Hello,
probably a stupid question for many of you, but I just want to know if there is a way to maintain the root after upgrading to Jelly Bean, or the only way to gain root access again is to flash again.
Cheers!
I just did it with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 7.8!
Dear all,
in case someone had the same question, since I had already rooted my device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 7.8, rooted Jelly Bean leaving everything untouched, and all automatically!
The Toolkit is great!!!
Cheers!
I thought OTA RootKeeper or SuperSU should do the trick... :cyclops:

Hi folks,
Noob Nexus User, I have a rooted, stock galaxy nexus and was wondering when OTA comes will I loose root and if so, will voodoo root keeper return it after update?
Obviously I can re-root, but thought I'd give this app a try....
Thanks
You might want to return your phone - it looks like the search function isn't working...
There are threads on this already.
that's was about as useful as me not searching
Lol...

I have a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) that I recently unlocked the bootloader and upgraded to 4.0.4. I now want to root the phone to gain superuser access. If I do this, is it going to wipe my phone? If so, will I then need to re-run the 4.0.4 upgrade (when upgrading, I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit V5.4).
I had the exact same setup and just used the toolkit to add root for an app that needed it. No loss of data.
You should make a backup just in case, as you never know when or why you will need it.
I am considering rooting my GT2 which is running ICS 4.0.4. If I root it, will the OS updates pushed down from Samsung still work? If i remove the preinstalled Samsung apps, will a upgrade work? Will a upgrade put the spps back?
Thanks. James

I was actually wondering this exact same thing. I've had an OTA for a while now, but it fails during updating every time. Do I have to unroot, update, then re-root the device? My only fear is I won't be able to unroot it with the same method after an update.
I just got a new Galaxy Skyrocket and I am dying to root it and put Jelly Bean on it. The problem is that I have absolutely no idea where to even start. I am not worried about voiding the warranty since I bought the phone outright with the intention of rooting it and installing Jelly Bean. But being the idiot that I am, I don't have a clue what to do. Does anybody have a rooting guide for dummies?

Thanks!
I just got the Wi-fi version of the Note 8.0 (GT-N5110). I want to root it so I can run rooted apps (Titanium Backup, Helium, etc.) and not for installing custom-ROM.
One important thing I want to ensure is that when Samsung releases the OFFICIAL 4.2.2, I can still update it via Kies. I had the Galaxy Note 1 and I rooted it (forgot what I used to root) and when Samsung released the official Jelly Bean, I cannot upgrade via Kies, had to do Odin.
I see that there are 2 way of doing the root and I am wondering which one have LESS issue?
I. CF-Auto-Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683
- Created by ChainFire (creator of SuperSU?)
- WILL increase the flash counter (can be fixed with Triangle Away, but not sure if this works with Note 8.0)
II. Galaxy Note 8.0 Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251033
- I am still doing research, but it seems some people have issues based on the thread?
i. its work fine. i root my note 8 when it was in 4.1.2 and when upgrade it to 4.2.2
ii. some got problem with it. but not all.
btw both will increase your flash counter and can be fix with triangle away (make sure the latest one)

You have 4.2.2 already? I thought Samsung had not released the official update for the Wi-Fi version.
my device is 3g version
there are 4.2 roms out, so if you are rooted, you can install it..
and use CF autoroot; took about 3 minutes and is super easy..
and dont worry about the flash counter; why do people care about this any ways, it only comes in to play if you return this thing, and if you buy it at places like Best Buy, they usually dont care...
Thank you all!
I used the Toolkit, since it seems easier to revert to stock if I messed up.
