Disabling bloat apps - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Does disabling the stock apps help or hinder battery life? I'm on the fence about rooting right now, and when I disabled the bloat on my E4GLTE, it killed the battery life.

I don't see how disabling bloat would kill your battery unless you were killing them several times a s day causing them to eat up more juice restarting compared to just running at all times. Bloat apps can really eat up your system ram.... but considering the s3 has 2gb of ram... it shouldnt cause to many problems. I would strongly advise rooting. Be sure to read up and know exactly what your doing before rooting.... you don't want to end up with a 500 dollar paper weight. Rooting and flashing is safe if you know what your doing. Search for qbking rooting videos on youtube for step by step directions. I strongly advise going with blazer from.

Hey, congrats on rooting your phone! Trust me, there are a few nice benefits and rooting hardly risks your phone.
The first thing I do is install AdAway from the Play Store! Blocks ads from games or other applications. Not 100% perfect, but it does help and makes things less annoying to use. Also saves data usage and a little battery life.
Droidwall is great too, if you're worried about apps using too much data or breaching your privacy by sending data that you don't want. It lets you control what apps get internet access.
Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox Pro lets you backup and restore apps! And another great feature is freezing apps! So you can get rid of bloatware that's slowing down your phone or using up too much CPU (which will drain your battery).
And if you still don't think you get enough battery life (I think 4 to 5 hours is considered normal), you can always get Better Battery Stats and look for wakelocks. There's a thread on XDA forums somewhere where you can get the app for free if you can't afford the Play store version and you can look up how to use Better Battery Stats or ask someone to help you interpret it.
That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there's more to find out! I'm pretty new to rooting too (Only other Android experience was an HP TouchPad), so I'm also learning as I go.
Did the ad away and the main reason I rooted was for Google wallet and hopefully get better battery life.

Rooting drain more battery than leave it stock?

Is there an expert can comment on this? I felt like after rooting, my phones drain more battery than leave it Stock? Especially after removed bunch of ATT Bloats
Is android system relies on certain apps for functionality. and when it senses that some apps that it relies on are disabled/reemoved, it'll put in the "extra work" in continuing to 'connect' to these apps so, it drains more battery???
No. Rooting does not drain the battery more.
Rooting itself won't cause battery drain. What you do after the root can have an impact though.

No rooting device doesn't drain battery life but as WorldIRC stated its What you do after the root can have an impact.
To prevent bad results after root.
Install TWRP using goomanager and make BACKUP so you can recover stock image if things go bad

[Q] Lowering background processes allowed

I sometimes lower background process allowed to 4 to increase free Ram. I did some research and can't really determine if Ram used=Battery used or just Ram in use. On some Roms it seems to make a difference. On DG M7 Rom is was using average 6% or less overnight unplugged but lately on Synergy, Darth, Galaxymod or really any I can't get the same. Usually 10%. On some Roms it seems to help, on others nothing. Any insight on whether this is helpful or harmful is appreciated. BTW I think I may be a battery dork. When the 5hit hits the fan I want a great battery life ready! One more question. I hate the Email app. I only use Gmail. Can I freeze it?
1. Freeze email/gmail whatever you want to freeze.
2. Turn off data when you sleep, and turn it on when you wake up.. will increase your standy duration a lot.
3. Switch to EDGE if you don't care about data speeds.
4. Turn off animations.
RAM used by preloaded apps = 0 battery.
RAM used by active applications/background services = battery used
you shouldn't need to keep clearing the ram and worrying about how much is free. do you know how ram works in our phones? here is an article about it if you don't know.

That is an excellent article. Thank you for you responses. I did not understand it to that degree before. It seems 4 might be a little low. Thanks Diablo. I use Juicedefender and I live in the mother of all ATT dead zones so my data is usually off. FIY, when you work hard to get a long life battery and the stuff does hit the fan cause of a hurricane, don't forget to put it in airplane mode until data system is back up. Looks like i need to do more in depth tweaking experiments. Ever since my days with the unbelievably bad Backflip, I have been paranoid.
You could also read the "Android Memory Management" in my signature I wrote it in the days "long long ago" to help people understand how Android memory management works.

Thinking of buying G3. How widespread is the slowing down issue?

Hi guys,
My GF needs a new phone. G3 looks like an awesome phone on paper. But browsing forums I see people complaining of phone slowing down after a few minutes of usage to almost a crawl. Is it a real issue? Does flashing to CM/Vanilla android fix the issue?
When using the phone non stop how long will each battery last? Will 2 batteries last for the entire day browsing over LTE? i.e. if each battery drains in 4 hours, then answer is no if you commute.
I've never experienced the slowdown you described. The device has 3GB of RAM, so either those cases were by people who were maxing out the memory by never closing apps, or they were lying. As for battery, I am averaging about 30 hours per charge with 3 hours of screen on time. I don't take any precautions to save battery (Greenify, turning off wifi/data when not in use, power save for anything other than when my phone drops below 15%). This has been my absolute favorite Android phone to date and I've owned it since Day 1.

2GB ram version received some complaints early on...
Lollipop 5.0 has greatly increased performance and once you debloat it, its really a great phone. My 3GB D850 is lag-free and great battery life. very few phones left that come with manageable size at 5.5", sdcard, and removable battery.

Hey dude,
Still very happy with my G3, stock rom can get a tiny bit laggy when doing heavy stuff, debloating is just getting rid of the stuff on there you dont need/use - i used systemappremover.
Installing another launcher can work really well too, i tired 6-7 launchers and tested all for speed and found Nova launcher to be the best of the bunch.
Im also running ChupaChup rom 4.2, its based on stock but has been debloated and tweaked, amazing rom.
Good luck.
I found that even without root and custom rom just changing launchers made a huge difference to improve any lag. Overall not bad at all.

Can we under clock this phone

Trying to give this phone better battery life. Already rooted and froze alot of the bloat wear. Battery life is much improved. Just thought that this chip is more than what is needed to process, multi-task, etc. Thought that if I could underclock would increase battery life without any noticeable lag. Tried a couple of apps from Play but they did not work. Any suggestions? I'm not super tech savy but I've been hooked on rooting since HD2. Seems like rooting and custom ROMS are dying but that's another subject. Any suggetions would be greatly apreciated. Thanks
