Hi everyone. I have another (probably) stupid question(s) about backing up apps prior to flashing ROM. I have installed all my apps and backed them up with Titanium. When I flash ROM it is easy to restore. All clear. Now, all my apps are on INTERNAL memory. Now I have decided to install games as well, I keep all my games on SD card.
1) Is it necessary to backup apps on SD card? Aren't they in .androidsecure folder on SD card? If so, will they be automatically visible to the new ROM/System?
2) Another variant of the question - If I use Link2SD, which doesn't move apps 2 SD like app2SD but creates links and uses second hidden EXT4 partition to store apps (apps look to the system as if they're on internal memory), is it necessary to backup these apps? Or will they become available simply by reinstalling Link2SD?
Thanx
D.
Since noone seems to know - I had to try myself. And the answers: Super Wipe script from Revolution wipes .androidsecure folder. The second SD card partition (EXT4) for use with Link2SD is not accessible, I wouldn't say wiped since it displays usage info, but all apps there are not accessible.
What remains to be tried is to make a backup with Titanium and see whether it restores everything Luckily, before trying I did full backup from recovery so I can continue experimenting with all my apps intact

Hi,
Does anyone know how to undo A2SD? ie move all the apps back to the internal memory then remove the ext3 partitions from my memory card?
I'm running a rooted 2.73 ROM with RA-HERO-v1.2.2 recovery image and a vista computer
cheers
I'd also be interested in this, I often get a message saying something like 'sd card maybe not inserted or full' (cant remember the exact msg atm) which I think may be related to apps2sd. Couldn't find any info on the message though.
I'd solve it like this:
Step 1: Format SD card (thus also wiping all partitions)
Step 2: Wipe and re-install any rom - to avoid problems with dependencies from your old setup running with A2SD.
but then you lose all your apps!
He wants first to put his apps back on his phone and then he will format SD card.
But how? I want to know that also
1- Backup your apps using AppManager.
2- Copy the FAT32 partition content to your PC.
3- Format your SD card entirely to FAT32 erasing the EXT3 and SWAP partition.
4- Copy contents back to your SD card.
5- Install AppManager.
6- Restore Your Apps.
Hi,
I met with a small issue regarding apps not storing correctly in ext3 partition.
I flashed with DeFrost 6.0d yesterday night and used Titanium Backup to only backup apps.
After which, I used TB again to 'Move user apps to SDcard'. Which I think breaks it, and move to SD card as I took a look at my sdcard storage, it left with 0byte. Before that I still have around few hundred mb.
My question is, right now, how do I move those apps back to the ext3? My internal memory after flashed is 144mb, but after using TB to restore apps, it shot down to 30+mb.
As a result, I am now unable to also update the apps through Market. All it says was installed unsuccessfully. I tried to move one apps back to internal memory, and update and it was successful.
How do I also know whether apps is installed using A2SD+ or Froyo appstoSD?
Thanks!
If you have a nandroid backup, you can restore from it. However it looks llike ur sd card might have got corrupted (either ext3 partition or fat32 or both). If it does not work, format and re-partition the sd card, wipe and reflash the rom and install the apps again.
If you have the latest nandroid, just format and re-partition (after backing up) the sd and restore it.
Edit: if the froyo a2sd is being used, then the apps will be in the .android_secure folder in the root of ur sd card (fat32) (in an encrypted format)
Thanks for the reply.
I found out that if I move the apps back to Phone, I will be able to update the apps and also, my internal memory will not decrease (only by .xxmb).
Does that mean that while pushing back to phone, a2sd+ actually is working on the background and the apps is actually stored in ext3 instead of phone memory?
My .android_secure folder is emptied btw.
I'm wanting to setup apps2sd on my phone but not sure if I'll be able to reinstall all my apps afterwards?
I'm running Defrost 2.9b, haven't updated the rom for months and months, it's served me well but there's some little annoyances that have made me want to try new roms. My version of Defrost had an option to automatically install all apps to external storage, so just about everything except system apps etc are already on my sd card, and I've backed up everything I want to keep with Titanium backup.
Now, if I do the following:-
1. backup all contents of my sd card to pc
2. format memory card ready for apps2sd
3. flash new rom / kernel
4. restore my apps with titanium backup
Will apps2sd automatically move everything to the apps partition, or should I move my apps back to the phone and make new backups?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to this and very confused by it all, I only ever flashed it once, that's the rom I'm using now and that was months ago! Any help is much appreciated.
Hi,
i installed lots of stuff on my play. and now im on 30mb wich is about the lowes state before the phone gets UGLY slow...
So how to gain more memory?
Methods i know are:
1. install apps to sd card - done ofc
2. gaining root -> uninstall stock apps wiht titanium backup - also did this already
3. using Darktremor App2SD scripts for completely moving apps to SD
4. reformat at least I think it'S what they do... needs unlocked BL - don't want to do this.
Did anyone of u test the Darktremor? And can it be applied without data loss somehow? Does it work with the Clockworkmod wich is installed in /system?
Are there any other solutions?
regards
FrEcP
I'd suggest using the setInstallLocation 2 ADB trick, this will let you move any app to your SD card.
thanks - but doesn't it just the the default location to sdcard? So some content will still remain on internal?
just found another nice solution - link2sd (its like the darktremor but since GUI much more user friendly) - just what i searched for
Offtopic:
is there a list of tweaks we can apply without unlocked BL?
The setInstallLocation 2 ADB will allow you to move apps to SD that you couldn't before. Yes, some data will remain in the internal memory, but much less than before.
If you're already using Titanium Backup, use the Integrate updates to system partition (or whatever it's called under Batch) and you'll get a ton of space.
I would recommend using Link2SD. The app is on the market for free, requires root, and moves your apps to another partition on your sd card while leaving a link to it, so the phone still thinks it's in the system memory.
It's very easy to use, though you have to partition the card yourself.
i have just rooted my htc desire and now i want to move all the apps that take up the space to sd card. i would realy appreciate any help. if there is step by step guide that would be really great. thnx
these are the best set of guides for what you need, start here. if none of it makes sense read it again slowly, then google anything which doesnt make sense
you'll likely need an sd partition, recommend backing up your sd card and then using gparted for this (do not use minitool, uninstall rom manager if you have it)
easiest way to use the partition would be to install a custom rom with built in script to move apps to the sd-ext partition.
when everything is set up, install and app like diskusage to check all your partitions are being used properly.
What worked for me was CM7, 1Gb partition of my SD card (Minitool Partition Wizard meant no loss of data from the card) and installing S2e. Finally got rid of the low space message on the Desire.
