Desire z only see 384mb of ram - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a solution for that or not. I'm running official 2.3.
Thanks

That's not an error. A certain amount of RAM will always be reserved for the core system, thus there's no ROM that show all 512MB RAM.

That's normal on every rom, of the 512MB a portion of it is reserved to the Radio/Etc. Only 384 or so is usable by the OS itself. (ie: a Desire HD with 768MB of ram will have around 512+ for the OS itself).

wait, wait, wait. does the DZ has 500mb RAM?

512, but if you read the post above yours it explains how a portion of it isn't accessable to the os as it is reserved fro radio/bootloader/etc

yes, but just the fact itself is funny i think. 512MB ram from a thing from 2008...

As far as I know, Desire Z was launched in the States around November 2010... not 2008... by 2008 that would mean Desire Z was launched a year after the first iPhone...

No Gingerbread for desire announced!!!

wtf? is this true?
http://androidcommunity.com/no-android-gingerbread-for-htc-desire-20110614/
Errr... please have a read. Only for Desire, not Desire Z. There has been no announcement for Desire Z yet, except that it will be out by the end of June.
ah ok, i was too quick! fiew!!
Even so. The reason for no show on the desire is not enough memory. The Z has even less. Hope jt's just an excuse for not releasing on a legacy device!

The Z has more ROM, the desire only had 512mb.
How much does the Z have?

How about changing/correcting the thread title so you don't FREAK people out, like you did me?

htc desire c announced!!!

hi all,
htc announced htc desire c and the specs are almost same....any devs intrested to port desire c to wildfire s....we get android 4.0.3 skinned wid sense ui 4.0
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4759&idPhone2=3777 comparision of desire c wid wildfire s
my guess is that it will take about a gig for the ROM and that's more space than we have sadly

It is possible just that we need to partition our SD Card
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using xda premium
maybe possible for s-off users? since they can change the allocation of the internal memory.....maybe they could make say 800mb for rom and only 200mb for internal storage...but then use data2sd to give you space for apps etc? just an idea.
might take a bit of work to get it going though as there are some hardware differences. (i'm not a dev, so I have no idea how hard or easy this would be)

Well , if the phone has a 4GB internal memory doesn't mean at ALL that the system is more than 150 MB , the amount of internal storage is undependent on the system , but the system is dependent only by that Size of System < Free Space ... Anyways , when the Desire C is out , I want to make a hustle around here , even if the ICS itself wasn't ported , i will do my job

Final news from htc about ics update

OFFICIAL NEWS...SORRY GUYS
What devices will not get Android 4.0?
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB ROM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.0. These devices include the HTC ChaCha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer, and others.
Thank the devs for CM9
I think it's been pretty clear from the beginning that the WFS is not a candidate for HTC ICS. Therefore:

Just sharing the news for the ones that dont know
Y they r launching desire c which has got 512 mb ram with ics?
They r dumb people...just interested in launching new one....any way we have to thank them for desire c, for providing better chance for sense 4 porting

ok htc
i'll be a very rude person and stick to my cyanogenmod 9

Because ROM and RAM are not the same thing. 512MB RAM is fine, but 512MB of ROM (Stupid naming, as it isn't really read-only) is a problem when you toss in sense on top of base android. It would leave you practically no space for apps (which is already an issue on GB) or anything without link2SD or similar, which HTC isn't going to be doing as stock. For example, my incredible S (which is getting ICS) has a full 1.1GB of ROM, so they have loads of space to play with.
There's people in the dev section working to port the golf (aka desire c) ICS rom to the wildfire S. They're only able to get it to fit via extra optimizations (deodexing, pngcrush, stripping optional stuff, etc.)that HTC wouldn't be interested in using.
Yes, no offical ICS for us, but htc says that we will get more software updates

Gingerbread went up to 2.3.7.
But the fixes in those aren't real relevant to the WFS. 2.3.6 fixed a voice search bug and 2.3.7 added wallet support to the nexus S.

Thanks for explaining some stuff, and about the ROM/RAM,,,i just cant be bothered sometimes to type

[Q] are we able to port the Desire C stock ROM to the Wildfire S?

considering the almost same specs?
No because desire C has the armv7 CPU and our phone has the armv6 CPU.

there is some talks going on between devs about porting sense 4 but let's see what the future holds.
I think the devs will be able to do it
Also the desire c has 4 gig internal memory of which only 1 gig is user memory, so the Rom would probably have to be stripped down and internal memory would have to be partitioned, meaning s-off would be needed.
