Water damage - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so the phone turns on, LCD screen even flickers on once in a while, it won't stay on though. And everything looks just how I left it. So I'm assuming the mother board is good, the LCD is bad/fried and the digitizer glass is ok. Would that be a safe assumption?
Now, I had two other Incredibles, one with a cracked LCD, one with a cracked digitizer. Swapped out the digitizer and as long as we put the right mother board in that went with the LCD, it worked great. So I'm assuming I can't just go buy an incredible off ebay with a cracked digitizer and swap out LCD screens? And will a "New" LCD replacement screen work? Thanks!

I don't see why another LCD screen wouldn't work, but it's really hard to say with this kind of thing without just trying it, which is what people want to avoid because throwing parts at it costs money. Its not necessarily true that the motherboard on the device is ok. Its certainly possible that it could be fried, but in a way that allows power to still get to the LCD but not control it properly. Another option would be, since you will be taking it apart anyway, inspect the motherboard or other circuitry if you can see it and look for burn marks on the board that would indicate a short circuit. You can't always see them, but it would tell you if it were bad if you can see it.

[Q] G2 Screen Issue LCD Glass Digitizer

I bought a G2 with a broken glass Digitizer. I replaced the digitizer but the LCD screen was cracked as well. So i replace that too. After replacing the glass digitizer and lcd screen the phone would respond in certain areas. SOOO I took the phone apart once more and press the LCD against the Glass digitizer which help with some of the "dead spots" on the screen. But there are still some "dead" spots here and there. Is there anything i could do to have the Lcd screen stick to the digitizer so i don't have these issues. I love my G2 but its useless at points when the multi touch is not working properly.
You should have sent it back on warranty.
Removed "Void" sticker over one of the screws
I removed one of the stickers do you think they'll notice?
no, they'll send you another one as soon as they get the tracking no. from you.

[Q] Broken Screen

I recently replaced just the broken glass screen on my evo. When I turned it on now, the screen is all black now. I hear it still working, I hear SMS and phone calls, but cant see anything. I didnt replace the entire LCD just the clear part. When I was prying the clear screen off, it was sticking to the lcd, which also was cracked. So I got the screen off but the other part came with it. I dont know if it was connected to the LCD and it was broken off or if its ok seperated. Its just the dark looks like tinted glass that goes directly over the LCD and under the clear screen (digitizer). So, can anyone tell me if maybe I damaged the LCD screen.
Thanks in advance.
So before replacing the glass/digitizer, the lcd still worked fine? Based on your description it sounds like the lcd. You may just have a loose ribbon connection...have you tried redoing the ribbons?
I'm about to dive into the same mission. Thinking twice about it now.....
Yes the glass was broken for about 1 month but it still worked fine the LCD was working. I've tried reconnecting the ribbons various times also tried connecting the old glass digitizer, but still the same result. I'm not sure if that tinted screen was part of the LCD and is now broken or if I somehow damaged something else when I was connecting it.

to tell the truth changing just the glass is definitely the cheapest route, but from what I've read is more difficult than buying the whole replacement LCD. I paid $25 on eBay but the whole LCD is closer to like $75.

So you mean it is easier to purchase a digitizer and LCD that still connected as one piece (http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Sprint-HTC-Evo-4G-LCD-p/htc736815.htm) as opposed to doing the digitizer or LCD individually? If I went that route I would just pay a 3rd party cell phone repair shop to do the work for 100 bucks...then you can hold someone else accountable.
I found the LCD here for cheap: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250782149841&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Supposed to arrive tomorrow so I will find out if the lcd is indeed the problem
thanks for that link, I may have to try that.

HTC EVO digitizer glass cracked:(

I have hardware version 0003, the display works fine just the top glass got cracked, can someone point me in the right direction for a new digitizer assembly? I found one on amazon new for 24$ but have no idea if it will work for my phone.0002 vs 0003 I read have different ribbon cables.
Sent from my EVO.
When this happened to me, I couldn't tell that the LCD had also cracked. I bought the digitizer only, and when I took apart the phone, I realized that I didn't have the parts I needed to fix it.
I can tell you that the correct P/N for the Novatel screen is 2V6A, but I am not sure of the P/N for the Epson screen. Check which screen you have by adjusting the brightness.
If when you adjust the brightness it switches with a fade effect, then you have a Novatel screen and you need the 2V6S ribbon. However, if it switches quickly and suddenly from one brightness setting to the next without a fade effect, then you have an Epson panel and you need the other ribbon cable.
So, I know it's been posted a lot in other places but I couldn't find like, a definitive answer as to if there are different digitziers? Am I just confused?
I would like to try and just replace the digitizer and glass over top of the LCD, my LCD works fine, the cracks are really thin and only a few going across diagonally. It fell from maybe 2 feet off my lap onto a parking lot surface.
I understand there is two LCD pannel types like you said, but are there two digitizer types/sizes?! for that ribbon cable.
I'm completely comfortable with taking it apart, I'm just worried I'll get the wrong part and find out the screen is also cracked and have to end up not using it for days until new stuff ships.... bleh
I've found digitizer+glass on amazon for 24-30$.
How do I adhere it to the LCD though, says doesn't include anything to do that.
EDIT: Found this gem: http://www.durapowerglobal.com/HTC-EVO-4G-Digitizer-Adhesive-_p_1166.html
Adhesive wont be a problem I just need to know about the glass/digitizer
EDIT2:
OKAY, if you want to ignore all i've said so far here is my real question of what I need to know.
http://www.durapowerglobal.com/HTC-...iginal-With-Installation-Adhesive_p_1103.html
Is there only ONE digitizer/glass piece on any given HTC EVO 4G? Or is there two different types like the LCD?

Hi,
I had to replace the screen on my defy once. It was a major chore. I ended up scratching the frame while prying off the screen (its stuck on with some pretty strong glue). I also had to use my own glue - I used water proof clear silicon. When I got it together, my Defy looked beat up. The silicon was too thick and I ended up cracking the frame near the screws.
I recently ordered the housing, screen from: www.cnn.cn . And while it was expensive, it came with a sticky outline that I used to easily replace the screen. I was able to discard the frame of my first defy with the nicks. The end results is that my defy looks like new, even though the back and side might have some nicks and cuts.
I think the store ships from HK. It took a while for it to arrive, but it usually does arrive. I'd recommend it.
-------
EDIT: I just reread and you probably will just need to replace the LCD and not the Digitizer. The Digitizer is glued on to the frame but the LCD underneath is free and pushed by the mainboard to the digitizer. You do not need to replace the digitizer in order to correct the LCD issues. In anycase, the choice is yours. CNN.cn does not sell the LCD however.

Wow thanks buddy!! The digitizer is working 100%, usable. The only problem is black dead pixel even reboot to recovery mode, the black dot still can be seen in blue wordings in recovering mode. Since the changing the LCD doesn't require changing the digitizer, That save lots of money.
Heard LCD sceen has to be OEM cos compatibe may not boot up?

I would always go with oem. The lcd is buy far way more expensive than the digitizer unfortunately. Good luck.

Messed up screen replacement, is it repairable?

So I dropped my screen a few months back and the glass cracked. It still worked $100 percent and since the glass wasn't shattered it didn't prevent me from using it. It was only annoying me so i decided to order a new glass and replace the glass. During this replacement I completely ****ed the phone up.
From what I understand there are 3 separate pieces, the LCD, the touchscreen digitizer, and the glass itself. I was supposed to pull the glass apart from the digitizer but instead pulled both up leaving only the lcd behind. In the process I completely shattered both glass and digitizer and severed a ribbon cable.
I couldn't link to an imgur album and the images were too large to attach so i put them in a rar file. As you can see in the pictures my new glass is completely transparent and the old broken one has a tint to it, and an extra layer attached. That was how I came to the conclusion it was the digitizer. I have tried to see if I could just replace the digitizer but all the pictures I've seen don't show the cable that I severed. I have no idea what that cable does, only that it was connected to the tinted portion of the glass.
Important to note is that the phone works. I hear it power on and if i get a notification it plays the sound and vibrates no issue. I just can't SEE anything. Does this mean the LCD is broken too? Or will it only power up when it has the digitizer attached? Is this repairable, if so, how? if not, where did I go wrong?
At this moment I am not due for an upgrade til June, and I don't have more than $100 to spend on a replacement so if I can I'd like to fix this one to both save money and not have to downgrade to a lesser phone.

You can buy a replacement screen with a digitizer attached but it will cost over $100 and the way your phone is now it may not be worth doing yourself. You can get a pro install for around $200. You may want to wait for your upgrade then.

Yeah I was hoping there was a cheap fix but I screwed myself. I ended up buying one off eBay that has a bad charging port for $100. I'm just going to swap the mobo and I should be good to go.
Sucks I had to spend the money, it was a gift from my brother for a birthday tattoo, butit's a learning experience. If I ever try to tackle a glass replacement again I know what NOT to do.
