Since I usually only download ROMs and modify them for myself in a simple manner I am forced to ask this here, and not the ROM dev section, due to "not enough posts".
I am running a rooted HTC Desire Z, the ROM is Andromadus Mimicry 1.4.0 stable. This is not my first Cm9 based ROM, before ICS I was running official ports of CM7 (up to the newest nightly) as well.
Question:
Is there a way to change a setting in Mimicry, to make the device not unlock the screen while I slide the keyboard? I remember CM7 had this option somewhere, The phone sometimes flips while I take it out from my pocket, and unlocks the screen upon that. I hope this is understandable. I need the Desire Z not to unlock itself upon opening keybard (want it to flip the screen, backlight on, lock screen still on). Is there an option burried somewhere in the menu? Or the ROM simply lacks that option? Thx in advance for any reply.

I don't believe that option exists. Post in the Mimicry forum asking it to be added as a feature
Like I said previously, I do not have persmission to access replying in development sections, since I got a 10 post limit to reach, and I don't want to travel from sub-forum to sub-forum spamming random posts to achieve that -.-

I'm aware this should go in the virtuous thread, but with <10 posts I am not allowed to do so. I figured a mod would rather simply merge this with that than deal with pointless spam to work up to an arbitrary limit.
Anyway, running Virtuous Mod+Kernel on my Indian model Desire Z (there is no Australian unlocked model available at this time), all works fine, battery is lovely, etc - the only issue is that the accelerometer stops working a few (10-20) minutes after booting. Rebooting temporarily fixes the issue so I doubt it's hardware (and yes I've tried a sharp tap at various angles!). I didn't notice this at all under stock, nor (I think, my memory is not too good at temporal ordering) before installing the Virtuous custom kernel - previously I was using the stock kernel with virtuous mod. A quick grep through dmesg yields nothing of note, but I don't know what the module is called so I may not be searching for the right keywords.
I have googled and thread searched and forum searched - the only similar issue I found was some guy running Virtuous on the Incredible with the same problem.
Is there any way to re-initialize the accelerometer without a reboot? This would make troubleshooting easier, if nothing else.
BUMP: for reference, it seems to be related to the Maps live wallpaper. Can't really be bothered flashing back to stock to see if it's really a Virtuous thing.
Same problem on unmodded Desire Z, not using the google maps live wallpaper or whatever. Was fine before the last firmware update.
Hello there!
I've been using my Desire Z for a long time but found the trackpad pretty useless. This is because i found the sensitivity for it pretty low so if i want to scroll down on a page it's taking forever. I also noticed if i scroll using a piece of cloth (like my shirt) the scrolling is alot faster and usable. But it's not that nice using cloth all the time.
My girlfriend has just got an new phone the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro. It also has an optical trackpad which is alot faster and usable. Also in the settings there is an option to make the trackpad faster more sensitive.
Is there any kind of application or modification to make the trackpad faster sensitiver or so?
Please let me now .
Regards
Edit: whoops i forgot to add [Q] in the topics name and i have no idea how to edit this.
Finally a topic regarding this issue!
I noticed that using certain (mostly newer, modded - CM7 for example) ROMs, the trackpad responsivess is great.
However, recently I flashed to modded stock ROM (Virtuous G-Lite) and I also find the trackpad quite useless :/
Been searching the internet for reason or solution, but found nothing
Hope to find the answer!
So if the sensitivity differs in different ROMS it's editable in a file or so. So i think it would be possible for an smart developer to create an app that edit's the values in the file to change the sensitivity with a nice slider as GUI.
Hopes it will be there someday .
I could not agree more about the trackpad, it makes me want the responsiveness of my old G1 with the trackball (but that design is prone to fail because moisture/foreign objects can easily get underneath the ball).
Would love to see some sort of customization for trackpad sensitivity become mainstream for custom roms.
I've experienced the same problem with the following ROMs:
CM 7.1.0 Stable
Virtuous v2.0.0
Virtuous G-Lite 1.6
So it's happening on AOSP and Sense based ROMs.
Just flashed G2-Slim 1.2 (see my sig for link), which seems to be the same AOSP ROM as Virtuous G-lite, but the sensitivity responsiviness seems much better.
I have no idea how the hell can it be different..
Maybe different kernels affect this?
I'm also using the G-slim ROM for a couple of days now and besides I really like the ROM the trackpad is indeed faster. But still not as fast as I would like. Let's hope some dev. Check this thread out an can help us what makes the difference in sensitivity for the trackpad!
I remember before back on android 2.2 when using the trackpad through texts depending on how fast I swiped would determine how many letters or words it would move. But now especially with roms like cm7 no matter what it'll only move over 1 letter =/ a setting to adjust sensitivity in future roms would be amazing

That's exactly my problem! I don't want to move one letter if i like to i want to move 5 letters or scroll (fast) to the beginning with the trackpad. Just like it is on blackberry's or on the Samsung Galaxy Y PRO. My girlfriend get's the galaxy y pro on her birthday (27th of December) it runs gingerbread stock and has got an sensitivity option in the settings. Maybe i can break that functionality and put it in our phones. I don't know if it will work tho because the trackpad maybe differs. Still hoping a developer will look at this thread and help us out!

I think Virtuous moving to rootzwiki HAS a reason.
I don't know how wise it is to "mirror" them here.
Don't get me wrong, I want much more publicity for the Primadonna ROM, too.
I just don't know if this is the right way to do it.

i think im not doing anything wrong. i give all credits to everyone and i write that this is just info. also i post their web sites. finally if they want to remove the thread for some reason that i am in fault i will do it. (sry for my english)
did you ask them if you could make a thread?
Why does he need to ask, guys? Did those who started threads about CM releases (I mean the official CM 7.1, nightlies, RCs etc not the unofficial CM-based ROMs) need to ask the CM team first?
It's not like he's claiming to be a developer, he's just passing on the info, and has said that if Virtuous want to start their own thread then he will stop updating this one.
No disrespect to the Virtuous team, but if they've decided (for whatever reason) not to post about their ROM on XDA, why shouldn't someone else be able to share ?

i read the rules and im thinking that im not doing smth rong. Is the same when other peoples posts roms or guides from other websites in xda. sinse i gave credits and posts their links etc i think is ok. if virtuous team dont want to post in xda is other subject.
To be honest as long as we dont get complaints from the Rom's authors and as long as all credits are given then I see no reason not to let this thread exist.
If virtuous tem complains about it though, it will be an issue...
Cheers
PS. Mind you that if the rom is using a custom kernel, Complete sources are to be posted in the OP...

Why would the Virtuous team complain unless it looked like someone was trying to claim credit for their ROM ? I guess the (presumed) lack of any dev input in this thread would be incentive enough for people to visit Rootzwiki, assuming that's what the Virtuous team want ? Though threads on official CM ROMs seem to do fine without official dev input, just regular users helping each other out.
Reading this back it sounds a bit like I'm trying to argue, but I'm just confused. I would have thought that the more publicity for their ROM the better ? Or am I just being naive ?

Hello!
I have noticed a weird bug with my phone - phone will go unresponsive after day or so of work. Sometimes the screen will lit, but the phone will be VERY slow, to the state of being unusable. Sometimes the display will not even turno on when I press the power button. Anyway, I have to remove the battery to restart it.
Last time I saw such behaviour, it was my Kindle3, and it was weird power drain issue.
Has anyone had this issue before? I searched the ROM threads and nothing. The phone was bought and used in Europe (BG).This phone is more than 2 years old , hardware problem is a possibility, too
Please report if you know something. Advice me how to log these issues, too?
In general the phone becomes like that when free RAM goes below 80 MB. I've seen this on many AOSP ROMs like you said. I don't remember if it happens on Sense ROMs too, but Sense is quite slow anyway. I usually fix it by clearing out all apps in the Recent apps list.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Any automated solution to it, then?
I mean, something like close all running user apps, clear cash and RAM and so on. I know that task killers claim to do it, but they are more trouble than help!
Can anyone suggest something tired and working? I cant upgrade to 4.1 cos I need BT
Not that I know of. You can try enabling 'Don't keep activities' in Settings>Developer options. That will leave your RAM free, but it'll take longer for each app to open because it clears it from RAM each time you exit the app. So it'll affect multitasking too. Alternatively, you can try to reduce the number of background processes in the corresponding option. In my opinion none of these solutions are worth it. Just swipe away all the recent apps whenever your phone slows down.
You can use the codefireX 4.1.2 periodicals if you want a fully working 4.1 JB ROM. Development has stopped for it because the dev synergye is now developing 4.2.1, but the last SR5 version is very stable, and everything works including Bluetooth. You can even enable a 'kill all' button in the recent apps panel to clear all the apps at once.

4.1.2 has an issue with the speaker phone. I usually have to drive around the city and have to talk during that time, so I rely on BT and speakerphone. I will limit the number of processes and give it a try. If everything else fails, I can go back to CNM7(UGLY!! but STABLE!!!), and wait for BT to be fixed.
It seems that the phone will fall back to default option for number of activities kept every time I reboot it, any way to fix that?
Oh yeah it had that issue. You can also try ViperDHD ROM if you're okay with HTC Sense or go back to CM7 like you said.
Another ROM option is aospX from the HTC Inspire 4G forum. It's a great AOSP ICS ROM and BT has no issues on it as far as I know.

AOSP 4.0 is not an option, phone going on strike. I love the aospx ROM, but it is kind of annoying to have to restart when you need to call a client or something in a huury
I will try and go de-sense with Viper, probably, not many options left. I am not happy at all with Sense, dont know why I bought OneX anyway. To be honest, if I see press release about Nexus4 32GB I will sell it and keep DHD as a backup. I still have to use two phones for two months, and will sill what will happen. Till then, I will have to bit the bullet and live with either sense or CNM 7
Thank you for the support!!! Have a happy new
PS trying to limit the number of processes does not work
Happy new year to you too.
I've never used the limit number of background processes option before, so no clue about that.
I see in your signature you're waiting for official CyanogenMod (CM is the acronym ) for your One X. It's already there - http://get.cm/?device=endeavoru
Right now there are only nightlies though, but you can still use them as they're quite stable. A milestone release and a stable version should be out soon also. One X is a great phone and works brilliantly with AOSP, except the camera. The Sense camera image quality may be better (don't know till you try, I haven't experimented with it too much). Also, if you do flash CM/any AOSP ROM for your One X, use it with the NCX kernel. I've heard it gives the best battery life.

I will wait till something is marked stable at at least MR I have a phone to trouble my sleep with, and this is the DHD. I need one to be solid as rock. I already have 4.1 on One X, so everything I need to run on it runs, but I have a lot of unneeded HTC stuff under the cover running.
It's a pity that nexus is not around here, and the expected prise is going to be round 550 euro! It is not just overpriced, this is a [email protected]#ing robbery!
Sorry to ask all these questions, but I can't seem to have become very confused by getting an HTC One M8, being so used to the Nexus purity and ease of unlocking- I have done various searches but people always seem quite convoluted in answers :s Sorry!
Q1: Is it possible to get back to HTC Factory settings to the original, OEM locked state, with Sense 6 and with no evidence it was ever unlocked and rooted? I was a touch freaked out by the 'Tampered with" writing on the HBoot screen.
Q2: Is the red writing dealt with here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53899551 Standard for EVERYONE who unlocks their HTC? It's not anything to worry about?
Q3: Does Xposed work on Stock sense?
Q4: The only thing I think I might be missing from Sense is the battery saving modes, which seem to be very well calibrated for the phone. is there anything similar and downloadable out there? (Both normal battery saving and extreme)- sometheing that intelligently dials down theprocessor and brightness but doesn't just disable mobile data, for example. I also love the camera app, and Sense Gallery app- but I care less because they don't affect my phone getting me through the day.
Q5: (Subjective perhaps): would you say Sense 6 is worse on battery life substantially? Ie, If I'm on CM11 it should be better battery life than sense anyway right? So those battery saver modes are less important for me?
Q6: Where can I find information about 'default' settings for stock, locked HTC (on sense and/or playstore edition):
-Governors
-Mpdescision on or off?
-Clock speeds
Q7:Another reason I got confused. I thought things like swipe to wake were built in to the ROM or Kernel, so when I put Carbon rom on my phone I was expecting it to not be on by default, because that was the case with my N4. But they are on so does that mean that the Carbon Rom devs have purposefully built it in to keep similar to HTCs stock functionality or is there somehow a 'deeper' HTC level that none can touch?
Q8: The play store apps from HTC that don't work on my M8 (like Gallery)- is it because HTC puts a root checker in their app code? If so is that one of the sacrifices of rooting my M8?
Q9: Sorry to be 'one of those people' but I'm so familiar with Nexus Roms, all of the M8 ones are utterly new territory, not least because there's a Play store M8's and Sense M8s- is there somewhere I can go and compare M8 Roms? Is there a reason the big ones (CM, Carbon, PA) don't seem to get much of a mention when googling 'best m8 rom' or is it purely because people prefer Sense based roms over standard?
Sorry, and thanks SO much in advance if you have time to even answer a few of these! I'll buy you a coffee if you answer all of them
