I'm not a developer and am struggling to learn about making the most out of my device. I flashed FI03 yesterday and wonder if (and how) I can use [MOD][Deodex][Odex][FI03]Hotspot Mod. I have the WiFi Tether app, but my connect speeds are pretty slow. Thanks!

No problem at all. Enjoy.
I installed Agat recovery and the Odexed Hotspot mod. It works, but my speeds are terrible (.5Mbps). Speedtest on my E4GT is about 9Mbps. Am I doing something wrong?
By the way, I installed the Deodexed Hotspot mod and got stuck at the Sprint 4G splash screen.
I've been searching for an answer but haven't found anthing. It sounds like slow tethering speeds is somewhat random and doesn't affect a lot of people. In fact, I don't tether often, so it's not a huge issue for me. I would like to be able to tether at 4G speeds, so if someone can help me diagnose this, I'd really appreciate it!

I've searched the threads and I'm not sure if this question has been resolved or not, but is there any ROM or preferably a separate .apk that allows for 4G tethering to be fully supported through the Sprint HotSpot application; one that is not limited to 3G tethering such as the Sprint HotSpot app found in [ROM] Myn’s Warm TwoPointTwo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471). I am aware that the Wireless tether for root users allows for 4G tethering, I just like the clean look of sprint interface a little bit better than this one. Also I've seem'd to have notice that some times the WirelessTether for Root users will go from 4G to 3G tether just as the Free Version of the Sprint HotSpot application, does anyone know what might be cause?
-Thanks!
you definitely have this in the wrong thread. Should be in the Q&A section my friend. But as far as your question goes, no. Just root your device and use the wireless tether app. Its soooo easy to use, just tap the screen and your done|

so the interface makes that big of a deal to you for the 5 seconds you have to look at it?
If the interface matters that much to you, then you should pony up the $30/month.
If 4G tethering is all that you care about, then you can go back to a 2.1 Eclair ROM and use the Sprint app for free. 3G tethering won't work though.
im also looking for the sprint hotspot app with working 4g. for some reason with wireless tether the 4G feels throttled
I actually have the issue where if I use Wireless Tether for Root Users my devices will just randomly stop being connected to it.
Sprint hotspot doesn't seem to have the same issue, so while in 3G only I can just use the Sprint app, but in 4G I end up using PDANet or something.

Just change the channel to 1 on WiFi Tether's settings & it'll never happen again.
WiFi Tether pre 13 is waaay better than the Sprint HotSpot app.

OK, not to hijack another thread but...apparently my search ability is TERRIBLE because I can't find the info I'm looking for and I'm SURE this has been asked a thousand times. I jsut got an Evo Shift. This is my first Droid device so please treat me as a total n00b. I'm coming over from a Palm Pre (HP Pre now).
I need to get instructions and links to be able to get my hotpot working without having to pay the extra $30 a month. Can anyone provide a total n00b that is pretty smart with good step by step instructions on how to do this? I NEED it to work on 3G and want it to work on 4G. Thanks in advance...

Wow, OK, first, this is the EVo forum, not the Evo SHift.
Second, I'm not going to tell you how to do it, because that's something you need to lean about on your own time. But all you need to do is root your phone, and download the Wireless Tether app. There are many ways to root, and all can be found in the Evo Shift subforum. I'm not sure if Unrevoked supports the Shift yet, but if it does, its the easiest method to root.
Just make sure you READ a LOT about rooting before you do it, as its easy to completely brick your phone. There are plenty of noob/faq guides for rooting on here and other sites.
Any wifi tether guru's working on a hotspot fix for our phones? I would like to follow that post or website and Im sure that theres plenty of others who would like to know as well. Sure all the mods/color/themes are nice but really theres nothing that compares to being able to wifi tether for free on a rooted phone and or being able to force roam when you have a terrible signal. I have a new found respect for those developers. So who does it? would love to donate for the cause

You're kidding me. I'll never get wifi tether on this phone??
prob not no jb phone has gotten it yet.
Thats why I am asking who cracked GB , and ICS?? just suddenly appears on the internet?
how bout roam control??
What do you mean no JB phone has wifi tether. I was running JB and tethering on my HTC evo. Is this a Samsung issue?

Bummer. We may never see an ASOP ROM but there is progress: http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/samsung-to-open-source-exynos-4-platform.html
Hey, I'm not sure I want to start using roms because I think stock is pretty good on this phone. And I hate the constant flashing. How do I use wifi hot spot if I am rooted (which I am)... if I remember correctly, if youre rooted, you can use the wifi hotspot but its not letting me do it without paying... can someone help me out... thanks.

Do a search on this forum and you'll find a few threads about tethering and workarounds.
Hey guys. I haven't reached my quota to post in the development thread, so I'll ask my question here. I just flashed jovy23's version x Rom on my wife's phone, and I can not get the native tethering to work. Everything works great and its a beautiful Rom, but I get the upsell page. I have wiped and reflashed twice. Reset the apns to default. Trev mods wifi works great. But would like to get rid of the extra steps to make things easier for her. I myself am getting confused. I would do the full tethering hack that jovy has but I haven't had practice of recompiling a Rom. Also I did update to the latest radio about a week before I flashed this Rom. Any help would be appreciated. On a side note, I have the hercules and using it without cameras because they are not allowed at work. I can live with out them. I'm also trying to get a flashlight app to work without camera permissions for my led light. I will also post.this in the t989 thread, figured I'd ask while I was here.
Anyone any ideas? Maybe the radio update? Anyone else have this problem?

I remember reading about downloading user agent addon in Firefox on the phone... I'm not 100%...if you on a computer, go to jovy's thread and you should have an option to search the thread in the upper right corner.. Just use keywords such as; tether fix, Firefox, Firefox add on, user agent... And you should find it.
Hope this helps you!

Thanks for the help, but Jovys Rom is supposed to just work. I've been through the thread and nobody has had a problem with the tethering. Just can't seem to figure out what's going wrong. His method eliminates the need for changing the user agent, or using treve wifi app which I currently use. I would like to get rid of the hot spot shield, and make things simple for the wife. I might just download the previous radio and flash it then reflash the Rom. Wife just hates me playing on her phone lol.
Hello Guys,
I am having WIFI Tether issues with any custom AOSP or AOKP rom. Installing a touchwiz related rom somehow resolves the tethering issues.
I've trying all the usual steps before installing a custom rom including wiping everything, factory reset and all that good stuff. But the native tether wont work on these roms. I tried the wifi tether apps in the app store but no success there.
However, what really gets to my nerves is that my daily driver is 4.1.2 liquid smooth rc7 version of the rom which i assume is based on aosp does allow wifi tether but only through the app in the app store. The native app continues to fail.
Someone once told me to install the wifi driver for the phone. Is that possible? If so how? By the way i am running a rogers s3 which is the at&t equivalent in US.
Also, just so you guys know, my other devices do pick up the wireless set up by my phone's tether, but it wont connect to it. password or not, it takes forever to connect and eventually fails.
Any advice?

If you carrier is Rogers, you need to make some mods to tether 4G (H+, 3G will work w/o mods). There's a post about it somewhere in Task's AOKP thread, which I believe a search should find it. Google can also help.
Same issue here, Rogers LTE tethering didn't work and tried to google and find the mods as posted.
couldn't find the mods.
Please advise.

Wow!!
Thank you sooooo soooo much. I spent hours trying to figure a way out to get the tethering to fix. This worked out super easily. You've honestly saved me hours i wouldve spent.
Thank you for persisting with the solution for us.
Cheers.
Yeah, Thanks for the link too
However I am not able to get LTE tethering speed
I am able to get LTE speed (10mbps+) on my S3, however the device that's using the tethering only able to get (~1mbps)
any idea?

It's dependent of the device receiving it. If it's too old or it's drivers are too old it won't get the speed it should. Also tethering shares the connection, therefor, you won't get full speed on the receiving device.
Could be so many things actually that's it's hard to troubleshoot.
Thanks for the quick reply,
However, I am using CM10.1 latest Nightlies 04/26.

I think you got me wrong.
Your S3 doesn't really matter here as much as the device receiving the connection.

so what do you suggest in order to improve the data speed for the tethered device? or is there no way around this?

Like I said, it's dependent of so many things. First off, what device it receiving it? Is that device old? Are it's drivers up to date? Does it have a good reception/connectivity?
Did you try tethering to other devices?
