Hey guys,
I replaced my build.prop file with the one provided in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434828. I made a backup on my sd card but a couple of months later I erased all the content of the card without thinking an important backup file was on it. Now I want to update my tablet to ICS but it fails because my build.prop has changed and I can't retore the old one...
Can someone please send a copy of the original build.prop so I can finally get the update?
Thanks!

Here's a link to where you can get the stock 3.2 HC ROM to flash. When you do that, then check for updates and it should be there and eventually, I think 3 of them, you will get the ICS OTA update.

hi all,
Sorry I have to return my handset as its faulty I think, it crackles from the speaker all the time on the handset only, presume this is not a normal fault, i havent found it anyway .so i need a replacement.
I installed nandroid and rooted the phone when I got it, but have forgotten it all lol, I did take a backup of the original os, and i kept it on the standard sd card (2gb) .
I then took that out and did the update with a new card, kept the old one separate. So I am thinking to return to the orange rom, I would put the old card back in (sd) and then just use nandroid to reflash the rom, but then how do i remove the nandroid rooting??
also i have used backup for root users to backup everything, and will re root the new phone hopefully this will restore everything or more things, I am using modaco 2.2
thanks
another thought would chooosing the option
wipe data/factory reset restore the phone to how it came? or restore to fresh install 2.2?
also would backing up the current install using the option nandroid 2.2backup also backup all the data/apps and stuff?
thx

there is a way to unroot your phone, but because you are stuck with the modified recovery img you installed you wont have a standard orange hero
my suggestion is to flash a rom with
stock recovery
stock radio
stock rom
I would suggest try using the updates HTC.com has provided for us, that should return you back to stock firmware!
"Make sure you flash correct update, I am not responsible for any bricks or damages to your phone!"
how do you mean since i am stuck with modded rom? I said I backed up my orange rom before i used the update feature of the nandroid root, so my question is about 1 restoring it, and then 2 removing the root feature?
thanks for ur advice
ok i have managed to restore to factory orange rom so never mind that, how do i remove the ability to boot to the nandroid backup/loader feature?
to "unroot" and get back to Orange stock you will need to do a full flash, use the HTC Orange Update as its Orange verified, a normall restore wont remove the Custom recovery image you have installed
ok how do i do that? thx
dont worry, have done it, but thanks
glad to hear it
job done
all sorted

Hoping someone could help clear up a couple points. I spent a number of hours searching and found good information but still not clear if I will need a stock recovery to get OTA updates in the future.
Here is where I am:
1. Installed official LH2 ICS from Samsung via Kies.
2. Did factory reset once phone and other apps crashed.
3. Got great help here and installed CWMR, created nandroid backup then installed keyboard fix.
4. No root or anything else yet.
Honestly everything seems to be working great and I have not experienced near the issues that others are reporting. SMS alerts were the only other problem but I have since moved to Go SMS Pro and not looking back.
So I am getting prepared for the future and wondering if there is a stock recovery for ICS that I would download. I thought I had a link but have been unable to locate a flashable file yet. I downloaded the original LH2 ROM from sammobile and have that available if needed.
Doe anyone know where I could get a stock recovery if I need it going forward or since I have the original ROM is there a guide somewhere to help me create or extract it from the image?
Just thinking ahead. Thanks for any advice or pointer.

Ok, I just realized that the ROM I downloaded from samfirmware.com is a .TAR file so I extracted Recovery.img from the archive.
Is it really that simple that all I would need to do is flash this file with Odin?
Thanks.
Yep, it should be really that simple.

Thanks bakageta. I was just logging back in to say yes it is and it worked
I created a md5 hashed tarball of the original recovery.img and loaded it with Odin no problem. I assume that will help me get OTA updates in the future but not sure.
For now I will go back to CWMR so I can continue to do nandroid backups.
Don't forget, applying an OTA on a ROM with any modifications whatsoever (with perhaps the lone exception of root) is usually a bad idea.
Besides it's never too long before someone uploads a full image of whatever updates come out.

Thanks, I have been thinking of that as well. So far I have just loaded the Keyboard fix but even if I cannot get the updates OTA any more that is OK. I am a developer as well and it is just interesting learning how the phone and Android OS is structured.
I appreciate the support and the great information found here.
Hi guys,
I have a problem upgrading my nexus to the latest 4.1.2 update.
My device found an update, downloaded it and rebooted to CWR.
It's starting to install and then I get error status 7. Installation failed.
I also tried to donload the update manually but same results.
My devices is rooted with an open bootloader.
TAKJU.
I've tried to seach the forum/stickies but couldn't find a solution.
can anyone please advise?
Thanks in advanced,
Do you have modified system files? Like did you modify your build.prop?
Having the su and superuser.apk does not matter, OTA will still go through.
Most likely because OP altered something within the /system/ or is using another radio other than the one supplied from OTA.
This is why I always say if you're going to root, don't "half-a.." it. Go for the whole thing. Rooting is a gateway drug to flashing
I did not modify system files etc..at least not on purpose..
zephiK - I'm not sure what you meant there. I don't remember how I rooted, but do you think the root was corrupted?
Can you help me fix this somehow?
I don't care to wipe if needed.
thanks!
Got the same situation as you, the update won't proceed as it can't pass the check to ensure the rom in your Nexus is the one valid for update. Search the thread and web, and the message that follow the error 7 code hint you what's the thing that's not match.
You scenario should not be the same as mine since everyone of us mess with our own Nexus in our liking. But I'll share my case to see if it get's you some insight.
First OTA and manual flash won't work, stop almost immediately as shown by the CWM progress bar. I saw the screen said something about system/calculator - Then I remember that I have use TB to backup and uninstall the stock calculator, image, and email.
Restore those 3 using TB, and try again.
This time, the progress bar moves, and it actually check and stop halfway in between before showing the Status 7 msg.
Then do some web search, someone said about the radio version, and I got bad battery drain anyway, so flashed the radio version, restart and reflash again.
This time progress a little bit longer, and still no dice. Status 7 msg says something about system/build.prop
Check my system folder on the Nexus, and find build.prop.bak, then remember I have messed around with build.prop before, trying to change the device name shown on the DHCP table on wifi routers.
Revert the change. Try flash again, and viola, it work. And now got my 4.1.2 running nice and smooth.
So pay an attention at what the string said in the status 7 msg, and you know why it won't start the update.
Hey, you mentioned you have a unlocked bootloader.
If you still can boot into android, download TitaniumBackup and backup all user apps and data, then pull the TitaniumBackup folder to your computer.
Then use fastboot to flash 4.1.2 image from Google.
Then finally use Titanium Backup to restore your stuff.
28907126 - Thanks for the info! It might help to others. I really didn't play with radio or system files.
Mach3.2 - Can you please direct me to a guide on how to flash the image?
Thanks for the help everyone.

There's a sticky at the top of this forum.
Okay so here's what happened, from the beginning:
A long time ago, about a month after the release of the SGS3, I rooted my device. All I wanted was to uninstall bloatware, which I did.
I took some advice from a friend and installed some root-related apps (Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, BusyBox Free, Root Checker Basic, AnTuTu Benchmark, GooManager and TWRP) that I barely used.
Fast forward to today, about an hour or so ago. I had completely forgotten my phone is rooted because all I really did was remove bloatware. Suddenly the thought occurs to me, "I haven't checked for an update in a while!" Again, don't remember my phone is rooted. So I do the software update process, takes about 20 minutes to download the OTA update, then I click continue to install. The phone does its thing, shuts down down to install, starts coming back on, white text at the bottom scrolls with some jargon I am not familiar with, then I see something I recognize: ERROR! (something about md5 files or something rather) "****! I forgot my phone was rooted!" That's when the TWRP UI comes up....
All I can think to do is run the TWRP backup restore, which I backed up as part of the root process months ago. Well, that's complete now and my phone is back to 27 Oct 2012. Not TOO big a deal considering most, but not all, of my data is stored to some cloud (how does that work? I thought water and electronics didn't get along)<---JOKE!. So now I don't really know what to do. I am in the process of using SMS Backup+ to restore all my texts, and am trying to get my apps back up to date. After I get this all done, I still want to run the JellyBean update. As a safe bet, I would like to (if possible) un-root my phone, which requires me to re-install bloatware (?), yada yada yada, and basically return my GS3 back to factory settings so I can install JellyBean the legit way. I would then like to re-root my phone to remove (again) all the bloatware. So, I guess my question to whomever is far more qualified than me (probably 99% of xda forum users) is how can I safely go about doing this without losing (again) all my data? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you VERY much!
Ok. There are several problems here that need to be worked on.
First, I suggest that you get all your apps and data back up to date to "current" as opposed to Oct 27. Once you do that, then boot into TWRP and make a backup and save a copy to your PC as well. That way you will have a current restore point.
Next, the reason you are not able to take the OTA is two-fold. First you have Root and second you have a custom recovery.
**Former is easy to fix. All you need to do is get OTA Rootkeeper from the market and run it. Make a backup of SU and when you are ready to take the OTA, temp delete root through the app, take OTA and the restore Root through the app. Pretty easy.
**The latter issue is with regards to the custom recovery. You will need to find a flashable zip of the stock recovery and flash that (this is after you make your backups of course).
So now you will have an unrooted phone [technically if you use OTA Rootkeeper] with stock recovery. You should be able to take the OTA no problem, restore Root with OTA Rootkeeper and install Goomanager from the market to get TWRP recovery back.
Seem like a lot? Well it is. But then you could always look in the Dev section for a flashable version or mrRobinson's Root66 Odin package which is far esaier that above. Just read the OP.
Well, I am stuck at step one. Now my phone isn't reading my SD card, which is where I would be backing up to as my phone does not have enough free space on internal memory. So I guess I have a new problem that needs a solution, as well as all the other problems.
Still need help guys...
I still need help here. How am I supposed to back up my phone if it's not reading my MicroSD card? Better question, how can I get my phone to read the SD card?

Try to format your micro sdcard on your pc
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
My phone is reading the SD card in certain applications, but not in the ones that matter. Most of my music is on the SD card and there is no problem listening to any of it, but when I go to the storage settings on the phone it tells me to insert an SD card. Same thing when trying to use TWRP to try and back up my phone to the SD card. This is really frustrating...

Hi all
I've managed to pull this back from the brink and I am now able to boot into a rooted Marshmallow 6 OS.
Problem is I can't see my SD Card and it says it's corrupted. I had backed up the data from the SDCard and so allowed Marshmallow to reformat the card. Same problem. It still says it's corrupted after the reformat..
Any thoughts please? I really can't be bothered with this today after losing all my apps etc earlier. :crying:
Many thanks
H
Have you format as internal?

It's like every other day there is a new user with the same problem.
As in all the other threads, make sure, your rooted kernel matches your Rom. Beware that there are two different 20A versions. Best advise is to reflash 20A (newer version) and use systemless root. If you manage to get this far, you will find the appropriate thread here.
Thanks for the replies.. Had a hell of a f***ing day with my phone after losing all apps and settings..
Nucking fightmare and I've been struggling to get it to just blooming work on marshmallow. At least I didn't lose the important stuff on the SDCard..
I've restored a system image to 5.1 and will be re-rooting it soon.. I've already wasted too long on it..
I'll probably stay on it until 6.1 is available for the G4..
Thanks for the replies!
