not S-OFF and one of their devs tested this. He posted and says it works, but maybe he "thinks" it worked. They don't have any custom kernels yet.

Plus that line had to be changed otherwise there was an error in the script it had to include something to do with tegra

It doesn't throw errors, it just doesn't flash, which is probably why they think it works.

If they have stock kernel they wouldnr know if it works, guys it don't work. That why we have to fast boot flash.

Didnt work
Nevermind, they're flashing boot.img from different RUU versions. That's probably why it works.

if this is true, perhaps the image from an ruu is signed in some way? Or maybe the at+t one x is just less protected than ours, after all, they have supercid, we don't. Either way, we know 100% that this doesn't work for us :-(

Friend has Int. version and installed incorrect rom. How do you recover?

A friend of mine has the international version. He tried to install a rom without fully understanding the procedure. Think he installed an incorrect rom. He can get to the stock recovery screen but cannot go passed it. How can he re-install the factory international rom or revert back to the phone prior to making changes?
Any links or advice is appreciated!
What rom did he install?
Try running the RUU to revert back to stock rom:

Run the RUU If he hasn't installed CWM then he should be fine otherwise flash stock recovery. RUU will install the stock rom.

Sorry bro, I bought my HOX in Vegas last week and loooove it!
I do have a friend (who is probably reading this post) who is in another country (hence, the international version) who did flash a rom and not exactly sure what was involved. Just trying to help him out. I've had my share of rom issues on previous phones.
*Edit* I understand what happened. My friend flashed his phone with another rom, without installing a custom recovery.

Whatever, just ask your friend to goto bootloader and connect the phone to PC, just relock the bootloader and after that Flash the stock RUU. It should be specific like for me in India, we have to flash 1.2x.720.10 RUU. So check yours and flash. No need to worry if you can go to bootloader and relock it.
Thanks for the help. My buddy is back online. Time for a beer!

Need serious help. Phone not booting

So,I tried installing CM10 following instructions from lloirs thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835285).
I flashed the boot.img in the first step because he says it is a better option.
After that I proceeded to flash the CM10 zip file, but the install failed.
After that my phone wouldn't boot, so I did a restore from CWM and now my phone is stuck on the HTC One screen for a good half an hour.
Please help. Really need the phone tomorrow.

[RECOVERY] ClockWorkMod Testing

This wont permanently break your device or any bad stuff. The worst that is going to happen is possibly lose your personal data.
THIS IS A WIP IT MIGHT NOT WORK. If you flash this and it boots to recovery, you should be warned to not use any of the functions right now. You might lose personal data from /data or /sdcard. Its important you pull recovery log
Instructions:
Download cwmrecovery.img from here
Put phone in fastboot mode
Open command prompt and type "fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery.img"
Reboot to recovery
If it boots to recovery type "adb pull /tmp/recovery.log"
If it says device not found let me know and exit recovery without doing any of the functions
I'll try this when i get home in a little bit. If something goes adrift though, will i lose the data from my sd card? or phone storage? or both? im just wondering, either one i can back all my info up to my comp, though most of its saved to my gmail.
EDIT: tried it a second time, and it does not boot into recovery. i think i forgot to try and boot it to recovery the first time i tried it.
Same results, can't boot into recovery also

Doesnt look like jmz has updated this since before the working root method. Best to wait on this until it's updated i think. There is a stock recovery.img here in case you want to return to working recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122940
Just extract the recovery.img from the zip and flash it. If that's not the right file let me know and I'll put the file up here, just don't have time right now.

I may have just flashed my boot with recovery, now what?

So I accidently mis-read a post a fellow XDA member posted and flashed my boot with the recovery.img before I was able to make a backup of my boot.img. So what can I do now? Phone hangs at HTC intor logo, however I can still flash and enter BOOTLOADER.
Would appreciate the help chaps...
Fastboot getvar version-main
Go to fastboot and type that, post outcome. From there on we can find the right RUU for you. Once you have the right ruu you relock the bootloader with
Fastboot oem lock
Then you plug in your device and run the RUU as administrator. First get the version main and don't do anything you can't undo! With an ruu u can get full stock back
If you want to run a custom rom anyway you might as well download one and flash it away and flash the boot that comes with it. I understand if you want to revert back to stock first though, your call

Ok, downloaded the Viper ROM. Placed the .zip on the storage device in a folder named ROM. Extracted boot.img to Android folder, rebooted into Fastboot and flashed the boot.img. Now have cleared all caches and have initiated Viper install, however it's been at 0.00% for 15 minutes and my battery is draining fast! help help, don't want it to switch off while installing.
Also, I wiped the sd card in the Philz recovery - was this a bad idea?

Turn off, plugin make sure the zip is still on your phone if not copy again. Unplug phone before flashing and flash zip from sd card again. Just copy the Rom in the internal storage not in a folder, this could cause problems
Don't worry about battery life it usually charges in recovery and if not there are plenty scripts out there to charge it anyway. The thing to do in these kind of situations is stay calm tomorrow I have time to find the right ruu for you if you still want to return back to stock.

You did install all the drivers? So you lost the zip on the storage well that's no biggie, sometimes all I had to do was close htc sync and plug it in again to connect. Try accessing storage when the phone is fully turned on. Do you have usb debugging on?

Hate to say it, but I just repeatedly troll spammed the mount/unmount option in recovery while plugging and unplugging the USB cable - Seems to have done the trick. Copying fresh Viper .zip over. Fresh flash of recovery and fresh flash of Viper boot.img.
Upwards and onwards...
Fingers crossed, lol
There's an option in recovery to wipe everything in preparation for new ROM installation, should I do that?
P.s. thankyou for helping me me on this appreciate it.
Yes do the wipe to be sure and also the wipe in the installer that's what I did. Haha that's okay, this bed I sleep on on my holiday is crap so I guess you're lucky . Tomorrow I can help you find the right ruu file for if you ever need to return it (warranty) no need flashing the recovery again btw, just zip and boot

That's great, tinker around with it all you want! It is really fun flashing different roms. Viper Rom even has OTA, over the air updates. You'd have to read the thread for that though. Once you get viper to work.. make a backup!! Also copy that backup folder to your dekstop so you don't lose it and cause you need the boot.img if you ever want to restore

You are getting there my friend! Read their thread carefully though.
