I think I mite got a bad charging port. Is there a way to fix it or is it time to upgrade?
Is it just when your charging your phone or is it every time you plug your USB cable in? Have you tired different cables? i thought that same thing too and it turned out to be a bad cable.
Coming from the htc family, do the s2 charge ports seem to hold up better\longer?

My wife and I have had our E4GT for eight months now without any issues. I've had several other Samsung phones in my many years and never had any build issues.
Lol I even ran over my wife's phone once! Other than a few scratches there were still no issues.

I'd try a new cord first. If that doesn't work go ahead and upgrade but send me your E4GT.
I've tried everything. I guess i can try to buy a new charger to make sure, before i jump ship

Have you tried the USB cable to the PC and see if that works. If you have bought a off market charger or so, then there can be issues. Try a blackberry USB cable if you have it and see if that works. Those cables are pretty good.

Worst case scenario: Port is shot and gets no charge whatsoever = call for insurance replacement.
The port is integrated to the mainboard inside so there is no "fixing" just the port, even local cellphone repair shops won't touch it. If your phone is insured they should replace it. When I WAS with T-Mobile they replaced mine free no questions asked b/c it had been in a flood. Phone was still 99% functional other than the fact it could not charge b/c the port was shocked out. Hope this info helps

Have you gone to a Sprint service center???
Had the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago. Took it to Sprint and had a tech look at it. Got it replaced the next day.

No fixing it? If the port was just over stressed you can pretty easily solder any broken pins back on... if the port is completely shot its not that that hard to lift the broken one and replace it with a scavanged micro USB port... I just replaced a busted HDMI port on an Xbox, same principal....

One of my fires won't charge reliably. I am hoping to repair/resolder connections.
I found used motherboard for fifty dollars. Used board will be last resort.
Any pics or previous experience from anyone that might help.
Thanks

I'm not quite sure what that means exactly.
The reason I'm wondering about which ROM the affected Kindle is running, is because the ICS and JB ROMs have had a similar charging issues from the very beginning. The latest version of the kernel was released last night with the charging issue fixed. You may want to upgrade before attempting anything like soldering on your USB connection.
Hopefully it is just the known ROM issue, which has now been fixed. I had difficulty charging my KF because the USB connector was coming loose from the mb. I had a hardware engineer attempt to re-solder it but he was not successful. The connector is very small and it is very difficult to re-solder. If it is a loose USB port, and you can get it back to stock, Amazon will replace it under warranty.

Go with the used board, but be sure that they match in serial number. The earliest releases of Kindle Fires used a different motherboad connector for the LCD, and are incompatible (found out the hard way). A good case opening kit helps keep from damaging the unit.
Motherboards are very hard to come by...
In that case, buy a unit with a broken screen on ebay. Make sure it's one that still powers on and charges (many will show the lcd working below the screen. More expensive, but you can keep the battery as a spare as well.

Not sure how to identify board revision on ebay?
Ask for revision number and/or serial number and make sure that they match. Even better, get a picture of the board so that you can see they are the same.

If it is just a kindle with a broken screen someone is trying to sell, they probably arn't willing to crack it open just to check the motherboard.
Don't buy without proper info. Buyer protection only works so well.

Thanks for all the replies.
It looks like if I had a nice hot air rework station I could repair it in just a few minutes. Right now just prying on charger connection to continue charging. I may just wait for it to die completely, afraid I will kill it with soldering iron.
if you make a TWRP backup and copy it to the computer, if/when you replace the motherboard (getting cheaper as the new Kindle Fire rolls out), you can copy this bac kup folder back to the new motherboard and restore. I have done this when I get a solid working JB ROM on a system, just so that I can go back to fresh quickly and easily. Also, suggest that you use Kindle Nullifire on any board bought from anywhere, as it will zero-write the internal sd card, and avoid issues more issues than you would imagine. It's worth the extra 10-15 minutes to do so.
Of Kindles and Chargers and Broken USB Ports
Kindle Battery:
Most of the inside of your Kindle is a huge battery. It requires a ‘hefty’ charger to charge it and keep it healthy.
Chargers:
While the Kindle Fire calls out for a 1.8 amp charger, I would recommend a 2.0 amp charger for the Kindle. iPad 2 chargers, 2.0 or 2.1 amp rating, with USB ports can be used with appropriate USB micro charging cables to work really well.
Many chargers are over rated and many have cheap thin wire that cannot deliver enough amperage to the kindle port and it will not "shift" into charge mode.
A Kindle will pull about 700mA from a charger, and the charger rating printing is mostly marketing and most of them do not deliver that wattage on a constant sustained level.
Charger/USB charger cable thickness:
If using USB to USB micro data cable make sure it is a thick wire cable that can push out the current from charger to kindle. Thin charger cables are conduits of squished electron flow and will not “shift into gear” the Kindle into charging mode.
Helpful hint:
If charger is not working, power down kindle and try:
Unplug charger.
Power off kindle
Plug in charger
Kindle should wake up in "charge mode"
Having fixed many Kindles lately, I am seeing charger issues, and plugging and replugging the USB cable in cause 50% of broken USB port problems.
Hope these hints will help.

I just noticed my mini USB port is fairly loose that when the usb cable is angled at a particular direction charging stops.
I tried the same cable at two other phones and no problem. I visually inspected the port and it seems the metal that surround and supports the mini usb broke at the side making the top and bottom part separate from each other. It makes the port not a snug fit but a losse fit... And so I wonder if anyone else had this issue? I've only had my S3 for a few months and I use it roughly the same as my old phones (yes, I do use it while charging) and they didn't have this problem... Is it really that easy to break or do I seem to be mistreating it?
Note: The small pointy thing is ok, so I can still charge and do other stuff. Only issue is that it's a loose fit.

I was just dealing with this last night. It may be a little flimsy. Hopefully it doesn't get worse
I know... If it gets worse, I hope I don't get caught somewhere having unable to flash a stock rom via odin... To claim a clean warranty... Afterall, the damage is on the hardware and can be seen outside
Is it the original cable? I know my charger cable is stupid loose but my USB cable is fine.

I'll have to check with Wireless Wave where I bought the phone... Because it's either they send it for repair which would take weeks and they'd give me a crappy temporary phone... Or if I'm lucky replace it on the spot... Which I doubt... So I'll have to weigh in the options... It's not much of an issue right now but pretty sure it will be soon enough so I have to ask them soon... I'm just doing some poking around to see if other people experience this as well if it's a fairly "common" issue then they might give me a replacement if I tell them fixing wouldn't help because it may just happen again.

So I rooted and flashed SlimBean on my T-Mobile G2 a while back and that was all fine and dandy until a few days ago, the microUSB port broke. I am not sure what happened, I didn't change anything except maybe the processor in recent memory. This has happened to many devices that I have seen, but never in this way. Most devices when the port breaks, you have to wiggle the plug until it starts charging. With the G2, I plugged it into my laptop and I got a notification on my laptop that the port I plugged it into was overloaded... Any extra information would be great about this... Recently I changed it to JellyBaby, but the issue still remains. I have tried different cords, computers, and outlets and nothing has given me any response.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
oddly enough i had this issue too as soon as i used SlimBean 6.2
now my mac nor either of my pc's read my Desire Z as a USB drive and doesn't prompt me to mount as a disk. I have to use AirDroid to transfer roms now, which is a little inconvenient given the range of my router and distance to my computer.
But it STILL charges fine. I tried with 4 cables too. diferent ports. etc. different roms. different kernels.
I opened a dud Desire Z that i have that broke long time ago to see what is involved in replaceing the USB port but it's not worth me risking to break the phone I currently use and then not being able to charge it at all.
I think I remember one a small plastic object from the microUSB port flaking off. So maybe one of the data pins on the microUSB port came off and it charges but it doesn't detect data connections?
I dunno. I dont feel like it's worth it to check. When a new qwerty phone comes out i'll be happy. Hopefully it lasts long enough for that to happen (if it happens).
if you figure out the issue, let me know! I will test your findings on my phone.

Chances are the port is bad, usually if you peer inside you can see the physical damage but not always
A new port runs about 5$ sometimes less sometimes more but if you search a bit I tend to buy them at about 2$
Replacing one on this phone isn't too bad if your handy with a soldering iron, if you haven't soldered anything before or nothing this small then you may want to have someone do it for you as you can make things worse
External battery chargers are a pain but cheap, but before you invest in anything try a new cable and a new ROM and new firmware (like return to stock or change bootloader etc) if it still won't work near 100% a bad port

Well I am 15 so... No soldering for me.
I have an external battery charger along with two other batteries. That is working so far.
I have tried new:
Cables
Computers
Outlets
ROMs
I cannot try anything below 4.2.2 because I can connect to a computer to do so an do not have any Nandroid backups.
I am also experiencing major cell reception issues, and can't find a post with alternative modems. Do they exist for this phone?

Here you will find links to all things about the vision, don't look for modem the term used is radio.
You can use an external SD adapter to download ROMs from PC or download overnight directly to phone (full batt) or use apps to transfer data between PC and phone, I personally back up my data to dropbox and there tons of others that work great too.
Yeah skip the soldering, but maybe consider either paying someone to do it for you or buying a broken vision on eBay and swapping logic boards, that's easy even for the most novice
Best of luck!

Na, I mentioned you could, just many like to download to PC and keep files there. Do what's easier, in your case download to phone, nandroid, wipe clean, flash ROM
Happy flashing!

Hello, it's first time to post something on this forum
Well let me get to the topic, I have a Kindle 1st generation and after 2+ years of using I noticed that I have issues with charging, the cable is pretty much sensitive for moving and if it's moved it looses contact and my kindle doesn't recharge.
I looked in previous topic which was about soldering and stuff for USB port, but I think my problem is here is different since I took look on the port from outside and I saw that the little thingy which goes into the cable jack is broken.
So is this actually possible to be fixed, my kindle recharges but I'm not kinda able to recharge and use at same time since it wont charge properly so I have to leave it..
Thanks in advance, waiting for your replies, regards, acid.

You can get a new board off EBAY and swap it out for your faulty one. Unless you have the correct soldering equipment and 'know' what your doing, it's a b!tch to fix. Have replaced the board twice in the Wife/kids kindle. 1st time I used a set of feeler gauges to pop open the cover, but the 8$ kit you can also get on ebay makes it SO much quicker and easier. I added a bit of epoxy around the USB port this time to help prevent breakage by children again.
For around $25 you can have your Kindle's USB charging port replaced. Search ebay. I just had mine fixed.
