ok, first the Hack Kit download is borked..your antivirus has eaten zergrush and then it can not gain temp root. Disable the AV, firewalls, and all the other stuff related to protection you have and re download the kit. Make sure that in the tools>bin folder the file zergrush exists.
Moreover, or your sdcard is bad or you have not set your phone as charge only by default...it has permission denied...
Fix that and it will work flawlessly....:good:

HOWTO root and s-off the Desire HD on stock 2.3.3 ROM?

I am a noob on Desire HD... how can i root and s-off and install clockworkmod recovery on this phone with 2.3.3 stock rom without downgrading. is it possible?
Not possible, you need to downgrade.

Gingerbreak, from what I understand, will only provide temp root. And the code to disable S-ON does not work on HTC Gingerbread. So once you reboot, All changes are rolled back.
To install ClockworkMod Recovery its needed to downgrade, root, apply ENG/S-OFF, upgrade again (2.3 strangely does not restore S-ON), Gingerbreak (If your lucky and it works), flash recovery.
EDIT: I need to start typing quicker, ghostofcain beat me to it.
I tried Gingerbreak at first. it worked. but with a reboot all of changes vanished!
is there any way to first S-Off the phone and then use the Gingerbreak without the Downgrading... Downgrading is truely a pain in the ass!
If you have lost S-OFF (back to S-ON) then no, you will have to downgrade first.
Not helping much....
No offence but I read these forums all the time and its a bit tiring when someone asks a questions and they only get half an answer and not a very helpful one at that.
Ok so you can't root the DHD running stock 2.3.3 without downgrading first.
So how about pointing the people in need of help in the right direction then?!

Not sure if this has been said or not but:

It's as easy as "download, run" and it works brilliantly!
I suggest you just boot a Ubuntu Live CD (it's not as bad as it sounds, I actually liked it the first time I tried it and now I have it installed by my Windows) and just run the command:
wget http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/aahk-25102011.zip && unzip aahk-25102011.zip && sudo ./hack-ace.sh

[Q] How to restore nandroid after flashing 2.37.707.3

Hi all,
I flashed the asia rom RUU "RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Rad i o_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed ".
Now I totally regret and wish to either (1) restore to my earlier ARHD rom backup saved via ROM Manager and/or (2) install/flash older ROM version
Device: HTC Desire HD 2.37.707.3 with S-ON
Steps taken so far:
- I have tried all the various guides but I can't seem to S-off and/or root my HTC Desire HD.
- Download and run various older versions of "RUU_1.72.405.3 or 2.36.405.8 or 1.32.405.6_signed.exe" but unable to update
- Unable to restore my backup via ROM Manager / Clockwork as it requires root access. But the backup file is in my SD card, any way out?
Any advice please?
Thank you.
Unfortunatley at the moment theiris no way to downgrade 2.37 and above to get root/soff So for now you are stuck until the revs figure it out

Tried most of the methods mentioned online to no success..
The only thing I can think of... Do you have ENG S-Off? If you are not sure, go Bootloader and see if you have it or not. If you have it my friend, your problem is solved! You can flash CWM recovery via Fastboot command (in Bootloader mode) and then boot into recovery and restore your Nandroid backup!
Goodluck

100% confirmed solution. i followed the following methods and it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15290453&postcount=1828
Create a Goldcard
Download this ROM - Mirror
Put the PD98IMG.zip onto the root of your SDCard
Boot phone into Bootloader (hold volume down whilst power on), follow the steps and continue to update
(I encountered an issue here, so I tried my luck with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 => Section 2b [For Gingerbread ROMs, 2.x] and continued with following and was able to downgrade)
When it has completed and your phone boots up, download stock 1.32 PD98IMG.zip ROM
Delete the previous PD98IMG.zip from your SDCard. Put the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip onto the root of the SDCard
Boot phone into Bootloader, follow the steps and continue to update
Enjoy~

It is rootable but harder to get s-off. In order to get s-off on 2.3.4 you need to downgrade with a fairly technical process and then use unrevoked.

[Q] None of the roots are working!

Hello!
I'm here because I've got a big problem with rooting my HTC Desire Z. I've tried almost all the guides on this forum (and not only) but none of these are working. I think this is because of my phone is branded to Vodafone. Can you recommend me which method should I use to root my phone? I do not want to change my ROM. I don't even want to install applications. I just want to fully access my phone's internal memory.
Some useful info below:
Serial number: SH0B8RT04837
Android version: 2.3.3
Core version: 2.6.35.10-g7b95729
Compilation number: 2.42.161.2 CL84109 release-keys

Android 2.3.5 Root & S-OFF

Hi,
Trying to root my brothers HTC Desire HD which is currently running Android version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) and HTC Sense version 3.0.
I've been searching for the past half hour trying to find a way to root it but my search hasn't been very successful since the aahk no longer exists.
I tried the temproot method but when trying to temproot the phone the phone started to freeze and I had to remove the battery to restart it, the application went completely black... I used VISIONary to try temproot it...
So how do you root the device?
Thanks a lot in advance.
P.s i've rooted a HTC Desire HD before, not on gingerbread.
Look at glevitans signature and follow that.

Anything about version 12.x will work with Gingerbread. It involves downgrading:
[Select and press Enter]1
3.12.405.1
This version of Android cannot use the hack kit at this time.
You can downgrade if you like, then rerun the hack step.
WARNING: THIS WILL WIPE DATA
[Would you like to downgrade? y/n]
HTC WWE Europe 3.12.405.1 downgrades to HTC WWE EU GB 2.50.405.2
So after downgrade everything should be good to go.
I went over to the IRC channel, this is posted on top.
AAHK will not currently work on Inspires on AT&T's latest ROM, 3.20.502.52. A new temproot is needed.
Edit: Just noticed you have the dhd, yes, it seems you are good to go.
That's the ROM downgraded. Setting up the phone as if it were never used before as I type.
Rooting = done.
So for anyone reading this thread, download the aahk which can be found by connecting to the aahk irc support channel:
Here
Once downloaded, read the 'efffen manual' thoroughly, open the batch file as administrator and press 1. You will have to downgrade your firmware. Press y and hit enter. Continue on with the downgrade. Once it's booted back up and you've setup the device; enable debugging mode again and disable fast boot. Enter 1 at the menu of the batch file. Device will now begin rooting process.
Cheers for help!

that is not an error. The downgrade takes place in the device and not in the cmd session. Once your phone is downgraded, check that by looking at the about phone>software that u are running Android 2.3.3 and have sense 2.1, then re run the hack kit again...
That issue is because lack of reading....:good:
