Alright guys, I'll try this again. Okay so my kindle fire is bricked, stuck on fastboot, I believe. It is not recognized by the computer at all. Anyway to unbrick? Thanks
This is the best way to communicate with it if your computer will not detect it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850038 make a live usb with persistent.
Didn't I try to help you with this?
Edit: at any rate you can launch firekit by typing soupkit.sh in a terminal then select the option for firekit. There is a bootmode reset script that will tell your kindle to boot to normal mode... This is after you have exhauted efforts with resetting the bootmode with kfu and from command prompt...As well if you are truly bricked then you will need the above items to fix it..
I could not make a live USB , but I have a very interesting idea. Could I modify the kindle fire file system through otg connected with my nexus 7

Most likely, not. I've tried to run fastboot from Terminal Emulator on the Kindle Fire and it never panned out. You could try it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up...
not likely... why could you not make a live usb?
Not entirely sure, I had it all installed, but there was an error. Haven't bothered to try since

Here test this iso http://db.tt/KDNzyCTP I will post instructions next
Instructions:
1. Download this http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/
2. Download iso
3. Preformat usb in windows
4. Select try unlisted Linux iso from the very bottom of dropdown in universal usb installer
5. Select iso
6. Select usb drive letter
7. Tick format
8. Create
9. Eject safely and remove
10. Shut down computer
11. Insert and power on computer
12. Select boot from usb and use..
I think if it's in fastboot mode you can switch it back. Did you install ADB drivers?
But be careful if you don't have FireFireFire bootloader and you system does not boot.
I think the best way is to install FFF bootloader and TWRP before all experiments.
Look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638452
1) Install the TWRP recovery...
Then if you want to restore stock remember that it will wipe out the bootloader again.
adb and fastboot is already setup on the iso as well as teamviewer is preinstalled just launch teamviewer by typing teamviewer7 in a terminal maybe you will get lucky and soupmagnet will be kind enough to assist you but I cant speak for him...
If your on linux you can plug kf to comp and type lsusb. If "lab126" pops up then most likely you will be able to recover it. BTW. What exactly did you do that bricked it? ICan you send it fastboot commands? If you have usb debugging set up on your comp for the kindle fire then you could test if you can get a fastboot command to go through. Turn kindle off and unplug it then type fastboot reboot. It should say waiting for device. Then plug kf into comp while its off. The kf will turn on automatically. If the fb command works then the device will reboot. If that works tell me and ill tell u what you can do next.
Guys, I got my computer to recognize it as an adb interface. What should I do now
In windows or using Linux? If your in windows shift+ right click on the tools folder in kfu select open command window here, then type adb devices, if you get a string type adb shell and see if you get an error message.
Fixed it guys. It will not let me root though, I have twrp and a fire fire fire boot loader installef. It says that I can not install super user, and that it can't rename a folder

Install a ROM.
I will be able to install a rom without root?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You don`t have to be rooted to flash a rom and all roms are rooted. how to flash a rom:
1. Transfer rom.zip and matching gapps.zip to your sdcard in zip form. ( Matching gapps as in the correct one for Gingerbread ,ICS or Jelly Bean there`s one designed for each system)
2. When in recovery wipe factory reset , wipe cache , wipe dalvik , wipe system.
3. Flash rom.zip , flash gapps.zip , when done select reboot then system if prompted.
Cool great. I will try

Hi everyone, I tried to root the kindle fire 1st gen and accidentally wiped the sdcard...So now I'm stuck in TWRP with no rom or backup. I tried to transfer files from pc to kindle, but the computer does not recognize the kindle anymore. Please give me some suggestions, thank you!
PS: My system is win 8 x64, installed KFU and android SDK. KFU shows online when the kindle fire logo shows up (it stucks there) but the boot mode is unknown. Also I can't use adb while the device is in recovery (trwp) mode.

I think it's the whole system...not too sure about that though. Now the problem is I can't connect to the pc while in twrp recovery (adb won't work), and if I booted normally, the adb will work.
Tom
First of all don't worry as long as your TWRP is working.
I did the same thing while changing one rom to another, accidentally wiped everything.
What you need to to do is
1. Download KF rom. I like twa's rom and gapps zip on your computer.
2. Connect your Kindle fire to your windows desktop.
3. Start the KF, go into TWRP recovery.
4. Click mount option. Now you should see KF as usb drive in your windows desktop.
5. Paste both rom and gapps into backup folder, which is inside TWRP folder.
6. Eject the KF usb drive successfully and THEN click unmount option on the Kindle fire display.
7. Now in TWRP screen, go to install option, go to the copied Rom and install it, gapps- install it and clean catches and dalvinick catches and reboot the system.
8. This should start the KF with new rom. Now through file manager app, go back to backup folder in TWRP and move to other location, if you want.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. however, I tried this method but the computer does not recognize kindle fire as a usb. Actually kindle fire is gone from the computer and adb not working. Do you know why it's like this? Thank you for your time.
That is strange.
Can you try connecting it to another computer? May be it might work.

This worked for me - key was that I needed to use the usb drivers in his signature. This allowed me to atb over anyway - still can't see it on computer as a usb device.
I'm facing a similar issue but my device is Moto G5s Plus.
The problem I'm facing is that I accidently wiped out the mobile's system completely, and now it does not even have an "internal storage" partition at all (since it shows 0 MB). Hence, I cannot even transfer any files to my mobile because my computer does show the phone detected but no "internal storage exists".
Please help me out..

The device has to be in fastboot mode to show up via fastboot.exe
Regarding your issues flashing the bootloader/TWRP, try using FireFlash, an apk that automates the process of flashing the exploitable bootloader and TWRP, using the freedom boot.img and TWRP files from the thread you mentioned in your post They can be anywhere on the device storage.
Stick the FireFlash apk on the device storage, install it with ES File Manager, plug in the freedom boot.img into the boot slot and the TWRP img into the recovery slot, check the box to flash 8.1.4 bootloader if you aren't already using it (red letters will warn you if you aren't) and check apply stack override. also check disable auto recovery update. execute the flash, and you're done. You can also use FireFlash to easily update TWRP later on if you like.

If you are not seeing the blue logo, then the 2nd-bootloader / freedom boot / twrp img is not installed correctly.
I will post a small set of instructions in a few mins. But they require you have a working fastboot connection.

My point is that it is crucial to have proper drivers present and working BEFORE you even get into fastboot mode.
I would recommend you go back and re-read Hashcode's thread. Back up your system files before modifying anything, so you can go back if anything goes wrong.

but if something goes wrong, without the fastboot mode you can not recover anything the same right?
Surely my mistake was not to test the fastboot. Why can not I work in the device?? for drivers?
I think my kindle volume button is broken. Every time I reboot the device it always enter safe mode.
I reflash the device to stock but the problem still appear, now I want to back to custom rom but I cannot get in to TWRP (the volume up button not working) so I stuck at blue logo.
Fastboot and ADB still working.
Is there any way to install CM10.1 using fastboot/adb only without TWRP?
You can still get into twrp without using volume button, you just need to run adb on your PC with your kindle connected and adb enabled as follows:
adb reboot recovery
Or try
adb shell "su -c 'reboot recovery'"
If it is the second one u can run it from a mobile terminal app on the kindle, just take off the adb shell part.
Once you have cm installed I know for a fact you can reboot into recovery from the shutdown menu, but u have to enabled developer stuff on cm after u flash it. You can tell I'm half asleep when I can't remember the proper term and say "stuff"... Anyways if you want feel free to try what I suggested or search around for what I suggested. I am going to bed.

TWRP problem
Hello people
First of all thanks Hashcode for putting so much effort into it
I ran into a little bit of problem
First off regarding the BLUE LOGO
I first get ORANGE then BLUE n then ORANGE again with the animation
Second regarding TWRP
I can't seem to get into recovery while pressing the volume up button
It gives me a bad boot kinda error n then takes me to Fastboot mode
I hope you guys can help me out with this
Thanks
EDIT
Thanks to the above post i was able to enter recovery
Now it gives me two options
1 reboot kindle
2 reset to factory defaults
Question : How do i install CM 10.1 from there
You apparently didn't follow the instructions in the 2nd bootloader thread very well because you seem to have skipped a step.
To further explain what soupmagnet means, you didn't flash twrp to your recovery, that's the stock amazon recovery and is completely useless.

I entered every command perfectly
Do i need to re flash TWRP????
If so , HOW???
Background
1) got this kindle fire for my mom a month or two after it first released, the dev scene was very new back then and I did a basic root so that I can sideload some stuff onto it to get around the amazon store
2) adb and fastboot should have been installed back then (i recall doing an adb push)
------
Problem
1) I needed to flash a new rom that'll properly support youtube for my mom. After some reading, it seemed like the first thing i need to do was install FFF and TWRP
2) I downloaded the KFU, hit install FFF and then it reboot to the orange kindle fire logo (not blue, not flickering or anything else)
3) from here, I can't really do anything. the KFU and unbrick utility both cannot detect it (error: device not found or "waiting for device")
4) I followed a thread and went into the .android folder to add the needed lines to a file, and then to the folder in programsx86 and added a few lines, this made it so when i plugged in the stuck logo my computer made a badoop sound (which it didn't before)
5) If i try typing fastboot or adb into my cmd prompt, it just says its not recognized as a command even though i'm sure it should be installed
At this point, from my understanding...
I need to get into fastboot somehow (i'm not sure if i need a factory cable to do this)
and then try to go from there?
I'm very unfamiliar with working with fastboot and adb, i only have previous experience with my galaxy phones which never used any of these, so clear instructions are greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the long post,
Thank you for any help
L
To use adb or fastboot you need to cd ("change directory") in command prompt.
Ex. cd: C:\Users\Admin\Program Files.... etc, ad nauseum to wherever you installed KFU. You can also open up the folder where kfu is installed and drag adb.exe or fastboot.exe directly into command prompt.

Yep! One quick tip: It's always a good idea to make a backup before flashing anything, just in case of something possibly going bad.

This is going to be a pain to type on my phone... plug the device in while off, keep the device manager open when doing this, it should briefly show up as a jem device, when it does right click it and hit update driver, point it to where you will have downloaded and extracted the driver in my signature. Once you install the drivers, shut it off and unplug it, you will need to open a command prompt that's cd'd into a directory like kffa where you can run a fastboot command. Then run
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
it should say waiting for device, once it does plug your kindle in, it should go into fastboot mode and you can restore with kffa.

Thanks works Now if i want to have original Amazon OS with Root, TWRP and Play Store what i can do?
Think there's an old Amazon os flashable zip in the dev section. Might be pre-rooted. You can always root it with binary's root if not and install the playstore with kffa or something. I personally prefer running a custom rom over stock any day. Much better interface on cm based rooms compared to amazon's os. Only downside is lack of prime video.

Hello,
I have the exact same problem as the original poster with my Kindle Fire HD 8.9". I tried downloading the drivers in your description. I connect the kindle and try to update the drivers for Jem-PVT-Prod-04. I direct my computer to install the drivers that I extracted, however it returns an error saying that "the hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering." I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, this is my first time trying to root android. Thanks so much for the help!
You need to disable driver signature enforcement. Look it up on Google, I don't know the procedure offhand because I don't use windows 8.

Hello. I know this thread is old but I just stumbled across it and want to restore my mom's Kindle HD 8.9. I was able to install the drivers for Jem-PVT-Prod-04 when it showed really quick on the device manager. When I try the CMD "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" from the command prompt it takes me to the desktop folder where the Zip file is located and I had already unzipped the KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4.
I tried running the SR Tool and my Kindle was off. I had selected Enable Fastboot. When it prompted me to turn on I did and it prompted DAEMON. So nothing was going on So I decided to start from the beginning.
When I plug in the Kindle Windows 10 prompts like it recognizes the device but the JEM PVT is no longer popping up in the Device Manager under OTHER Devices like the first time. I checked the Registry to remove any trace of the JEM and it isn't even in there. I tried to remove other devices.
Sorry for the long story. Can I just use the SR Tool to wipe out the Data and Cache once I redo everything from my second PC and install the Kindle OS from Amazon's website to restore the Device from the loop? It is not blue. Is there another link with step by step instructions or a You Tube Video for noob like me? I used to be good at this but my skills have really regressed.
Thank you
Frank
I got the Kindle Fire 2 a few years ago as my first Android device. I stupidly used N2AOS (now PerfectlyAndroid.com) to install Cyanogenmod 10 (I think it was 10). After a while I got fed up with the bad battery life, so I tried to use their restore tool to go back to the Amazon ROM, but it failed somehow. Since then, the device will boot up to a Kindle Fire logo then a Fastboot screen with a red and green light blinking.
I've since become a lot more knowledgeable about how custom ROMs work, but I still can't find a way to fix this thing. ADB and Fastboot don't recognize it, even with the Amazon and generic drivers installed. There's only one button, so there's no real way to get into Fastboot that I can see. Recently, I decided to try and fix it again, and I picked up a Fastboot cable, but the device is still not recognized by Windows or Linux so it doesn't matter. Any ideas on how I can get a working recovery and Android installation on this thing?
Are you using the command "fastboot -i 0x1949 <insert command here> "? Since the Kindle Fire tablets aren't manufactured by Google, you have to put a custom USB id so it will be recognized by ADB/Fastboot.

Interesting, I hadn't tried that yet, but unsurprisingly it doesn't work. It just says waiting for device forever.

Which ADB drivers do you have installed? I have the official amazon ADB drivers which you can download through Android SDK. I have a kindle fire 2 and a kindle fire hd 8.9" and those are the only drivers that work with both devices. If you don't have those, I can tell you how to get them.

If you don't have the official drivers, here's how you get them:
Let's start by uninstalling the drivers you already have.
1. For Windows 7 or newer, open your start menu and type "device manager" and press enter. For Windows XP, open your start menu and open control panel and switch to classic view. Select device manager. If you have your Kindle connected, it should show up as "ADB Composite Interface" or something along those lines.
2. Right-click your Kindle and select "Uninstall". If it shows up as otter2, then you don't have the ADB drivers installed.
3. Disconnect your Kindle.
Now, let's install the official drivers.
1. Install Android SDK. Link: https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other (Download the zip)
2. Extract the zip to your desktop.
3. Open SDK Manager.exe and once it loads, select Tools and Manage Add-On Sites then select User Defined Sites.
4. Click New and put this in the box: https://s3.amazonaws.com/android-sdk-manager/resist/addon.xml
5. Scroll down and select Kindle Fire USB Driver
6. Click Install x Packages (x being the number of packages you have selected) and wait for it to finish downloading.
7. Close SDK Manager and go to the extras folder then amazon then kindle_fire_USB_driver and then run KindleDrivers.exe. Wait for it to finish.
8. Open device manager and right click your kindle and select Update drivers and browse my computer and pick from a list of drivers
9. Select ADB Composite Interface and click next. It will pop up with a warning saying Windows can't verify that its compatible with your device. Just click yes to install it.
10. You should be able to use fastboot or ADB now.
If something goes wrong, tell me what step you were on and what went wrong and I will try to fix it.

I'm already using the Amazon drivers from the SDK, and I've already tried the generic Android ADB drivers. Same result. Both with and without drivers installed, it shows up as Otter2-Prod4 in the device manager, under "other devices".

That means the drivers aren't installed correctly. Reinstall them.

I've done the steps again carefully, but ADB Composite Interface doesn't appear in the list of available driver types in Device Manager. There is an entry for Android USB Devices, but it only includes HTC Devices, presumably because I've used a One M8 with this computer in the past.

Try to uninstall your HTC drivers temporarily, as those drivers may be conflicting with the Kindle drivers

Any idea how I would do that? I don't have the HTC phone anymore and nothing HTC-related shows up under Programs and Features in Windows.

For why it would conflict with your Kindle drivers, some devices have similar device definitions, so your computer might be thinking that your Kindle is your old HTC device.
For you not having the HTC device anymore, I don't know how HTC drivers are installed, so I can't really tell you how to manually uninstall them. Try searching online how to uninstall them manually.

It worked! Fastboot detects the device as 6F12000600000001!
Unfortunately the TWRP site seems to be down right now, so I can't act on it, but thank you so much for the help.

Well, TWRP.me is up again, but it seems like they don't actually have a build for otter2. I found a blog here: http://tipsstrips.blogspot.com/2015/02/install-twrp-on-amazon-kindle-fire-2nd.html
with an old download for a TWRP build for it as well as a bootloader and boot image, but when I flash them with fastboot as decribed, it says that the flash succeeded but the Kindle still only displays the Fastboot screen with the blinking light. Any ideas?
Have you tried using fastboot -i 0x1949 oem recovery?

Yes, it just reboots to the same Fastboot screen.

There is the option to reset boot options from the second bootloader, but from what you're saying it's just booting straight to fastboot mode... Try and flash the stock partitions back on your Kindle and then see what happens.

Any idea where I can find a stock image? I don't remember backing it up when I initially used N2AOS over 3 years ago.
Accually, try this: fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 1
Some people have said that this fixes the problem of booting to recovery/fastboot right away
Just as a disclaimer, that command I gave you is VERY powerful and might mess up your Kindle even more than it already is, so I'm not responsible if doing that command permanently bricks your Kindle, you are the one responsible since you were the one that decided to go through with issuing this command...
Let's cross our fingers and hope that this works!

I ran it because I'm not too concerned about losing this thing since it's been nonfunctional for a long time.
The command finished and nothing happened. I tried rebooting and running fastboot -i 0x1949 oem recovery and it still just boots to the Fastboot screen.

Well... I don't really know where you can get backups of the stock partitions. If you had a Kindle Fire HD 8.9", that would be a different story, as I still have my backups of the stock partitions. Try to search around for tools to restore your Kindle, or even better, the stock partitions themselves.
