Help!? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm trying to install roms but won't let me it said installation aborted (status 7)..i need help
Nexus 7 of HELLBoy

Cant help without more info. What rom and how are you trying to install?

If you have verified root, and know that you are, try using the el26 cwm to flash...
But someguyatx is absolutely correct. You're post is way to vague for anyone to really help you.

As MoHoGalore and someguyatx you are giving almost no information.
What ROM and version were you on?
What ROM were you trying to flash?
What method were you using to flash? CWM or Odin
Sounds like you were possibly trying to use an improper recovery (ROM Manager or older Touch Recover) OR tried to install the 'update.zip' on a ROM that wouldn't pass the upgrade process tests.
Why not use one of sfhub's One-Click Odin Stock+Root installs and you will at least get a stock rooted system? Then use his Autoroot to add a safe CWM with which you can then safely and easily flash ROMs.
Either way a WHOLE lot more information would be helpful if you want some real solutions.

I believe this indicates that your recovery is not safe to flash....

[Q] Need help with rooted EK02 --> EL29 upgrade.

I cant post in the developers area, so here goes. I had to manually root my epic 4g touch using adb, now when I do my compliance check with e4gtauto-sfx.exe it says the following files are missing:
missing: /system/app/socialhub.apk
missing: /system/app/sprintzone.apk
So when I try to install the update (both: update_SPH-D710_EK02_to_EL29-rooted & ive tried: update_SPH-D710_EK02_to_EL29-rooted-cwm), they both fail to update.
The only thing I have done was root the phone, stock kernal, etc. I do have RomManager installed. I have tried to find the missing files and install the .apk's but haven't been sucessful at that.
Can anyone help me please?

Are you sure you didn't use titanium to remove some bloatware?
If you read the instructions for the rooted el29 ota update, it gives you a couple if options to resolve your issue. It is in the section about running ota compliance check.
If you go to calkulins or anyones for that matter, and download the full version not the debloated one, you should be able to extract it and find the 2 files in there. Ill download it and look aswell and will update post with some links if i find them.
dam your fast sfhub
verify you have root access, try pushing the update tar through odin, or the cwm zip through recovery, those missing apks should not effect you updating modem or kernal

I tried the cwm through recovery, it said it failed because of the two .apk's. I can try odin, but not to familiar with that process.

Yes, I have titanium and got rid of the bloatware.. I did know this was going to screw me later down the road.

Im downloading the file now, Ill give that a shot too.. thank you!
I extracted both of the files I needed from the calkulins file into the system/app folder and I am still getting this error when installing in recovery mode:
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/app/socialhub.apk", [a bunch of numbers])
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
And now the compliance check says:
SHA1FAIL: zImage/Kernel
SHA1FAIL: /system/app/socialhub.apk
SHA1FAIL: /system/app/sprintzone.apk
SHA1FAIL: /system/build.prop (I attempted to modify this file to stop OTA update message, didn't work)
zImage failing is fine if I remember correctly.
Do you have any issue with just using sfhubs OneClick EL29 the no data version so you dont have to reinstall your apps, or even better doing so and just using the full one and putting your things back on.
You dont have to do the OTA compliant install he posted, just flash the whole phone. It will be EL29 with root modem and all on stock kernel and then you can take the e4gt auto and put it to EL29 + CWM if you like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 specifically the SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED_NODATA-oc-sfx.exe version if you want to keep everything youd have after the update normally.

There are 2 versions provided, Full and NoData. Full would have reset your user data (including user apps) but NoData would have kept them (unless you kept all your apps in /system)

You welcome but as i was trying to say, specifically the SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED_NODATA-oc-sfx.exe version was the one you would have wanted to use if you wanted to keep your data. As of course sfhub has also noted. Sorry if I was not more clear about that.

[Q] Rooting without ROMing?

I just got the new G3 and am looking into rooting, but I'm not interested in using any ROMs.
I've done the same with my Epic 4g for the last few years, but have run into issues at times.
My question is, will I run into any issues if I just run a rooted, non-ROMed phone? If so, are there things I can do to prevent them?
I'm only looking to be able to freeze bloatware, use adblocks, get free hotspot, use backup utilities, etc. But I don't want to run into issues with sprint updates, etc.
Basically wondering what the best way to utilize a rooted, non-ROMed G3 would be.
Thanks for the help.

Easiest way without issues would probly be to get all the sprint updates before you root. Once ur up to date flash CWM or Twrp thru Odin and flash the Team epic root from recovery file while in there. Then if you dont want the custom recovery flash the stock one back after your rooted.

Thanks for the quick reply, after looking through and reading about the FreeGS3 ROM, I'm thinking of going with Twrp and flashing FreeGS3.
Though, all I'm seeing for Twrp is installing through GooManager, which requires a root. I know how to use the CWM tar in odin and flash the Team Epic root, but I'm not sure how to get twrp on before cwm.
Is there a tar file for twrp like the cwm one used in QBKing77s root videos?

I guess cwm and twrp share the same partition.
Will just root using cwm and install twrp over goomanager.
Awesome, thank you again.
No problem, if needed here is a flashable zip that will install TWRP from CWM https://dl.dropbox.com/s/v3t8u6ebs3pvstq/TwrpRecovery.zip?dl=1

[Q] which recovery after root?

Howdy, I plan on rooting my tablet in a few days. The instructions say to root, then, flash stock recovery. Is flashing the stock recovery necessary if i plan on using goo to install twrp recovery prior to flashing cleanrom on my device?
Also, the cleanrom thread says to flash the appropriate version of twrp. Am I to assume the latest version on goo is the ticket for that?
Also, while the dev has indicated there will be further versions after 1.2, can I expect to simply download updates, or expect to flash new versions every time? I guess this particular question doesn't really matter I'm just interested.
And finally, has anybody used heimdall with any success with the p600? Google says no...
I would have posted this on the clean rom thread but was not allowed since I have not had enough posts yet. moving this to there would not hurt my feelings.
I appreciate any and all help and of course feel appreciation and give thanks to the developers who have put in such great effort. Thank you.

That's a lot questions! Lol.... here's two answers:
If you want to flash CleanRom, then you don't need to root your stock rom, just use Odin to flash TWRP and that will either let you install CleanRom or let you install SuperSU (root). You can the recovery from their website.
I'm on the P600 and the goomanager didn't install the recovery correctly, so I had to flash with odin.
I don't know about Heimdal. Good luck on your ten posts

My understanding is that root is neccesary to flash twrp. If that is not the case, they why use Odin at all?
Heimdall is a program reverse engineered to work on Samsung devices. Potentially more stable than odin. Open source. I use a linux box but will have access to a windows box in a week or so.
supersu
Furthermore, for verification, super su does not root your device, it only manages the permissions of those programs that need root access. Can somebody else chime in for verification?

No, you CAN flash recovery without rooting, and if your not rooted then TWRP asks if you'd like to install SuperSU and root that way. I guess you don't have to believe me though

that sounds great but doesn't TWRP need root in order to be installed? my understanding is yes. If not I should be able to install it using Goo manager. from what I've read the developers for GooManager are very serious and would not allow a non working application to remain in their program.

You wont need to root if your intent is to just flash my ROM.
Appropriate version would be 2.6.3.3
As far as updates / patches... Depends on the issue. Mostly do full updates if something changes. If its a bug fix then I would just do a patch.
Hemidall? No, never tried it.
Basically to flash a custom ROM you just need to flash TWRP using Odin then flash the ROM using TWRP.
You dont techincally need to root unless you want to stay stock and have root. But that is no fun!
Also, the goo.im app does not work with this device so you have to use Odin manually (for simplicity).
Hope this helps!

I read the TWRP thread, and others are having problems installing through goomanager. I also wanted to install it that way, but it wouldn't work. But it didnt work. It also wouldn't flash through the stock recovery. Hence, odin.

thank you for the clarification! in order to flash TWRP in Odin do I simply use the AP slot as you would to flash autoroot by their directions?
one of the things thats tripped me up is that on the TWR P site as well as in Google Play it says you must have a rooted device. This would suggest that in order to get TWRP on your device it would already have to be rooted. it seems strange to me that the tablet will allow odin to install it on a non rooted device.
hoops I guess. So being a non Windows user, that is not familiar with the Windows operating system,( bet you don't hear that everyday) ,I would suppose the order would go something like this.
1 download Samsung drivers from kies.1
2. Download TWRP from site for odin.
3. Open odin.
4. go to download mode on device.
5. Plugin device and wait for it to be recognized.
6. Drag the Twrp zip for odin to the AP slot, enter,
7. Wait for it to .......?
8. Reboot.
9 download the cleanrom rom.
10. Reboot into recovery
11. Installcleanrom
12 enjoy.
a couple of other questions concerning the SD card. Should I leave it in during any or all of these processes? I've seen where other people have had problems with their SD card not being read is this due to it not being installed when they install clean rom? I really do appreciate all the help.
not breaking my device by doing something stupid is paramount. Lol! as I will be using my daughters computer any other information regarding the installation of the Samsung drivers or Odin would be much appreciated I do not want to hurt her computer.
I kept my SD card installed while flashing TWRP in Odin and had no problems. If you're worried then take it out. As far as Odin goes... run it as an admin and after connecting your Note (in DL mode) just click on "AP" and navigate to the directory where you saved the TWRP file. From there just hit "start" and your good to go. Odin isn't gonna mess anything up on your daughters pc and if you have a copy of the stock recovery just reflash it if you run into problems with TWRP. Also, read through all the different threads/watch YouTube videos. Most of this has been covered many times over and you can see what success or problems others have had.

Stock Kernel and Recovery for HTC M8 1.54.401.10

I'm trying to get my HTC M8 back to stock so I can get the new 4.4.3 update, however, I am unable to find the stock kernel for my device.
It is software version 1.54.401.10.
I flashed to the elementalx kernel and put on a TWRP recovery.
I am able to download the update but when it installs, it just goes into recovery.
I made a backup of the original kernel a few months ago however it doesn't seem to be on my phone anymore.
When I look for stock kernels they all seem to be different versions than my device.
Can someone give me a bit of advice?
There are numerous guides for other versions but none mentions my software version.
Any kernel doesn't matter.
Your problem is you don't flash stock recovery.
TWRP or any custom recovery don't work for OTA.

I'm new to this obviously. I've figured out that's just how the stock recovery is. Now I'm trying to figure out why the ota doesn't work with the stock recovery.
I get this error when I try to install the update.

This means that something of the system has been changed by you, so the ckecksum of the OTA doesn't match the configuration of your system and thus abort the installation process.

This means your ROM is modified, not pure stock.
I suggest you make a backup with your current ROM and restore the pure stock backup that I posted here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54564526#post54564526
1. flash back the TWRP recovery
2. make backup of your current one
3. restore pure stock backup that I linked above
4. flash stock recovery
5. reboot then do the OTA

Oh ok, I didn't know the kernel apparently doesn't matter when doing OTA's and here I am telling him to go back to stock kernel because it's a kernel related error he has...
Best I keep out of this one then, I never even flashed another kernel.

Right ... it's kernel related error but to be precised, it's the kernel module error.
Flashing a stock kernel without flashing stock module, the same error will occur.

It flashes the correct and latest recovery for your model phone regardless of what rom, firmware or current custom recovery. You choose from Philz, Twrp, or CWM recoveries.
It's idiot proof, I used it once when having to re-root, and you don't need a PC.

Will the twrp manager app work has anyone had experience using it to install a recovery?
