Hi i've been having an issue with my kindle fire as of late, and i have been unable to find any solution. There are two main issues
a.) The wi-fi doesn't work, it is completely unresponsive, I will turn it on go to the wi-fi in quick settings bar and it'll go from off to on but not show anything, but then i can't turn it off...
the wi-fi function is also not working in kindle-setup and cannot detect any wi-fi...
b.) In the settings menu i can't open device, if i try to open device it freezes then i get a force close option.
Solutions i have tried.)
Kindle fire Factory Reset in Clockworkmod...
Recovery in Clockworkmod...
Cleaning out cache...
My assumption is this is a hardware option or something wrong with the core files... does anyone have any advice?
update your recovery with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935 to the latest COTR do a full wipe of everthing except your sdcard or external storage what ever its called on COTR then flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 see if your wifi works if it does you can rule out hardware...

I have had a Kindle Fire since they day they came out. I immediately disliked the stock Rom so I ran the kindle fire utility and installed Fire Fire Fire and TWRP, rooted it, and installed CM7 Rom which has been working great. Transferred files and programs between my PC and Kindle with no issue for months. Now with all the ICS roms available and working I decided to try and upgrade to one of those and thats when everything went wrong. Its in a bootloop and the triangle appears, fades, lights up again and immediately boots to TWRP. I have flashed the entire kindle using TWRP trying to get everything off of it. Upon plugging it into my PC BRIEFLY when the triangle logo pops up I get a "USB device not recognized" on my PC. I have tried using KFUtility to reinstall drivers, tried uninstalling n reinstalling drivers but the same thing happens. I cannot use TWRP to mount at all, nothing happens. Kindle Fire UTility keeps saying adb offline, CMD adb devices also results in 0 devices found. I have tried putting it on normal boot using both ADB and KFUtility and it says "wait for device" and nothing ever happens. Any idea? Not even sure if I have a rom installed on my kindle anymore but my PC wontread it so I cannot push another image to it. Got a plane trip on Saturday and would love to have this working to kill the bordom lol. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like your bootmode is set to recovery. An easy way to fix this is download FFF1.4 to your computer and use the mount function in recovery to place it on your sdcard.
Flash it in recovery as you would a rom except don't wipe anything. When you reboot, hold the power button like you're trying to enter recovery and you'll be given the option to reset the bootmode.
Thank you so much for your advice but there in lies the problem. Inside the recovery console i choose to mount it and nothing happens. My PC will not let me access the kindle in anyway at all, either mounting the SD Card or via ADB/KFUtility.

Generally, the only thing that would prevent adb/kfu from communicating with the device is the drivers. Make sure they're installed properly. You may have to uninstall them (delete if applicable) and reinstall them.
Follow the instructions in this guide to install and verify your drivers.

K heres the latest (we r making progress!)
I got my device to be detected by my PC and used KFutility to change it to normal boot. Now instead of booting into recovery everytime it boots normally.... to a black screen (guessing my rom is shot or I deleted it while playing with it). The issue is the ONLY time my PC recognizes my kindle is for a .5 second period when i first turn my KF on and the yellow triangle appears. I can use this window to change it to normal bootmode, reinstall TeamWin, stuff like that, but i cannot mount it so I can transfer or adb so I can push. You can watch device manager and it'll pop up ADB android phone or whatever it should but poof, a second later gone.

Get your device drivers working so you can use adb. Follow the instructions in the post below...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26144447
That is excellent advice and I wish it would work but I cannot pull up ADB once in TeamWin. Keeps saying no devices. As i said my PC detects it and ADB will detect it for .5 seconds on the orange triangle. Once the orange triangle disappears and it either boots to blackness or boots to TeamWin ADB stops recognizing my device. But I will play around with your suggestions once I get off work and let you know what i find out. Thanks again for everyones support.
Frozen screen during rooting
Hi,
I am new to the forum. I have a kF screen stuck (where it says 'kindle fire') while I was trying to root it. I tried hard reset, charging for half hour, calling AMAZON...nothing works. The screen goes off if I hold it for 20 seconds but when I put it back on same thing. I was trying to root it with 'fastboot (?). Is there anything at all I can do? Thanks.

Don't hijack the threads please. If you have a problem or question, post it in the Q&A section.
After performing the USB short trick, my touch screen doesn't respond to touch. I can get it into recovery, but can't choose any of the options. I can also get it to the unlock screen of the kindle, but the screen doesn't respond to my swipe. I know the screen isn't frozen because the time still updates in recovery and on the unlock page.
I checked all the cabling to make sure I didn't accidentally unplug something, and everything seems to be exactly as it was when I opened it. Please help, I was so close to unbricking my Kindle... :crying:

thanks for the advice pooch. the link you posted doesnt seem to be working (i think it interpreted the ... as part of the url). also, is there a way to do a factory reset and wipe dalvik cache from adb or the KFU? even when i am in recovery, the touch screen wont work.

Here is the link that Thepooch provided.
I am also having this problem! would prefer not buying a new kindle fire just cause of the screen not working due to the usb short trick
Make sure your digitizer didn't get unplugged and that the connector is seated properly.
brand new digitizer. looks to be seated correctly. even tried moving it around to see any results. But still the same. Might need a full restore. But can since the screen doesnt work. Might be able to find a soultion through ABD platform tools
Hi,
Believe me I have searched, read and tried most of the other posts relating to this problem but can't find anything that has been successful in solving my issue so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction:
I succesfully rooted my Kindle Fire and installed Jelly Bean, all working no errors. I could boot into TWRP (blue Kindle Logo instead of Orange with boot options at the bottom) and had actually tried a couple of different versions, it all worked well. Then I decided to reinstall the Kindle 6.3.1 again but I did something wrong in TWRP - not sure what the procedure should have been but I didn't Wipe Cache or erase when I should have done.
So now the Kindle boots to 6.3.1 with the Orange logo again (so it seems unrooted now) and when I get to the main screen I have 2 force close messages 'The Application Calendar Storage (process com.android.providers.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again'.And the same for process Acore. I can only hit force close and then the kindle shows the orange logo and I can swipe to log in and the same process happens and repeats.
I can connect to the KF with the cable the device shows in Device Manager as Android Composite ADB Interface and I can see various folders on the KF.
So I've tried re-rooting but can't get anywhere. The KF utility runs and says ADB status online Boot status:4000. If I run 3 to install (or reinstall) TWRP Recovery I get the activating Fastboot message and then
failed to copy 'files\fbmode' to '/data/local/fbmode': Permission denied
Unable to chmod /data/local/fbmode: No such file or directory
/data/local/fbmode: not found
The kindle has been told to reboot in Fastboot Mode.
< waiting for device >
It goes no further.
I've tried a variety of different fixes from posts in this forum but nothing has been successful. If someone knows of a post where someone has succesfully solved a similar issue please point me to it, or if anyone can help or suggest howIi can get the KF either back to 6.3.1 or TWRP back or actually anything other than what I've got at present I'd be grateful.
I seem to have communication with the device so cable is working, device is working (sort of) so I can't beleive it's the end of the line for it.
Thanks in advance
Hi,
For the benefit of anyone else having this problem I solved it. I did a factory reset from within the device section of More+. You have to be quick and it may take an hour or so of clearing the Force Close messages and then trying to get to More - Device - Factory Reset as quick as you can before the loop goes round again, but I stuck with it and suddenly the thing rebooted and I was back in TWRP!!
Subsequently followed the correct procedure to return the KF to it's original state:
1.Connect USB cable to Kindle Fire.
2.Mount it as USB Mass Storage mode.
3.At PC, rename Kindle Fire Software Update bin file to update.zip.
4.Copy update.zip to Kindle Fire SDcard (root level).
5.Turn off USB Mass Storage mode.
6.Unplug USB cable.
7.Power off Kindle Fire.
8.Power on it.
9.Press power button until light turn orange.
10.TWRP 2.0 Recovery will be loaded then.
11.Select Wipe.
12.Select Cache then Wipe cache.
13.Select Dalvik Cache then Wipe dalvik-cache.
14.Select Factory Reset then Factory Reset.
15.Go back to Home.
16.Select Install this time.
17.Then select update.zip.
18.Select Flash after that.
19.After installed, select Reboot System.
20.That’s all.
I did enjoy the Android experience on the KF but really only want to use it as a browser and battery life was far worse on with Jelly Bean. Anyway I can always root it again sometime.
Hi all,
I am rooted and was trying to update to latest update. I have enabled the update. It is downloaded. When I go to system menu and press select to update "Your Amazon Fire TV is Powering Off" comes one, but the FTV never powers off or reboots. I have to unplug it and restart manually. When it restarts, it does not install the update. I have tried to manually update with final command of 'adb recovery reboot', but the FTV does nothing. I have tried to use the unbrick method to reinstall stock or even get to reset default settings, but when I press alt + prt scr + i multiple times, on the fourth or fifth restart/try it just says no signal on the tv, but the FTV led light are on. slowly dimming and brightening forever. (I've left it this way overnight to see). It never gets to recovery. I've reset to factory default in the main menu, but that did not help. I'm not sure what to do from here. I'd like to reflash with stock software and restart from the beginning but I can't seem to get to that point. Can anyone help me?
Maybe try the script in the development thread
I installed TVMC and settings.apk and got a bluetooth mouse working. Everything was going fine, and then I installed FiredTV launcher. After the install I turned it off, and it won't turn back on. It's stuck at the "FireTV Stick" logo screen, and restarting it doesn't help. I can't access it through adb either.
Do I have a brick now or is there a way to do a reset through recovery somehow?

Hmm, it is very unlikely that you can brick the FireStick just by installing settings.apk and TVMC. You got no root privilege so whatever you do has no effect on lower root level. Just try to reboot the FireStick. Plug it into another HDMI port or switch power source. Also, you mention about pairing a bluetooth mouse. How about turning off the bluetooth mouse and try to boot up with just the remote on. Try some of these first and see if everything is OK. Again, you CAN'T brick an Android system without root level privilege.
I've tried all these things, none seem to work. I am getting it replaced by Amazon soon, from what I can tell this happened after I installed FiredTV, so maybe I'll avoid that for now.
