Does anyone know if this will also work with a tablet running Jelly Bean etc?

I've got a gs3 and a nexus 7, two questions on this:
1) Do you need to plug any dongle into the phone (or tablet)?
2) Does this work with the Nexus 7 too?
No need to plug anything in your phone, only hdmi from the dongle to your tv and a power cord. As it uses sgs3 or note 10.1 own allshare cast ability you won't be able to start the mirroring from a out of the box galaxy nexus or nexus 7, no allshare on pure android.

Im actually on Nexus 7 4.2.2 + Kensuke miracast mod. Samsungs Allshare Cast Dongle is fully workling with Nexus 7!
I think it should work provided your phone has the allshare cast app.

allshare cast or miracast is said to work as mentioned beforehand. stock nexus does not have allshare cast app as no TW framework. and btw, good to hear that it works with Nexus 7 as I just got mine (2013 version).
for a thread with more details about the dongle go here instead of spreading the information .

I know it's not HD just standard composite vid and stereo but does anyone have a lead to give it a whirl. I remember it worked on the Original Galaxy i9000..

No, that is very dated nowadays for phones made this year. Most have mini-HDMI or MHL adapters that use the micro USB slot to output video. The Galaxy Note needs MHL adapter to have HDMI out.
Composite connection is available on practically any TV especially when we travel, however HDMI is obviously available only on the HDTVs which might not be accessible while travelling to remote places, so its a good thing to have a regular composite output in your pocket. I know unfortunately nothing could be done in this regards other than to look for an HDMI to composite/component converters.

More expansive electronic on the device, more the device will cost:
If you travel, you can buy this converter:

Is this an mental idea. I have a TV out lead from a previous HTC Touch Pro. Mini USB connector. Could I just use a mini, to micro USB adapter and get the GNote to broadcast out that way, or wouldn't it do anything?
I've even seen a 3.5m out lead '3.5mm to RCA TV out cable, composite' Works on the Galaxy S.
Or can't you get anything to any kind of TV at all and the only option is an MHI to HDMI lead to a TV that can take HDMI (Samsung make one, it's about 20 Euro).
Other option is, I have no idea what I'm talking about, at all....
Hi, after a long search for a keyboard, I arrive to the conclusion that a powered usb keyboard would be the best solution for the Note.
- Size matter: the size of the Apple BT Keyboard is right;
- Used wth a keyboard, the Note becomes a sort of smartbook: it will be used more intensively, and the internal battery will quickly be out! Then, a battery integrated in the keyboard, in the way the Transformer Prime has done, would be an excellent solution. A power of 25Wh would be a solid basis.
- offer the possibility to use the Note in portrait and landscape;
- integrate a detachable stand, with a flat usb cable to use it conveniently on a desktop or on the go.
- the possibility to charge the keyboard and the Note with the Note charger.
- integration of a MHL port to use an external screen, or, better, integrate a housing for the xBounds solution from Dream Chip (much more powerful than MHL).
Do you have some wish for a keyboard which permit to use the Note to its full potential? This is a sketch!
What is your opinion and needs?
i bought this keyboard and its very nice

Maybe others will need it, but I don't need it.
I already have a tablet for that.
I use my Note more as a phone than a tablet.
Swype is fine for me.
@entropy96
I understand your (lack of) need.
For me, I didn't want to have a phone, a tablet, a netbook, a laptop, a computer, a server...
The Note is a phone and a tablet: with a good keyboard and an external display, i guess it could be used as a netbook (or a smartbook). The soft AlwaysOnPC (on Samsung Apps Store) give access to a full Linux.
I don't know if it's possible to use it, but it's worth to try. And this kind of use will be strengthened by ICS.
In this context, a powered usb keyboard would be a very useful accessory!
@shigwegi
I was also using the Apple bt keyboard (with Nokia n8).
It works very fine, but if I begin to use the Note as a phone and a tablet, I will discharge the battery very quickly!
A powered usb keyboard would allow to charge the phone battery and use the phone without restriction during a full day.
This is what I plan on using once my adapter arrives. Has an integrated ball mouse and mini-USB dongle:
Found it?
A very nice proposition!
I don't know if it's possible to charge the Note and connect the keyboard with the usb, or if you must use the bluetooth connection.
Pros
- the huge battery (10000mah)
- the finition which seems quite good
- the price not too high
Cons
- the size is perhaps a bit too small
- the weight a bit high (415gr)
Does somebody tried this combo?
Nice got one of those already as a htpc remote. i wouldnt want to do much typing on it.

I have of course, MHL works fine.
What I wonder is if it will be possible for any dev to make a rom where you can disable mirroring and only use external display at higher resolution. T3 can do 1080 or more but maybe specific drivers are needed.

Does the phone have to be plugged in? Does/will otg work with the hdmi adapter?
Reason being instead of carrying around my PO BOX I just bring a HDD and the mhl cable.

OTG will NOT work with MHL, they are mutually exclusive connections in this first MHL-spec (they are looking at things like that in it's first revision).
The phone has to be plugged in to a power source unless you have an MHL television/monitor, several are available on the market now, but most people will have to use a power connection simultaneously in order for it to work.
In the revision you talk about. Will that be hw and sw or just sw. Will our phones be capable of otg and mhl in the future?
Thanks for your reply

I've got one of these but it's only giving me 720 resolution.
WHen I plug an Evo 3D in, it gives 1080
Why is this?

Also it has a HDMI port.
Price about 29€.
It's not at official ASUS site yet.
I like both of them. Waiting to see if it gets released in the states.

As it seems to me, it is only one dock with two possible orientations.
29€ for HDMI and dock seems very nice.

Want for nightstand!
Use Nokia DT-910 (available for dirt cheap from an ATT store or eBay). Charges my N5 (portrait) and my N7 LTE (landscape) with no issues whatsoever (other than a slower charge due to lower output).

Normal OTG Cables for other smartphones will work on Firephone?
OTG is not supported by the Kernel. The (sad) end.
edit: It's disabled on purpose (ofc.) since Amazon is usually only interested in allowing content coming in from their paid platforms.
It's quite disappointing.. I've asked Amazon support about it and been told that it should be in one of the next updates (probably will never happen). So my other question was about OTG cable for FF sold on and by Amazon (can't find it now). Support guy told me that he can't say if it works or not. I can try to buy it and will see.. Is he kidding? Order cable for about 10 pounds and not sure if it works? Thank you, support team
