Help Installing PC36IMG - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone , I am new to this. Ive had my Evo for 2 years and finally decided to Root it. I did it , was successful. I installed an AOKP JB rom and was bad , the screen would go off it wouldnt let me unlock to get to the home screen.
I did not make a backup (I know , after seeing at least 100 warning or recommendations to do so, im a [email protected]#$)
I Installed a file called ss_stock 4.67.651.zip. It gave me the stock rom. But its giving me some error. It make sme choose "Force close" and it doesnt let me do anything.
I want to install the PC36IMg file , Ive read some threads and post and if Im not mistaken its the correct file to bring you Evo back to stock form.
I have to different PC36IMg files on my zip , I tried flashing both from sd card through the recovery option and it says scripit error.
Please help me with this I love my phone and don't want to lose it.

PC36IMG files should be flashed thru the boot loader not recovery. Put it on ur SD card(not in any folders) and then boot into ur boot loader, it should read it and ask u if u want to update. Press volume up to accept and let it do its thing

ok , is this using the command prompt. I tried doing that but got nowhere.
can you give me a quick explanation of the first steps. I remember using it to root it , i remember typing in rootevo4ggingerbread and then doing some thing like that with recovery.img. But with the pc36img i dont know where to bein with the command prompt , I appreciate the help.

U don't need the command prompt. Just put the file on the root of ur SD card ( like I said not in any folders) boot into ur boot loader by pulling ur battery, then replacing ur battery, hold down ur volume down button then press ur power button. Ur bootloader should read the image zip and ask u to update

I would appreciate it so much if you can give me a step by step.
I am lost. Ive taken the battery out a lot of times. When it boots it says no image file or something like that. If you know of a video online it would be awesome too. Sorry for the trouble
It never asks me to update anything

Where do u have the pc36img file located? But I have to ask, y not just download a different rom and flash it?

Move it out of that folder and paste it on the root of the SD card. As Sasquatch said that's where ur going wrong. It does not need to be in any folder to run thru the bootloader

Im sorry but I am confused , the SD card is what exactly. I thought I saved it in the sd card but apparently I dont know what the sd card is.
When I turn my phone on I put mount as disk drive and save it there (not inside any other folder) just in the drive. Is that the correct way?

Once u connect your phone put it in disk drive a window should pop up choose the one that says view folders or something like that choose that one thats were the pc36img should go remember if on windows dont add .zip it will add that automaticly

This is frustrating , can it be a bad PC36IMG file? How big is it normally , the one I have is 3,540 kb and it only has two files in it.

Splash screen issues?

Cant get the splash screen to take. When in cmd in my sdk\tools, and I fastboot flash splas1.... it keeps telling me failed. Signature verify fail, whats going wrong, PLEASE HELP.
How did you root the device?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I used unrevoked but this is the first problem I've had with anything.
With the unrEVOked method it is best and easiest to download a pc36img.zip from the unrEVOked website. Then replace the splash1 file with the one you want to use. Place on root of sdcard then boot into recovery. It will scan sdcard then ask if you want to update the Pc36img.zip just volume up for yes then new splash screen will be flashed.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think I may have found the problem. Some how I turned s-on. Installing unrevoked forever. That should work.
when I boot into bootloader and it scans the p36img it doesn't give me an option to update. It goes straight to options list.
Be sure that you have the file named correctly. It should be pc36img.zip a lot of times there is an extra .zip at the end. And also be sure you have the correct contents inside the folder. It should be named exactly as the one you are replacing. Leave all the other files inside the .zip as is. Just replace the splash1 file.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
still does not work. phone does not give me any opption to update .zip after scanning card. Never has. Even reinstalled the original pc36img.zip on zip. It scans but goes straight to the options list for fastboot, recovery, etc. My wifes evo does it to. They both have done it even when completely stock, before root.
And you are putting the .zip on the root of the sdcard right.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes and I've done everything. Renamed the .rgb565 img and put it in the .zip folder. The problem I think is the phone. I don't know why but none of the four evos I've worked on read the pc36img.zip. Why would this be. I've read some rooting tutorials that talked about rooting through the pc36img.zip file, but my phones have read and let me update. I don't get it!
Very weird. Don't know what else to suggest. I am at a loss.

I have no idea how to fix this. someone please help me
That's you having an incompatible CWM on an slcd screen. Update to a different one by flashing it in hboot.

Directly on the root of the card. Aka, not in any folders. Otherwise hboot won't see it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
how do i get hboot to use the zip file instead of the other cwm recovery because its not working. Also do i have to name the zip anything?
You put it on the root of your SD card and boot into hboot by booting while holding power and volume down. It will automatically find the file and ask you if you want to flash it. It has to be name PB31IMG.zip
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
My phone did not automatically reconize the file in hboot when I named it PB31IMG.zip. So I went to the Verizon store. They're sending me a new phone but i would still like to get this one to work because they let me keep it. I'm probably going to send it to a guy that can rewrite the software. However since Im running low on money I probably wont send it in for a while so if anyone notices anything i didnt or thinks they know the problem, please let me know. Thank you
cvbcbcmv said:
it's probably PB31IMG.zip.zip. Try getting rid of the .zip and see if your extracting program will still recognize it, if yes, it has a hidden .zip, and keep it like that, if no, then you need the zip there. Can you do that for me? That's probably your problem.
Click to collapse
Yes, this happened to me early on. You ususally don't see the extension (the .zip) part of the file name, so when you add it you are creating a file named PB31IMG.zip.zip. So like the good person above says, just make it say PB31IMG and it will likely be fixed. If not, THEN make it say PB31IMG.zip
Good luck!
Yes got it. Wow that was frustrating. Thank you so much everyone who helped me

Quick amon-ra recovery questions...

I want to change from CM 3.0.0.5 to AMON-RA recovery due to the feedback I've gotten and read but I am not quite sure about what files to use and how exactly to flash them. I visited the mirror site on the RA thread and downloaded "recovery-ra-supersonic-v2.3.img" and "recovery-ra-supersonic-v2.3-pc36000.zip." My questions are do I simply place the "zip" file on the root of the card and boot into bootloader (vol dn+power) and answer yes when it asks to update, and what is the purpose of the ".img" file and what do I do with it (if I even need it)? I know these are noob questions but I am still learning and want to be sure I am doing things the right way. Thanks for the help.

ok never mind i acctually read what you posted and noticed that you already have what you need. so get rid of the .zip you dont need it. the .img and the .zip are 2 different methods and the img method in my opinion is lightyears easier than the zip way.
so here we go
1. put the .img on the root of your sd. (make sure it is named "PC36IMG.zip" exactly like that or else it wont work.
2. power down phone and then boot in to the hboot (vol down+power)
3. it will scan for the .img
4. when it asks to update hit yes.
5. let it do its thing and you will have amon.

Right on, just having a problem getting into hboot. When I power off the phone and try to power on with vol dn+power the phone goes right to the boot animation and to the system. Running synergy RC2. Did a double wipe of system/data, cache and dalvik. Currently using cm 3.0.0.5 recovery (as stated in op). Once again, Tia for the help and advice.
Pull the battery. Seems these new roms don't compleatly shut down.
Ans you don't need to wipe anything. Recovery is on a different part.

Phone NOT BOOTING UP NEED HELP ASAP

So my friend brings me his gsm nexus and is not loading up stays stuck and loading Google screen but does nothing from there..... I asked him what he had done and he said he went into cwm since he was having problems with his phone and decide to format everything on it sdcard/system/ etc etc etc..... I never done something so stupid before lol So I really don't know how to help him...... any way to be able to flash a stock rom maybe via odin ? or stock anything to get the phone to boot up again ? any help is greatly appreciated....... I could boot it up in recovery mode but since sd card is empty I can't restore any roms or any backups since he seem to have deleted them all
well your friend formatted the /system directory so there is no rom on there. of course it wont boot up.
follow this to go back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
DO NOT USE ODIN.
also, tell your friend to leave the phone stock until he knows what he is doing.
